They came in and and did an absolutely beautiful job! They matched the floors perfectly to the existing trim and woodwork that had been exposed for the last 50 years. There was virtually no dust created by the sanding and the finished product looks like it fits perfectly with the age/style of the house.

From the quote by Jill Anderson to the finished product, everything was very professional. Jill took the time to answer a few questions about how their company was superior to competitors and which "level" of finish we wanted (basically bronze, silver and gold with increasing quality products used). The work was done as promised: on time by professionals in a neat, organized way. I especially liked how the workers called (and texted when I requested) with exact times of when they'd arrive and when work was completed (so we'd stay off the floors the correct amount of time to allow proper drying time). We are thrilled with the end result and would DEFINITELY recommend Anderson Floor Company. For $1,300 we had our foyer, hallways, kitchen, dinette and 2 closets refinished. They accepted a cash discount which was nice.

We relied on the research provided by Angies List (thank you) and the recommendation of our neighbor. Our experience was amazing! Jill Anderson provided a thorough evaluation and detailed description of the process including care of the floors after completion. Readily answered all my concerns. The experience confirmed our belief that quality is worth paying for. I would have never chosen the lowest bidder and take a chance on an inferior job. We chose the "Gold Package" because of our lifestyle. We received tip sheets and a handy starter-kit with a mop and cleaner. A factor in choosing this contractor over a competitor was the ability for us to set the schedule. Throughout the process, we were informed as to scheduling and also when we could access areas. The two workmen were extremely polite and professional. They were required to sand off the old stain & varnish and to match up with new flooring which was in the middle of the kitchen. The match is seamless and unable to detect that there had been two areas. Even my somewhat perfectionist husband was impressed. I was pleased how little dust was left behind...supporting the claimed "dust containment." Our house is small with numerous niches. No wall or baseboard damage, yet the flooring was completed with exacting detail. We chose to enjoy the natural red oak coloring so did not stain. The satin finish is beautiful. Has a classic look. An additional vote of confidence is that we plan to hire Anderson Floor Company to tackle our living room area next year (and eventually two bedrooms). Our daughter also plans to invite Anderson for a quote on her flooring. They earned an A+.
Description of Work: Anderson Floor Company sanded, sealed and varnished the red oak flooring in the kitchen, hallways, study and a closet. Floors in the study and half of the kitchen had been installed, stained and finished approximately 15 years earlier by another contractor. The balance of the kitchen and hallways were newly installed (by home owner).

I scheduled an appointment with Jill for the 28th of May at 3:30. On the day of the appointment I got off of work early. The appointment time came and passed so at 4:00 I called and left a message and to this day I still haven't heard back from Jill. I feel that this is very unprofessional and if they didn't have the time to do my job she should have let me know when I called to set up an appointment.

Thanks for the great review and welcome to Wisconsin! We appreciate being of service to you. I am glad that we were able to rearrange our schedule when other contractors fell behind on their work. Thus helping to make your cross country move as seemless as possible so all you had to worry about was moving your furniture onto beautiful hardwood floors!

We came to an agreement with Anderson Floors for them to finish our floors; however, the floor installing company phoned me and told us they found they could do the finishing of the floor they installed. For continuity sake, we changed our mind about going with Anderson, and went with company that installed the oak flooring. Although we did not go with Anderson, I would recommend them highly because the competitive bid for sanding and finishing 560 sq. ft. and for the professionalism Jill Anderson exercized throughout this odyssey. If it weren't for the fact that the installer found dates to accommodate us, we definitely would have had Anderson Floor Company, Inc., do the job. I recommend Anderson Floor Company, Inc. to anyone considering having their floors sanded, sealed (or stained) and finished.
Description of Work: I had oak flooring installed a week ago, and the company I went with, who did an excellent installation, had trouble scheduling the sanding, staining and finishing. As this is a house we are remodeling before we move in, it was important for us to get the finishing part done so we can continue with our schedule. For the sake of brevity, there were extenuating circumstances that messed up the date for finishing by the installer. I called Anderson Floors and Jill Anderson very promptly set a date for those services.

