Sterling Services

We moved back to Mesa after living away for 3 1/2 years. Having lived here for 22 years prior to that we know how important it is to have an air conditioner in top shape. We purchased a home and called Sterling Service to have them come out for the SRP $29.95 AC checkup in April. It checked out fine. Then I purchased a programmable thermostat and tried to install it. I ended up blowing a fuse in the furnace, but didn't realize that was the problem, so I called Sterling out to check it out. David Flores and his partner Dave (I didn't get his last name) came out and quickly realized I had blown the fuse. Once it was replaced the thermostat was operational. They asked if they could look at our system and I said fine. Even though the outside Bryant unit was replaced in 2012, they found oil underneath it and felt it very well may fail this summer. We decided to go ahead and replace it with a Carrier high SEER unit. On the morning of the installation the they showed up bright and early and got started. We thought they did a terrific job. We originally had to get on a ladder to change the filter monthly, and they put it so all we have to do is go out into the garage, pull a little lever, pull out the old one and replace it. It has been wonderful having an air conditioner that we know we can count on. I had purchased a four yearservice agreement prior to David and Dave coming out and they took that price off of the new AC price. I am very satisfied with the service we've received from Sterling. UPDATE: July 23, 2015 - Having recently retiring after many years in the business world I am very capable of knowing what a company with exceptional customer service and integrity is. Sterling Service is all of that. There was some confusion, primarily on my part, regarding the amount of the SRP rebate for replacement of our A/C unit. Joel, the owner of Sterling got back to me almost immediately when I questioned the amount I received. He did not hesitate to pay additional funds from Sterling to me to make it right and have a satisfied customer. I would not hesitate to recommend this company to anyone looking for a company with exemplary service.

Very thorough check. Was very honest about what maintenance is really required yearly. Didn't try to sell ongoing maintenance program.

Appointment was easy to make (was able to get on their schedule within the week I called). Chuck was the service tech that was dispatched. Chuck arrived when scheduled, was professional and very thorough on the inspection and explain the repair and cost estimate. He immediately repaired and serviced HVAC in a timely manner. Considering that today was going to be the record breaking temperature in Phoenix and Chuck was up in the attic, Chuck was pleasant, took care of the repairs/services needed. I will use this company again for future AC needs and request Chuck.

Excellent service!! More than on time. Quoted early evening appointment time. Called at 1:00 to let us know he could be there in 15 minutes. Courteous, friendly professional and honest. Found problem quickly and fixed, then checked other areas and made sure everything was in working order. Definitely will be using and recommending Sterling Services in the future!

Not that an AC tune up isn't important but it really is just an avenue for the provider to find things wrong. Being an Engineer and owning a few rental properties I know quite a bit about how heat pumps and AC systems work and costs associated. I recently joined Angie's List and like seeing offers from companies for service with the reinforcement of consumer reviews. I bought a tune up from Sterling Services. Now, I already knew the unit was going to need some freon, the line would get kinda cold, but not the tell-tale "beer cold" feel that indicates that the freon is compressing and expanding as efficiently as it can. It would keep the house at 78 but couldn't cool down to 72 in the heat of the afternoon. (not my gripe, this is from my tenants and I cant stop them from cooling that low). Having already known that it was low, when I got the call from Kevin at Sterling that the freon was low and he wouldn't know how low until he started filling it, I wasnt surprised and my only question is how much does Sterling charges for R22 Freon. For those of you that don't know, R22 freon gas is no longer produced in the US and in 202 it will be illegal to import/export it. Because of this, the price has risen but not as much as these HVAC companies would have you believe. He quoted me $150 for the first pound, and $75 every pound thereafter. I understand supply and demand but a quick search online for R22 shows it is available in 30lb containers for $300 or $10 per pound. And that's what google gave me; no telling how much cheaper the HVAC supply stores sell it for, cheaper I'd imagine. Now I understand there is a refrigeration license required to purchase it and the overhead of storing and maintaining and the insurance on the service trucks and what-not, but 1500% markup? I told Kevin I wasn't interested in his price and that I was dissapointed. He said there wasn't anything he could do. First company I called for a quote on refilling my R22 quoted me $80 per pound but there is an $89 service call. They said I could just buy their tune up for $89 and waive the service call and then get the refill for $50 per pound. I estimated I would need 2-3 pounds and Kevin had previously estimated as well. Even after paying the service call to the other company, it'll be cheaper than Sterling. So now I wasted $59 on a tune up from Sterling to get wham-boozled with their high price for services when they find something that needs fixed. Based on their reviews I am sure they are competent at HVAC, but when they find something, it's going to cost you.

