Note that this is a rather lengthy review, in an attempt to fully explain our ratings. I'll provide a short synopsis here: Steel Shield's security doors are beautiful, the owner is very committed to customer satisfaction and their installation was professional and on-time. Having said that, the company will not negotiate on price, is ineffective at communicating progress and their sales people are a bit unpolished and need to be reminded that "the customer is always right". We would almost certainly use Steel Shield again, but will keep these things in mind if we do so. Here are the details: We first visited a competitor of Steel Shield to look at Security doors. We liked what we saw and scheduled an in-home appointment, but also told them that we would be looking at doors from more than one provider before we made a final purchase decision. We examined Steel Shield's website, but decided to visit the show room to see the doors in-person, since we live a short drive away. The office / show room is in a somewhat hard to locate space in an industrial office park. We were first greeted by the office manager, then by the owner, Mike Maher. Mike spent about 45 minutes with us, describing the features of the doors and answering all our questions. We were clear with Mike that we wanted the doors installed in advance of Thanksgiving and Mike told us that the typical lead time for doors was three to four weeks. He went on to say that the doors would most likely be ready in two to three weeks, but that he didn't want to over-promise and under-deliver. Mike suggested we meet with Dave DeLucia, a sales representative, at our home to get measurements and pricing for the doors. We went home, looked at the website again and decided to visit the showroom a second time. We were again greeted by the office manager and then by a manufacturing manager, who showed us some of the finished doors waiting for installation. We were so pleased with our experience to that point that we cancelled our appointment with Steel Shield's competitor and awaited our in-home appointment. Dave DeLucia was very prompt - perhaps even a bit early - for our appointment. He helped us with techniques to pick colors for the door and screens and was very patient while we examined color chips and screen samples. Armed with our color choices, we went inside to write a contract. It was at this point that our experience trended a bit downward. We tried to bargain with Dave on the price of the doors - these are quite expensive - and he was reluctant to even call his boss for permission to deviate from the price he had quoted us. Having been in sales, I understand and appreciate that Steel Shield places value in their product and doesn't negotiate on price. It was, however, surprising that Dave was so reluctant to let us discuss that with Mike, instead telling us "he's gonna chew me out for even calling." Eventually, Dave did call Mike, and as promised, the price remained non-negotiable. Off the phone, my wife joked a bit with Dave over pricing, but Dave got defensive and mildly combative with my wife. Dave seemed to dismiss my wife's displeasure, as it seemed he assumed he was only selling to me. We almost canceled the contract as a result of Dave's somewhat cavalier attitude toward my wife. In addition to discussing price with Mike, Dave also discussed delivery dates, as we re-emphasized to Dave that we wanted the doors installed before Thanksgiving. Dave, like Mike, assured us that the doors would be installed in advance of Thanksgiving. In the end, this commitment was at the heart of any concerns we had. We signed a contract on October 9. With the commitments we received regarding installation, we anticipated an installation the first week of November. We received a call from Steel Shield about two to three weeks after the contract was signed. Instead of the expected discussion about scheduling our installation, we were told that the manufacturing of the doors had begun and we would hear from Steel Shield again in two or three weeks. We were surprised by the delay in manufacturing and started to wonder whether our doors would indeed be ready by Thanksgiving. An additional two to three weeks passed and we still hadn't heard from Steel Shield, so I called them. I inquired about the status of our doors and was told that they were almost ready to paint. I asked whether our doors would be installed before Thanksgiving and was told maybe. I reminded the office manager that both Mike and Dave had assured me that the doors would be installed before Thanksgiving and that I would be very upset if that wasn't the case. I called Dave with the same message. In rapid succession, I received a call from Mike reassuring me that our doors would be installed before Thanksgiving and from the office manager, scheduling our installation for Friday, November 22 - 4 business days before Thanksgiving and two to three weeks later than we expected. As the week of our installation approached, I did not receive a confirmation call regarding our installation, so called Steel Shield again; our appointment for installation was confirmed. As promised, Tim showed up to install the door early on Friday morning. Tim was punctual, polite, efficient and skilled. The installation was completed in about three hours and the doors were everything we had hoped. Tim cleaned up pretty well after himself, though left some metal shavings on the front porch sill that I had to clean up myself. Our doors were installed before Thanksgiving - barely - but are a welcome addition to our home.

We needed a security door and sun screens on our west facing windows. The sun screens were installed with no problems or hassles at all. When the security door was installed, the installer ruined the trim board when he was drilling the openings for the lock. Then he tried to caulk the 4" X 1/2 " gouge he made. Since this was right by the door handle, there was no way to fix it except to replace the trim board. We found out later that this installer quit because so many people were complaining about his work. It took about a month, but a new installer replaced and painted the trim board and we were quite satisfied. Everyone involved, except for the first installer, showed concern about the quality of workmanship and did what was necessary to make it right. This is the mark of a professional company. It's easy to act professional when the installers do good work, but when there are problems, we see the true colors of the people involved. I would recommend this company in a heartbeat.

