We had about 20 windows replaced with American Home Renewal. Their sales rep had some very good advice about whether we needed to replace our siding or not, and was very knowledgable about what kinds and types of windows would work for our very tall house. They helped me learn which questions to ask from other contractor, which I really appreciated. So we went with them, and in general the installations went well and probably match industry standards. The employees were nice & generally knowledgable & did the work well. I was a little underwhelmed by the green wood used to help frame out exterior bits, and I was surprised to find some wood unprimed (likely because painters were coming later) - but I was able to correct some of this. Unprimed green wood (especially the ends) is very bad, especially for San Francisco fog. There were a few major burns we experienced here: 1) I asked for the 'hero' top floor window to not be a french door, but the sales rep assured me it was the only option. When it arrived the center bar was much thicker than I expected and the windows were framed surprisingly smaller than the original ones. This was a drastic change, but I was told it was the only thing possible. However after talking with another employee, it was clear that they could, in fact, order much larger windows and a non-french-door configuration. This cost us an extra 15k to re-order and replace. This was awful. 2) When replacing extra windows as awning windows, I texted to ask if they would open to about 90 degrees (horizontal), and the sales rep said yes they would. However, after they arrived (or after talking to another employee) I learned that they open to less than 45 degrees. When I messaged about this issue, I was told that this is what I asked for, and signed for in the contract. The contract didn't mention anything about the maximum open angle, I was relying on the expertise of the sales rep, which burned me. 3) The sales rep repeatedly recommended I buy them with the inside primed and not fully painted, which I listened to. I immediately regretted this after receiving the windows. Now I either have to pay a LOT of money to get the professionally painted, or paint them all myself. The final batch of windows were factory painted interior and I'm glad I insisted on this. My guess is that primed is better for this company as if they get damaged, it's not a big deal for the customer, whereas if they arrive factory painted on the inside, they may be damaged. So perhaps if this tradeoff was presented to me I could have voiced the option better for us. I recommend being very explicit with your needs and requirements with the sales rep and double check all measurements you are signing off on to prevent being underwhelmed with the result.

I am the neighbor of someone who contracted with this company. The workers have zero respect for neighbors. I granted them access to my yard only to have to ask them at least 5 times to stop yelling in order to communicate with one another. They basically laughed at me and continued to make an unbearable amount of noise. Very unprofessional. If you hire this company, please ensure they don't drive your neighbors insane in the process. Edit: After sending an email to the company, they responded immediately and advised they would discuss with the crew. I hope that means an end to the constant yelling.

In this unsolicited review, I’m happy to give American Home Renewal (AHR) a 5-Star rating for satisfactorily completing the residing project of my house. I’m very happy with AHR’s professionalism, quality of work, and customer service. The old siding of my house was made of the so called “engineering wood”. Over the past 24 years, I’ve hired contractors to repair/repaint the siding several times. But mainly due to the poor quality of the siding material, these repair/repaint never lasted long. Especially after the severe past winter storms, the siding was in a really bad shape. I finally fed up with keeping throwing money at fixing the old siding. After some research, I decided to replace the old siding with Hardie Plank Lap Siding, which is made of fiber cement and, therefore, more durable and water resistant. I interviewed four contractors and got bids for all of them. To be fair, all the four contractors have good online reviews (Google. Yelp, Angi, etc.). In the end, I decided to use AHR. It’s not only AHR’s price was competitive, but also the sincerity of Chris, the estimator, really impressed me. Although a very busy person, Chris still managed come to see me twice at my request. He gave to me kind of Siding 101, explaining to me in detail about the material, the work process, the work crew, etc. He also addressed several special issues I raised. After I signed the contract, Nataly from the AHR office took over as the project manager. She arranged Misha coming over to take the final measurement, kept me informed about the permit process, and told me what to prepare. Nataly responded my questions quickly either by phone or email. Anyway, she runs a tight ship. Finally, the work crew came! Because the old siding removal was very labor intensive, there were as many as five workers during the first few days, with Igor as the foreman. They were all very friendly and professional. They tried to minimize any inconvenience to us and to my neighbors. After removing the old siding, they found quite some dry rots on the plywood. Since Chris and I had discussed the issue beforehand, they quickly proceeded to removing the damaged plywood with the new ones. Every day they clean up the site before going home. Igor and Peter worked on the site throughout the entire project, other workers came and went depending on the work. It’s very interesting and educational to watch how Igor and Peter doing their work. Although I’m not a handy person, I could see they did their work proficiently. For my own learning, I sometimes ask Igor questions. He was always patient to explain to me. This made me felt confident about the quality of their work. Near the end of the work, I saw a small dry rot at the bottom of the front door jamb. Although it’s not part of the siding job, Misha still came and found a solution and provided the material for Igor and Peter fixed the problem. I was very happy about that. The site work lasted for 3 weeks. As days went by, both side know each other better and felt more relaxed. We also felt more appreciated about their physical labor under the intense sun. On the last day, four people came to finish the job. To celebrate and also show our appreciation, my wife bought a cake, and provided a simple backyard picnic lunch for the crew. Everyone was happy about the completion of the project. So far, this is our most expensive home improvement project. But my wife and I feel it’s worth the money. I’ve got some nice comments about the new siding from my neighbors, passersby, and, most importantly, the city inspector. Chris also came this afternoon for a walk through. I feel confident that we will be no longer worried about the heavy rains for the foreseeable future. I also feel confident that should something unexpected happens, I can count on AHR to fix the problem. As such, I definitely recommend AHR to my friends, and have written this review.

Sorry for lack of being able to service your needs with the initial appointment and good luck with your project. Thanks - Chris Spilly

Description of Work: I contacted American Home Renewal to get a quote for replacing all 9 windows and 1 patio door in our house. Appointment was made and the sales person showed up on time. He was very knowledgeable and provided lots of tips and ideas on what to do and what to watch out for. He gave me a quote which I decided eventually not to use mainly because the price is a bit higher than the other competitive bid, and their availability (around two months out). But overall, I was impressed with their professionalism.

Estimate went fine.
Description of Work: Received an estimate for replacement of 16 windows and a door with new fiberglass products. They were great...professional, knowledgeable, prompt, courteous...unfortunately they did not have the lowest bid for the same product and services and liability insurance etc, so I went with another company that was also professional, etc. I have nothing negative to say about them and their prices were not dramatically different, but they were not the lowest.
