We've been using them for over 20 years! They do great work. Most of the time if I call in the morning they can make it out that same day! They are very prompt and reliable.
Description of Work: There was a leak under the kitchen sink. They installed a new garbage disposal as our old one had a hole in it. Price included parts and labor.

After a water main repair, one of my toilets started running. I have a Sterling low-water toilet that is very different from the usual kind, so I was afraid it would present unusual "challenges." Ray arrived promptly and was very familiar with this kind of toilet. He pinpointed the problem in a few minutes (grit stuck in the fill valve because of the water main problem) and flushed it out. Problem solved. Since he fixed the toilet so quickly, I had him look at a few other minor problems that I'd been living with for months. Both were fixed in a minimal amount of time. Ray was personable and courteous and obviously competent. I would definitely call Pioneer Plumbing again.

The installation was difficult, because of the weight of the water heater, the limited space, and the height it had to be lifted. But they did an outstanding job. Their price was lower than another quote I got, too. I would definitely use them again and recommend them to others.

This was - without any doubt - the best experience I have had with home service. They arrived within two hours of my call. They were efficient, friendly, and professional. I would recommend them to anyone who needs a plumber. I will certainly call them next time I need work done.

They are great. The first time I paid $200 and then later I paid $500 because I used them for more work. The first time was to check the gas leak and the second time is to connect the water line for the fridge because there was a valve that is broken. They fixed it and also then they also fixed the drywall around it. They are polite and they are doing a good job. Their price is not low, it's kind of pricy for me.

I was really impressed with this company. On a Saturday afternoon we discovered water coming up through the ground. My husband after much digging found that the main water line to our house had a leak in it. I quickly searched through Angie's List and found what appeared to be a highly rated company. I called and spoke with the office manager. He was very nice, informed me of the initial costs, and said he would send out a guy promptly to my house. About 90 minutes later the plumber arrived (Note: I live 45 minutes away from their office). Despite it being a weekend the plumber that was dispatched was very professional and knew his stuff. He worked efficiently to fix the leak for us. He even offered to help us fill in the large whole in the ground after. We declined but it was a nice offer. Despite this happening on a Saturday and paying overtime rates we only were out of pocket for a little over $300. We had expected much worse. I will be using this company again in the future. Very good customer service which is sometimes hard to find in Tucson!

I called early in the week and got an appointment for Thursday at 7:00 am. The plumber called Thursday at 7:00 to say he had truck problems and couldn't be there until about 8:00, would that be ok? No, I had to work. He said he could come Friday at 7:00 so we rescheduled. Then he called right back to say he could come at 6:30 so we made it for then. He arrived right at 6:30. He checked the disposal. It was making a metal on metal noise. Turns out it needed to be replaced. They carry them on the truck so he didn't have to make two trips. $108.00 for the disposal. They have a one hour minimum, which was $98.00. They have a trip charge of $29.75. I used a 10% off coupon off of Angie's List website. The total was $234.74. Ron was very nice. We talked a little while he worked. He cleaned up everything afterward. He was done just after 7:00 and I made it to work on time. I gave them a B for price due to the trip charge, which might be a standard thing now, and a B for punctuality because he couldn't make it to my original appointment. But, he did call in a timely manner to notify me of the problem and rescheduled me for the next day.

It was tough. I stupidly tried to chew up two very old black bananas with stems all at once in the disposal. Dumb! We live in a park model and it clogged up the drain like glue. In using the snake, it went through the clog without relief. Ray, the plumber, figured out what was happening and through persistence, at a hundred dollars and hour, overcame the problem. In an hour and a half and a lot of hard work and snaking, Ray got the job done. It was well worth it and I learned to not put bananas, whole bananas, no matter how old or rotten, in the disposal.

