We asked John Hanen, owner of Against the Grain Flooring, for a bid to fix a botched 50-year-old repair in a 100-year-old hardwood floor. He gave us a complete description of what it would take, and how he would do it. We hired him. As problems arose during the repairs (old houses are not level or square), John described options before commencing. We especially liked that he talked with both of us, and listened to both of us. We also liked that he is a second-generation flooring person, and is apprenticing his son, Kenny, who is also very skilled. The repairs turned out superbly.

John and his son kenny did an exceptional job restoring a 65 year old oak floor. They were efficient with their time and ours. They did an excellent clean up job and were reasonably priced. We are very happy we hired them!

We highly recommend Against the Grain Flooring. We hired John to screen and recoat the hardwood floors in three rooms and repair and refinish the floor in a fourth room. We needed to get the work done before we moved in and John accommodated our schedule. There was a little miscommunication about what we wanted in the fourth room but John promptly and cheerfully fixed the problem at no extra charge. Thanks to John our floors now look great.

John did a great job on our floors! He was professional and responsible throughout this process from estimate to completion. We would definitely recommend him to others.

I called Against the Grain Flooring and spoke with John. He came over the next morning to look at our floor and gave us an estimate. I had avised him that i was getting furniture delivered the following week. He advised us the he was busy up till April but would be able to squeeze us in that weekend. Both John and his helper were very nice and worked very hard to get the job done. They went above and beyond our expecations. I will be having them back in the near future to work on our dinning room floor. They are very professional. Also, a pleasure to do business with. I will be recommending them to our friends and family.
