Weatherization Services LLC

Insulation, Energy Efficiency Auditing, Roofing,

About us

Weatherization Services is experienced in using blown cellulose and spray foam insulation. We strive for perfection and enjoy generating energy savings for all of our customers. Our crews are clean and courteous and understand that “The customer is always right”. Additional phones: (414) 841-3412. Additional fax: (414) 877-1723. We use blown cellulose insulation composed of a minimum 85% recycled fibers. Unlike traditional insulation, it is not manufactured with any formaldehyde, asbestos, mineral fiber, or fiberglass. The density of blown cellulose insulation gives it a high R-value per inch, which it maintains even under extreme conditions. Cellulose insulation achieves great overall energy efficiency, because it is blown into tiny cavities. It surrounds plumbing pipes and electrical wiring, therefore reducing any air infiltration by sealing gaps where energy can escape.

The service visit went well. I had hoped there would have been more testing such as a blower test. Primarily he had checked for air leaks with a hand held device. The insulation in the attic was not checked
Description of Work: We were told of areas of concern for air leaks with the greatest savings to us was detecting a problem with our patio door while still under warranty!! Thank you!

Fred K came to my home and we went through my energy audit (from another company). It appears that I am better off than I thought. I really enjoyed his professionalism and his attention to details. I had some questions and he provided answers that I could understand (I am not in the building trades). Fred informed me that one of the things I wanted to have done -sealing the basement- would require a power vented water heater to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning issues. Thank you for this! I will reconsider this in the future when I replace my water heater with a power vented one or safer unit. I highly recommend this company and Fred. AND you the reviewer should consider having an energy audit performed to see where insulation will help to reduce your energy costs = money savings! This company performs these as well.
Description of Work: I did not have the weatherization services performed due to the return on investment (ROI) or payback for me. However, if I needed to have done this I would definitely hire them. For what I need it would take about 15 yrs or so to see my payback.

We looked them up on Angie's List. They were excellent. They were extremely professional, they cleaned up so well it was cleaner than when they came. They were on time and extremely courteous and very conscientious in terms of making sure there was enough ventilation not only for their comfort but ours as well. It was an excellent job all the way around. From everyone in the office that set up the appointment to the people that came out to give us the quote to the workers who installed it was excellent. I have recommended them to friends and family.

Very nicely. The scope of the work performed was actually greater than I had thought and they did an entire area of the basement I wasn't expecting. Very pleased by that. They made an inadvertent mess with the dense pack insulation but it was not done knowingly or visibly and they came the next day once I noticed it and notified them and cleaned it up. Great service. The only thing that wasn't clear to me were the dozens of holes that were to be drilled in my home that they plugged, but I just wasn't expecting those.

This company was fine. I am glad I had it done so I could identify I don't have large weatherization issues. However, I don't think I will take them up on their recommendations for installing insulation, etc. This is strictly due to the payback period being longer than I expect to be in the home.

They did a good job. The quality of work was good. I sent an email with a request to perform some of the work the gave me quotes on but they did not follow up. I originally scored them low on responsiveness because of this, but after reading my review they redeemed themselves by calling back and apologizing. It appears they never actually received my email and were politely not pestering me about the work. I would and plan to use them again in the near future.