First, all appointments including start and finish dates were on-time and prompt. That's important to me. This is a small family-owned and operated business, which I prefer to support. The people you talk to and work with are the ones who actually do the work. Their communication and professionalism are excellent. The workmanship was very, very good. I'm an amateur woodworker, and am fussy (but realistic) about the end product. They did not disappoint--the floors look great! I'm very pleased with how carefully they sanded without damaging adjoining surfaces. I recently refinished the baseboards and trim, and painted the 4 radiators, and I would have been unhappy if they damaged my work--but they didn't! I definitely recommend Anderson.
Description of Work: I called 3 providers, and Anderson most-impressed me, so we decided to have them sand and refinish our living room, dining room, and front entry halls. Overall they did a great job.

We were contacted by Jill when she received our couponpurchase. She set up a time to come out and explain the whole process, the way they do the resurfacing procedures and the products used. We were given 3 choices for the finish and a packet of information toread over before signing the contract and setting the actual service date. I had untilFebruary to set up the date, and even tho it was cold and snowy at the time, set the date for mid February. The gave me information of what to do prior to their arrival (removing all furniture, wood stripping if there had been prior carpeting...) and also a paper to sign about possible lead in the old hardwod finish which would accur an additional cost if found. Jill called the night before to remind us of their coming at 7:30. They were prompt, friendly and very professional in their work and customer repoire. They worked from 7:30 to 12:30 to remove the oldfinish and sand it down. They also gave us 12 samples of finish so we could pick the color we wanted. Some are quite similar, but they brought in the 2 we picked and showed us how each would look.

