I only got two estimates and both companies gave two different prices and two different opinions each thought they were right. I should have gotten a third opinion and also got references and checked with the better business bureau. Although I have checked with them before and not all companies that do bad business are reported so it doesn't always make a difference. I should have turned him in for leaving my untit in a hazardous condition and not be taken in by his good ol boy this will be fine attitude until you can get a new one. I didn't need a new one, I just needed this one fixed properly and not have him do a half a** job!!! It still baffles me to this day how someone is called in to fix a air conditioner and ends up breaking your heater and thinks he is not responsible. It seemed to me that he knew he messed up , also if you see that a repairman leaves spare parts laying around, TAKE PICTURES because their game is to deny, deny, deny!!! Also make sure he puts everything in writing ate , I don't normally do business with anyone who doesn't put their estimate in writing or be willing to give me a parts list or return my old parts. Why for the precise reason that you have no guarantee that they did what they said they did. This man ran a scam on me by making me think he was doing me some random act of kindness, he was going to rebuild a motor and the unit would be good as new when in fact he actually lost some of my original parts and now it doesn't work at all. It falls in the catagory of if it sounds to good to be true it is!! At the end of the day he was rude, unprofessional and unethecial.
Description of Work: He was the second person I called to get an estimate, I told him what the first guy said and he said that this guy didn't know what he was talking about, he went on to say that he had been in the business for over 40 years and of course that made me feel confident in him. I expressed concern to him that I did not want someone who told me one thing and did another , he stated that he didn't do business that way. I also told him that I had never had any problems with this unit. He said look I am fairly sure you need a new motor and I think I can rebuild it and it should be fine . He said he would be back the next day as it was over 105 degrees outside and I had health problems so that was important to me , he didn't come back for 4 days, he put the motor back in and it didn't start like it should, so he, said it was the thermostate, I said no its not the thermostate because I just got a new one last summer. Then he said look you will have to plug it in when you want to use it and unplug it after a few hours, I said , "what , that can't be good , he said, "it will be fine,the fan will stay on but the air will go off which was strange since he said the thermastate was broken. To stop the fan you have to unplug the unit. I asked him why he did it like that , he said a couple of things, first he said that it was more complicated then he thought, then he said he didn't have enough time and that he would come back before winter to finish it. When I went to pay him he didn't take any money which I thought was strange. Me thinking that he was being kind or giving me a break because it wasn't running the way it should , thanked him and told him that I would see him in the in the fall. Well he never showed up, big surprise, the first cold day came and the heater wouldn't even work. It was just freezing in the house, Ray wasn't returning my calls. turn on, it was freezing in the house this was a concern because I have an adult disabled son who is prone to pneumonia and uses 02 A week later he calls and acted like he didn't know what the heck I was talking about! He said I don't know, didn't you say it was broken too? Oh, no I said you aren't serious, how would I even know if the heater was not working in the middle of summer especially if I never had any problems last winter? He became very agitated with me, look , I said, "you tore everything apart and said you could fix it, then you left parts off and I found them later on the floor and I read on the heater door that if you don't have these parts on correctly that the starter won't egite properly. Immediately he got angry with me but he came over, he appeared to be doing something , asked me for a flashlight, asked me for a screwdriver , just then my phone rang and I went to answer it and when I came back he was gone, parts and dirt on the floor, the heater not fixed . My son is a commercial air condition installer who was in Afganistan and he told me that this guy made a complete mess of my unit the most important thing he said is that the motor had never been rebuilt or had any work done on it that he could tell. In fact my motor did not need to be rebuilt,that anytime someone tells you that you have to unplug and then plug in central air and heat just to get it to work then he is incompedant and he knew he ripped you off and thats why he didnt charge you because at the end of the day he was the one who not only messed up your unit but caused a potential fire hazzard and caused you much higher PG&E bills and he should have never taken anything apart unless he could fix it properly and get it up and running . I think it is time for Ray to retire. The sad thing is that he use to have a good reputation but now has resorted to sloppy work and when he gets caught he likes to blame the customer as if they made him do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For the record when I asked him for the old parts to the motor that he claimed to have rebuilt of course he didn't have them. To this day I don't have a heater that works, it seems he created more problems then I originally had. I mistakeningly thought that because he was a senior citizen himself that he would want to be the one who did a good job for people who businesses typically take advantage of. Not so!!
