I called and spoke with the owner Javier. I let him my type of car, model and year and that I needed the back window replaced. He said it would be $250 and I made an appointment. I had my brother take my car there to have the work done. While there, he spoke with Freddy, who said the price was actually going to be $350. I spoke with Freddy by phone who said because of the top on the car, it would be the higher price. I decided not to have the work done and found another company that did the same work for $250. I don't feel that they are trustworthy or reputable.
Description of Work: They gave an estimate to replace the rear window of my car.

I called Canoga Auto Body in Canoga Park for a referral to an auto upholsterer in my area. They recommended Chatsworth Auto Upholstery in Chatsworth. I went there on April 7,2011 and spoke to the owner, Javier, and after discussing what I wanted done and looking at my car, he gave me a written estimate of $3,500. and assured me that the work would be completed in 5 days as he had a crew of four men. Chatsworth wanted 50% up front instead of the customary 15 to 20%. I gave him a deposit of $1,000.00 and told him that I would give another deposit before I actually left him the car. On April 29, 2011, I returned and gave him an additional $800 and scheduled for the work to start on May 13, 2011. The car was to be finished on Thursday of the following week and ready for pick-up. I called on Wednesday, May 18, to make sure that my car would be ready the next afternoon but Javier was not certain as to when he would finish with it and it was taking longer than he thought . I asked him if it could be ready by next Tuesday and he said He would try but he would let me know. I spoke with him on Tuersday morning and he said he was having problems and the work was going slow and he was pretty sure that I could have the car by Thursday afternoon. At this point, I was alarmed at his total lack of professionalism and somewhat off handed manner. Finally, I received a call from him on Thursday morning, May 26, 2011 that my car would be ready by noon. When I got to his shop, I carefully looked at the upholstery and after feeling that the work was done as contracted, I paid him the remaining balance of $1,700.00 plus $97.50 in tax for a total of $1,797.50. IIt wasn't until the next morning when I was driving to an appointment that I noticed my radio station had been changed and the fuel gauge registered much less than when I had left the car. But I almost couldn't drive and nearly had to pull over when I noticed that I was looking through a completely different windshield! I am certain that I would have noticed all of this the day before on the drive home from the shop except that I live less than a mile from it and I was so relieved to have my car back. When I arrived at my destination,I called Javier and of course, he denied having done anything wrong. His last words to me were "II don't know what to tell you." I tried to file a stolen property report at the Northridge police station but was told that it was a matter for Small Claims Court. I called Union Bank because I had used my debit card for payment but they could only dispute the work that was contracted and the work had been done, so there was nothing they could do. So if I want to have the same factory issued windshield which has a built-in antennae that came with my Infiniti Q 45, it will cost me ( according to Miller Infiniti in Van Nuys ) $1,009.26 plus $200.00 for installation. And that is my experience with Chatsworth Auto Upholstery.
Description of Work: Reupholstered front and rear seats ,center console ,steering wheel, 4 door panel inserts , and 4 armrests in leather. Also, reupholstered 4 door openings (weatherstrips) with felt seals .

Response from chatsworth auto upholstery
Member’s vehicle is in need of a headliner replacement. We would consider giver her a 50% discount towards the replacement of her headliner. This offer is made without accepting any fault of any wrong doing. It is done out of goodwill, in an attempt to win her back as a customer for future service. I, Javier Perez owner of Chatsworth Auto Upholstery would like to express my sincere regret at member’s complaint and dissatisfaction with my company. Unfortunately after personally conducting an investigation of member’s complaint I feel that my company cannot resolve this matter to your member’s satisfaction. The following is a list of reasons for why I have come to this decision: First with regards to the claim that the windshield had been replaced in her vehicle, I would like to point out that none of the work done on her vehicle involved removal of the windshield. Had work been done on the dashboard or headliner in member’s vehicle, removal of the windshield may have been necessary since these items typically are near the windshield. However, as mentioned in member’s description of the work completed by my company on her vehicle (as contracted), none of it involved any of these items. I would also like to add that when member shared this concern with me, I asked her to bring her vehicle to my facility so that I could inspect her vehicle and validate her claim, we had an additional conversation on July 5, 2011 that lasted 22 minutes, I asked her again to bring the vehicle in to my facility, and then on July 7, 2011 I called her and left a message to consider bringing her vehicle for inspection and validation of her claim, In neither occasion did member accept my request. Also, I would like to add that we do not have the ability to perform the replacement of a windshield in her type of vehicle, whenever there is a need for a windshield to be replaced or to be removed we have to subcontract it to an Auto Glass company, with the customers approval. Also when she dropped her vehicle at my facility, she mentioned that she was in the process of restoring the vehicle and she had recently has the vehicle painted and had some mechanical work done to it (it is possible that the windshield might have been replaced elsewhere). Second with regard to the claim of the radio station been changed, I would like to point out that this was the result of the battery been disconnected on her vehicle. It is standard protocol by my company to disconnect the battery of any vehicle with airbags prior to the commencement of work. This is to ensure that the sensor for their airbags does not malfunction while work is been performed. Third with regard to the claim that work was not completed on time, I would like to point out that my company received verbal permission on two different occasions from the members to extend the date that work would be completed in her vehicle. This occurred once when member and I were finalizing paper work for the agreement of the work to be performed, she said “If you need additional time to finish the job its ok by me, I rather you take your time and do it right.” The second time when one of my employees (Tony) drove her home in her vehicle as a courtesy. On both occasions member stated that she wanted my employees to take their time with her vehicle to ensure that only quality work was done even if that meant taking additional time. If I had not received permission from her to extend the due date, I would have insured that the job was done by the original due date. Fourth, with regard to the fuel gage in her vehicle registering less than when she dropped it off, I would like to point out that the only time her vehicle was driven by us was to drive her home as a courtesy, and to drive it ten feet in and out of our workshop daily for safe keeping inside overnight. Member lives 1 mile away. Given the short distances that her vehicle was driven by us, my company cannot accept responsibility for this claim. As a closing statement I’d like to say that I believe that my company did what we were contracted to do, we take pride in our work and do everything that is reasonable to keep our customers happy. The fact that member won’t bring her vehicle to our facility for inspection leads me to believe that her claim is based on speculations and an assumption that her windshield was replaced at my facility. We have been in business since 1977, and a problem like this has never occurred. 75% of our customers are repeats and referrals, the other 25% are new customers from the local advertising we do. Given these reasons by company cannot accept responsibility for this claim. While I certainly appreciate Member taking the time to make me aware of her concerns, I feel that at this point we’ve done all we can to address and resolve these concerns. Thank you, Javier Perez (owner)
