We were not sure who worked on central vacuums in town, and found The Preferred Vacuums on Angie's list.  We went to the store to get information, and Jim was very helpful in explaining what we needed and what was optional.  They only carry a limited number of brands, but the Beam (Electrolux) appears to be a good brand, and is what we chose.  Jim explained the advantages of the Riccar power head over the Beam power head.  The Riccar power head was $100 more, but in in choosing the Riccar, Jim gave us a hose cover and additional accessories for free.  There were no additional costs for the installation.  The in-store experience was very good.  We scheduled an installation date for April 10, 2015.
On the day of installation, the installer, Mark, arrived promptly at the scheduled time.  He was very courteous and was skilled at his job.  He removed the old central vacuum unit and was happy to dispose of it for us along with the old power head we had.  The installation went well and he consulted us on where specifically the new unit should be placed.  As he was installing the unit, he noticed we were in the process of collapsing quite a few cardboard boxes for recycling - more  than would fit in our bin.  He offered to take them with him to recycle them in the large bin at their store.  Inside, Mark removed and replaced 3 vacuum ports and tested each to make sure they work.  He cleaned up carefully after replacing each.  The total installation took less than an hour, and we were very satisfied.
We are happy with the new vacuum.  It is much quieter and has all the suction of our old unit, maybe more.  The total cost was more than what we expected, but we had not initially considered new accessories and a new power head.  Our old power head did not work well, so we had to use an old Hoover upright vacuum on our carpets.  With the new power head, we can get rid of the old Hoover without having to replace it.

I had read previous Angie's List reviews that sounded too good to be true. Well,  they weren't.
I walked in the store and was served in 11 seconds. They took the first vacuum into the back while I got the second vacuum. In about two-three minutes, they came back and showed me the problem. They showed me what was wrong and put some electrical tape on a wire whose insulation had come off. Then they got me the bags I wanted.
The other vacuum turned out to need a weld or solder, which cost $70. He asked if I wanted to do it, and I said yes. In about 5 minutes, it was done. He plugged it in and it worked.
No charge on the first vacuum. Replacement bags were $9, and after paying, I walked out about 10 minutes after entering for the first time with two fixed vacuum cleaners.

I found this Vacuum Shop on Angie's List booklet that arrived at my mail this week.  What could be better than an Angie's referral with a discount for giving them my 25 year old vacuum cleaner as a "Trade-In".  One of the wheels was missing as well.  I was immediately met by the owner, James, and without revealing my discount Angie's coupon, immediately told him my needs and my price variables.  James does not beat around the bush or try to up-sell you like other family owned shops; he was honest and absolutely involved in "exceptional customer service."  I worked hard vacuuming up various amounts of crud and debris testing the different models.
I'm a prior retail sales guy too, and watched as customers streamed in the door with their vacuums needing repairs and service. They were immediately assisted by other Staff, not in minutes, but in seconds.  Several were able to wait while repairs were done by the Staff.  Exceptional and hard to find these days!
In conclusion, I purchased a great Miele vacuum and used my Angie's coupon as well.  It has several warranties attached, and James assured me that in the rare instance that this Miele would ever need repairs, his shop stands behind it, and would be here for me. Even though I'm the one who does all the vacuuming, my wife used it tonight, and said that it is amazing and absolutely 'user friendly' as well.  Just maybe that means more spare time for me for fishing and motorcycle riding as well!  If for some crazy reason we do not get along with this vacuum, it can be returned within 30 days!  But I don't see that happening.
In conclusion, the reason I purchased this vacuum has everything to do with the exceptional customer service I received at The Preferred Vacuums, maybe even more than the great quality of the device I bought.

They did an excellent job - they explained it clearly over the phone, completed the work as scheduled and at a very reasonable price. I will definitely use them again if the need arises!

I feel silly but they fixed my vacuums - my fault - a sock was stuck in the rollers on one and I didn't press a reset button on the other. They fixed both for free and didn't make me feel like an idiot.

They did a great job, and the vacuum works great, just like it did when I was using it as a teenager.  The cost was right around what I thought it would be.  It needed quite a bit of work.

Wonderful!  I chose this shop based on it's Angie's List review and was not disappointed!  I was cheerfully greeted by a technician who went to work on my vacuum immediately, fixing the problem on the spot.  I was so thrilled NOT to have to leave my machine there!

I had a 20 year old Tri-Star that needed repair. They concluded it was worth it to repair and did not suggest I buy a new one until I began to ask questions about how to make a wise suggestion buy or repair but even then they remained neutral.
Was willing to take the time to answer all my questions and actually educate me about the industry. Where are they manufactured and though a brand may have a long history and reputation who owns them know and the resultant implications of the buy out.
Clearly protected me from getting more than I needed but also pointed how I might be disappointed if I chose a lesser quality or cheaper machine. They did not however speak of cheaper machines in a disrespectful way.

Had to replace the hose and attachment for my central vacuum system.  My old one was 25 years old and a Hoover.  Parts are no longer available so I needed to get a full replacement of these parts.  The fellow that helped me certainly knew his vacuums and gave me a full explanation of what was available.  I was impressed with his knowledge and felt confident in the guidance I was given.  There was no pressure to purchase anything so I went home, thought about it, did a little research on the brand I was thinking of getting then went back and bought what I needed.  These people live, eat and breath vacuums, you couldn't find this kind of service or knowledge in a department or big box store.

I found them on Angie's List, verified they were a Dyson repair shop and took my several year old Dyson to them.  They showed me what was wrong with it, what it would take to repair, and that the repair costs were more than a new (refurbished) Dyson.  I thought this was interesting, because they absolutely just could have done the work I wanted and sent me on my way.  They suggested I probably should consider the new purchase.  We then got to talking about why I love my Dyson so much and the young man I was dealing with, Mike, ended up giving me an entire class in how vacuums work:  suction vs inflow, uprights vs canisters. We talked about motors, weight, convenience - almost every aspect of vacuuming you could think of.  We talked about their various models, pros and cons of each, and he sent me away to do my research on line.  While I was in the store, I was leaning towards this Rikkar brand - made in America.  My online research verified it was probably the perfect choice for my vacuuming needs and I went back today and purchased it.  In general, I think of vacuum salesmen as being almost as sleazy as used car salesmen.  This was not the case with this group.  They respect their clients, work to provide you exactly the best vacuum cleaner for your needs/desires, and never put any pressure on you.  Trust me, I will be purchasing my next vacuum (should I ever need another one) from them!  PERFECT EXPERIENCE!
