Marsh Fence & Deck

We've had great success using Marsh Fence in the past for a fence project, and most recently, a decking project. They've been very cost competitive, and for both our fence project, they were able to complete it much faster than they estimated, and they were already much faster than our other bids. Their size allows them to bring lots of people. For the decking project, it was fairly straightforward rectangular deck extension, with no electrical work. Given the small scale, they committed two employees, who spent a couple days building it. They did a nice job, and built a clean door to access some plumbing valves below. The end product matched nicely with the deck they extended.

We had a mixed experience with them. We used them because of the good report they got on Angie’s List, and I have to say we were disappointed. We shared the cost with our next door neighbor, and I think the total cost came to a little over $2,000. The price was okay, and they were here on time.

We called for an estimate and they showed on time. They promptly faxed me a quote. Their quote included a 10 year warranty which was not offered by others that had quotes in the same price range. Work was scheduled a couple of weeks later and again workers arrived on time. The demo and post holes were done quickly by 6 workers. They installed 4x6 posts instead of 4x4 posts as quoted by others to help ensure the retaining wall is secure. Each day they took away all the waste and cleaned up . The carpenters were open to my suggestions and they even installed new deck boards to match the fence profile. The whole job took about 2.5 days. I am very please with the quality of the job and appreciated John Marsh's flexibility.

These guys were terrific from the first contact. They answered every call promptly, they showed up, they were clear professional and helpful, their quote was very reasonable. They were available to perform the service reasonably soon, they showed up on time, performed the service efficiently and cleaned up afterwards leaving a spotless beautiful yard and brand new fence. They even fielded questions from neighbors with whom the fence is common. Terrific from start to finish!!!

Only one installer arrived and demolished and replaced approximately 50 L.F. of Redwood Fencing including lattice at top and bottom kickboards. All work was completed and cleaned up in one 8 hour day. Fence looks great and feels quite solid.

Excellent work, I'd use them again. Only downside was that it took almost 2 wks to get them to come but it wasn't urgent so it's not a big deal. Getting someone on the phone usually required a little phone tag but they always responded. Overall I'm completely satisfied.

It's been the best experience we've ever had with contractors. We shopped around for price and he gave us the most honest and fair deal. The storm had knocked down our fence and apparently many others in the area. He was booked but he gave us a date and he was here on the day and on time. We went ahead and cleared out the broken fence and got rid of it which he took into consideration on the price. His employees were the most respectful and professional people I've had the pleasure of dealing with. They kept everything organized and left the place cleaner then when they arrived. This was a dream come true experience. I would reuse them and recommend them to everyone 100%!

Owner John Marsh presented us with a quote for redwood fencing replacement (our old fences had been severely damaged by rain and wind storms in December), and the price seemed very reasonable. The crew arrived on the scheduled date, completely demolished the old fencing, and even helped me clear out some overgrown ivy plants that had taken over part of the fencing on one side of the property. The crew worked diligently, paying particular attention to cleaning up as they went, and the entire job was done in about 5 hours. 65 feet of 4' high fence along the back, as well as 65 feet of 6' fence on each side - plus 3 gates. All done with impeccable detail, all posts solidly secured in concrete, and left the property even cleaner than they found it. We could not be happier.

Called three A-rated fence contractors from Angie's list. All three said it would be a one day job and each provided an estimate that was reasonably priced. I choose Marsh Fence and Deck, not only because they came in with the lowest bid and a 10-year warranty, but because I had a good feeling about Cesar, their estimator. Scheduled a date shortly afterwards. Cesar and his crew showed up promptly at 8:30 am on the scheduled day. They quickly dispatched of the old fence and hauled it away and completed installing the new fence by 3:30 pm with little disruption to my neighbor's and my yard.

Called John up to get an estimate on some fencing. He was prompt in returning my call and coming back to give an estimate. His estimate was on the low side compared with other bids, so I was a little concerned. But his reviews on Yelp were all good so I thought I'd give him a chance. His crew came out exactly when he said they would. The crew did a great job and I was very happy with the work they did. My only very minor gripe is that they were supposed to finish everything in one day. They almost did everything, but there was a little work left. I didn't really care that they didn't finish, but none of the workers that I spoke with at the end of the day could tell me when they were coming back to finish the job. When nobody showed up the next day, I called to find out what was going and never got a call back. But a few hours later, one of the workers came to finish the job. They did a great job overall and I would definitely use them again.

I called a large fence company who told me they did not do wooden fences but they recommended Marsh Deck & Fence Co. I made one call to Marsh and set the appointment for an estimate between 7am-8am the very next day. John Marsh, the owner, arrived at 7:01 and asked me what I wanted to do. In the backyard I showed him an old broken pine fence. In five minutes, he measured the space, explained what he would do, and wrote and gave me a detailed estimate. He would remove and dispose of the old fence, fence posts, and dig out and remove the old concrete. He would replace the 4 inch pine fence with 6 inch redwood. He would use would be pressure treated posts. I requested no lumber from a Big Box store. Marsh said all products he uses are purchased at a large family run lumber company - that I happened to know too. All's well. The workers arrived at the scheduled time and went to work like silent fence warriors. Everything was done perfectly, in and out in four hours, no mess left behind, nothing for me to do after they left except admire their work and the new back fence. My wife and I liked the new redwood fence so much that I called Marsh back and asked him to give me an estimate on replacing the two side fences. He arrived at the scheduled time and just like before, we went out back but this time he inspected the new fence - it was perfect. I said the new fence is SO nice that I want the two side fences replaced. He looked over those fences, and wrote out a detailed estimate EXCEPT this time he told me to save my money because the fences I wanted replaced were new pine, and they looked good and would last a long time. I'm still going to replace the side fences. If you want your fence done right the first time by a no nonsense professional, call Marsh Deck and Fence.

Fast. They estimated the job and repaired the fence all within one week. We were on a deadline because of scheduled landscaping. They were on time if not early for every appointment. The work is great. They did in a day what my husband said would have taken him two weeks, and the work is perfect.

From the moment I contacted the company, to the completion of the job, nothing could have transpired any better. The office staff was extremely courteous and helpful. the estimater was very informative. The workers were very maticulous.

I was amazed at how fast they worked and I was very pleased with the look of the fences. When they left, however, I found that in addition to walking all over the existing plants, they built a portion of the fence ON TOP of the main line of the drip watering system, severing it. In addition, they threw chunks of cement into the dirt rather than hauling them away. Both of these problems required that I hire others to resolve the issue and my letter to them went unanswered.

The estimator was courteous and efficient, and the price was much lower than other estimates we had gotten. When the work was scheduled, they were able to do it in one day (despite a rainstorm), and they did an excellent job with the installation and cleanup. Although we hadn't discussed it, they astutely left some room around a large tree that had been pushing against the old fence. Overall, I am very pleased with Marsh and would strongly recommend them for fence installation or repair.
