Description of Work: One of the things I value in hiring a company is fairness, which is why I subscribe to Angie's list. I have what seems to be a main sewer line blockage. Their quote to do an emergency (working on a Sunday) clean-out was $350-420. That seems unreasonably high to me since another highly rated plumber on Angie's list quoted $220. This plumber has gotten a lot of positive reviews here, and I hope my experience is an anomaly, but I thought it also important to report on this as incident to illustrate that it pays to shop around. I will say, he did promptly return my call.

Description of Work: Our home was built in 1936. It has been well maintained, but much of the orginal plumbing is still in place. We had a dripping shower head. I called 3 plumbers recommended by Angie's list. 2 of them were not shy about telling me about the problems that can occur when you open up older plumbing. One of them turned the occasion into a pitch to repipe the house. Another was quite sure that parts are no longer available for my plumbing fixtures and wanted to replace the fixtures. He refused to work on the shower that day saying that he didn't have the time to get the necessary parts from the supply house. Andy came. I told him what the problem was. Within a few minutes, he replaced the washers. The problem was fixed. The cost was $120 and I am more than pleased with his attitude and his work --- and needless to say, I will call him again the next time I need a plumber.

Description of Work: Andy was very friendly and extremely professional. He located the problem (clogged shower drain) and did not charge an unreasonable amount. He left the space as clean as it was to begin with - I would definitely recommend.

Description of Work: I have used Castillo pluming several times. Ansy was punctual, thorough, and completed the jobs efficiently. He has performed drain cleaning at my home several times, and installed a toilet that had a stuck floor seal that required some ingenuity. I called very late in the evening a couple of times expecting to leave a message on the answering machine. To my surprise, he answered the phone and scheduled the work for the next day. Andy and his crew are always courteous, and I appreciate that they clean up thoroughly after a project is complete.

Description of Work: With such good reviews in Angie's list I would have welcomed a call to my email re the job needed (smallish) ---install kitchen sink (wall) faucet and drain water heater. Old house . No cut off valve under sink-so would have to turn off water to whole house. 2-3 days later left voice mail appologizing for returning call late and would call on Monday. It is Wednesday and still no call. sigh. Maybe the job is too little. I called Los Angeles Master Plumbers and almost the mirror image of the above. gave them my tel number to call to set up visit but has never called. I guess I will check another Plumber out. Description of Work: The toilet flapper had come loose in a very hard to access area of our bathroom. I was pleased that Andy came by promptly and managed the replacement without taking the toilet off its mounting.

Today, he came out at my requestbecause I was concerned I had a plumbing leak under the house. Based upon what I described over the phone to him, he thoughtit was unlikely, but I asked if he could still come out for my own peace of mind. It turns out he was right, I had no leak and he took the time to inservice me on how I could detect if I really had one. He charged me nothing for his time and knowledge. Andy is a truegentleman and a credit to his profession

Description of Work: Had a drainage problem with a half bath and full bath. Andy came out promptly, diagnosed the problem, cleared the blockage - about 120 feet away in the drain line. He came back the next day to fit a new cap over the access pipe, Quick and professional. I've used him before and had the same experience. Good value and prompt service.

Description of Work: Many plumbers came and looked at my leak, from 2nd floor bath tube to first floor ceiling. Even AHS (American Home Shield) send people to looked at and told me that it was a seal problem, not piping leaking problem. I sealed and still leaked, no one ever take a look at the maintenance door behind the bathroom room in my son's closet. Andy from Castillo Plumbing took a look at the maintenance door and told me where it was leaking and fixed the problem the next day. Call Andy if you ever wants to get it fixed. Good job and clean too.

Description of Work: I called Castillo Plumbing largely based on the many positive reviews they have here on Angies List, and left a message for an estimate for work on several issues. Andy returned my call that evening and set an appointment for the following morning to review the issues. He arrived not long after the set time and thoroughly reviewed everything, including a quick look under the house. This was Thursday, and Andy said he would have a proposal to me by Saturday evening. By Sunday I had still not heard from him and left a message. He called back and apologized, promising a proposal by Monday evening. It has been a week and I have not received a proposal or a phone call. I would rather he had just told me he didnt want the job and not waste my time.

Description of Work: We originally called Andy for a leaking toilet, a water heater flushing, a leaking water pipe and a concern about the smell of gas outside. He was prompt, courteous and upfront and reasonably priced. He fixed the leak but we decided to get a new toilet since it was 30 years old. We scheduled another appointment to replace the toilet. He also took a look at the pipes in the front and could see there was an issue with the pipes. When he returned to replace the toilet a few days later he also worked on the pipes in the front. Unfortunately the gas pipe had major leaking (corrosion due to age). We then scheduled an appointment for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend and again he was prompt, courteous, and clean. A trench had to be dug in the lawn (gas meter at curb) and after they were done it looked great. He also installed cutoff valves next to the house for the water and gas. We still need some other things done and will definitely call Andy again.