I am very dissatisfied with my newly refinished hardwood floor from Anderson Floor Company. It makes me angry! It makes my heart sink every time I look at it. I have waves every 2 inches across the entire middle of my living room floor. Every time I stand in my kitchen in front of my sink and look into the living room I see a 10 foot by 2 foot section of waves going up the middle of the room. The waves can also be seen as I walk into my living room from my kitchen and from all directions entering and exiting the living room. When getting up and down from sitting on my couch. When Jill and Scott arrived to inspect the waves in my floor Jill asked Scott if Josh (the contractor) had done a full sanding. (1) Scott replied that he was not sure and then went on to tell me what they were seeing is normal. Down playing the problem, saying that I only see the waves when I view it in the light. And that it would look better once my furniture is back in the room. (Seeing as it is light all day and there will be no furniture or rug in the middle of my room that means I will see the problem continuously.) Jill and Scott said the reason that this happened was that my floor was loose when their 250 pound machine went across it. They said that the squeaking in the floor was evidence of the boards not being tight and that it couldn't possibly have been the fault of an imbalance of their machine, and that the waviness could not be fixed. The only way would be to sand it by hand. (If having a squeaky floor means the floor is loose and these problems WILL occur, you are the professionals. You should have told me this would happen. They went on to tell me stories of all the crappy jobs that they had done for them in their own lives. Trying to make me feel better about this crappy job I guess. Jill complained about drips and runs on her bedroom furniture from PM bedrooms, how they got burned big time. How it was 10 years and still every time she hears their commercials she has to shut the radio off. Well now I will be doing that because of Anderson floors. I will feel sick and angry every time I see a commercial or tv show with a beautiful wood floor that was refinished the correct way. The difference being that PM Bedrooms took the furniture back and refinished it for Jill the way it was supposed to be in the first place, unlike Anderson floors is doing for me. They wouldn?t even give me a discount. Citing that they already went out of their way to match the color I wanted. (They have a section on their website that says they will custom mix colors for you so you will have a perfect color, then they make you feel like they are going out of their way when you actually ask them for it.) Josh made up samples of mixed stains for me to pick from because we were trying to match my old yellowed floors. We ended up with a custom mix that my husband suggested and then we topped that with an Amber coat that ended up being a pretty close match. I thought it would be easy sailing from that point on, boy was I wrong. After the last coat of sealer dried I could see that we had a very big problem. When Jill made her sales pitch she made me feel by hiring her, she would give me a product that I was fully satisfied with or she would do everything to remedy any problem that would arise. She reassured me over and over again that I would be happy once the job was complete. She even went as far to say her husband would help me find the perfect stain himself. It is a shame that I cannot love this floor. Every time I think about it it makes me sick. I still can not believe that Jill and Scotts answer to my problem is to just live with it. See attached video and photos. The floor looks worse than the video and photo depicts. There are multiple contractors stating that ?the wave? comes from problems with the sanding machine and can be fixed with a machine called ?Trio?. Waves can be caused by something as simple as debris on one of the wheels. See following links. [Removed Web Link] [Removed Web Link] [Removed Web Link] [Removed Web Link] 1.(Because we had Maxcare in 2 weeks earlier to sand and stain the floor. We could not get a good color from them so we called Anderson Floors. We lost our deposit and parted ways) In response to Anderson Floors response Jill is lying about what I said to Josh, trying to paint me a problem customer. There was no "rough start" of any kind. I never said "the other company couldn't make me happy, what makes you think you are any better".... to the contrary, I gave Josh a compliment as you will see if you read on. What actually happened when Josh arrived was I said hello, come on in. After entering the house we found that neither one of us had a record of the color I picked the day Jill gave me her sales pitch. So I asked him if he had his swatches with him. He said yes and the other guy with him showed them to me. They were all a mess with various spilled stains on the samples. It was hard for me to tell the colors of the swatches, or the one that I picked. I told the other guy with him that the swatch that Jill showed me looked like a better match than what I was seeing with their samples. In the mean time Josh called and found out that the color I picked was Cherry. His sample looked redder than what I remembered Jill?s swatch being. I also saw that after he put it on my floor it was too red. Josh started talking about all the different mixes he has done for other people, assuring me he would find the right one for me. I told Josh he sounded like a pro and I told him he was the guy for the job. He proceeded to sand and stain the floor with different colors. None of which were what I wanted, but it was closer than what the last company put down on the floor. I asked him what color he went with for other houses that had older ambered colored wood, he said "something close to it." At this point I was starting to worry, I was expecting him to show me the color he always uses for those houses. Instead, after putting a few stains on the floor, and me still not seeing the color I wanted, I asked about mixing colors. He then suggested water popping to darken the color. He continued laying down 1 part stains until I said, so these are the only stains I have to pick from? He said no, I can mix and match. He had to resand the hallway to get more space. Before long I saw him looking up at me with a blank stare like now what?... quit taking so long lady. So I called my husband who then suggested a mixture to try. If it were not for that we probably would not have found the color we did. And still after that it took the suggestion of adding the amber coat to make it better, which was either Josh or Scotts suggestion. I like the color we ended up with, like I said, the color isn't the issue. I think Jill was doing the responsible thing by re-water popping and sanding the floor again if she thought it was necessary. And I?m glad they put the test coats on 2 x 2 boards instead of resanding my floor repeatedly. They did it that way to save themselves time. The only other option for me to see what the color would actually end up looking like was to water pop the floor, put the mixed stain on the floor, let it dry over night, put a coat of amber coat on, let that dry 2 hrs, put another amber coat on, let that dry 2 hrs and then the last sealer. She acted professional right up until the end when the whole floor was ruined and she took no responsibility for any of it. AGAIN the waves can be seen from every angle in the room with lighting from lamps or sun light. The amount of floor space affected is about a 6 ft wide section across the length of the floor, smack down the middle of the room, not a 2 ft wide section as Jill would like you to believe. Because of the size of the window in the room only a 2 ft area is lit and seen at one time. If a person would move to the left or right and view the floor you could see another 2 ft section next to the first one. And there are waves in the hallway too, which Jill also states don?t exist. See photos. You say your machine didn?t do it. Well I know I didn?t do it. I don?t care if all your other jobs turned out. Mine didn?t. And if MaxCare did it you came in after them to fix it. You did brag about how you were fixing another guys floor that MaxCare had ruined. Some guy with a birch floor. Maxcare supposedly sanded the grain the wrong way. Your loose and squeaky boards excuse does not hold up either. The hallway has the same the waves. I paid the bill because I didn't want to get stuck paying a 10% late fee stated in the contract for this mess of a floor besides what I had already owed. What was my alternative? To not finish the floor, take you to court and have my house torn apart for the next 6 months to a year? I have health issues and do not need this stress. I have other floors in the house that were finished correctly. No tiny bubbles throughout. No waves, no swirls.....they might be old and scratched but a high quality finish was done on them. Unlike the finish that Anderson Floors provided. Buyer beware. Anderson Floors do not guarantee anything. I now know to look for a company that is bonded. I knew they would not guarantee the color, and didn't expect them to. My issue is not with the color. The issue is that they left me with a ruined floor.... a floor covered in sea of waves which covers 70% of the floor not 10% as stated by Jill. Not to mention the waves, a swirl, and bumps in the finish, in the hallway and throughout the entire area. Video of floor can be seen here since Angies list does not support videos. Response from Anderson Floor Co
