The house was immaculate when it was finished. They gave me a significant discount because they didn't have to move furniture. They were very prompt. They were very conscientious. I would give them an A+ all the way across. I have recommended them to other people.

Tony (owner/estimator) identified the border as Brazilian cherry, said it would look beautiful and left quote for $6684.20. Shortly after scheduling the installer I received an apologetic call from Tina to say that Tony had made a mistake and the price was really $1158.00 more! I was understandably unhappy but we finally compromised and split the additional cost. This added $579.90 to my bill. The flooring has been installed. Now I am told the only way for it to approximately match the existing border is to wait 3 to 7 years for it to darken naturally or to "water-pop" stain it for an additional $380.00 some charge. I have no choice but to pay this charge as it looks like a botched job otherwise. Tony never mentioned any of this during his visit! Go anywhere else but here! I am very disgusted by over $950 increase due to Tony's 'mistakes'. As a professional he must have known the color wouldn't even come close to a match without this procedure. I feel scammed.
Description of Work: Install and finish 627 sq ft hardwood flooring in dining room and family room. Color and wood to 'match' existing border in kitchen. Remove and dispose of carpet in both rooms. Finish corner molding between baseboard and floor.

Response from Max Care Hardwood Flooring
Tony gave the member a quote on 6/6/12. She called in and scheduled her job the same day. After she scheduled we called the supplier to order her material. Upon placing the order we were informed by our supplier that the cost of that particular species had increased due to the Lacey Act, which affects the cost of all exotic woods coming to the US. Tina then called the member to inform her of the price increase. At that point, she had the opportunity to reject the proposal and take her business elsewhere. We came to an agreement to split the cost of the material ($1158). The floor was then installed. When we sanded the floor the member wanted the floor to be darker in color. We informed her this material would darken with time in approx 3-6 months. She did not want to wait. The other option would be to water-pop stain. Most people do not stain this species of wood. She was informed there would be an additional charge if she chose to stain it. She agreed and we proceeded. There were no hidden charges. She was informed up front of each charge before we proceeded. She also signed and approved each change order. Unfortunately, there will be no price reduction from the agreed upon additional charges.

They do solid work. Tina, the office manager, is very kind and went out of her way to explain what was going on and advise what we should be doing before, during and after the service. The guys did a great job. They presented us with some options so we could confidently make the decision. Their was enough attention to detail to keep us satisfied. I thought the price was competitive.

Make sure if there's an offer out there, that you make sure it is included in the estimate. It doesn't get factored in after that. Make sure you have the flexibility of schedule to accommodate several time windows during the time of the work. If not, it gets difficult trying to coordinate this.
Description of Work: Everyone was extremely punctual and professional. There was a little miscommunication on time expectations of the final finishing, but this was eventually clarified. The estimator acknowledged that we booked the request because of Angie's List but didn't apply the $50 discount that was associated with mentioning this. We did get additional repair work done, so this may have been figured into the overall price. Overall, it was a good experience.

They did an abolutely perfect job. They moved my furniture downstairs on Wednesday night. They started with sandiing on a Thursday, stained on Friday, let it dry over the weekend and sealed it on Monday with two costs of polyurethane. I had a brochure with the color I wanted, and they matched it perfectly. Pedro did all of the sanding and staining and did an amazing job even around the carpeting on the landing. They moved the furniture back upstairs on Tuesday and laid the rug back down on Wednesday so the floor had plenty of time to dry. There was not one single thing that went wrong. When they advertise 100% dust free, they mean in -- not one speck.
Description of Work: Max Care sanded, stained and sealed two bedrooms and a landing. They also provided two young men to move all of my furniture to the downstairs and back up again.

There is no mess as all the sawdust is drawn back into the trucks. They were good and they were experienced. So I could trust them. Red oak is the prettiest that you can get in textures and this wood floor is from 1935 and it looks beautiful. There was a young guy who was doing it and he took real pride in what he was doing. He came back after the first top coat and he looked at what he had done as he was repairing some other floors of ours. I was thrilled and he was also real thrilled. I recommend them.

