The following is the most recent example of many difficulties in dealing with this property manager. Two days after I called in the items, there was no response so I called back. The clerk said that there was no record of a maintenance order in the computer. I asked her to have the maintenance employee (Karen) call me back, or the Property Manager (Monica). After 2 more days, I called Monica who answered the phone. I asked her if she got a message to return my call. She said, sarcastically, ".. well, I heard that 'YOU believe' you have a plumbing problem". (The plumber had come to repair the bathroom sink the month before, but he just put Draino down the sink, which didn't fix the problem). She said, (in a vicious tone of voice) that they do NOT have time nor do they make it a practice to return tenant phone calls - only those they deem absolutely necessary. In anger, she told me that if she sent a plumber and there was nothing wrong with the hot water heater, she would send me the bill for the service call. Furthermore, she said, the lock was the homeowner's problem, not hers. (The homeowner had the front door painted and the lock must have been put back on the door incorrectly). In the past, the homeowner has spoken to Sunflower about the poor treatment of her tenants, and asked that maintence requests be taken care of promptly. In spite of this, I was amazed at how disrespectful and verbally abusive the tone of Sunflower's Property Manager was. I am not only a tenant, but I am also a homeowner with 2 rentals. I would never allow this firm to represent me. When a landlord has good tenants who take care of the property and pay rent on time, they try to keep them. The service of this firm is so poor that it can create unnecessary and costly turnover of tenants. It is also a nightmare for tenants as well, who have no recourse but to withhold rent, which is not lawful, or to seek legal help. I talked with another property manager who manages the property that I own, and he was aware of the poor reputation of Sunflower Property Management.