I was contacted by [removed member name] on October 4th after they were having problems with another flooring contractor with the color of their stain and matching the existing Oak floors that had an old finish on them. We discussed procedures, products and when we were available to do the work. I encouraged Doug to work it out with the other contractor and allow them to make good on the floor before hiring someone else. But a week or so later I was contacted by his wife Wendy who had some questions about the job before she hired us to do the work. We had almost an hour discussion in which Wendy wanted me to "guarantee" that she would not have problems with the color if she hired our company. I told her that we would try to mix stains, perform other procedures that the other company did not offer and that we would do our very best with the products available to us but I was not going to guarantee anything about her floor. We started the job on October 24th and when our long-time employee of 10 years, Josh, came to the door he wasn't greeted in the usual manner. The first thing Wendy said to him was "the other company couldn't make me happy, what makes you think you are any better". However, despite the rough start, we sanded the floor (already sanded and stained by the previous contractor) with an 80 grit of paper, followed by 100 grit of paper and final sanded with the multi-head disc sander (Trio is a brand name) with 120 grit of paper. We then water popped the floor and were ready to apply the color; the floor was now final sanded. Upon arriving the following day to apply the color Wendy had chosen the previous day, she started having second thoughts and wanted to see more samples. Since the floor was ready for stain, we did not want to start re-applying stain colors and have to do our processes all over again, so we suggested make up Oak panels (2'x2') to give samples on using the same sanding procedures as used on her floor. We made up one panel, then made up yet another panel until a color was finally chosen. By that time over a week had passed as she complained to us that she wasn't able to see the color in the sunlight because it had been cloudy for several days in a row. So when she finally decided to have the stain applied, we had never allowed that amount of time to pass after water popping before a stain was applied plus the fact that the floor had been walked on and samples dragged over it. I expressed my concerns to [removed member name] and told her that we would feel more comfortable if we re-sanded the floor and water popped it again. This was completely my suggestion. We then applied the stain the following day and two coats of sealer to try to replicate the "yellow, old" finish in the bedrooms. So now the floor has been sanded with the multi-head disc sander twice and sealer applied. We then get a call from Wendy on November 4th about marks in the floor that she could see. So Scott and I cleared our schedules on November 5th to look at [removed member name] concerns. Upon inspection of her floor, yes she does have "wave" in her floor that affects less than 10% of the floor, not all over the floor. According to the National Wood Flooring Association most waves are caused by one or all of the following: imperfections already present on the floor that are transferred through the wheels of the big machine to the sanding job, wheels on the belt sander that are out of round, improper electrical hookup in the way of too high or too low of voltage delivered to the belt sander or finally, undulation of the floor from inadequate joist design (National Wood Flooring Association publications #C200). In looking that the slight waves in the floor, you can only see them from one direction, cover a small section in the middle of the living room and cannot be felt when running your hand over the floor. We then determined that it was not our machine because we have had successful sanding jobs with that same exact machine before, during and after Wendy's job. That same machine and its operator (Josh) have sanded all of the jobs that previous Angie's List members have been raving about in our work. The machine is less than 10 years old and is serviced on a regular basis to ensure we provide the best sanding job possible. The machine does all of the work, why wouldn't we keep it in tip top condition? Secondly, the 220 electrical source was in the next room, thus no long lengths of cord were needed which could affect the flow of electric to the machine. So that left the other two things stated by the Association as causes, the previous sanding by other contractors and the fact that the floor was loose and squeaky, both of which are not workmanship related. With so little of the floor affected and things that were beyond our control to some extent, we determined that the floor was within industry standards. We explained to Wendy that we stand behind workmanship issues giving example of our own personal experiences of bad service (her mention of PM Bedroom Gallery) and that we do not treat our customers in that way; excuses and cover-up. That conversation was not to justify a bad job, it was to relate to her that we have been in her position as customers and sympathize with her feelings and that we would not give her excuses or not service her needs. But her lack of understanding of the properties of wood, of sanding the wood and of the equipment and how it performs lead her to not believe what we were trying to explain to her. We explained to her that even re-sanding the job at this point would not guarantee that the floor would improve and that there are situations with flooring that we simply cannot control on the job. In our opinion it has something to do with the structure of the home because the small amount of wave only showed up in a two foot section in the middle of the living room, not on the sides, not in the hallway adjacent to the living room. These areas were all sanded using the exact same procedures. We told her that if we felt we could get a better outcome, that we would be the first to recommend re-sanding the floor because that is how we operate our business. But since she was already dealing with this floor situation for over a month at that point, she was frustrated at the prospect of re-sanding with no guarantee of any better of an outcome, so she decided to allow us to put down the final two coats of semigloss finish. We then received a check for payment on November 12th for the job in full. In closing, expectations of a job is very important and we do our best to lay them all out ahead of time. A wood floor is not a polished piece of furniture that has been hand-sanded and hand-rubbed. It will not look perfect like a table top. There are hundreds even thousands of pieces of wood that make up your hardwood floor and to expect every board to be sanded perfectly flat next to the other in a house that is over 60 years old with squeaks all over it is not the reality of things, nor what is acceptable in industry standards. [removed member name] unrealistic expectations with her wood floor somehow translated into our lack of skill and inability to please her; it was our fault. However, we feel that we went very much over and above what any other contractor would have put up with to try to please her. It is unfortunate that this had to happen on her job and it is disheartening to us when we go through all of our procedures and work very hard to give our homeowners the best floor possible. Unfortunately there are certain situations, circumstances and expectations that even a professional cannot rectify. Jill Anderson

