Excellent customer service on the phone. The technician arrived on time, and did a thoroughly professional job. He observed incorrect installation issues from previous leaky water heater, and installed corrections (pan and drip tube). Afterwards, the water heater was inspected by the city (as is code), and the inspector said that it was a perfect job. We would definitely use Fast Water Heater again!!
Description of Work: removed leaking water heater, replaced with new water heater, and upgraded the water heater closet to make sure a leak would be less involved if it happens again

They guy came out and the work ended up costing us double. That did not bother me at all. The man who came out went beyond being human to help us out. It was amazing. I must say this guy was phenomenal. He really went out of his way so that we could have hot water starting on the day he showed up. He was able to get us a temporary solution on the day he came out and came back after that weekend to install the correct system. He went out of his way to make sure we had hot water for the weekend.

Arranging for the water heater installation was fine. We discussed different options (size of the water heater, various quality--primarily warranty period, and the process for installation and permits.) The installation of the water heater went great. The installer showed up when he said he would, he explained the work he would have to do to ensure that the replacement water heater was "up to code," and then explained the charges that corresponded to the charges beyond the core installation. (Strapping for earthquake, grounding the pipes, a pan underneath the heater, and a drain pipe for the pressure valve.) I signed off on the work, and it was completed as stated. I was actually very impressed at the work that was done--it looked great. He even pointed out the drain pipe pointing to the garage floor, just to ensure that I knew that if it was ever necessary, it would get water on the garage floor. (Which is fine, as I don't keep anything of value on the floor in the garage.) Keep this last part in mind. He also explained the permit process, and said that he didn't think there would be any problems, but if there was, feel free to call them so they could make it right. Shortly after, I received a follow up call that was focused on selling me solar panels. It was done under the guise of checking to see if I was happy with my water heater installation, but the majority of the call was spent on trying to sell (or lease, more specifically) solar panels. I didn't give it much thought at the time, but I feel it's a bit tacky to try to telemarket solar panels as a result of a water heater installation. THREE months later, I received the permit that was issued two weeks after the installation. This was sent by Fast. I called the local inspector and had him do the inspection. Alas, all was not well. That drain pipe mentioned above? Well, it was not within code requirements. It MUST be routed outside, and at least 6" and nor more than 18" above the grade. I looked this up--it's clearly documented, and was fully documented at the time the water heater was installed. Simply, the installer did not install a water heater that was up to code standards. Though it was a bit annoying to me that I would have to arrange a follow up visit (I work 37 miles from my home.), it didn't really bother me very much. So, I called them to get this fixed. The gentleman on the phone said it would be 4-5 business days before someone would get back to me. That brought my annoyance level back up. I would bet that calling them with something else that was going to generate revenue would have had much better attention. Well, two weeks passed with no phone call. So, I called again. I walked the representative through the situation again. This time, I was told that "as a courtesy" they would send someone out to "do an estimate of what it would take to bring it up to code." There was no recognition that it should have been done right the first time. And, worse, it was projected as doing me a favor (waiving the fee to come out again). I told the representative that my bottom line was that they installed a water heater that wasn't to code, and that I expected them to do it at NO CHARGE. He then debated with me about whether or not the code was just interpreted incorrectly by the inspector. So, I read the section to him. There is NO room for interpretation. I was told that someone would get back with me within the next two business days. The next two business days came and went. No call. I am so fed up with dealing with these people, I'm going to get an estimate from another vendor to fix what should have been done right in the first place. I'll probably take them to small claims court at that point, while at the same time report them to the county/state for installing water heaters that do not meet code standards. If they did mine wrong, it stands to reason that others were done the same way. So, although the initial installation seemed to go well, it was actually completely undone by the fact that they didn't handle the after-the-fact work in a professional manner. I cannot recommend this company, and in fact, warn people to stay away. They should have known the local code, and installed the water heater in such a way that it met the standards. They also should have been better and ushering through the permit, as that was what they were paid to do. From my perspective, they have no excuses here. (As they have responded in other feedback comments.) The bottom line is that they didn't do the installation correctly, and didn't step up to make it right. And, expecting me to pay for work after the fact isn't a right answer. I approved the installation of a water heater that was up to code. I did so after I was presented with the total costs. To come back later and add more costs (Not that I've even had the ability to have them come back out to do that!) is just plain unacceptable, and unethical. (And probably illegal.) Update - They stepped up and completed the work, without any issues whatsoever. Once I was able to get past the individual(s) that answer their phone, things progressed quickly and professionally. As a result, I'm updating my rating. They ultimately did the right thing, and that is what really shows the ethics of a company's culture. I left the responsiveness as a "C" due to the large time lag between calls and action. Hopefully, they will train the folks taking the calls to perform at a level that is commensurate with the overall company's work ethic.

