We are a medium sized family operated business. Our company consist of 13 employees. We are home of the "100% Dust Free Sanding & Refinishing". The best part is... we don't charge extra for dust free sanding! Cost is determined per job and location. We give free estimates.
the floors had not been refinished in twenty years so there were some areas badly needing refinishing. The sanding crew was there on time, we tried a couple stains, and they went ahead and finished their tasks. the finisher showed up the next day and applied two finish coats. We are very pleased with the results. Between areas of severe wear, some water issues in the bathroom and some scratches, they were able to refinish and make them all look very good. There was an earlier comments, the kitchen counters had some fine dust, but not very bad at all, and it was easily removed.
Description of Work: Sanded and refinished 1rst floor of home.
From the time I had connected with them via Angies List, to the finished product, I was highly impressed. They were responsive, reasonable, and very transparent in the costs, the options, the timing, etc. When I walked into my newly finished area, I actually cried. It was incredible to see my floors look THIS GOOD in years. I'm already moved from the home, so the new owners can enjoy them and they will. I also received updates along the way. e.g. I was called at the end of the first day to explain that the initial sanding was complete. There were questions on the finish -- i.e. I was told that my original finish was water based and they use an oil base instead. She explained the differences and we proceeded forward. The finish that she suggested brought out the glory of the natural maple and they look better than the original finish. She also warned that as they got close to the molding, they couldn't guarantee that they wouldn't nick or chip it (painted) with their equipment, but if they did, it could be touched up. This did not happen at all. They were extremely careful. I repainted the molding anyway but it already was nicked up from years of kids, animals, etc. The only downside I saw, which did not affect the rating, but just serves an fyi, is that this was really not completely dustless. I did find a layer of dust on my counters after the job was completed. It was not thick however. Simple to just wipe down. But if you are living in the home, I would recommend taking things off counters and perhaps wrapping hanging light fixtures just to help at the end with cleanup. Again, not a huge issue -- I just wasn't sure was 'dustless' truly meant and never asked either. Then get an A+ in my book and I will recommend them to others.
Description of Work: I had two large areas -- a sunroom and a kitchen with two closets that were in bad shape. They sanded the floors down and put a nice finish on the natural wood.

This was the most traumatic experience I have ever had. I have lived in and rehabed 6 homes so I know what to expect. They were to buff and coat the downstairs as the floors were in fabulous condition and it was important to retain the orginal vintage patina. I came down stairs to find the worker had sanded off the patiina of the living room. I was in shock. He assured me that while it was an error he could make it match, never acknowledging that he ruined an antiique floor. He put on a stain that was nearly black. By this time management was involved. They assured me they could make this right, again, never acknowledging that it could not really be made right because the goal was to maintain the original patina. After multiple attemps at matching the sanded floor with the foyer I finally agreed to the stain. I knew that it could never match. You cannot create patina once it is removed. The house was empty but they elected to sand and finish the upstairs in two parts. This is against everything I know about doing a complete floor whenever possible. When the worker put the sealer on the second section it did not match; it was orange. The owner/manager came out and tried to convince me that it was simply different flooring. After arguing about this they resanded and applied a different sealer which indeed did match. I guess the floor wasn't two different woods afterall. Upon later inspection, they did not resand the area between the second floor spindles so there remains an orange tinge in this area. They did a terrible job under the radiators. And finally some areas, especially in front of the stairs are blotchy. I had to cancel a trip to oversee this job once I realized there was a great deal of incompetence. I also had to take time off work to resolve the second floor issue. I followed up 6 weeks later with a phone call to discuss an adjustment on the bill. I was yelled at by the owner and had to listen to how this job was a nightmare for him, cost him extra money as he had to pull workers off other jobs and defending that he did everything he could to make it right. I will admit, he did attempt to make it right. This company ruined my floors. The grim reality is somethings cannot be fixed. I resent the fact that he attempted to put this back on me. I paid the bill and decided to write my first review ever on Angie's list. If your are smart, you will not use this company.