I obtained 4 quotes for refinishing our parquet floors. Of the 4 quotes, Max Care was half the price of the highest quote. I was quite nervous about that, as I was concerned they may be cutting corners in order to charge much less, or were not experienced with parque. I called and spoke to the owner about my concerns and he patiently explained the process in detail, gave me his number as requested that I call with any concerns. The crews were very professional, polite and took their time with our questions and stain selection. I was amazed that they could acutally do the work without sealing off the other rooms. I even ran my fingers on the counters looking for residue because I just found it hard to believe. The quality and detail work in ever corner was amazing. My hesitation caused me to look for flaws, but I just couldn't find any. I would highly recommend Max Care.

I did not have an awful experience, but it wasn't a good one either. The exact reason why I used them is the same reason I would never use them again. I just purchased a home and wanted to get it done in a hurry. I received bids from some smaller companies, where it was basically just one guy, but I didn't have time to use them. The end result is I have nice floors, but it was up to me to have the job completed properly. I incorrectly had my contractor leave the base boards off the walls where I had him refinish my walls. I thought I was doing the floor guys a favor by leaving it off, thinking they would need to take them off anyways. Well, I had to argue with them to put the baseboards back on. Then, they put nothing down between the hallway and kitchen doorways, so there was a gap in the two doorways to the kitchen. I had to tell the office people on the phone, then the guy showed up without the pieces and I had to tell him the pieces were still missing. I'm ok if I made the mistake, but they showed little care in helping me out. What good is a nice floor if there are no base boards (actually there were baseboards but they were laying in the kitchen)? Part of the Living Room didn't have baseboards or quarter round to begin with, so they were always aware of needing to do some of it anyways from the beginning. They weren't able to put the finish on Friday, becuase the stain wasn't dry from Thursday. That is understandable, however, they neglected to tell me this until 4;30pm on Friday when I had hired movers to come on Monday. Tony and the guys working were nice, but I felt like I had to project manage everything. They just wanted to put floors in and nothing else. I feel like I should have taken the time to go with a smaller company and gotten the craftsmanship and care in doing the project well, not just completing the project. I dropped off a check for the project and just received a voicemail saying that MaxCare will deposit the check but the price they quoted me was for cash. So, they will deposit my check and provide me with an increased bill for not paying in cash. They actually want me to pay them $3800 in dollar bills. At this point, I'm tempted to pay them in all singles.

Maxcare was the least expensive of the quotes I got by a few hundred dollars and their reviews on Angie's List were pretty good so it seemed like a no-brainer. I am very pleased with MaxCare. All my floors look amazing! Everyone I dealt with was very professional & responsive to my questions/concerns. Everytime I called their office, the staff seemed to be up to speed on my project & if I had a question they found an answer for me within a few minutes. When my floors didn't dry in time to put the finishing coat on the scheduled friday, Tina, at the office, made phone calls until she found someone to come to my house saturday morning (christmas eve day) and finish my floors so that the rest of my project didn't get behind schedule. I really felt like they went above & beyond to make sure I was happy. Overall, it was a great experience!

Had Maxcare and 2 additional venders come to my sisters new home to get estimastes on sanding and refinishing the hardwood floors. Mark from Maxcare came out within days of my initial contact to request an estimate. They were very flexible since we had to work around mine and my sisters work schedules. Mark quickly evaluated the floors, explained what needed to be done, and what he recommended. He was thurough in answering all of my questions. He gave me his quote before leaving and was not pushy. His estimate was significantly less than the other 2, because of this along with his high rating on Angie's list and included dust free process we decided to have them do the job. They were able to get us scheduled in less than 2 weeks which was helpful because my sister was not planning to move in until the floors were done. There were separate personel who came on 2 different days to do the sanding/staining and then the top coats. Both were prompt, knowlegable, and professional. They did a very nice job refinishing the floors and left everything very clean. The floors look like they are brand new. Rachael was great at checking up on things, answering questions and reminding us of all the appointments.

