Just over a year ago I had my Air Conditioning replaced by my home warranty company. A few months later, after it started leaking, I found out it was not installed to code. I had a different company come out & give me an estimate & attempted to hire them after the money from the home warranty company was reimbursed to me. They failed to make an appointment for the repairs for several months. I finally found La Canada Air from a recommendation on my Nextdoor app. Joe came out immediately during this first heatwave and performed an inspection of my unit. He gave me 2 lists...what needed to be done and what was optional. I mentioned to him that I have breathing issues at home. He gave me the different options for my unit for cleaner air that I am considering for the future. Joe was very knowledgeable and had info printouts for everything, even regarding permits. I wish I had called Joe first. Joe looked at my old invoice from the Home Warranty company & pointed out that I had paid for a HERS inspection that never happened. He was very clear while explaining how my HVAC system works and went over what needed to be done for my unit to be deemed "to code" by the city inspector & HERS inspections that were not previously done. His quote was very reasonable and on the day of the repairs, the installation techs, Noe & Anthony arrived on time with masks on. They were very neat and professional while working on this significant job to repair someone else's mess & they replaced my 30+ year old ducts. I also had them replace my 30+ year old mercury thermostat with a new digital one and I was pleased that they offered a model that my elderly mom can finally use. On the same day, following the repairs, the unit & thermostat began turning off. I called La Canada Air & they immediately sent their tech, David, out. Within minutes, he realized that a piece from my blower was overheating & needed to be replaced ...by fixing this, it also repaired my heater issue that I have been having since March. It turns out that I will not need a new heater as I had previously thought. For the first time in 5 years, I finally have a properly running HVAC. I am very happy with La Canada Air and will definitely be using them for my HVAC service needs.

he came out and looked at my furnace then said I needed a new generator for the unit. After he left, there was a gas leak. He came back out and put a lit match against the wall and said there was no leak. I called the gas company and they did find the leak. La Canada used a fitting on the pipe instead of the correct connector which was causing the leak. The gas company did the repair for free. A month later the generator stopped working and La Canada wanted to charge another $90 just to come out and look at it. They also said I would really need a new wall unit and not just another generator. I hired another company and had the wall heater and generator replaced for only 200. I asked for a refund but they would not. They charged me twice as much as the other company for half the work and it broke after six weeks. The second company also said the generator that was installed looked used and definitely not six weeks old.

Response from La Canada Air Conditioning & Heating
In response to your complaint: The initial repair was due to a failed generator. A new generator out of the package was used. That generator carries a 1 year manufactures warranty. Thermostat was badly damaged and needed replaced also, you refused. We only adjusted the broken thermostat to make the system work. (We never used any incorrect fittings as you claimed). After the initial repair, you claimed to have smelled a gas leak. Upon arrival you could not smell any gas. You could only smell gas sometimes. We quickly came back to inspect the wall heater and could not find or smell any leakage. We demonstrated that there was no leak around the furnace by exposing the furnace to open flame, nothing. A new unit was recommended because the unit was 30+ years old. Then, 6 weeks later you called because unit not working. We again returned and found a bad gas valve, the generator was working properly. We only have a 30 day warranty on labor so a service call was charged. You refused repair and refused to pay for service. You then decided to hire another co. instead of working things out with us. Now you're expressing your dissatisfaction because a minor repair of the generator did not correct all the problems. Sorry we do not agree about giving you back the initial repair cost, that's not reasonable. After explaining this to you several times on the phone, I see your still trying to damage our reputation by going out of your way to blog anyone that will listen. We believe you're getting very bad advice from the competitor, giving you false accusations. Sorry to disagree with you.

It could not have gone much better. Joe, the owner came to my home and sat down with me and explained everything; the cost of parts, labor, energy savings, different brands, indoor air quality, and why proper installation is the key to getting the most out of any system you buy. Face it, you can buy the best system but if it is installed by unqualified personnel the system will not function properly and cost you more in the end. La Canada Air was not the cheapest but were in the middle, and the installation was real quality and worth every penny! It has been a couple of years since the install and the system is working GREAT! I purchased the service contract so the system is checked twice a year-I think if you are spending $10,000 to $12,000 on your air quality maintenance is key. If I had it to do over again I wouldn't change a thing and I would hire La Canada Air & Heat!
Description of Work: Complete HVAC replacement. Outside air conditioner condenser/cooler unit replaced, but best of all was the furnace and blower assembly was moved from the middle of the house next to the kitchen to the attic. It freed up space for a pantry and made the house much quieter! New duct work, new refrigerant lines, and a Aprilaire 2210 HEPA filtration unit installed.