We'd had one or two small leaks in the basement and knew the end-of-life was coming for all our 76 year-old galvanized plumbing. We wanted to get it replaced before we sprang major leaks or leaks inside the walls. Danny came out and looked at the house and we went over the plumbing as best he could without opening up walls. I could tell him what had been replaced or remodeled over the 20 years we'd owned the house. He was very thorough, professional, and pleasant to deal with. He provided an estimate within the next couple days. We delayed the job because of travel, but they were able to schedule the whole job to our convenience, exactly when we wanted. We had the option of taking their bid or going with time and materials. We decided to go with time and materials. I'm so glad we did. It meant we could specify things as we went along, such as a new, temperature adjusting shower faucet and a new reverse osmosis faucet that matched the kitchen faucet better. We made changes and didn't have to dispute what was covered by the bid and what was not. They finished the job in 4 days. New pipe throughout, a combination of copper and PEX. They were pleasant to have around, always polite and left a clean job site. They only had to cut a hole in one wall and were "inventive" about getting the new pipes in with the least disturbance to the house. Carlos was a joy to have in our home - he was the head plumber and was here every day. They were very careful to try to give us running water as much as they could during the day and we had water every night when they left for the day. And they came in UNDER the original estimate. We're absolutely delighted and have a new go-to plumber!

They were not familiar with my gas fireplace insert (heatilator) and couldn't get it to work but charged me anyway. I found an on-line manual but it didn't have the information they needed. After I wrote a negative review the owner (Jim) called me up and told me they would come evaluate the gas fireplace again, free of charge. They spent an hour and determined that it was the controller circuit board. This was something they didn't have to do and update this review to a B from a D.

They set a service date for a couple of days later and were right on time. Cassius was the tech that came and he also cleaned out the drain and the aerator in the sink. Very friendly and fast. I am looking to replace another HW heater in our house in the near future and will probably look to them for a quote and/or service.Thank you!

Because I had to have the water line to the whole house shut-off, it was important to have a quick response to this issue. I called Pioneer Plumbing early afternoon and they had a plumber out to my house within 1-1/2 hours. He was very polite, professional, and performed quality work in a timely manner.
Description of Work: While attempting to disassemble the shower faucet, I inadvertently broke the copper supply lines behind the faucet leading to the mixing valve in the wall. Due to a planned bathroom remodel, I did not have him repair/replace the lines and faucet. I just had him cap off both copper lines.

We called late afternoon on a Monday and explained to Pioneer how our daughter, age 6 is undergoing treatment for cancer and that we cannot be without water for too long as it needed to be shut off at the main until repairs could be completed. Pioneer sent out Carlos and Eddie within a few hours who repaired the leak and referred us to a very good restoration company (TNT) to mitigate the wet wood and drywall. Pioneer was prompt, accomodating, professional and sincere...but that is just where the story begins... Carlos and Eddie, moved by our family situation and our duaghter's fight with Ewing's Sarcoma, a type of bone cancer went back to Pioneer managment and said, "we have to do something for these people...They have bigger things to worry about" and we do. We really do. At the root cause of the quarterly plumbing fixes and subsequent repairs that often costs thousands was the poly-pipe, a sub-par building material that was used around the time my house was built and is in use no longer. In addition to the constant anxiety and horror that goes along with a child who is seriously ill was the constant anxiety of another water leak in this house. I literally prayed for some relief from these issues at least until we could get my daughter cured and God sent Pioneer Plumbing. Pioneer checked the influent water pressure and found it to be twice what it should be which probably accelerated our plumbing problems so the following Monday and a regulator valve was installed - again professional service, on time - very well done. The fact that they even mentioned this set Pioneer apart. This was the first time any plumber bothered to check the pressure coming into the house. This repair would have normally been around $300, if memory serves plus or minus $50.00 but it gets better, much... Later that week, I got a call from one of the foreman at Pioneer, Dan saying that he and Jim, the GM wanted to come out and take a look at the house - that they had a meeting with the owner, Mike and Pioneer wanted to help us out. They wanted to fix the root cause of the leak issues. They wanted replace my poly-pipe with a quality product that does not have the leak issues and they wanted to do so for FREE because "we have bigger things to worry about." This job could have easily cost $7,000 dollars or more!!! That Saturday, nine amazing hard-working, compassonate men, lead by owner Mike showed up in my driveway at 8 am and had my entire house replumbed by 4:00. Mike even replaced my hot water heater as well!!! They did not charge me a penny for any of these repairs! MIke believes that we are all in this world together and helping each other during times of need is what it's all about. Everyone at Pioneer is really, really good. I honestly would have wrote an "A" review before all of this but there are no ratings, no words to convey the gratitude we feel. This is a special company...really overwhelmed and so, so greatful.
Description of Work: Our experience with Pioneer began with pipe breaking in our daughter's room. We had polybutelene piping and have had a series of leaks. Four to be exact in the past year. We have used several plumbers that our home warranty sent out and the service from those was fair to below average. We called Pioneer Plumbing based on Angie's List reviews.