It turned our beautiful. The only thing is that the service guy that performed the work was kind of hard to read. He didn't say much and I wish he would have been more helpful and made suggestions as to if we should replace boards or any "how to's" so to speak. We had never done this before so a little more guidance would have been helpful. Other than that, I was very satisfied with MaxCare and would use them again.

What a terrible experience! We had MaxCare give us an estimate for hardwood flooring in our kitchen, dining room and living room. They gave us quotes for the hardwood product with installation and installation only and we elected to have them install pre-finished hardwood flooring which we purchased separately. Our problems started when the installers arrived to install the flooring in the kitchen and their rudimentary grasp of english made communication difficult. We had moved enough of the wood into the house two weeks earlier to let it acclimate and told the crew to use wood from in the house and not use the wood which was still in the garage. We also asked them to check the wood as it was being installed and not use any boards which were flawed (this direction was included in the installation guide for the wood). They started work and it was obvious they were more concerned in getting the job done than getting the job done right. Later in the day we found them using wood from the garage which we had told them not to do. When installing the floor where it meets the threshold for our screen porch door they did not turn a strip sideways, they just butted up uneven boards and they did a less than adequate job where the hardwood meets the carpet. After they we done we noticed large gaps between some of the boards and cracked boards that had been installed even though we had asked them to check the wood. Some of the problems were likely related to their using the un-acclimated wood from the garage. When we complained to the owner he put off of the blame on the product and would not admit that his crew had done a less than stellar job and has used wood that we told them not to use. He was completely unwilling to work with us. When we asked for an adjustment on the bill his reply was that if we did not pay the full bill he would take us to court and put a lien on our house. Rather than get into a long, drawn out battle we paid the bill. Ultimately we tore out the floor they installed and started fresh with a reliable and responsible contractor. Run do not walk away from MaxCare!!!

Response from Max Care Hardwood Flooring
The customer supplied their own material. When our crew was installing the floor there were so many unusable boards that they ran out of material. They had to use the extra material from the garage area to complete the floor. The customer prepped the sub-floor. Our contract was to install only. The customer was not happy with the transition to the adjoining floor. The customer called right away and spoke of his dismay with the crew using the garage material. We checked with the crew to find out why they used those particular bundles. They explained after pulling the boards out they ran out of material. Tony explained the guys did the best they could with the situation. He also said if in the future you have any issues with the material from the garage he would come out and fix the area if need be. As far as payment, we waited nearly 60 days. After that amount of time if the customer does not respond we do file with the court system and begin the collection process. It was not that we were unwilling to work with the customer, but there was not any workmanship issues to address. It was poor quality material. The customer also contacted the store he purchased his material from and they supplied him with new material, but I see that was failed to be mentioned. It is unfortunate he feels he had a bad experience as we try to satisfy all our customers.

Ultimately, MaxCare did a good job refinishing our floors. Pros: 1. Decent price for the work completed 2. Replaced several sections of boards that were unsalvageable 3. Rachel, the office manager is fantastic to work with Cons: 1. Felt rushed when MaxCare came out to conduct the estimate 2. When the floor technician came out, he was supposed to show us samples of the various stains we could choose from. We had to ask him several times to sand a section of the floor in order to show us our options. 3. The Monday MaxCare came to apply the last two sealer coats, they were short one employee (someone had called in sick). We did not have our second coat put on until 7:00 pm, which meant we couldn't walk on the floor until almost 11:00 pm! We couldn't access any of our house, but the kitchen through the side door or the living room through the front door. This is too much to ask of your customer. 4. I was never sent a bill - someone just called me and told me to drop off the payment immediately. Ummm, shouldn't MaxCare be responsible for collecting the payment for its services - maybe finding a good time to drop by the customers' home at their convenience to collect the payment, since we did pay in cash?

