Since the problems are so numerous I am putting them in a list form:
1. Floods and leaks
The first leak/flood in the basement closest to the street due to improper connection. Fixed within 24h but did not clean. We had to clean up the water.
The second leak/flood in the basement close to the back stairs. Never figured out the reason. Again, minor but it did get out camping gear wet.
The third flood was under the house and this time quite a bit of water accumulated. The reason was that there was debris from the old pipes not cleared out that created blockage. It took a while to soak up all the water. A lot of our tools and winter sports gear got wet.
The forth leak/flood was pretty major. Around dinner time on Mother's day water started to rain from the boards on the celling coming from the 2nd floor toilet. It lasted hours. There was damage to a cabinet and it's contents, floors, walls and it leaked all the way to the basement. There was a lot of water everywhere and it got us worried about mold. It is also hard to watch so much water go to waste. The explanation was that it had something to do with a pressure valve on a toilet on the second floor that they forgot to bring/install. When we called Ramiro, the project manager, to report the leak he refused to come saying "What do you want me to do? Leave my family and deal with you?" We were shocked by such a rude response. Carlos eventually came and stopped the leak.
2. Damage to the house and appliances:
The workers broke one of the antique windows in the hallway. It took a month to replace it, increasing the energy cost. Understandably an exact match couldn't be found, so now our hallway windows are mismatched.
While cutting the celling a wire was accidently cut, which is no big deal it took about 10 minutes to fix it when they finally got to it, but we were left without a light in the kitchen for almost two weeks.
After the work on the kitchen pipes was done and we were told all is good to go we ran the dishwasher. After some time I smelled something burning. I checked the dishwasher and saw that there was no water coming in and it was running on dry. Thankfully I was home and caught it before a it caught fire. Again, the explanation was that there was some debris left unchecked in the pipes that prevented water flow.
Initially when they started drilling nothing got covered for protection. Only after I pointed out the thick layer of dust they threw some plastic on the beds, but by then all the bedding had to be washed and we spent hours wiping the dust, vacuuming and mopping.
When work was done on the toilets on the 3rd floor, the floors, again, were not covered and the pieces of drywall were nor cleaned up after the workers left, which resulted in scratches on the floor from opening the door.
For some reason the water heater on the second floor was disconnected, the copper pipes leading to were cut and taken without our knowledge or permission, leaving us without hot water.
Our pleadings for taking care and respecting our home were ether completely ignored, or rudely answered with: "Don't worry, we'll clean it/fix it latter". There are scratches on the floors, dings on the doors and window sills and trim, scrapes, pint, palm and finger prints everywhere on the walls and celling. On occasion they didn't even bother cleaning up their food leftovers(we try to keep mice away). When they finally put up some plastic to cover the walls it was so sloppy with the wrong tape(white) used, it created more damage. By trying to "fix it" by smearing some paint over it they made it look even worse.
Then there was the issue with the sidewalk in front of the house. They made two large holes, loosely covered them with sand and left like this for weeks. The city inspector came and told us that that's a code violation and they have to be covered with something hard, like a board.
Now Repipe 1 is telling us that the work is complete and demand the final payment. The Senior City plumbing inspector was here yesterday and assured us that there was no final inspection and the job is not completed.
We were very patient and understanding as Ramiro and Carlos gave us explanations for all the problems that came up. We listened to all the excuses and promises as they didn't show up on time, or didn't show up at all, or come unannounced and told us they are about to shut the water off for the day.
This project was to be completed before the end of May 2015, almost a year ago, and the Inspector is telling us that the permit is about to expire. When I call the Repipe 1 I either get a "We'll look into it and call you back" and no call back, or and get yelled at by some guy named Sam.
We are left with unfinished and questionable work, extensive damage to the house and pretty shaken by the whole experience.
Don't do the same mistake we made, hire someone else!
The plumbers (Emilio and Alexandra) and the project manager (SAM) were great. These guys work with you and make sure you are totally satisfied.
I filed and had investigated my experience through the San Diego Sheriff's Economic Crime Unit. Through public records, any person may obtain a copy of the investigation through the records department. Case # 13138676. Please feel free to contact me regarding my experience at [email protected].
Only thing is that you better be prepared to see a lot of holes in your walls after the first day. But after they are finished a different crew comes right in and does the patchwork. All drywall and stucco is repaired and ready for painting. They even call the city and get the inspector to come after the holes and new pipe are in place.
All in all I think this company is very professional and very competitive in pricing. I would definitely recommend them to anyone that is looking to repipe their house.