Shawn and Anthony showed up promptly every day with the necessary equipment and tools, worked very hard in difficult conditions and cleaned up every day. Everything they installed looked professional, neat and attractive. When they needed extra help for equipment removal and delivery they got it, and the metal work for the plenum and outside tube cover was excellent. The result was everything we could want.

This is the second time I have used La Canada AC in the past year. The first time was to service and existing AC unit in a rental unit we own. The service and cleaning was comprehensive and professional and brought the unit back to it's original condition. Temperature and flow at each register was within proper ranges. They also made a new plenum for the unit since the existing plenum at rusted out. We should have use out of the unit for years to come. My second experience was with the installation of an AC unit in the attic of our historic home. La Canada AC installed a 3 ton unit to cool the upstairs during those hot weeks in August and Sept. They were the lowest price of 3 companies that cared enough to bid for my business and were also available to do the installation in a reasonable time. The installation was done professionally and in time for those hot summer days. The installation team showed up each moring on time and cleaned up each day when their work was complete. They worked with me on the location of each register and the runs for the copper and condensation lines. They offere a 10 year parts and labor guarantee and followed up with a small electrical problem I was having after installation. I was very pleased with the workmanship and would certainly use LA Canada AC again.

Everything went exactly as planned until it was time to start it up. Turned out my thermostat wasn't working properly. They replaced it at no charge. They worked in 90+ degree temperature and didn't stop until everything was working okay. This was a major replacement requiring a crane to remove the old unit off the roof and replace it with the new. All the work was coordinated from getting the old unit disconnected to the removal to the installation of the new unit. I found the process very interesting.
Description of Work: I had my 20-year-old rooftop a/c and heating unit replaced. I have been doing business with this company for 20 years. We are used to good service from LCA for 18 years but this month when our AC went out they couldn't schedule us because they were busy with new installations. The receptionist said they were booked all through August and would "fit us in". 2 weeks went by with no service so we checked back and the receptionist admitted we had fallen through the cracks, even though we told them half our house had no AC. We were then scheduled for this week between 2 and 4 pm and the they called at 3:55 to tell us they were on their way. The receptionist called to tell us there was nobody home at 4:15. When I discussed with the lady that it had been La Canada that was late, not us being derelict, and that we had waited 3 weeks for this service, she got snippy with me. We will not be renewing our service with them.

Response from La Canada Air Conditioning & Heating
Dear Mr. [member name removed]; Thank you for your past business over the last 18 years. This is the first I've heard about this issue. I can't believe this episode would discourage your business. I looked into this call and it was written up as weak airflow in the living room, but not for the no air conditioning in half the house. We must have got that wrong. Last week when we performed the maintenance for both units, no other problems were discovered. The calls have always been set-up with an arrival time within a range of time as an estimated time period. A call between 2-4 arriving at 4:15 is within the estimated time period. Had we arrived at 4:00, we still needed the time to perform the work. Since nobody was home we needed to reschedule another visit. Which has been completed satisfactorily. This has been the longest and hottest summers we have had in a long time which has put an enormous strain on everyone trying to stay cool. We ask for your patients and understanding and will try to do better in the future.

Earlier this week our AC acted up, so I called La Canada AC hoping they could help. The woman on the phone said Thursday was the earliest they could come but if something opened up sooner, they'd call. I thought that would be fine. It's thursday later morning, the day of our appointment, so I called to confirm our appointment and was told their dispatcher would have to call me back. The dispatcher called me back to say next Tuesday is the earliest they could fit me in. Not only could she have been nicer, but I would have appreciated a courtesy call to let me know. I'm sorry to say they were a total disappointment.

[member name removed], We're very sorry we could not get your call scheduled during the last heat wave we experienced. As you were told in the beginning, we were overbooked already and could not fit in every more appointments in that next day which you had requested. You said you needed someone immediately or to forget it. Our receptionist suggested you try to find someone else if your business needed quicker service than we could provide. She tried to get you to find the filters and get them changed but you were unfamiliar with the filter locations. Since we had never visited your building in the past, we were unfamiliar with your system and unable to give you the assistance you required. Please be fair with your negative remarks and "F" grading, designed to tear down our reputation. We never were able to service your equipment. Accept the responsibility of having your equipment properly serviced before the next blazing heat wave. Stop taking out your frustration on the ones trying to be helpful!