What a great job! Everything went smoothly from the bid to the finish of the job. Everyone was polite and treated my home like they would have their own. Workers arrived on time when they were suppose to and cleaned up every day. We had 3 bids for the job, we went with Anderson they were a little more expensive but we felt the products and their quaility and knowledge of the work where worth it. I even called some of the people on their marketing flyer and the people were willing to let me into their homes to show me the quaility of Anderson's work. To me that says ALOT! They also got rid of alot of the squeaks in our floor, a floor that has been there since 1955 and replaced a couple of cracked boards in Kitchen which a different company had put in 3years ago. I will be calling them back for any future work!

I've had many compliments on my floor since Anderson refinished it. The process was done over two days but I asked them to come back another day because they missed a spot in front of a doorway. They came back and took care of it. They also left instructions on the care and cleaning of the floor.

Jill came out on fairly short notice right after I had purchased my house to give me and estimate on refinishing all of the hardwood floors on the first and second floors. The second floor was in good shape, just needed a new finish. The first floor hardwood had been under carpet or linoleum for quite some time, and some of the areas were covered with linoleum residue or thick, red carpet glue. (We had removed all of the carpet, linoleum, tack strips, etc. ourselves, this was not done by Anderson) The price that Jill quoted me was accurate, the only reason the final price ended up being higher was that there was an area that needed to be repaired that was not visible under the carpet glue until it was removed. The crew was polite and professional when I spoke with them, and finished working when they said they would. They were flexible to stay a bit later than normal on the first day of work so that I could pick out stain colors after I got off of work. The work was done very well, and I am very happy with my floors.
Description of Work: Refinished about 1500 square feet of hardwood floors, some of them in bad shape. Repaired 4 areas where boards were missing

Jill Anderson came to our home after calling to say she was running a little late. As long as she called I'm OK with that! Jill clearly knows her stuff and gave me quite an education in her floor care work! We received a quote from another company and are still deciding who to go wtih. This company sure seems extremely reputable and may be worth a bit extra for the peace of mind. One downside: Jill spent about an hour with me explaining everything and I didn't have a quote! She works the numbers at the office and mails a quote. That seems old-fashioned although, in her defense, we received the mailed quote within 2-3 days.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. It was fine. I paid around an additional $100. They were really good.

Gave notice of minor delay ahead of time which was greatly appreciated. Willing to work on stain color with me as the wood was not taking stain well (maple). Professional, courteous employees. Would definitely use again.

It turned out okay. I thought they were good. I thought they did a really wonderful job on the floor. I just thought they were a little expensive. A representative came out and talk to me about my needs and measured the areas. I found out I couldn't afford to get as much done as I wanted to do because the prices were high, I felt. She explained everything. Then they came out and sanded and refinished one bedroom floor for me.
Description of Work: I used a big deal purchase for Anderson Floor Company. The big deal was $391. I think the total was over $800 including the purchase of the big deal.