After thinking we would need insulation and were ready to spend the money on it, Fred gave us the good news that everything looked really good in the house!! He told me of a few small areas that needed to be caulked or sealed, but recommended we do it ourselves to save $$!! We really appreciate his honesty and would highly recommend him to anyone!!
Description of Work: We purchased the Big Deal off of Angie's List for them to come out and do an insulation inspection on our house to see if we had sufficient insulation! Fred came out to do the actual test and was very prompt, courteous and professional. Before starting the test he explained everything he would be doing with his camera and he actually wanted me to walk around with him so he could explain what he was doing and if he saw any areas that needed help, I could see them right away! My tenants immediately felt the effects of the attic insulation in their upstairs unit, and we all were able to set our thermostats down after the in-wall insulation, but since we've had such a warm winter, I won't be able to fully realize the effect of the weatherization work on my heating bill until next winter. I was very impressed with the manner in which Fred, the representative from Weatherization Services, and Alejandro and Jon, the crew leaders, explained the process to me, and the level of knowledge and professional demeanor they brought to the job. Weatherization Services was on a list of contractors that have been approved by the ME2 program offered by the City of Milwaukee to help homeowners improve the energy efficiency of their homes. I selected Weatherization Services from the list based upon their ratings on Angie's List, and have not been disappointed.
Description of Work: An independent energy auditor assessed the areas of my duplex that would benefit from energy saving improvements, and based upon his suggestions, a representative from Weatherization Services came to my home within a few days and provided a proposal of costs for each of the suggested improvements. Once I had selected the items that I could afford to have done, Weatherization Services was very accommodating to my schedule and time constraints. Since the holidays were approaching, it was decided that they would perform the attic insulation, attic air sealing, and attic stairwell insulation in December. Since I have a brick-faced house, insulation had to be blown in from the inside, a disruption I did not want right before the holidays. Therefore, the insulation of all sidewalls and remaining soffits in both living units was performed in January. Their accommodation to my needs was further demonstrated in their willingness to defer in-wall insulation of my office until March, when I would have less of a need to work in that room. In addition to the wall and attic insulation work, Weatherization Services insulated six feet of pipes from both water heaters, changed some old clothes dryer venting to solid metal venting, and installed two CO detectors. The crew that performed all of the insulation work were respectful of my privacy, worked efficiently, and cleaned up the dust and debris completely. They neatly and professionally patched the holes they had drilled to blow in the insulation material so they were paint ready. The crew leaders for all phases explained the work to me as they progressed, and checked every wall, ledge, and counter for dust when the work was done. Although the total cost was approximately $6000, I received rebates from the ME2 program and the nationally funded Focus on Energy program that reduced my cost considerably.

Fred was great! Very responsive and prompt with appointments and phone calls. Josie was extremely helpful and pleasant when scheduling the services. As participants in the City of Milwaukee's ME2 energy improvement program, we found WS on the list of approved vendors. We also checked out Angie's List reviews. Fred K. came out to do an estimate for us and was very thorough in his explanations of work to be done. He gained the edge over a competitor when he informed me of an additional rebate program available for multi-family residences through WE Energies. This ultimately earned us an addition $1,200 in rebate cash. They also offered a discount for being an Angie's List member which should pay for my membership for years to come. We have done many home projects (new roof, paint job, windows), but this certainly took the cake for scope of work and manpower dedicated to get the job done right and quickly. i was doubtful about a team of 5-6 people actually showing up to do the job in 2 days. In fact, there was a team of 7-8 on day one, 4-6 on day two, and several guys wrapping up on day 3. They showed up at 8:30 a.m. and worked until 6 p.m. both nights. It was well organized, orchestrated chaos. I had several concerns that arose over the couple days and Fred was immediately responsive even though he wasn't on site. His onsite project manager was very concerned with our satisfaction. I am 100% confident that they would come back a year from now if I asked them to address an issue. The only area of contention was with the electrical sub charged with installing 3 bathroom fans. The work quality was unacceptable after 2 seperate visits. Finally, the 3rd visit rectified the issues in question although we still need to resolve the functionality of one fan. I made WS aware of my displeasure with their sub and they managed the problem to my satisfaction. This was without question my best experience EVER with a home improvement contractor. They showed me with their actions and responsiveness that customer service really is a number one priority for their company. I would definitely recommend their services.

I corresponded with them mostly by email due to my changing work schedule. They always responded promptly. They were one of the contractors working with the Me2 program. Their bid was the lowest. He came out to give me an estimate when he said he would and explained everything to me. He also explained their one bad rating on angie's list when I mentioned it. They did have to delay the work a day or two due to rain but contacted me right away to reschedule. They did install the fan on the original date though. The crew was very efficient and cordial and cleaned up afterwards. When they discovered that a few places would have to be done from inside rather than outside, they explained it to me and asked my permission before going ahead with it. Fred came the first morning to see if I had any questions. He was always very patient with me. I did have to call them back when I discovered the air sealiing had not been done (the insulation took longer than expected), but he sent 2 guys back the next day. They came with the wrong size strips for my windows (too thick) and had to go out to get different ones. In the end we decided it wasn't worth taking them all apart for the small amount of weather stripping especially since we are going to be working on those next, so they just did the doors. Also I had inquired at the last minute about putting a floor in one of the smaller attic spaces that didn't have one, but that email was missed and I forgot to mention it when he came, so it wasn't done--my fault entirely(and my husband was the one home when that particular space was done). I'll know better next time to think of everything beforehand. When I sent in the Angie's list coupon, they sent me a refund as I had already paid the bill. I worked with Me2 because I am not experienced with contractors and wanted a guaranty that the work would be up to par. This work passed the post test and I received my Me2 rebates recently. Now I can work in my sewing room without adding 3 layers of clothing.

