$609
..I had a slow and chronic leak of coolant from my car. I assumed that I had a radiator leak. Jacks told me that I DID NOT have a radiator leak and I needed a new water pump. I believed them and they replaced it for $609. When I was driving it home I noticed that the air conditioner was no longer cooling the air. took it to another shop. They found that the belt to the AC  compressor was broken . Apparently the AC compressor belt requires a special tool to re-install which I suppose Jacks didn't have. Two other items were also noted. First the radiator mounting bolts were missing. Amazingly, I was shown an OBVIOUS radiator leak which I was told didn't exist and had not been repaired despite the fact that this was the reason I had sought Jacks help  in the first place. The icing on the cake was that the radiator mounting bolts which had been in place were MISSING.

"The came in for coolant leak from another shop and the only noticable leak was from the weep hole in waterpump we corrected the problem reinstalled ac belt and yes it does take a specialty tool that we have and all was well the radiator was not removed the install is done with radiator still in car so i can't speculate on where the hardeware ended up. We never heard back from customer so assumed all was well we always do whatever it takes to help a customer but we didnt know there was a problem so sorry about your experience please call if there is anything i can do to remedy."

My experience at Jack's Garage did not go very well. I dropped off my '95 Jeep Wrangler which admittedly was not running and had some problems. The previous shade tree mechanic had left a few things unassembled and jacks garage was the only place that assured me they would do it at low cost. I initially asked for an estimate when I dropped it off on 6/13/13. Jack told me that it would take awhile but that he would have someone form the shop work on it in their free time at a reduced labor cost. I called once evey few weeks and nothing seemed to happen. Jack said that he was having trouble getting his people to work on it presumably because there was not promise of labor per hour flat charge and they weren't sure what was wrong with it. After months went by with no estimate I finally asked him what this was going to cost me as he had by then had people working on the  car and bought some spare parts. He assured me that I could get it fixed for less than five hundred dollars; I also asked him to call me before exceeding that amount. There were long periods where I heard nothing at all. When I finally began calling once a week asking nicely for an update I got the same answer always with a new excuse: "it will  be ready next week" with some accompanying excuse why the homework had been eaten the previous week, some may have been legitimate, even if they all were, it does not excuse the result. I picked the car up almost a year later 4/17/2014, at a cost of $700.00 for labor aloneand $300 in parts and some other expenses. One week after I picked it up, the weld on the oil pan came off and it's now back in a different shop: tire engineers. They call me at least once a day with an update, their prices are good and fair, and I will likely never set foot in jack's garage again.
PS-One of the notes on the work up sheet says : "has computer problem - no" which kind of says it all as there is no computer on this very old car and even I know that but these jack a**** had to look and see if there was one. I'd love to know how much it cost me for them to figure that out.

"Jeep was towed in with top off and engine disassembled hard top flew off on tow to shop we went and picked up hard top for the customer and resecured it to jeep it had been sitting what looked like several years fuel tank fuel lines pressure regulator all were full of rust had to pull intake and exhaust off drill and tap broken bolts install freeze plugs distributor was 180 out no clutch customer supplied parts from advance they were wrong we installed key and cylinder and lubed linkage column had issues but was working oil pan had rust holes in it pulled off and welded it up replaced clutch mastercylinder to get clutch working sand blasted fuel rail and tank then flushed complete system traced wiring problems it is a 1995 fuel injected jeep it does have a computer and scanner would not link up all fuses and power to port was good but no cooperation with computer car would run pretty decent so we kept parts and labor as low as we could every time we repaired one thing another problem needed attention we had about 2 weeks worth of crazy problems on top of getting motor running so out of 80 hours we billed 10 which is 700.00 sorry for the time delay but regular maintance customers take presidence over shade tree incomplete vehicles that are a puzzle to re-assemble we are sorry please call if we can help thank you"

delivered radiator on Monday or Tuesday, picked up on Friday.  Told Jack that I needed by Friday.  Picked up as radiator was ready.  My only concern was that paint came off of lower part of radiator just to the touch.  Not wet paint, but like flakes.  Not sure whether that is normal or not.

I don't know how much it was but it was reasonable. It is not a up to date office but it is a small garage.

I use them three or four times a year.  They are the best place I have ever used.  Their price is very reasonable.  I like that if they quote you a price that is the final price.  It doesn’t if they have issues or problems.  They stick with their price.  When I have gone in a couple of times and asked if my brakes were okay, they have checked them for free.  They have said that my brakes were good and not to do anything with them.  They turn away business because of their honesty.