[Member name removed], Thanks for your review and I am sorry you were unhappy with the installation. I reviewed both the initial bid as well as the photo of the job. You are correct, it is code to pipe the P&T to the exterior. Because the tech did not quote this on the initial bid, we typically would do this at no cost to you. I will reach out to you via phone. If you have not had this done, we will take care of it. If you had someone else do it we will help cover the cost. On a separate note, this code is truthfully over-regulation. Most states do not require the P&T to the exterior and it is in fact not a bad thing to be able to see it because if it is discharging and/or going off - it's a good thing to know that. I also viewed from the photo where the P&T was routed, and it looks like it was going onto a cement floor in the corner - which from a safety perspective looks reasonable. Regardless, we will reach out and we will take care of this work item. We apologize for your inconvenience.

When I called water heater installers I made a list of questions like sales tax included or not. If plumber at site insists any thing is not included call compeny rep to clarify.
Description of Work: I was looking for water heater in Home Depot and came to know they also install water heaters through Fast Heater co. They got all my information and rep called and quoted the price. Then I called few more places including Lowes and zero in Fast Heater and Coast Plumbing and Heating. Both give me same price $799 plus permits. But Fast Heater has 5% discount for senior citizens so I decided to go with them. Next day Jason came he was punctual and professional and checked heater and water pressure. He give me estimate and suggested upgrades which I declined. He finish his job with smile and give me genral instructions and clean up the work area. He did not mantioned once that I have not accepted his advice which every Plumber consider his birth right to double up his profit. His work was excellent and I will recommend him .

Sorry you found us too expensive. It looks like from the bid the major cost drivers were not the water heater but the fact that the venting was a fire hazard as it was installed by the previous installer and we needed to replace that. In addition, there were problems with your gas line that were unsafe and the P&T valve needed to be run to the exterior. The previous installer apparently was not familiar with these common safety items.

Their service was good. I went through Home Depot to get the service. They came when they said they were going to come. They removed the old water heater and installed the new one. The price was higher than I thought it was going to be. They had to do some work to bring the water heater up to code. The other water heater was about 25 years old.

I went to the Home Depot and picked out a water heater. All water heaters sold by Home Depot are all delivered and installed by Fast Water Heater Co., up and down the entire West Coast. I asked that they come out and give me an estimate for installation. The price of the water heater was $468. The posted price for “basic installation” at Home Depot was $197. The company’s rep was polite and punctual. He gave me an estimated cost of $1,568 (including the water heater). The bid showed many items as “included” in this package. I asked for a more detailed breakdown. He then created an itemized bid which came out to $1,838. He stated that it was doubtful whether the county inspector would pass the work performed on the water heater due to its location, which the rep stated was too close to a nearby tree, and too close to my lanai. (This would have entailed thousands of dollars more, to lay new piping to the new location.) He also told me that I needed a new vent because it didn’t have enough clearance from the house; that I needed a new water shut off valve because the old one was “frozen”; and that the foundation for the shed (which holds the water heater) was inadequate and I’d probably have to have a contractor who pours concrete come out and re-do the concrete pad. Thinking that all this was a bit excessive for a simple replacement of a water heater, I went to the County of Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety. I took along pictures of the existing water heater, the shed, the clearance, the house and the tree and showed them to a building inspector. He said that some of the items recommended by the company rep were not required: the clearance was fine, no problem with the concrete pad, the vent did not need to be moved. He also thought the price was excessive. I ran into an old friend who happens to be a plumber. He installed a different, more expensive and better quality water heater for $1,100, including labor. Although the rep from Fast Water Heater Co. was very accomodating, he was misinformed about a number of items. Some of what he told me was inaccurate. I subsequently wasted several hours trying to determine what was really necessary (by going to the County and asking questions). Also, the confusion over the price difference between the two bids received made me spend more time. I went back to Home Depot to find out why there was such a large discrepancy between the two bids, and between the bids and the posted “basic installation.” For these reasons, I can’t give this company a grade higher than “C”.