Not a good experience. I am left feeling insulted and disrespected. Be aware that Maxcare does not call or come back to inspect their work. Several weeks after the poly coat application I noticed the "sheen" was uneven and in some areas was noticably different. I called and arranged for a Maxcare rep to come over and inspect the floors. He took one look and responded "this is unacceptable." He later explained that it had been mixed incorrectly. I waited over a month for a second application. Again, no one called or came back to inspect the work. No bill, nothing. After several months I received a call from the office manager wanting to know why I had not paid the balance. I told her I had not received a bill AND was still waiting for someone to fix the flooring (which had been cut too wide by one of the heat vents and left a noticable gap). The office manager assured me she would have someone "get back to you" to set up an appt. I waited for almost two months and then received several voicemails from the owner wanting to set up an appt.to fix the gap. I returned his call and left a voice mail indicating it would have to wait til the following week because of my work schedule. Shortly thereafter I received back to back voicemails from the owner and office manager telling me they would NOT fix the "gap" in the floor because the contract specifically stated I had "seven days" to inform them of any problems. They also threatened to take me to small claims court if I did not pay the balance within one week. My initial response was "huh?" I called Maxcare several times but continued to get their voicemail (as usual). I left a voicemail politely expressing my dismay and assured them I had every intention of paying the balance but had been waiting patiently for them to finish the job. I asked them to reconsider and if not, to send me the bill and I would remit final payment. I also reminded them I had found their company on Angie's List and would be submitting a report based on my overall experience. No one called back. Several days later I received a bill from Maxcare. At the bottom of the invoice it stated "it was a pleasure working with you." Seriously?

The crew arrived on time did their sanding on the day they said they would. I was not there but there was no lick of dust we had to clean when we got home. On the next day, I was there to pick the color of the stain. The crew was very patient with me changing my mind about the stain color a half dozen times. Overall, the floor was done very professionally, I love it. It was a great experience dealing with them. Will defintely use them again!
Description of Work: We hired Maxcare LLC to refinish our dinning room floor over a year ago. The quote was the most reasonable one out of a couple of companies I asked for estimates for. Because I only asked one room to be finished and had to meet their minimal cost requirement, the cost was higher than if you get more square footages done. Their per square foot cost was the lowest. What really attracted us to them is the dust free system.

The owner JIm (?) came out to give us an estimate. He was very professional, honest and unbiased. He gave me the estimate on site at the end of the visit. He was the only one give me the estimate right away. With the other two companies that came out to quote, one never followed up with the formal quote (gave me verbal though), the other one took a few days. Based on my prior experience, I highly endorse them and definitely use them in the future.
Description of Work: We asked Maxcare to give us an estimate to repair the dents and scratches our tenant had left on the dining room and living room floors. Out of all quotes we received (3), they were the lowest. I used them before to refinish our own home and had a wonderful experience with them. I have not decided what to do yet on the floors but will defnitely use them for sure when we do.

I did have to be persistent in getting through to the office to schedule an appointment for an estimate, but it was worth the effort. There was one board that needed to be replaced, and then the floors were beautifully sanded, with absolutely no dust infiltrating the house. The high-powered vac system was amazing! A light stain was applied immediately afterward, and then the floors were finished after the stain was dry. We had scheduled the work to be done on Thurs/Fri, but because the weather turned hot and humid and our house doesn't have central AC, the floors weren't dry enough to finish on Friday, so that was delayed until Monday. There was a small area that needed to be redone, but rescheduling that was simple and the work was finished in under ten minutes. The final cost was exactly as estimated. All in all, I'm exceptionally pleased with all aspects.

They came out in May. They did a beautiful job on the floors. During the sanding process, they actually left a lot of marks on my freshly painted wall. I was very unhappy with that. I think it took three tries to get them to fix it in terms of painting and re painting but they did it. They were very willing to work with me on that and so I was very pleased.
