Description of Work: I've had 2 jobs w maxcare. A year ago, a simple refinishing turned into a complete tear out Bc my floors were too thin. MC bent over backwards to keep it on schedule and adjust to a bigger longer job. The revised, higher pricing seemed fair. They had to tear out subfloor too n a 120 year old house. Problems: since I expected a dust free finishing when I left town to clear out for the floor Job, I didn't cover any of my stuff, all piled into two rooms. But neither did MC when they did the tear out. And they sawed all their boards IN the house, in the room w my uncovered electronics, etc. and they touched dirty hands on every newly painted wall for balance as the walked the joists. We came to an accommodation. But hassles could have Ben avoided if someone had thought or cared to throw some plastic over my stuff and to mask off the rest of the house. |The floor is gorgeous. Nice and tight year round, no matter the weather. I lack AC. Only one board split...but they dissuaded me from having them do a warranty repair w the story that the refinished board would stand out and not blend in due to slightly older age of gloss arond it. | |So I had them return this year to rip out and replace the remains floors. |Turns out they could salvage and refinish what was there. They already had my 50% down payment, so they provided a small refund. |My gripe: it took less than an hour to lid away two floating laminate floors and new carpet in 3 Small rooms. They charged my $800 for this tear out. |I expected it to be based on time, they seemed to base it only on the worst case scenario of size of room lined w concrete. |If they'd Been up front with this, I would have done the tear out myself. |I called and emailed at least 4 times to discuss this aspect of their job. The did not respond or email me back, not once. |However, they did return a call when I sought a bid for another project. |PROs: they did a great job. The floor is tight and solid. When they screw up, they will meet you part way w a compromise. But you have to push and advocate. This works, if you still owe them $$ on a job. But if you ve overpaid and need a refund, they sort of take a screw you approach not just in calculating it but in not even calling back when you try to get them to discuss. |CONs: it's worth getting them to itemize a Bc if you consider tearing out old floor covering yourself. | |I would use them again, w caveat of nailing down expectations and communications. |

Description of Work: They sanded and refinished my living room floor. Filled any nail holes or other imperfections. I had a good sized chip out of the floor you could see from 2 to 3 feet away and now I can't find it any more. first day sanded, repaired and stained floor. Day 2 came in the morning and applied first coat, then later in the afternoon came back and did second and last coat. The floor looks great. Oh, with their vac truck there is no dust!