They did an excellant job. The salesperson came to my house with everything I needed. I met the owners and the people that work there. I couldn't be more pleased.

My initial call for an estimate was returned the same day and the sales person came out the following day. He was prompt and professional and had an extensive set of sample gates and colors for me to review. The initial estimate for the re-powder coating was a 2 week turn around and the doors were ready on schedule. We were given a 5 week turn around on the gate but received it in about 4 weeks. The installer for the gate and front doors was on time and professional and everything looks great!

After I called I got a quick response and sales visit. The rep was personable and thorough. I just wish he would have guided me more on screen colors matching to the doors but they did change out the screen for me at no additional cost which I really appreciated The main reason I would give an A- if i could is because it took several weeks longer than I understood for delivery Had I known to expect that it would not have mattered but until I called I had heard nothing. They were willing to alter their design for me too. Their designer sent me some suggestions which i am very pleased with. The installer was pleasant and very helpful as well The company will also communicate by email if you want which I found very helpful most of the time. They had a computer glitch which led to their not getting a request from me which then lost some additional time but all worked out in the end. The door looks great. I am very pleased with it

Overall experience with them was excellent.

The HOA approved all the items being installed without alterations. Once approved, the process began. The window screens came first due to the manufacturing of these is much easier than the custom work. The installer of the screens easily solved the problem of the installation of the screen on the window with the wrough iron. Dennis made an two trips to our home to verify his measurements. The door and courtyard enclosure arrived in an acceptable period of time. The special touches, such as knuckles and quail came out exactly as Dennis desribed. I cannot say enough in regards to the installation. The installer was knowlegable made any and all adjustments needed to turn out a fantastic result. This is a new home and the neighbors driving and walking by made constant comments on such things as how long the installer was taking to perform his job. They were amazed that he wasn't rushing through the job, but was putting in some real craftmanship. One lady actually stopped and asked for a brochure. The follow-up was that Dennis called and asked us if we were completly pleased and if all is well. The answer is obviously yes. The only dos and don't is to not be aware that each item is on a seperate invoice and is required to be paid as completed. We had 3 invoices and paid for the screens seperate due to the timing. This is just a note and not an issue.How did it go overall? I would recommend them to my family and friends. That is the best overall rating I can give.

This is the second time I have worked with Steel Shield Security Doors. I have been very pleased with their work on both occasions. The work is done on time, at high quality, and attention is paid to small details. For instance, the installer takes the time to dab paint on the screens so that they are sealed and match in color with the rest of the door. I would happily recommend them to anyone looking for a high quality security screen door or gate.

Made an app't to have salesman come to my home to introduce product, take measurements etc. Arrived on-time. Explained product well; gave a firm estimate of cost. Told him I wanted to check competitors and would get back to him. Checked Lowe's and Home depot. Lowe's didn't have a comparably priced product. Home Depot's comparably priced product, their "Value line" was not at all comparable in quality. Ordered door from Steel Shield. Estimated time to manufacture product was 3 - 4 weeks. Product was ready for install at end of 4th week. Installer arrived on-time; was finished in 2 hours. Clean neat job. Price exactly same as original estimate. Door seems solid and secure. I hope it's never put to the test!

The job went very well. The installation went perfect. The door looks great. It wasn't an easy match due to the custom arch. The powder coat paint came out very nice. The screen is perfect.We now have an extra layer of exterior security and the screen is great for air movement and also a sun protection. The price equals their value. This is a 1st class company, well worth what we paid.

The experience went very well. The door was installed within the time period they said it would be. They installer did a greatr job. He cleaned up well after himself and the door looks super.

It went great. They installed a window guard on one of my windows. It has a safety button inside the house for escape in case of fire. I think the prices are pretty similar among the companies that do this. The salesman was pleasant and not pushy. It took about 2-3 weeks from the time he came to the house and I ordered the window guard until it was made and ready to install. The installer did a good job, was very pleasant, and did not leave a mess. It looks fine, inside and out. I am pleased with their work.

It went very good overall. The quality of the door is quite good.

From Salesman to Installer it was great. Nothing was hidden and there were no extra charges or snags in the process. Door looks and works great. Installer even showed up early and finished quickly. Door works better than I thought it would. Salesman was courteous and honest. Everyone I talked to with this company seemed to genuinely care about the integrity of their product and my satisfaction with it. It is almost entirely a local company with only materials being brought in. This is a great local company to invest your dollars in if looking for a security door. I would recommend them to anyone who needs a security door. This is an A+ company.

They were timely and came out quickly. Their price was very reasonable as well. Their product was very good and they had everything I wanted.

He was out here right away for the appointment. I had contacted two other companies, but their bids were higher. I was able to get the color to match and with a very nice pattern. The doors are attractive, they fit well, and they serve their purpose.