First, we are sorry you were not happy with our service. The clearance issue is in fact required by CA code due to fire hazard issues. It sounds like the local inspector opted not to enforce it. Please be aware, we do have a best price gaurantee. We will beat any competitor's bid by 5% as long as they are pulling a permit to do the work.

We purchased a new home and the previous owner had jerry rigged (aka "Mickey Moused", cobbled together) a larger hot water tank than was possible into the space next to the furnace by putting it and its 4" exhaust pipe into the 3" Y-connector which had 3" + 4" inputs and a 5" output, which went up a 6" chimney and out the roof. The result of all of this is that Carbon Monoxide was leaking into the house, and The Gas Company would not turn on the gas leading to the furnace/water heater unless we fixed the situation. The Fast Water Heater Company worked with me to quote a price for an instant hot water system and, though pricey, advised me that this was the last year to receive a stimulus tax credit for installation, where I would receive 33% back from Uncle Sam. The installer was polite, professional, and truly wanted to "do a great job for all the money we were spending". He took pride in his work and involved me by setting my expectations before the job and showed me his progress afterwards. The work included - Removing the big (75 gal), old, jerry-rigged water heater, and the exhaust - Splitting the gas at the main, running it inside the garage and about 20 feet along the interior of the garage to the unit. - Reconnecting the furnace exhaust solely to the chimney. - Running intake and exhaust PVC about 15' to avoid exhausting underneath a window. - Connecting the water heater to the circ pump The quality really surprised me. The water heater was mounted nicely and looks beautiful (stainless steel, I think), the piping looks clean, and what amazed me was that the exterior stucco used to patch the various holes for gas & intake/exhaust matches the house color completely. I was certainly very happy with the installers' work, and I was also happy with the main company, who pulled permit and even sent me a packet with: - The permit with work circled, and the work summary. - A reminder for follow up inspection by the city with the phone number printed & highlighted. - A filled out rebate slip ready to send to the water heater company (Eternal) for refund with for SoCal Gas.
Description of Work: Replaced a jerry-rigged hot water heater which allowed carbon monoxide to enter through the draft diverter due to incorrect size exhaust and plumbing to different branded exhaust tubes (ones which were cut open with tin snips and metallic taped around the unit). - Installed new instant hot water heater - Ran new gas line - Ran exhaust line - Connected to circ pump - Reconnected Furnace with correct exhaust parts to chimney.

They came out quickly and installed a temporary tanked water heater the day I called them. They then scheduled to come back out about a week later to intall the tankless heater and run the new water and gas lines. The crew they sent were proforssional. They did a good job of hiding the new gas line that had to be installed along the front of the house. They cleaned up when finished. The job took three days total. When the job was finished the installer told me that we should check with the gas company about having a new larger meter installed due to the higher BTU requirements of the tankless compaired to the old tanked heater. Later, after the gas company had come out, Fast water heater had to come back out to install a new connection between the meter and the new lines they had run so that the gas company could install the new larger meter. They came out quickly and did the job at no extra cost to me. I am extremely happy with the job.

