The Sofa Company - Redondo Beach

I had a back injury and needed a new sofa to support my back. I did a lot of shopping and decided to go with the Sofa Company. On October 18th I entered a contract to build a specific sofa with The Sofa Company. It's a great concept - fulfilling a niche in the market, using a wide variety of styles and fabrics to build a sofa to your specificneeds. Let me say upfront - the people are great. Well informed, helpful and caring. But they lack the ability to execute the deal. First - when I ordered the sofa - I was informed it would be 2-4 weeks to complete - that is a selling point and so I signed the contract. A few days later they called to say it would be 3-5 weeks - not a big delay - "OK" I said. Then three weeks after that - expecting to get a call that my sofa was ready - I was told the fabric I chose was unavailable - on back order and no new supplies are expected. Really ? It took them 3 weeks to inform me the fabric wasn't available. I then tried to find another fabric that fit my decor and couldn't find it in the "class" of fabric I had paid for. After some real nudging, they said I could upgrade to another class of fabric - so I chose again (4 weeks into this ordeal now). And again - "3-5 weeks" I'm told - but since all the parts were already ordered (it's now 2nd week of November) - we were confident I would get it in early Dec. [NOTE: having a minor back procedure performed on Dec 5th, I really needed this sofa for my recovery]. Stopping by their office on Nov24th - they informed me a date of Dec 3rd was the target date for the completion. I once again informed them that really needed it delivered by the end of that week (Fri 5th Dec or Sat 6th) - especially since I was leaving for an overseas trip the following week (of which I informed them multiple times). Well, on Dec 2nd - not hearing from them - I called again - they told me the sofa would be completed on the 5th (Fri). I begged them to please deliver it that week, either Fri (5th) or Sat (6th). That's when I was informed they "don't do Saturday deliveries." REALLY? In Southern California a company like this can't find a sub-contractor to deliver a sofra on a Saturday - keep in mind I PAID for delivery - it wasn't free as you see from the chain furniture stores. Simply unsatisfactory planning on their part. Well - needless to say - the reason I'm posting this - they never contacted me on Friday the 5th and now I still don't have my sofa - 7 weeks into my original "3-5 week" construction window I'm without my $2300 sofa. And next week I leave the country and won't be back until January. Bottom line - great, intelligent people, knowledgeable about the furniture business. It's a shame because great people and a great concept doesn't always translate into great execution. They left me dissatisfied and I want all people to know this.

We had an excellent experience ordering a new sofa from The Sofa Company. Our salesman, Richard Martin guided us through the process without rushing us. We came back a couple of times, brought fabrics home to look at for the weekend. We got all the details we wanted, it was delivered on time and for the expected price. The sofa is now the centerpiece in our living room.

The price was reasonable. They built exactly what they said they would. It was nice quality. We would use them again. They work very well with their clients. They find out what exactly they want. They have a wide selection to choose from. We would recommend them.

Swung by to originally just cross-window-shop, being aware of their higher pricing and hesitant from their Yelp reviews. My experience ended up being nothing of the sort. Excellent inventory, updated styling, quality fabrics and construction, locally-sourced, and top-notch customer service among other aspects mesh with my preferences. Icing on the cake was scoring a once-in-a-blue-moon deal for a sectional that was 50% its retail price!

I can't speak to their work on new custom furniture, but beware if you take anything to them for reupholstering. I needed new cushions made for a daybed and their price for making them seemed really fair. I brought in the originals so they could be copied and supplied my own fabric. The job should have been really straightforward, but the instructions the store sent to the factory were really confusing so what was made was incorrect. I gave them new instructions on how they could salvage what they'd done, and the store manager (who is no longer there) ignored my instructions and made up his own. Now there's not enough fabric to fix the issues. I gave them a C overall instead of a D or F since the sewing work is very good. The issues were with communication between the store and the factory and the store and me (the customer).

The Sofa Company in Pasadena helped us select a sofa. They had a good selection of sofas in the showroom and could custom build a sofa to different sizes and with different materials and cushions. Chad was very helpful without any pressure. I ended up selecting one of the models that they had in stock rather than a custom-built one and I'm happy with the way it turned out. The delivery went smoothly, about a week after purchasing the sofa. Jesus and his partner carefully brought the sofa up the stairs when it turned out to be too large for the elevator. Overall, a very good experience.

We were looking for a replacement for the custom sofa that we had built many years ago. That company has since gone out of business. We checked with three furniture stores but found that the selection was limited in what sizes they could provide and we couldn't find a fabric that we liked. Each one of these stores was asking around $6,000 for what we wanted. We went to the Sofa Company in Redondo Beach to check out their sofas. We found a style we liked and a fabric but we wanted to go home and think about it. Their cost was about $3,000 including tax, delivery, protective coating and haul away of the old sofa. A couple of days later we decided to pull the trigger and buy it. Both times we went to the Sofa Company, we were waited on by different sets of salespeople. Everyone was very pleasant and knowledgeable. They weren't pushy and were always ready to answer any questions we had. We ordered the sofa and three weeks later took delivery. We are very pleased with the results and will definitely return when we need any more furniture.

In our quest to find the perfect sectional, we looked at a lot of sofas, talked to a lot of people, and learned about all sorts of nifty things like Dacron and chicken feathers. Through all of this, we kept coming back to the Pasadena Sofa Company. Both Chad and Jeannie spent a ton of time with us, always in a helpful, no pressure, and truly welcome way. Every time we have been into the store or spoken with them on the phone, we have been impressed. Jeannie even came to our house for a home consultation (a service they provide for $75, but is free if you purchase a sofa with them), with a bin of tape measures, fabrics, etc. The styles, fabrics, and options are kinda great. Our forthcoming sectional is exactly what we wanted, and we expect we’ll be updating this post with a gushy review of the couch itself once it is delivered. Our only advice for the company is that the website looks a little cheesy from the homepage. Maybe something cleaner/hipper/less busy? A ridiculously minor thing compared to the Sofa Company’s overall awesomeness. To top it all off: free parking (it’s not well marked: take DeLacey past Green, then make your first right, then right into the parking structure under the apartment building).