-Went great - contacted on a weekend and called me back on Monday. Set up appointment for after energy audit and results. Came to my home and I had an estimate within a few days. Had 3 estimates. Asked energy auditor who they had least call backs on and it was Weatherization. After deciding on Weatherization, I called Fred and they were able to do the job in a week on a Friday which was good as I had off that day (12/30). Said thought could complete in a day but would come back on Monday to finish. They came and worked all day through rain - had to send out for more insulation as they said my 'house was empty' - there was no insulation. As I had to work on Monday, they came back and finished everything up (attic and basement) on Saturday. The work was being done on a 1928 house that had never been insulated. Originally they thought they might have to drill holes in a room partially under the flat roof to insulate but they were able to do from the outside and there was no interior drilling needed. They were quick and efficient, but really had a grasp of what they were doing. Making sure that no insulation came in when they were filling areas by the cold air returns to prevent it getting into the furnace. Showed me the attic when they were done and I was amazed by how much insulation was needed. My house is much more comfortable now and am so glad I took this step. I started with the ME2 program for Milwaukee, and Weatherization was one of their preferred contractors. Anyone living in Milwaukee thinking about having their home insulated should look into the program, you can't go wrong. In addition to reduced costs for the energy audit, there are other incentives involved for the work you have done.
Description of Work: Insulate rim joists w/two part spray foam. Insulate and air seal the accessible open sill box cavities with an R-10 thick spray on two part urethan foam insulatin. Insulated the exterior sidewalls, by temporary removal of existing siding. Dense pack all cavities by tube method. Insulate flat roof cavities. Insulate attic from existing level to a minimum of R-50 with blown in loose fill cellulose. Installed wood barrier around the access opening to prevent insulation from fall out. Weather stripped and insulated the attic access panel with faom board. Insulated all vaulted ceilings.

We solicited three bids and chose them as the best. When I called for an estimate, they came the next day. When I asked for clarifications or changes, they provided them promptly. They scheduled the work in a timely manner and were responsive to requests to come back for minor corrections. I chose them especially because I learned from others who had used them that they were responsive and completed their work in a professional manner.

I went through a program in Milwaukee called the ME2 program. This is a program that gives you rebates for making your home more energy efficient by insulating areas of your house and replacing old water heaters, furnaces, fans, anything that wastes energy. The first part of the program consisted of having an energy assessment of my home which showed all the areas that needed to be addressed. This was done by a different company. The assessment was itemized so I could chose which things I wanted to do now. I then was given a list of approved contractors to choose from to do the work. Weatherization Services was one of the listed contractors. After doing my homework (checking them out on Angie's List, and the BBB) I had them come out to my house to give me an estimate. Fred the General Manager of Weatherization Services came out and went over the list of things that was recommended. Fred went through my house top to bottom and pointed out what he would do in each area. I have crawl spaces that I use for storage, and the way the list read I would keep the storage areas, but if I insulated the way the list read my things in storage would either freeze or melt. Fred suggested insulating those areas in a different way that would still meet the requirements, but would allow my storage areas to be in a more level temperature. The other company that I had come out to give me an estimate had not done this. Fred suggested things as if this was his home, not just a job. The estimate that I received from Fred was also itemized so I could again choose which things that I could afford to do now. I signed a contract and the work started about two weeks later. My project included having all the old insulation in the attic being removed (the men bagged up the old insulation to bring it out of the attic so it wouldn't get all over the house), new insulation being blow in the attic, a new trap door that would be insulated, all of the crawl spaces insulated, under the attic floor boards, all of my outer walls were insulated and they had to do this from the inside because my home is stone. This meant making 2" round holes in all of my exterior walls. I had my old water heater replaced with a more energy efficient one, and I had my bathroom fan replaced with a new energy efficient one. Weatherization Services sent a crew out of 3-4 guys to do the insulation project which were their own employees. The plumber, the electrician and the water heating companies were all hired through them and also belonged to the program. The crew members that did the insulation project worked extremely hard. They covered all of my belongings with plastic and helped me to move a few of the things that I had trouble moving. They were here for almost three complete days. Each day, they cleaned up the areas nicely. The men paid great attention to details and stopped to explain things to me when I had questions. There was a little bit of a language barrier, but most of the questions I had they understood and were able to show me the things that they had trouble trying to explain. The workers were very nice, and treated both me and my home with a lot of respect. The men arrived on time every day and worked long hard hours. They cleaned up both inside and outside daily. Fred stopped in every day to check things over and add things here or there to make things complete. Fred made himself available both by phone and email so we never had to wait long to be in contact with him. They even patched, and sanded all the holes so all I had to do was "patch paint" to get things back to normal. Fred also stopped by right before the men finished up and walked through making sure everything was done as it should be. I am very glad that we chose Weatherization Services to do this job. This was a large job. I needed to take everything out of the storage areas, closets, cabinets, and move everything off and away from the walls. I am still getting things back in place a week later. Fred and his crew made this job go smoothly, quickly and treated us the way customers should be treated. Too many companies don't do that anymore. Fred was very professional and one of the qualities that I liked the most was that he took the time to talk to me, to explain things to me and not just my husband. For this project, my husband had let me "run with it" and I was very pleasantly surprised to be treated with respect and informed by Fred through the whole thing. Their prices were right in line with the other estimate that I had received and Fred honored the Angie's List coupon. There was no "sales pressure/pitch" just a good explanation of the work and excellent itemized estimate. Fred had also said that they would do as little or as much work as I wanted to be done, so they wouldn't turn their noses up at smaller jobs like some companies do. We are very happy with the way the work went and are looking forward to saving money on our electric/gas bills over the winter. Thank you Fred.
Description of Work: Weatherization Services came out in September and did an insulation project in my house. This was a large project insulating my home in the attic, crawl spaces, all my outer walls, replacing my water heater & bathroom fans with energy efficient ones, sealing up all air leaks in my house.