Response from Max Care Hardwood Flooring
We apologize for the stress we may have caused during this process. We feel we did do everything to rectify the situation and to her liking. Each step was approved by the member before moving forward. After all the hiccups the completion day was delayed by one day. When situations arose we addressed them immediately. Our sander did sand an existing floor that should have been buffed and coated. Matching an old floor is tricky to do, but it came pretty close in color. We did acknowledge it was tough to match an old aged floor but we could play with the colors and come up with something that would be close. After re-sanding the floor a second time to tweak the color she did approve and we moved forward with finish. It was a larger project and with trying to complete the project in her short time frame requested in short notice. With meeting a move in date the crew sanded and sealed what they could to make progress to allow that section to be completed and allow furniture to be placed; then work on the second section. Upon doing it in two phases the color did not match. There was a section that had completely different wood and thought it was a possibility that was why it didn’t match. There was no arguing. We even brought coffee when we started discussing things. We came out to see the color was off and asked her what she would like to do; sand the first part or re-sand the second part. She made her choice and we moved forward with her approval. We adjusted our schedule to continue to work at her house. We never left her waiting as we were scheduled out a month and a half. We gave her time to move in and get adjusted. After waiting 6 weeks to get paid (as where our customers are expected to make payment after completion) we called her for payment. It was then that she wanted to discuss the bill. The bill was sent out after completion. Typically if there is an issue or concern customers call right away to address them. Not wait to be called for payment then want to talk about an adjustment. We waited a month and a half for payment which generally they are taken to collections if payment is not made or any kind of communication. We were patient with waiting for payment. We adjusted our schedule to continue to work at her house. We never left her waiting as we were scheduled out a month and a half. Unfortunately, there will be no refund. We feel we rectified our mistake and took care of the issues as they arose with a friendly attitude and quick turn around.

It went great. They have one crew for the sanding on the first day and a second crew does the finishing the following day. Both crews were extremely professional and did a great job. There was truly NO DUST, and the floors looked great. We had pulled the quarter round out for painting and decided to leave it off for the floor refinishing. They got so close to the baseboard that I don't think it's even necessary to put the quarter round back on. I'm very happy.

I didn't go well. Maxcare did not remove all the screws and other metal parts that were imbedded in the existing floor. They chose to sand them and finish over them. Approximately 30 metal parts or screws were clearly visible after the initial work and they had to be removed and many more had to be driven into the floor and patched. The floor had to be completely re-done.

If you're in a hurry...... Great service, great work, good price, FAST service. If you have time....... I hired an independent contractor to refinish my hard wood floors about 1,5 years ago. He finished the downstairs floors and the disappeared with $2,500 of my money. The state later prosecuted him for "theft as a contractor". Recently I got a quote from another independent, who first quoted $5,500 for the upstairs floors, then came down to $4,000 and then $3,000 Max Care came in to quote the remaining work a couple of weeks ago. No sales pressure, no fuss, a written quote for $2,200. I got on their schedule in about a week from my order. They came in on Friday, sanded and stained the floors and on Monday they came back to put two coats of top-coat. They had a truck outside sucking up all the dust. There is no sign on dust anywhere in the house!!! Everyone representing the company have been very professional and friendly. True professionals!!! The floors look great. I couldn't be happier.

They were very quick and they were on time for work. They were professional. Quality work was good. I would recommend them. They got staining all over the place and the walls. They had to come back a couple of times to work on a couple of pieces that didn't accept stain and had to be sanded down some more.

I think I found them on Angie’s List. Overall, I think it went well. I am overall satisfied. The floors turned out well. They did have a system that didn’t leave dust everywhere in the house. They had a vacuum system. In the upstairs there was lacquer that was not nicely finished, but overall they did a nice job.
Description of Work: I used Max Care Hardwood Flooring for refinishing. I used them twice within the same year. They refinished all the hardwood floors in our new home. They also did some repairs; patching in areas with remnants of the old hardwood floors to match with our existing. In the other house we had the linoleum pulled and they refinished the wood floors that were underneath that in the kitchen.

We are extremely happy with the refinishing and the plank replacement. Max Care scheduled the work while we were on vacation. This required our remodeling contractor and Max Care to communicate. Once the transition area at the patio door was completed Max Care would be doing their refinishing etc. Our remodel contractor was then told not to do any indoor work so the refinishing could cure. Everything went well until the Max Care workers failed to install and refinish the patio door transition area. Our remodel contractors called me while we were still on vacation to tell us that this area was not done. I do know that in speaking to Max Care after signing the contract that this area was not included. However I did give Max Care our contractor phone contact and they also had my cell number. Bottom line is we had to have Max Care come back and install transition / duct piece and refinish. There is a somewhat noticeable lighter shade in this area. The technician that came out did a great job but I was disappointed in the lack of communication between Max Care management and Max Care's crew. It was pretty obvious that refinishing the area in question would be difficult to match. I was a phone call away and the remodel contractor was never contacted.
Description of Work: Following a remodel in our dining / kitchen area we needed our oak flooring refinished. There were 3 areas that required oak plank replacement. A transition area required a flush oak heating grate installed at the patio door.

Everything started out just fine. Tony came out to do the estimate as planned. He was right on time. He did the estimate, and left. We realized there were a few other things/questions that Tony didn't address when he was here. So we requested that he come back out to take a look at some of the transitions that he didn't look at while he was here the first time. We didn't want there to be any miscommunication the day work would have started. That apparently was not important to Max Care. Wendy in the office kind of gave me the run around. Telling me Tony would have to call me back. I gave him a week, and still never heard from him. So I called them. Wendy put me on hold, only to come back to tell me oh Tony said we are just too busy right now to come back out again. Well thanks for telling me you would call me back when you had no intensions on doing so. A real company would go out of it's way to earn a new customers business. Not Max Care. I'd stay away from this company. They don't care about you. All they care about is $$ in their pocket. I'm happy to say that I have met with several other companies that have shown a great desire to earn our business. Max Care= garbage service. Look else where for your hardwood flooring needs.