I purchased the $59 complete A/C inspection coupon. I thought it would cover the complete home but I missed the fine print where it states that it only covers one unit. I have two units so I had to pay an additional $59 to inspect the second one. The technician was on time and professional. He spent considerable time looking at the outside compressors and then looking at the units in the attic. He had a checklist of items which appeared to be very thorough. He noticed that at least one of the units needed to be recharged. We agreed on a price and he added the chemicals during the same call.

Didn't really care for the service. Not even sure anything was done. A lot of pounding from the roof which has never happened. When it was finished he didn't tell me what he did. Just asked if I had questions. I do know there are a couple obvious problems with my unit, but he didn't point them out

Kevin arrived on time and provided a detailed and thorough assessment of our system. He enthusiastically explained the pros and cons of our system and any potential changes we might want to make. He discussed filter types and how often to change them. At the end, he offered their total care service plan but was not pushy.

Our main A/C unit went out on Sunday evening. I called Sterling at 7 am Monday morning and they were here by noon to repair the unit. They were friendly, professional, and very honest. I appreciate the technician quickly resolving the issue without trying to sell me things I did not need. I hired them based off reading other Angie's member reviews and would certainly use them again. It was great working with such an honest and helpful company.

My home is equipped with 2 A/C systems mounted on the roof - 2 story. My home warranty service was unable to perform in a timely manner after sending a company that did not have a ladder tall enough to reach the roof. One of my systems had stopped working entirely. Temperature in the Phoenix area was 105 degrees today. I called Sterling and they assured me that they would be able to respond today. Within an hour, their tech (Kevin) to let me know that he would be at my home in 1/2hr. to 45 minutes. He appeared in exactly 1/2hr. Kevin quickly diagnosed that the bearings were worn so the fan assembly had to be replaced. He clearly spelled out the cost ($377.97). He also quoted the cost for twice per year maintenance under their 1 or 2 year plan with discounts. I chose the 2yr. plan. A little over an hour later, all was complete. Kevin also inspected my second system and made sure that it was performing well and did not need further attention at this time. Both units including heating and plumbing are covered under the plan for $689.00. I had a previous quote from another company that was substantially more and included items that Kevin did not find. Isn't that interesting? So, the people at Sterling Services are professional, prompt, knowledgeable and above all fair. In this day and age that's hard to find. I highly recommend them.

I was very pleased with the service. The Technician (Chuck) arrived on time and he was very professional. He replaced my air filter and also put my drain pipe back on that was blown off by the last storm.

The company was great to do business with. They contacted us immediately after buying the Deal on Angie's List. They scheduled a time that was perfect. The tech was punctual, polite, and very competent. He worked quickly & addressed everything that was needed.

My disaster occurred on a Saturday, so that simply added stress to the situation. The dispatcher was polite and sensitive to my immediate needs. She dispatched the technician, JD, to my home within 1 hour. He showed up promptly, did a thorough inspection to determine the source of the leak and he immediately went to removing builder shelves and cutting a hole into the wall to access the leak. He made the necessary repairs, took pictures of the interior drywall damage and the source of the leak (a staple that was used to support the linen closet shelf had protruded into my hot water line of the master bath vanity), made the repairs and cleaned up the mess when he was finished. He was very friendly and did his job with a smile. I cannot thank this company enough for all of their help in a time of crisis! I highly recommend Sterling Services and will use them again for my future plumbing needs. JD, way to go gaining another loyal, satisfied customer!

The technician thoroughly checked both heating and cooling systems and answered our questions with regard to any adjustments needed and/or condition of the units. He also gave us a checklist of individual tests he performed for each unit. He was professional and knowledgeable. A good value for the money.

The service man checked everything out and told me the air conditioner was running okay. He did tell me there was a part that would need to be replaced in the future. It did not need to be done on the day of service. I was pleased with the service.

Chuck, not Charles, was on-time, was personable and professional\, and got my two systems tuned up in about an hour or so. Based on his performance I may have found a new HVAC company for all of my needs. UPDATE: While the service was good I just discovered a Sterling Services 'who you gonna call' sticker on my power box next to the outdoor units. I didn't ask for or authorize that and wouldn't have as I had their card and that's all I needed. The sticker is bright yellow and garrish, but to make things worse it doesn't peel off without leaving a mess. NOT COOL!!

I highly recommend them. I've used them several times in the last few years. I'm very pleased, they're really very professional and very good.