It didn't turn out the best. They removed a couple of pieces of siding, drilled holes into the boards underneath and blew insulation, hopefully between the studs. Overall they did what they said what they were going to do, but I would say the quality of their work is much to be desired. They were about a crew of 5. Without the foreman you really needed to know the Spanish language so there was a communication issue unless the foreman was around. They were in a hurry to remove the boards, jamming crowbars underneath, ripping the boards. They would just say, well, that is the nature of it. They could have been more careful cutting the boards. Their tools were dull so they splintered the wood. They would cut the tar paper off underneath and not replace it when putting the siding back up. I happened to catch that. I asked them to go get a roll of tar paper and put it back on the house. I was not at home so it is my guess that all of these boards could not have had tar paper underneath, which is a code violation. When they put the boards back up they did not patch them so that they are even with each other. One board would be hanging down. It was sloppy work. It would be extremely difficult for me to smooth that out or to hire someone would be extra cost to smooth it out and try to paint over it. I am almost at the point of having someone rip off all the siding and put new siding up which would be very expensive. Would I hire them again? No. Would I recommend them? No. Compared to people who do the same work their price was comparable. But their professionalism, quality of work and communication was difficult. They ran their leakage tests very quickly and with questionable equipment. They were on time.

They were great. Our house is 2000 sq feet and they insulated all the interior walls. It was a good deal. They cut holes between the joists and the dry walls because we have a big house. They were on time. They were very professional. They had a great team leader. They communicated exactly what they were doing and also there was a stretch through an infrared camera that inspects all the walls and cervices and they made sure everything it was done properly. I think they were in and out the same day. My only advice is that they need to come from the inside of the walls it will not be miserable because of the dust from the dry walls in your house. They cleaned up, moped the floors and removed all the dry wall dust. They cleaned up the whole house as best as they could. The price was good. It was very reasonable. They were competitive through the walls but on the attic they were not competitive. I would use them in the future.
Description of Work: Weatherization Services LLC insulated the inside walls.

It was a combination of insulations since I have a cape cod style house. They had a competitive price compared to others. They were really willing to answer questions and address my concerns. They were timely with the estimate. They were flexible in giving me quotes for all different types of insulation. They came here on time and were here all day. Dramatic change in the temperature of my house since it has been done.
Description of Work: They installed insulation in my attic at my house.

The job went very well. The holes were patched professionally, which required just minor sanding prior painting of the patches.
Description of Work: They were blowing cellulose insulation into few external walls and garage ceiling of our house, built in early 1930s. Holes were drilled in the walls from inside and from garage into the ceiling.

The interaction from the beginning with Devon from estimate, to answering all my questions to completion has been excellent. Devon came by to check on the progress of the work about mid day and to make sure all my questions were being answered. His employees were efficient, polite and also answered any questions I had during the process. Everything was cleaned up at completion including some vacuuming of the grass to get up the excess insulation. All services were completed as promised. I called Devon regarding a spot they missed with the insulation in the sill boxes. His company was out the next morning and not only took care of that but added some additional blanket insulation in the sill boxes below the overhang in the back. Thank you Weatherization Services for your prompt response. and excellent customer service.
Description of Work: Insulation blown into the walls, soffet, and overhang. In addition all sill boxes insulated with foam and blanket insulation.