3 to 5 workers were at our house for 4 days and they were prompt, professional, clean and respectful. The job was estimated to take 5 to 8 days but was completed in about 4 1/2 days including the final trouble shooting of the broken thermostat wire. The system is now up and running just in time for July, August and September - The hottest months in SOCAL. We are pleased and would recommend La Canada Air to our friends and neighbors.

It was for a lady I was helping. It was a house that never had air conditioning and it had a sixty year old furnace. They are not the cheapest but they are by far the best. They are just the best at any critical heating and air conditioning engineering or matching systems or making sure that the ducting matches the output of the furnace, things like that. I use them on really critical projects because no one comes close to their quality of work.
Description of Work: La Canada Air Conditioning & Heating came out and removed an old furnace from a house and put in an energy efficient furnace. Air conditioning wasn't put in at that time but instead we put in a new coil because the AC was so much money.

La Canada Air came in after another heating/cooling company gave us a bogus quote and performed faulty work. Joe and his crew took over the job, walked around our home with us for over two hours and explained everything that needed to be done. His team started work right away (thank you Sean!) and were prompt, clean and super friendly. They did a great job, our AC is working like new and we couldn't have been happier with the job they did. We will definitely be using them for all of our heating and cooling needs. Thank you!

When the system wouldn't start on a very hot day and tripped the breaker, I feared the worst and worried that I was facing a system replacement. Called La Canada HVAC for a service appointment. They were booked of course, so we had to tough it out for a few days longer. They called to confirm on the appointed day, showed up on time and fixed the problem by replacing a failed motor capacitor. The cost was far less than it would have been if I had needed to replace the system. Vince the technician was thorough and professional and checked the air filter too and replaced it as well.

Overall it was a good experience. Our condo is old and the available space for heating/ ac system is tight. Plus the condenser has to be located on the roof, so installation is a real challenge. It took three days of difficult work to install the system, and on completion it would not operate. Whose fault this was I don't know. What I do know is that the company supplied the needed new part and kept coming back until the system worked fine. The delay was frustrating for all concerned, but in the end problems were solved. I was impressed by the level of commitment shown by the workers and the owner. They were determined to complete the job to our satisfaction. Everyone was pleasant, easy to have in the house and cleaned up at the end of the day. This company sold us a new furnace and air conditioning system twelve years ago. They maintained the system and did needed repairs over the years. When the system began to give problems earlier this year, we received good information about our options. That is why we bought our new sytem from La Canada Air. We will continue to depend on them in the future.

I called-up La Canada Air Conditioning company to come and clean and inspect my heating system and check for holes in the duct work. Joe, the owner, arrived a bit late, blaming it on his front-end staff. He then opened the front of the heating system and then quickly closed it. He said that it wasn't worth cleaning, and said I needed a new system immediately. He said this was a hazardous mess (rat droppings) and that the system had never been cleaned or worked on. He than proceeded to try and sell me a new $7,000-$10,000 system. I have never had to pay for a sales call before but he was insistant that he had earned the service call. Complete rip-off. The truth is that I have had the heating/air conditioner maintained and filters changed (I'm a mechanic's daughter and I take pride in keeping my home in good working order). The system was and still is in good working condition. The area did need cleaning and duct-work repair and replacement still needed to be done. Since Joe didn't want to do any of the maintenance on my system, I called our handyman who replaced all my duct-work and cleaned my heating/air conditioning system. It has now been a year since the work has been completed and my heater and air conditioning system is working perfectly and I've saved myself thousands of dollars doing do-dillengence by maintaining my system. Replacement need not be the only answer. I wish we had more service people who took pride in maintaining what we have instead of suggesting that we need something new.
Description of Work: No work was performed since Joe, the owner of La Canada Heating and Air Conditioning, felt that my system needed to be replaced since he thought it was a hazardous mess. He then spent the next hour or so trying to scare me into buying a new system while telling me my current system would make me sick.