They do fantastic work, everything is re-plumbed and working better than ever, they even fitted two new shower valves that they recommended I add. They replaced the pipes back to where they enter the house, and fitted a new pressure valve and outside hose bibs. They are truly expert in what they do, and I would recommend them to anyone. I chose to use PEX piping, and it is working great and Repipe1 guarantees their work.
They quoted $3699 and a week to do the work. There were some mishaps, they were short a plumber on the Monday, and put a foot through the ceiling, but their drywall guy was amazing, it's all back together. You will get 20+ big holes in your walls, but they put everything back together, just leaving you to paint, fine work!
Our only issue, and it would have added $1100 to the $3699 quoted was that they failed to spot that one of our irrigation lines went through the slab, despite me showing them how many lines went into the slab. Their estimator Greg Whitaker was very nice, but not thorough, have him put everything in writing if you get him, he has a selective memory. Fortunately the owner, Jim Michaelson got in touch with me, was very understanding and reduced the extra work to $600. Outstanding customer service.
Go with Repipe1, you won't regret it.
The whole house pex repipe went smoothly and was done in a day. We had our water back that evening. The plumbers were good. Three people were on the job and coordinated the work very well. At my request they covered the wholes with plastic and cleaned up the place well.
The inspector from the city (company took care of the permit and scheduling) was actually very happy with the job and complemented the professionalism of the work. He wanted to come back again to see the stucco patch work.
The patch up of dry wall and stucco went well. The person was professional and had to work over two days. This was a minor inconvenience, but no big deal.
The city inspector signed off on the whole job the very next day and again expressed satisfaction with the overall job.
I would recommend this company, especially for their 'lifetime guarantee' on parts and labor.
Camille Bonita, Ca
Greg, the salesman; Emilio and Elizandro, the plumbers; Alain and Jesus, the drywall repair/painters; were all punctual, professional and personable. It was easy to contact them if we had a question or a concern. The permit and inspections were obtained and performed as promised. We were pleased with the work they did and would definitely hire them again.
Update: Repipe1 called after reading my review and offered to pay part of the cost of the electrician. They explained the original estimator did not know ahead of time that there was no cold water bond. However, the plumbers should have known that and could have mentioned it when they were working on the piping so that I could make arrangements for the cold water bond to be put in, instead of leaving it for the inspector to tell me.
A three man team led by a plumber by the name of ED showed up at 0800 on a Tuesday morning and he and his team completed the repipe the same day. Two days later the Santee City Inspector evaluated the job with an "excellent" for performance and code.
A drywaller, Tony, came on Friday at 0900 and worked until 0730 pm, then returned Saturday at 0930 and finished the job at 0730pm. Tony was slow and meticulous but did an outstanding job.
We are very happy with the outcome of the project and would use Repipe 1 again and do recommend them to others.
There was no communication among the plumbers and the texture people.
The texture people, came the 1st day and didn't know what to expect.
There was holes everywhere, and they were shocked to see them.
"Dear Member, All of us here at REPIPE 1 are very surprised to hear about your dissatisfaction. I feel it necessary, however, to address the items that you have decided to post on Angies List, as we place a very high value on the referrals that we receive from their organization. First of all, I came out to your home personally, as I do with hundreds of customers every month. I tell most everyone the same thing~~ "Your home will probably be repiped in one day, and if it takes a few hours on the 2nd day that you would never be left without water overnight. Inspection will be on the 1st business day after your repipe is done, and patching will begin immediately afterwards." NEVER, EVER have I promised ANYONE that this process, in total, can be completed in one day. If you see our other reviews, you can see that nobody else was under this misconception. I am sorry if you misunderstood, however, I remember speaking to you a few times during your job and you never mentioned this to me, nor voiced any concerns. Secondly, we have a large production office with different people who have different duties. You may remember that you were contacted by some of them when you were notified about when the inspector was coming, or when the patchers were coming, and how you wished to remit payment. These are their jobs and we pay them to orchestrate the process. There is no need for communication between our plumbers and our patchers. I realize that the Captain of your patching crew arrived by himself. It was unfortunate that his other 3 crew members got food poisoning from eating off the same truck the day before. These things happen. However, instead of delaying your patching, we "stood tough" and started the patching of your walls as promised. As far as we know, your piping is working perfectly, your walls have been repaired perfectly, and we thought we had a happy customer. It has been 2 months since your repipe and now we find this review on our page where you are obviously trying to disturb a perfect performance record with Angies List. We have tried to call you today and we have received no response from you. We will keep trying, however, we take this very seriously and will not idly stand by while our good name gets trampled upon. It is always our goal to have our customers satisfied and amazed by our work. I still have hopes that we can come to some kind of an understanding with you, if you choose to return our calls. But again, we are completely shocked by this review that you have posted, and we must contest its authenticity. Sincerely, Jim Michaelson General Manager"
