I was pleased with the initial technician. The service after that was abysmal. I cannot believe this company is still in business.
Description of Work: I had a great initial experience with Bonney. My upstairs toilet was plugged up and the technician spent a lot of time -- over an hour -- until he was successful in snaking the toilet -- failure to do so would have required that he remove the toilet, and turn it upside down, which would have been very expensive. He also discovered that the pressure release valve on my hot water heater had never been connected when Delta Mechanical (through Home Depot) installed it a couple of years ago (that's a whole 'nother story!). He charged me slightly less than $100 for the whole job, which was more than fair. He was so good, I decided I would stick with Bonney for all my plumbing needs in the future. A month or so later, my toilet was running constantly. I called Bonney again and arranged to have the serviceman come out to fix my running toilet and unplug my upstairs bathroom sink. He was scheduled to come out on Saturday, January 29, 2012, between 1 pm and 5 pm. At 5:15 pm, someone from Bonney called to tell me he wouldn't make it. I arranged to have my sister meet him at my townhouse on Wednesday, February 1, 2012. My sister often performs this task for me, and we have never had issues with it before. My sister called me in an agitated state that Wednesday and told me (in the hearing of the technician, Robert) that I needed to talk to "this guy, because he keeps saying different things" and my sister was confused. I spoke to Robert who informed me that he had replaced the flapper in my toilet but the handle broke off in his hand, and that I needed to replace the entire toilet. I asked how much and he said "$545.00." I knew this to be expensive as I had previously replaced the downstairs toilet for half that amount, but just wanted it done. I asked Robert twice if the $545 was all-inclusive, and covered "everything he had done." Both times, Robert replied in the affirmative. He stated that he had the toilet in his truck and could do it right then. I agreed (my sister had my credit card). After getting off the phone, he informed my sister that he did not have the right-priced toilet on his truck and would be back at 2pm Saturday, February 4 to complete the install. My sister asked him if he had already charged the credit card and he siad no. She said that she thought he had, and wanted a receipt from him. Robert told her again he had not run the card and did not have a receipt. He left the toilet running -- the whole reason I had called him to begin with! - and my sister and I had to tighten the chain ourselves to get the new flapper to work properly. He did unstick the bathroom sink. When Robert returned on 2/4/2012, he wasn't even in the house for two minutes before he was telling me that it was going to cost an additional $250 to pour concrete and "set" the toilet. I reminded him that he had twice said that $545 was all-inclusive, and he claimed that was because my sister had told him that she would pour the concrete(!). I told him that was the most ludicrous thing I had ever heard, and that even if it were true, he did not specify that as a condition when I asked him about the cost on Wednesday. I said I was going to call the company, and he began saying he didn't want to get into trouble, and that he would pour the concrete free of cost. He then informed me that the total cost was actually over $850 -- $229 for unplugging the bathroom sink, replacing the toilet flapper, and purchasing a warranty. I told him that I had not agreed to purchase a warranty and I knew that my sister hadn't either because she warned me that he tried to get her to sign it for me. Eventually, we agreed that he would replace the toilet plus work completed for $750. At this point, I just wanted a toilet replacement and Robert out of my house. However, his boss refused to approve the price. At that time, I discovered that Robert had charged my credit card for $850+ on Wednesday and subsequently lied about it to my sister about it. Furthermore, he was charging me $850+ at the same time he was telling me on the phone that the total cost would be $545. I told him to refund the difference between the work he had done and the remaining $500+ immediately. He was unable to do so (although the company did so first thing Monday). All in all, he charged me $350 to unplug my bathroom sink and replace a flapper that he failed to even install correctly. I am currently pursuing a formal complaint against this company with the Department of Consumer Affairs.