Our water heater went out on a Sunday afternoon. Found Fast Water Heater Co. on Angie's List. Quoted $1000 for a 50 gal. water heater with installation and a building permit. Any building code upgrades would be additional. The installer arrived the next day, earlier than scheduled. He determined the 50 gal. tank would not fit even though we provided the shed dimensions when scheduling the service. Turns out they have a variety of tanks in their trucks, so he was still able to install a 40 gal. tank (12 year warranty) which took about 2 hours. Building code upgrades added another $400, so total cost was $1400 even with the smaller water heater. Unfortunately, the work did not pass inspection. Building code requires water heaters be 3" above grade and it wasn't. Notified Faster Water Heater and they sent a different person who was uninformed of the problem and thus unprepared to correct the code problem (He didn't have a slab to raise the water heater.) After some rescheduling he returned and on this 3rd visit, the installer had to completely disassemble everything and then reinstall it. This time it passed inspection. So the whole process took a month after the original installation. Overall, it was an inconvenient hassle, so I do not recommend this company. Now I know why they offer DIY service for less $ without a permit meaning they do most of the work except for a final step or two that you do yourself to actually connect the water heater.

We reviewed the job in question. We feel in this case the city was not being reasonable but we complied because sometimes it makes sense to just get the work done. We also called the customer after seeing this review. We apologize for the technician who came to their house unprepared to do the correction. This was sloppy and it will affect that technician's review. Further, we have offerred and sent compensation to the customer for wasting their time in this case. We apologize - it costs us money as well when we take a wasted trip. The tech and his manager have both been made aware of the situation.

Father and son installers Pat and Matt showed up on time, were professional and friendly and did a very clean demo of old tank and install of new unit in less than 6 hours. I felt this was pretty quick, considering they had to lay all new pipe to relocate the water heater from inside to the new position, mounted on an exterior wall. All in all they did an excellent job and the tankless water heater is absolutely perfect for our house -- no more running out of hot water! It would have been nice if they could have patched the holes on the wall of our laundry room after removing the old tank and its pipes, but I understand that's not in their job description -- so I need to patch them myself. Other than that, I'm very happy with their service and the result!

I went to Home Depot to purchase the water heater with installation. They contract out to Fast Water Heater. I called to obtain an estimate for purchase and installation. I was given over the phone an estimate of approximatley $979.00 with some possiable additions to bring the installation UP TO CODE (this is the gotcha part). When the repair arrived and started checking off what was required, that estimate balloned to 2040. I think they do a song and dance to pad the installation cost. Needless to say I didn't use them and the one part that they were going to charge $589.00 for, a temperture and pressure release valve, was included with the water heater I purchased and had installed by someone else. What a ripoff.

First, we apologize that this customer had a bad experience with us. Because this job came to us through Home Depot, we have to permit the work. Currently, California requires that the pressure and temp relief be piped to the exterior and it was not at this home. This is heavily enforced by city inspectors. Because the heater was in an inside closet, it was not possible to pipe this to the outside. The $589 cited was in fact for something called a "Watts 210 Valve" which automatically shuts the water heater down when there is a temperature/pressure problem and is an alternative to piping the P&T to the outside. The customer also had what is called an old "greasepack" gas valve which are known to leak. She also did not have earthquake straps. The total price also included the city permit. The bottom line, however, is that in this case the big driver of cost was the issue with piping the P&T valve to the exterior. If a job comes to us directly (outside of a major retailer), the customer does have the option to sign a permit waiver which makes the home owner responsible for pulling their own permit. This is permissible under CA law under "Owner-Builder" regulations. When a home owner does this, we have more flexibility on which work items we perform. However, in this case, because this job came to us from Home Depot, we are required to always obtain the permit under our contractor's license. This can, as in this case, add to the cost significantly in order to comply with state and city requirements. We again apologize if the customer was not happy. We believe it is likely that their contractor who did the work did did it unpermitted. We can do this in some cases but at this point never on a job that comes to us through The Home Depot.

I called Fast Water Heater Company and talked to Scott. Scot was very helpfull he explained the process to me and set an appointment fo the same day. I was given a 4 hour window time for arrival. Matt was the technican that came to my home he called me about 30 minutes prior to arriving and was right in the middle of the time set. Matt surveyed the job and explained everything thaqt needed to be done he told me about the permit process and what to expect. The entire installation took about 3 hours. Matt cleaned up after the work was completed and showed me how the hater worked.
