Albert Nahman Plumbing, Heating, and Cooling

Gabriel came out to give an estimate on replacing our old leaky conventional water heater with a new tankless one. He was prompt, articulate, and took time to understand the constraints of the job. Afterward, I called a few other plumbers to validate the quote. One other plumber came in a little above price and two other plumbers came in at about half the cost. The lower cost bids were from plumbers who were not going to file permits or guarantee that the work would pass inspection -- both of which Albert Nahman did for us. I know plenty of people who would have gone with these lower bids -- but in my case, I wanted a reliable, above board job from plumbers who would stand by their work. And that is exactly what I got. The work went ahead and was delivered on time and on price. There was a some minor confusion at the end during the city inspection which they handled for us as part of the job. (It was a technical issue about placement of an electrical box which they arranged for as part of the project). Within a few days the issue was fixed and on second inspection the job passed. Overall Albert Nahman was great. I am very happy with the work and I would certainly call them again for future projects.

I called Albert Nahman Plumbing late one morning, when I suspected that the water line from the EBMUD meter to my home had broken. They came within an hour or so, and confirmed that this was in fact the problem. They also confirmed my opinion that fixing the 60-year-old galvanized line was not prudent, and that it would be preferable to replace it with a new copper line. Before the end of that same day, they e-mailed me a fixed-price proposal to install a new copper line. The path which the new line would have to follow was challenging, including crossing under a wooden retaining wall and a moss rock retaining wall, under the width of a concrete driveway, and down a very steep slope. The scope of the job was: excavating a trench for the new line, including break-up and removal of a section of that driveway; installing the line, new valves, and a new pressure relief valve; backfilling the excavation; and re-pouring the concrete driveway section. I accepted their proposal as submitted, and work began early the next morning. Water service to our home, using the new line, was restored before the promised completion date of the job. All of Albert Nahman ?s staff were prompt, professional, and courteous. All work was excellently done, and our property was left neat and clean at the end of each work day. County inspection was passed immediately upon completion of the work. The entire project was completed well on time. During the course of the job, there were periodic communications between me and the home office staff, including Mr. Nahman himself. I felt totally informed at every step of the way, and found everyone involved to be responsive and very interested in making sure that I, the customer, was completely satisfied with every aspect of the work. I'd unreservedly recommend Albert Nahman Plumbing & Heating to anyone who might have need of such services.

All was fine. They were friendly ( although rooting for the wrong football team!..ha) a bit pricey but the work was excellent.

First. The level of professionalism was amazing. Prompt and was optimistic. I spoke with representative and explained that I was working out of town so needed some help replacing 2 toilet leaks and needed a storm drain flushed. Was great to move an appointment so he could help scheduled asap. They showed up with time window so still A level. Despite a 50.00 service fee to just show up. So important to note that we discussed the make and tank # of the toilets; so replacing a valve is a pretty simple task with extremely cheap parts. The representative told my wife that he validated the 2 toilets needed new flush valves and that since the tanks were 14 years old; he recommended a complete replacement of the toilets and quoted over $800.00 to replace them. He then stated if we wanted to keep the existing toilets but wanted to replace the flapper and flush valve it would be over $700.00. Obviously no one in their right mind would agree to such a outrageous estimate. The representative then suggests a name of a friend who can come back and do it; and left his contact information with my wife. HE LEFT WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING AT THE STORM DRAIN. I have no problem paying a service fee or even paying a bit more to have someone perform a task; but to provide specifically what type of tank we had would lead me to believe I was asked for a reason so the representative would show up with the tools and supplies to repair that model at a competitive price. Replacing a flush valve and flapper or heck to even take the whole tank off and replace every element inside would be less than 1 hour work and certainly not over $700.000. The fact that a brand new toilet replacement would be $800.000 validates the outrages repair estimate. WE LOST $50.00 TO WHAT I WOULD SUMMARIZE AS FRAUDULENT SERVICE CALL. TO OFFER A FRIEND TO COME BACK AND FIX THE TOILETS OFF THE RECORD #1, TO EVEN QUOTE OVER $700.00 TO REPAIR A FLUSH VALVE AND THEN TO NOT EVEN LOOK AT THE STORM DRAIN IS A JOKE. I get the fact that it's a business and a $10.00 part could be pushed to $50.00 and let's even say they make $100.00 p/ hour. Maybe then saying $150.00 but $700.00? Come on! I DID CALL THEM TO SPEAK ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED AND HALF WAY THROUGH WAS ASKED IF I COULD HOLD AND I REPLIED NO; I'D LIKE TO DISCUSS WHAT HAPPENED. REPRESENTATIVE STATED I NEEDED TO BE PUT ON HOLD; SO HERE I AM $50.00 LESS IN MY POCKET AND EXPOSED TO A MOM AND POP OPERATION WITH LOW BUSINESS ETHIC. Lesson learned. I went online and ordered the parts to be shipped to my house and I'll install myself; Just was hoping to spend time with my kid versus home repairs on my 1 day off. Less than $40.00 of parts and will take me (an amateur) less than 1 hour to complete. What I get for being lazy and trying to find a 'professional' FRUSTRATING. No response can justify this experience UPDATE I got back home and stopped at home depot. Bought 2 universal repair kits for 40.00 total. I spent 30 minutes replacing every component inside the toilets. Both repaired with all new parts in about 1 hour for 40.00 conclusion is these guys are simply trying to collect as many 50.00 service calls and are intentional about giving outrages estimates as there is probably more money in simply loading the calendar with quick service calls. What a joke! Get off Angie's list!

