Crew arrived in the morning as scheduled, team 1 started with the radiant barrier. We have a ranch style house with a low slope roof about 2200 sq feet. The crew needed to low crawl from one end to the other of the attic to apply the radiant barrier and then to add the blown in R30+. A few hours later team 2 arrived and began with the blown in insulation. Upon completion they cleaned up any debris, left the area neat and clean. House seems to be much cooler in the summer and stays warmer in the winter. We had a few bare spots where the heat would just radiate into the house, those are now gone. When comparing our year over year electric costs, there is a significant reduction for the hot summer months. 25% reduction for August, 30+% for September, and closer to 15-20% the rest of the time. The big concern with blown in insulation is blocking the vents, they did a good job of making sure the air flow was maintained in the non-conditioned space and everything looks great.

Overall the experience was great! I made the initial call to get an estimate, and left a message. My call was returned in a matter of hours. They were able to come out to provide an estimate within a couple days. They had appointments available within the week, but I had some electrical work to finish in my kitchen so I told Barrier I would contact them in a couple weeks. After a couple weeks, they contacted me, but I was still not finished with the electrical work. They were very understanding, and eager to complete the installation - he said they were getting a lot of business from the Angie's List deal. I called to set up the installation and scheduled the appointment for the following week. They showed up early for the appointment and completed the entire installation in less than 2 hours! The weather was starting to warm up and I noticed an immediate decrease in the time my a/c ran on high blower speed before it went into a slower speed. An unexpected but welcome side-effect was a noticeable noise insulation from attic noises (house is 55 years old). Great experience. No complaints. I absolutely recommend the company and the product, and will call on Barrier for any future projects I have.

In fairness, I bought this deal thinking that all insulation was equal. My contractor said that I should use "bat" (since that is what I have now) and not "blow in" and offered to contact the company to discuss how we could get some of that insulation. My contractor called yet Barrier did not want to be flexible and really did not want to talk to the contractor. It should have been a simple trade and ended up being a burden on me. Services were never performed or traded so I was out $400 bucks. My bad and I likely will not use Angie's deal's again because there seems to be no flexibility.

Unfortunately we could not do a trade in this manner because the cost of installing fiberglass batting insulation is substantially higher because of the intense labor involved to install one piece at a time verses blowing in fiberglass insulation. That was explained to the "contractor" who should have known that to begin with and was unwilling to make up the $200 difference. The big deal was almost at our cost to begin with!

Called and got a bid from Barrier Insulation. Negotiated a discount from original bid. The man made the appointment and arrived on time with a crew that knew what they were doing. The job took about 4 hours and I was charged the amount we agreed upon. Simple, fast and efficient. I'll wite back next year to let you know what impact the job had on my utility bills.

Owner called my husband late September. Gave Estimate over the phone which we thought we strange without seeing the house and measuring the sq ft. We wanted to wait until later in October or early November to have the work done. The owner called and made an appointment to come to the house and measure and go over all that they could and would offer to help with energy efficiency. The estimate and work was scheduled they arrived on time and we were especially pleased that they spoke fluent English. They were professional and cleaned up well. We are very happy with the work and would recommend to our friends. Thank you.

I'm giving this company a "D" rating due to the owner's lack of respectful customer service and response to a legitimate customer concern. There was an issue with the attic fan that was installed by Barrier, causing several windows of the house to vibrate and excessive noise, to the point that the neighbors could hear it. Mr. Cerasani refused to address this for weeks after install and several calls to him, saying that he would "put me on his schedule," but never calling back to schedule with me. He did send his employees to address and resolve this (finally) after several weeks.(The fan sits in my attic, disconnected). Mr. Cerasani graciously allowed me to pay his invoice in 3 installments. He is in fact very gracious until you want him to address a legitimate problem. Not all jobs go smoothly and issues can be expected. However, Mr. Cerasani became disrespectful and belligerant after I pressed him to resolve this. Member Update 12/19/2012 Mr. Cerasani states that there is a "hum" noted with these fans. I understand that. If the fan he had installed in my attic only "hummed," it would be acceptable. I tried for three (3) weeks of telephone calls twice a week at minumum to have him respond to me. He stated each time that he would "put me on his schedule and call me back." For 3 weeks he said this, over and over again. The fan was not HUMMING. As I told him, it was so loud that it disturbed my neighbors. One neighbor described the sound as a small aircraft taking off when it switched on. Mr. Cerasani refused to listen or to address the problem for the entire 3 weeks. Had I read earlier reviews from Angie's List members, I would not have hired his company. My Bad. What he's referring to in his response by saying "little old lady," I have no idea. I'm not. Unless he is attempting to be insulting. If I were a "little old lady," that would have no bearing on the poor service he provided. An HONEST review of my experience (which is what Angie's List asks for) is at a very minimum, poor customer service when there is an issue. And there was most certainly an issue. The fan was disconnected by his men and sits in my attic. That took me 3 weeks to accomplish and was not an appropriate outcome. I have since had an APS certified contractor address the issue. I still have a useless fan sitting in my attic which I paid for in good faith which will never be re-connected.