Max Care was able to turn just awful floors into something we really enjoy. staff was first rate from initial contact right to the finish. it was a very pleasant and satisfying experience
We were delighted with the results of our floor. The floor is 60 years old but looks brand new. I truly do not think we could be happier with the results but even the process had some shining moments. This was a small job, only one room, but the team really took their time when they were sanding our floor. They went over the corners and by the doorway to make sure the results were uniform. The dust is vacuumed out to their truck, so there is absolutely no dust in the home. The finisher was so pleasant that we felt like old friends. I know it was his work and his company's work but you could tell he was just as pleased with the results as we were. We will definitely use them again.

An appointment was set for today at 10:00 a.m. I received a phone call at 9:20 from Maxcare stating that they do not come to Ozaukee County, and did not know until this morning that this was set up. I wonder why they are in the Ozaukee County yellow pages,if they do not want to come up here. The woman on the line stated that it was a new employee that set up the appointment for an estimate, and that she was unaware of this. She also stated that they would have to charge more and I would be better off with a company that was closer. I am sure that the schedule is made in advance, and a call at least one day prior to the appointed time would be acceptable; however,to call forty minutes prior to the time to arrive, was very unprofessional, rude and disappointing for a business with such great qualifications.

I have dealt with Max Care on three separate occasions and they have always been professional and the quality of their work is excellent. The first time I had them come out for an estimate, but decided to go with a (slightly) cheaper estimate. I regretted it as the quality of work from that company was poor, the job took forever, and the workers even smoked in my house. On the second property, they were the middle estimate, but based on my previous experience I decided to give them a try. I'm glad I did- they were prompt and professional from the first phone contact to payment. They gave me a few different options of finish and explained the benefits of each. I was a bit worried that the kitchen (which had been covered in layers of tile) would not come out well, but it really looks like a new floor. They worked around the radiators and were cleaned up after themselves. I would highly recommend MaxCare and I think that sometimes it's worth paying a tiny bit more for a high quality job.

We had a very good experience with Max Care as they got back to us right away to set up an appointment to review the work to be done. Once we decided to go forward with their quote (very reasonable) we wanted the work done the next week and they did not blink an eye as they had time in their schedule (slow time of year). There were quite a few repairs to be made to the floor from previous owners and we ended up using new wood in it's place as opposed to using period wood, it's not a show house and looks great! Work crew was kind and hard working! The dust level was virtually zero and was way less than I expected. The only thing I would have liked was a follow up from Max Care to see how we liked the job and if we had an questions...they did provide a piece of paper listing the guidelines.

I called Max Care frantic because the co. I had originally hired backed out the day he was to start. I already had all my furniture professionally removed. Max Care came out with in an hour and gave me a very fair estimate. They were booked out over a week but fit me in and started 2 days later. They came and sanded a spot on the floor and put some colors on my wood so I could see how it would look. They explained the plus and minus of each color. I chose Nutmeg. What a difference the new color makes threw out my home! They also offered a finish that you could walk on in six hours and was more durable. It was very reasonably priced! With 2 dogs I was very happy they offered it! When they say dust free... They mean dust free. I had glasses on the kitchen counter and they literarily do not have a speck of dust on them... The sanders were polite, professional, answered all my questions. To my surprise they filled some really bad nail holes, sanded a place my dog chewed on a step and made a piece of wood that is between my laundry room and kitchen look new!! The office staff were also wonderful! I can not say enough good things about this friendly, professional company! I just wish they did cabinets... Because with my beautiful gleaming new floors my cabinets look like they need a face lift! This company is locally owned and the man sanding my floors said he had been doing it for a decade... To me that means experienced workers that are working for people that treat them well. Thank you Max Care!!!!

However felt we were being pushed towards a flooring look we did not desire. They said that the old color could not be matched and that the modern look was to have unstained floors. That may be true, but did find several other companies willing to match the old color.
Description of Work: Met with their rep. and received a reasonable quote.
The service and professionalism is top notch. I used them once for a previous job and that turned out beautiful too. The only complaint I have this time is that they nicked up my baseboards a lot in one room. The stairs look pretty nice but I can see some sanding imperfections that I would have liked to be a little more uniform. Overall the project was done at a reasonable cost and it was done quickly. The previous job I had them do were floors on my main floor. They turned out beautifully. No nicks on the baseboard, but they did nick up the tile around the fireplace. I called about it and they came and put a threshold around where the tile meets the wood for free. They were very responsive and I appreciate their prompt response and attention to detail.