I picked Nahman from Angies List because they were A rated and i needed to limit the time I took off work. They called the day before to confirm the appointment; tech showed up during the window of time; was careful, very professional - wore booties in the house. All that is a well deserved 'A'. Nahman charges by task. They have a menu of types of work (e.g. clearing a drain) and a fixed price. There was a trip charge that I would pay if I rejected the fixed price - and this was explained when I called to make the initial appointment and by the tech. Each task also has a discount price if you commit to paying an annual 'club' fee that includes an annual plumbing inspection. They are expensive however they did good work. But, but, but - the hot water flush turned into a sales pitch for a new hot water heater. The tech estimated it was 8 years old (true) and time for replacement at an exorbitant cost. I thought I had a 12 year warranty on my heater and after he left confirmed it. One indication was a '12' in the model number which he surely knew meant it had a 12 year warranty as most hot water heaters have '06', '09', or '12' in their model numbers for the number of years they warranty. The clogged drain was for a clothes washer. The washer would drain fine on a small load but would back up on a large load. He ran his power snake but the problem still remained. I do not have an issue with being charged for running the snake, but he then recommended a power hydroscrub which scours the inside of the drain pipe. The recommendation was the right thing to do however his price was double that of another plumber who I subsequently used to clear the drain. Finally I did join the 'club' because the 'club price' on the work I had done was less than the annual fee. Is the club a service or an opportunity to sell more work? Since I am in the club I may use Nahman again - but I will be very careful to check prices.

Really fantastic work. I have used them in the past for small jobs and found them easy to work with and very professional. This gave me confidence to bring them in to estimate replacing the old terracotta pipes on our 1926 Berkeley house. They were prompt at returning my calling and schedule the job manager to come out. He was comprehensive in reviewing the work that needed to be done, and I had an estimate by the end of the day. (AND, it was MUCH less than another company's bid.) The crew was scheduled to come out within a week. The crew was amazing. They clearly know what they are doing and are very confident with this type of job. They excavated and removed small portions of concrete on one afternoon and returned the next morning for the day-long process of the trenchless replacement. I was impressed with how quickly they work and their attention to detail. They showed me the work, before filling the holes, and I must say, it's going to last sometime. The connections were solid, clean & reinforced with extra bands. They asked me to run all of the plumbing in the house to check for leaks, and confirmed that the job was right. They then quickly filled the holes and poured new concrete. They replaced old, old clean-outs with new access and covers. The concrete work looks great and is a fine match to the older concrete. They cleared ALL of the debris. Someone from the crew came the next day to finish detail work and clean up; a job supervisor can to inspect. It's been a week, and all seems fine. I'd hire them again for other work and will soon have them out to do a seasonal check on my heater.