Response from La Canada Air Conditioning & Heating
You placed a "SERVICE CALL" almost a year ago, Feb. 2012, to have a qualified technician, come to your house in Pasadena, to examine your 27 year old furnace in the basement because you had rodents tearing open and destroying the duct-work. The ducts were laying in the dirt and had been torn open. The system had rats living in the ducts with droppings all around the unit and had not been "properly serviced" or regular filter changes every 30 days. The inside of the system was filthy because the filters you were using done fit correctly and are not efficient enough to stop the dirt from entering the system. It is very costly to "properly clean-out" all the built up dirt and bacteria from inside your system. We needed to remove the unit and steam clean out the rat urine and feces in order to get the system healthy again. We offered to thoroughly clean the furnace and replace the ducts for less than $2000. but you didn't want to authorize any further work. When you placed the service call, you were quoted a service charge fee to send our technician to your house of $86 , which you agreed too! With the cost of running a business in today's market, the time spent consulting with you, obtaining the insurances coverage, proper city and state licenses, the cost of gasoline expenses and having a qualified technician respond to your needs, this is very reasonable. He spent almost 2 1/2 hours at your job explaining to you the need for a clean system and itemized the prices for each part of the job. We only recommended that you clean up the system because the furnace is so dirty and it is over 27 years old. It is at the end of its useful life expectancy of 20 years (under proper service conditions). At that age of equipment the fireboxes break open and cause the carbon monoxide to leak into your airflow and also the open flame can cause a house fire. You were offered that the service call charge would be applied to any of the work we were recommending, giving you a "Free Estimate". You never authorized any of the work we recommended. We called to follow up on the recommendation but never heard from you. The City of Pasadena REQUIRES a permit to perform this type of work by a licensed C-20 Heating contractor. The new State Energy demands a certification called H.E.R.S. testing of the ducts in order to validate the performance of the ducts and when work is performed without a permit and without the HERS testing, the State will now FINE THE CONTRACTOR UP TO $5000. on the first violation! I'm sure your handyman inspected the heat exchanger for cracks or leakage and got the correct permits as a proffessional company is required to do, and is licensed and has $2 mill. dollars in General Liability Insurance, as we do. I doubt it! Non-permitted 'Bootleg' projects being performed is how this system got in bad shape in the first place. Just because you got bad news and the problem could not be fixed on the same call, your now trying to defamed us? We did not cause your system to become so deteriorated and unhealthy. We came to your house, spent the time to educate you, gave you our written estimate with the prices broken down and completed the service call visit. There was nothing else we could do until you authorized the work needed. Please be 'FAIR' in your comments and reconsider the service that was provided, instead of your negative comments aimed to hurt our reputation and to cause other to believe your fabricated story!

Long time Pasadena 4 unit property owner. First heater company told me I had to replace the whole furnace for $4,000 when it in fact could be safely repaired for $460. Seriously ! Very grateful to the La Canada plumbing heating company for great job, great price and being total pros. Angie's list led me right to them. Worth it times 10. Will use Angie and this Heating CO again YES definitely - MW Pasadena DEC 2012

Our heater went out in February and the house was very cold at night. La Canada Air Conditioning and Heating responded to our service call promptly. The technician determined that we needed to replace the old heating unit. He gave us a variety of heaters from which to choose. He ordered and installed the new heater as soon as it arrived, within a few days. Additionally, La Canada Air Conditioning and Heating has always serviced our air conditioning unit. They have always provided prompt and excellent service.

Installation and entire aspect of job went very well without delay and continued until everything was completed. There were no surprises or extra cost or run around. Most importantly capacity of system was well designed and has functioned very well with the hot and cold outside tempatures. It has been working without repair or incident for 5 years now. Their suggested filter cleaning system saved us from suffering from smoke and ash during the fire storm that accord in close proximity 1 mile from the house. In an isolated part of our house there is a separate unit installed in the wall was having problems with it and no body the manufacturer or the authorized dealer would not come out and service the unit for me but La Canada came out and serviced the unit for me. The workman went out of his way in installing ceiling vents and did it without any damage in the ceiling. It was like it was done when the house was built.
Description of Work: They installed the air conditioning unit in 2007. They come out a service the AC yearly upon my request. La Canada air and heating installed from scratch a new heating and air unit, including an attic fan and a special air filter cleaning system, ducting, and they had to create new hole in the ceiling to get into the attic so they had to carpentry work as well and extra electrical. They took their time in explaining the heating and AC unit that was recommended until we completely understood how the unit worked.