Great, two gentlemen showed up on time and found the problem quickly. They set me up with an estimator who quoted me several options. all of the quotes were reasonably priced for the work they were going to perform, but I could not afford it, soI performed the work myself with some additional help. Everyone was courteous and professional, and with the Angie's List discount, they were definitely worth the price. They definitely try to work with you if a repair ends up being bigger than you anticipated, which happens often in renos/updates. Thanks!

We received an estimate which was reasonable from Pioneer plumbing so scheduled a date for service. We have had problems with toilets and sink backing up. Pioneer snaked and photoed our sewer line and found some roots plus a low spot near our clean-outs. We had the original clay line from when the house was built around 1950 so it was time to replace. They saw cut our concrete slab ( about 24ft.) on the side of our house to replace the line. Replaced clay line with ABS line plus added an additional clean out . They worked at it for about 9 hours . The two men were extremely knowledgable and professional and cleaned up afterwards. Finished the job in one day instead of two. They also fixed a leaky toilet in the house. We were extremely happy with Pioneer Plumbing and would definitely use them again. By the way we also had an estimate from another firm who was $1000..00 MORE than Pioneer.

My gas water heater sprung a leak on February, 25 2012. I was tempted to have Lowes or Home Depot do the replacement, but I decided to look on Angie's List for a highly rated provider. I figured it would probably cost more, but I wanted it done right. 1) Morning -- Monday, Feb 27, 2012: Called Pioneer Plumbing and they said they could come the same day with a replacement. I made a point to tell the phone rep that I had a hot water recirculator pump with a dedicated return (I wanted them to know in advance in case that would complicate the install, require extra parts, etc). The plumber arrived as scheduled. During the install, he had me help him lift the old tank out and the new one in (kind of unprofessional, but whatever). He also insisted on changing the way the recirculator pump was plumbed: instead of the return connecting to the tank's drain valve (as it was previously), he plumbed it directly to the cold water input supply. He replaced just about all of the existing connections (which is fine, the theme here was to do it right), but didn't have a check-valve with him and reused the existing one (so much for telling them in advance about the recirc-pump). $800 and job done, right? 2) Evening - Monday, Feb 27, 2012: During the course of that evening, I realized the hot water temp was fluctuating by over 20 degrees -- based on when the recirc pump was on or off. The check-valve was obviously stuck -- and since it was now plumbed directly to the cold water input supply -- that cold water was directly mixing with the hot on its way to the fixtures. This kind of temperature swing makes me nervous since we have a small toddler and don't want hot water temp games going on. 3) Morning - Tuesday, Feb 28, 2012: I called Pioneer and asked for someone to come out. Same plumber returned and agreed the check valve was stuck. I expressed my concerns about the new recirc pump configuration (directly to the cold input) -- which made the check valve operation critical. I even showed them the pump manufacturer's documentation -- which shows it plumbed to the tank's drain valve. In that configuration, even if the check-valve fails, there's no cold water in the equation - eliminating any possibility of large temp swings. They insisted again that this is how "they always do it" and "it's better" for whatever reasons. I reluctantly conceded. They eventually replaced the check valve after having to go drive somewhere to get one. (What are these guys carrying in these trucks? -- apparently not plumbing supplies). Job done, right? 4) Evening - Tuesday, Feb 28, 2012: At 9pm at night, we discovered a massive water leak directly above the water heater. Water was pouring out of the connection between the check valve and recirc pump -- exactly where the plumber had worked earlier that day. Our garage was an utter mess (walls/boxes/storage-items soaked, etc). We put in an emergency call to Pioneer, some guy showed up and stopped the leak. Job done, right? 5) Morning - July, 5 2012: Four months later, the temperature started swinging again by over 20 degrees. Called Pioneer Plumbing again. At this point, I'm disgusted with the check valve, disgusted with the water heater and disgusted with Pioneer Plumbing. They showed up, decided the check-valve was stuck again -- started talking about maybe putting a spring-loaded valve or something in there -- I DEMANDED that the recirc pump be returned to it's original configuration. That cost me another $363.41 -- and now I seemingly have a working water heater. I am not a water heater or plumbing expert, but it seems to me that 4 visits (plus a large water leak) to get a simple water heater installed and working properly is way too much. Perhaps if they just would have brought a spring-loaded check valve with them the first time, none of this would have happened? Or if they just would have stuck with the original pump (manufacturer recommended) plumbing configuration? In any case, the final outcome is a very unsatisfactory experience. To their credit, Pioneer did a couple of positive things during the course of this saga: 1) Several days after the initial install/leak drama, they retroactively allowed me to use a 10%-off Angie's List coupon which I forget to present on the day of service. This reduced the initial install cost from $873.52 to $786.17. 2) I don't believe they ever charged me for the Feb 28th visit to replace the check valve (originally presented me a bill for $104.01). Although, I consider this something that should have been done on the day of the original install. 3) We came to an agreement that they would work at a reduced labor rate to repair the drywall damage from the Feb 28th leak. I ended up paying them $267 for that work. But this also came with some additional annoyances: There was a lot of debate between us about responsibility for the water damage from the Feb 28th leak. They were trying to claim that it was *all* attributable to the old water heater's leak (from Feb 25). This was nonsense because that was a *tiny* leak in comparison to the one they caused. They also tried to play the "we don't know who touched that" card -- insinuating that someone messed with things after they left on the morning of Feb 28. This really irked me -- as it's effectively calling me a liar. If they play that card, how do they ever guarantee any of their work?