Response from Barrier Insulation Inc
WOW!! No good deed goes unpunished! We have put thousands of these fans in attics over the past 18 years we've been in business and we have never had a “vibration” issues with them. They will have a slight hum if it is completely silent in the home and they run during the daytime hours but they are an electric motor so the will make sound. As far as scheduling goes we do the best we can to respond as fast as possible to any and all issues that may arise and our record speaks for itself. The member was given several options to address this issue however it had to be at her conveyance which I understand but I also have a schedule to adhere to and she does live outside our general service area As far as the belligerence is concerned I would never disrespect a “sweet old lady” with a sailor's tongue so to speak (no disrespect to sailor's ) I feel we honestly tried to please the member. Unfortunately we cant please all the people all the time! But we will try anyways..... Thank you for taking the time to read my response to this matter. regards, Rick Cerasani owner\operator

Description of Work: I sorry that I did not write this sooner, but better late than never. My experience with Barrier Installation was a positive one. My house is approximately 27 years and need additional installation in my attic. I saw the ad on Angies List and decided this was a great price for what I needed, so I bought the deal. I had checked out some other companies and also at the home show. Someone from Barrier's Installation contacted me and set up an appointment to have the installation done. Barrier's workers came arrived at the appointment time and did the installation. They were polite, proffessional, and cleanup the work area before they left. I would definitely use them again if I needed installation work done. Jan Glendale, AZ

One technician operated the electric pump on the ground, which fed the metallic fluid up a hose into the attic. The second technician in the attic sprayed the fluid onto the attic ceiling- the indoors underside of the roof. There was an immediately perceivable difference in how warm the upstairs rooms felt. The ceilings were no longer warmer than the walls. It was a surprising difference- well worth the money.

We bought services from this company off Angie's List and purchased 1000 feet of R30 insulation. We were promptly called within a week of purchase to schedule having workers come out to our house. They were prompt and very knowledgeable and helped us decide which portions of our 2000 sq ft of attic to have more insulation added to. We ended up getting more than 1000 sqft done, but we had expected this. The workers were also professional and speedy. I would call them again.

I had purchased a coupon from Angie's list for a new attic fan, not knowing that I had an attic fan, but it wasn't worknig well. They repaired the fan and reset it to function at a lower temperature. They also showed me where my insulation was worn to a few inches in sections in my attic. I had them apply the coupon to the installation of new R-30 insulation throughout the whole attic. It took them hours to do, but they seemed to do a thorough job. The price seemed fair.

Great example of the old bait & switch type program. Called for infirmation on the Angies coupon; was told not to print as Rick would give the same price. Gave info on sq.ft. and quoted $1350 with a couple hundred too level the blown insulation. I had just had a energy audit from Airizona Power which send insulation was good but needed fill in two low spots. Workers came as said and did good work. After job was finished they measured the house and said it was much bigger and gargages were not counted in quote. ALSO sq.ft. has to be calculated according to "roof pitch" sq.ft.. Who ever heard of such a thing and was never mentioned prioe to now. This constituted another 14% bill increase. They also said blown insulatio was now over $1500 not a couple of hundred. Called Rick too discuss and he took off 3% roof pitch premium and had to settle for $3270. The poor workers seemed like they had to do this all the time and felt bad.

Absolutely NOT! Unfortunately some people do not understand simple math. A measured square does not lie! He was given a square foot price from the start, that price did not change. What changed was the sqft he told me and the actual sqft it is, that’s why we do a physical measurement on the structure so both parties are on the same page and yes there is something called "roof pitch" its on almost every home in the world, the area under your roof is more than the area of your ceiling. One product goes on the roof deck (underside of the roof) one product goes on the ceiling of the structure and if you add more sqft when we get there i.e. garages hole house instead of (two spots) well then the price will be more but it is based on the original sqft price I gave you. As far as my crew looking a little confused...the confusion was with the customer not understanding simple math.I even gave him another 3% off to help his confusion. I have been in business for over 18 years in the valley and have built my reputation on being upfront and telling it like it is from the start. Its unfortunate that once in awhile there is a lake of understanding and I am try, every day, to better communicate to those customers that need a little better understanding of the work we perform to so issues like this may be resolved before hand. Thank you for reading my response., Best regards, Rick PS please read all of my reviews on KUDZU.com

The installers of my radient barrier insulation were very professional, and from what I could tell (wasn't able to crawl the roof myself) were quality consisuous. I purchased a special deal for around $350 for 1000 ft of insulation. This did not provide complete coverage so some additional amount needed to be purchased. The "deal" said the regular price was $.65 per sqft, and the day before the owner also confirmed this. However, when they showed up the next day the price was $.75 per sqft. In summary, the work seemed top notch, but the price creep bothered me.