They did absolutely nothing amazing right! We had a guy come out to the house last friday for an estimate and where told we would have the proposal by Monday on Monday we where told we would have the proposal on Tuesday, On Tuesday we told sorry not to day tomorrow it will be Wednesday its now Friday and still no proposal. They did send us a proposal for someone else's job but still nothing to us. I called the manager and he said he was sorry but he would get the proposal to us...... We are now a week delayed on the job due to this company. Between their call center, answering service and lack of professional business standards I would suggest you try a different company. I will never work with them again.

Everything seem ok at first, but the water heater did not work properly after the service. Technician has returned to check out the problem and said that their parts guy dropped the ball and was supposed to order this distribution pipe that goes inside of the water heater at the water inlet. The original was corroded along with the rest of the fittings on top of the water heater. They never returned to replace that part, but today 9/26, they returned and apologized and said that they would make sure the part was ordered and would return to install it. Since the service my water heater does deliver enough hot water to fill the bath tub. Hopefully they will get the part and install it and it will take care of the problem. I will update this review once I hear back from them regarding the part.

It went very well. They did a very good job. In fact, they are quoting us for some additional work in my house. It was fine. They did an excellent job. I would grade them straight A's down the line.

Sal worked hard to diagnose and solve the problem and made recommendations to help prevent future issues. He was very knowledgeable and articulate. He was diligent in immediately cleaning up the work area. Very professional.

This big deal did not cover the issue that we were having. I received a refund.

It was fast and efficient. Would hire again.

The plumber came on time, was extremely courteous, and got the job done quickly. Cleaned up impeccably afterwards. 100% satisfied.

I have an old solar water heating unit that has a drip. I am considering replacing it with a tankless. Albert Nahman Plubming does not work on this type of water heating unit, and only offered to take it down and replace it. Since this may not be the best solution for me, I had to find another provider. Getting some guidance would have been helpful, rather than just offering to remove it.

Technician arrived on time, rapidly identified the problem, shut off water to the house, fixed the problems (I'm not sure how), turned the water back on, drained the air out of the lines, then left.

The work was excellent but seemed to be on the higher end price wise.? We had to replace the water heater quickly so did not shop around and went with a company that had a good reputation.

Good job, very quick and no problems

Albert Nahman is an outstanding company and prides itself on that and can command the price they request. Their plumber who reported to work did so promptly and was quite professional. I had three separate plumbing needs - the estimate was $1,000.00. I was upset that I had all three problems at once. (This in itself is not their problem . . . ) Perhaps if the plumber could have broke down my needs and suggested one problem could have been solved with that trip charge, I could have had that one "done" under the purchase price of "The Big Deal!" Oh hindsight is the best teacher. Well still looking out for a reasonable deal. I just had sticker shock. They are well worth the money I am sure. Continued success for all.

The guy was there within an hour, and the work was done well. The price was reasonable and there was also a coupon that I was able to use for 10% off. He arrived around 6pm on a Saturday, which I was not expecting for the price paid.

Great experience from start to finish. Replaced a leaking water heater in an older home with all of the challenges of old rusty piping and difficult access. All employees including the estimator, office staff, and the installers were engaging, courteous, professional, and very patient with questions.

They used the paper booties inside the house. The gave me Angie's 20$ coupon after I mentioned it. They deducted it from their $40 house call. The toilets work good and I'm glad they did the work. I would use them again. I feel they are pricy but worth it.

Marlon, the service technician, was very thorough and very professional. I had an initial service call to do the leak detection, followed by another to do the work. On both occasions I was given a range of time (2-4) but he showed up exactly on time. Who does that anymore.

They installed the toilet and made sure that it works. They were a little expensive but the toilet was of high quality and it was Japanese made. What stood out to me about the service that they provided to us was their professionalism as well as their customer response. We would absolutely use them again in the future if necessary.

Stanley arrived and was very professional. He explained everything that he was doing and all of the steps along the way. Really nice person and very competent. When one solution did not fix the problem he moved to the next solution. Ultimately the leak was resolved and the issue fixed. We purchased the diamond club membership because of the great discount that we would receive that day. Stanley arrived right on schedule, which was awesome as we had another contractor coming into the house when he left. The price, while a bit more than some others we have tried - is well worth it because of the quality of service and the warranty on their work. Well worth the extra dollars. I would HIGHLY recommend this plumber!

I had a number of plumbing needs stacked up and I was able to use the deal to cover those. They were efficient and did a great job.