Response from Pioneer Plumbing Heating & Cooling Inc
We are truly disappointed [member name removed] had a negative experience with Pioneer Plumbing, If we would have known this 14 months ago, we would have certainly attempted to work on a satisfactory agreement. We do our best to make each experience with Pioneer a positive one. In this situation, we did have an issue with a check valve failing. We always try to purchase American-made material when possible; but, it has become more and more difficult to find American made plumbing material. These are some of the issue we experience with the imports. As far as the water leak…. we did not accuse [member name removed] of lying but we did question the size of the water leak as shown in his video and the possibility of such a large leak repairing itself by the time we arrived. It appeared that there was an attempt to repair the check valve by someone other than Pioneer Plumbing. We felt we provided a fair service by repairing all of his drywall and baseboard that had been damaged by his previous water heater at our cost (no mark up applied); and, we agreed to repair the drywall and baseboard that he felt we damaged at no cost to him. The reason we relocated the recirculation return line is due to the hard water we have in Tucson and the surrounding areas. When a water heater heats hard water, it essentially boils the scale from the water and allows it to accumulate at the bottom of the tank. Over time the scale will accumulate above the water heater drain. If the recirculating line returns back into the drain of the water heater and the drain is obstructed by the scale, the pump will prematurely fail due to overheating while attempting to push the water through the obstructed drain. Therefore, we recommend returning the recirculation line to the top of the water heater. [member name removed] was also concerned about the fluctuation in the hot water and the possibility of scalding. It is important to know that there is a difference in immediate temperature when the pump is on versus the pump being off. It is also important to know that we always check the factory set temperature, confirming that it is set below scalding temperatures. Pioneer Plumbing appreciates the opportunity to work for [member name removed] and we apologize for the inconvenience the failed check valve caused. We will always stand behind our work and uphold our warranty. Sincerely, Jim Foster General Manager Pioneer Plumbing, Inc.

They didn't right parts when they first came out, but they still charged me 112.00 just for coming out that day and tacked that on to the overall price. I couldn't believe much it how much it cost to fix a tiny leak. I really feel like they took advantage of me. The second time they came, out a younger guy was with them. I don't really think he was a plumber.
Description of Work: They fixed a leak from an outside faucet.

Response from Pioneer Plumbing Heating & Cooling Inc
[member name removed], I apologize, I called and left a message on your voice mail explaining that we had no idea the Message Center existed until the other day. Therefore we did not respond to any of the messages. I am upset with Angie's List for activating this feature and not informing the contractors. I'm not sure what happend to the email but if it was sent to [email protected] I should have received it. Again, I apologize for the misunderstanding. I like their punctuality and good service. They did what they said they were going to do, and gave the price that they were going to give.