Description of Work: Mr. Castillo himself (Andy) responded to my first-time call to him promptly. He arrived on time for our scheduled appointment. His work cleaning out a clogged kitchen drain was done quickly, cleanly, and efficiently. And for a fair price. He also provided an estimate for work that we need done in the bathroom that seems very reasonable. Friendly, honest service from an owner-operator that likes dogs!

Description of Work: The owner initially came out when he said he would. But I had to call him after several weeks of no calls or follow up to say if he was not interested to just say so (he was to have contacted the person that does tile showers). Finally the tile person showed up to inspect to be able to give me an estimate (I had told him and Mr. Castillo that first we needed to determine what the plumbing problem was to begin with. It has now been at least another four weeks and I have yet to hear from either one. I do not recall if Mr. Castillo came out the second time. This is the second plumbing company recommended by you that has failed to determine what the problem is and fix my problem. To add insult to injury I understand from Pay Pal on 11/04 that you have taken from them the membership fee for another year. I have not done any better through Angie's List than if I just picked up a phone book or looked online. The first plumber was SOS Plumbing and they sent three (3) different plumber and I spent several hundred dollars but they also did not resolve my problem of water in a closet adjacent to a shower. Please have someone call me. I need to arrange to cut my losses. Going through you for needed services has been a waste of time and money. By the way, both Mr. Castillo and the Tile installer were both extremely courteous and that's commendable but what I really need is a plumber that can fix my leak problem.

Description of Work: Andy Castillo did an excellent job replacing our kitchen faucet. We recommend him highly and will use him again when we have need for a plumber. We just joined Angie's list because we constantly meed work done on our 1927 built home and have had mixed results in finding good local professionals through other referral sources. Our long time plumber recently retired and we needed our sink faucet replaced or repaired. Andy Castillo, the owner of Castillo plumbing in Alhambra, Ca, had received glowing recommendations on Angie's list and he was only 4 miles away. We always prefer to support local small businesses when we can, so we called Mr. Castillo, based on his high reviews on Angie's List. We called Andy on 9/14 at 1:45P and left a message. He called back two hours later and we made an appointment for him to come to the house the next day, 9/15/11, between 10AM and Noon. Andy arrived at the house, as promised, at 11AM. He assessed the existing sink faucet for possible repair. It was a high end (expensive, costing over $400 nine years ago) KWC brand, made in Switzerland. The KWC faucet had corroded, and was difficult to turn on and off and/or move from side to side. The screw for the top assembly had corroded to the point it could not be remove without drilling it out. We had purchased a new MOEN faucet ($124 at Home Depot) as a replacement, in case the KWC could not be repaired. We asked Andy his professional assessment of wether the KWC was worth repairing or did he recommend replacing it, and wether the new Moen was adequate as a replacement or if he recommended a different brand or model. Andy said he could repair the KWC if we wished but he recommended we just switch it out for the Moen we had purchased, and pointed out that the new Moen faucet came with a lifetime guarantee for a free replacement if it ever stopped working properly. It took Andy about an hour and a half to switch out the faucets. He emptied all of the stuff from cabinet under the sink and made sure that everything else connected under the sink, dishwasher, water filter system was working properly. He was very neat in his work and made sure that everything under the sink was dry before he replaced all the stuff that we had stuffed under there. His fee of $165, including the 10% Angie's List discount, seemed very fair and reasonable compared to other plumbing work we have had done recently. It was a pleasure to find someone who takes pride in his work. Based on this experience, we will certainly call Andy Castillo again and recommend him to others. Needless to say, our first experience using Angie's list was a great success and we are pleased we joined.

Description of Work: I found this company on Angies list for my aunt. She is 82 and needed work done on her toilet. She had called a handy man on her own and he couldn't fix it. This company came right out and had it fixed in no time. She is very happy. So happy that she will probably have them do her copper re-piping when she is ready.

Description of Work: Replaced "frozen" stems for bathroom sinks and general checkup of other bathroom fixtures (some elderly). He is newly establishing himself after working for other plumbing businesses did a great job. He is a very pleasant person to deal with and competent with problems with older (as well as newer) fixtures. I appreciated the excellent job he did. (He also returned to square up the faucet handles which were a little off-center. Very thoughtful.)

Description of Work: Andy did a great job for a very reasonable price. I had a leaky kitchen faucet that needed repair. My husband called Andy on Monday and we were able to schedule an appointment Thursday morning. He had shoe covers readily available. After a quick look at the faucet, he identified the problem and suggested that the best thing would be to get a replacement. Luckily I had already purchased a new one - just in case. He was able to put in the new faucet and clean up in under 1 hour. 1. Before we had any problems with the faucet, we already had 2 plumbers in the past tell us that the faucet would be difficult to replace because the current faucet had an odd installation and they did not want to "open a can of worms" to replace the faucet with a newer design. Andy saw the same problem but was willing to try to fit in the new faucet despite the installation hurdles. 2. A previous plumber for a different issue had told us that it would be $100 just to come look at the problem. Andy did not have a minimum price quote for an appointment. 3. The appointment time was initially 8 to 9am but we called the day before and asked if it could be around 9:15am. He arrived around 10am due to another job. He apologized for running a little late but he was still within a one-hour window.
