European Hardwood Flooring

Started on time, kept us informed throughout and completed job ahead of promised date. Quality was superior to flooring work we had done 10 years ago by another contractor. In one room, we did not want to remove cabinetry. They were able to cut the carpet out around cabinets, fit the flooring tightly and put new trim base molding all around. Excellent work. Real craftsmen.

This took 3 days and we had to be out of the house for the 2nd two days. We were in the house the first day, but maybe should have left since the kitchen was one of the rooms with hardwood flooring so we ended up eating out for any meals requiring cooking even that first day. The new finish looks wonderful and the clean-up was well done. There were a few marks on the walls near the trim boards as some boards were difficult for them to remove, but we will be having the walls painted so this was not an issue at all for us. We would definitely recommend European Hardwood Flooring to anyone needing similar work done.

The project went exactly as Mr. Shalgau (Daniel) described when he submitted his bid. He contorted his schedule so that he could apply the stain when we were out of town and when we came, the project was completed. Daniel and his team are a well oiled machine: efficient, always on time, kind and sterling craftsmen and they were always friendly PLUS they cleaned up at end of each day and minimized the dust from all of the demo and construction. Daniel coordinated the work with the second contractor who put in the railings, moldings, etc. A week after the project, he stopped by our home to deliver a fl Wood floor cleaning system and thanked us again for allowing him to work for us. He is not obsequious, just a really nice guy who aims to do the best job that he can. Everything was perfect and was completed on time with nary a glitch.

They did an amazing job. There was a section of flooring that had linoleum tile from a previous remodel and they laced in brand new red oak into the old oak. It is completely seamless and I can't tell the difference between the old and new wood. They also repaired water damage to another section at no additional cost. The floors were stained with a Nutmeg color and they look incredible. Many of the my neighbors have used him before and have loved the end result as well. Approx 750 sq ft of existing HW floors. 12 stairs, 13 risers. Laced in 25 sq ft of new Red Oak.

There's a reason this company has such great reviews here on Angie's List. They are fantastic. The owner, Daniel Shalgau, is an incredibly nice, responsive and conscientious person. I called him right after we closed on our new house here. We had been recommended his company by our real estate agent, plus I'd seen all the great reviews his company had received here on Angie's list. We only had a limited amount of time in temporary housing and were eager to get our floors finished as quickly as possible so that we could move into the new house. Daniel called me back right after I contacted him, and met me soon after that to look at the job. He gave me an estimate the very next day and said he'd be able to accommodate my schedule. It was a big job- replacing around 2,000 sq ft of flooring, but he got it done right on time. The floors look absolutely amazing. We cannot believe how much it changed the look of the house to have the old floors pulled up and to have them replaced with these beautiful hardwood floors. If you're thinking of having hardwood installed, call Daniel. You will not regret your decision!

Short story: It went great. We love our new hardwood floors. They were done on time and on budget. They also accomodated some of the changes we made along the way and worked extra time to meet our tight timeline. Long story: We had just bought the house and planned our move in date for 3 weeks after we took possession of the house. We asked Daniel (the owner) to work with our schedule to make sure that the hardwoods are done before we move in. The painters were also working simultaneously on the house at the same time so Daniel had to coordinate with other contractors as well. This was the second time we hired European Hardwood Floors so we chose to not get other bids this time. They still gave us a very competitive price (similar rates to what they gave us several years ago, which was great compared to competition at the time). On the start date of our job, the crew came in on time. We were pleasantly surprised to find that it was the same crew that worked on our previous house a few years earlier. They did a very good job taking the baseboards off and sanding the floor. Some areas of the floor had moisture which uncovered that we have a leak from one of the patio doors and in one of the toilets. After the leaks were fixed (by other contractors), new hardwoods were installed in place of the stained ones. New hardwood was also installed in places where we had carpet and the new hardwood was laced perfectly with the old hardwood. You really can't tell the difference. Everything was sanded after that and we started picking colors. The crew applied a few color samples to the floor in 2x2 areas. We picked a color we liked and had the whole floor stained. Unfortunately, we did not like the color on the whole floor. Daniel was very nice to work with us on this. He let us pick a different color and had his crew re-sand the whole floor again and apply the new stain for us. He only charged us a minimal price for the re-sanding (at cost for him, I believe) because we were his repeat customers. We really appreciated this. This took an additional couple of days to re-sand and refinish so he modified the schedule with the painters to try to regain back the lost time, which they did. They also installed the new hardwood on the stairs after that and made it all match up. When the job was done, everything was cleaned up and was looking great. They hauled away all the debris and old carpet. A few days later, I remembered that I forgot to tell them to come back and sand an area where they had applied the test colors (in a part of the house that we are not finishing yet) and Daniel came back himself that evening to do the sanding by himself so he doesn't keep us waiting. Ultimately, the floors look great and we love the new color. European Hardwood Floors did a great job. We have a new addition to our house planned. Once we have that built, we'll definitely bring them again to add hardwoods there. p.s. we are attaching pictures to both our new house (work done May 2014) and our old house (work done sometime in 2010 or 2011).

This company is THE BEST! The business owner, Daniel Shalgau, responded immediately to my phone call and came the next day to take a look at the project space. He gave us several options. We were trying to match damaged flooring and couldn't find an exact match, but he referred us to Contract Furniture Mart in Redmond who were very helpful and had a great selection. They gave us about $1/sq foot discount from their retail price to do the work through European Hardwood Flooring. From start to finish, this was an expert, professional job. Daniel's crew were excellent: friendly, hardworking and efficient, as well as creative with an unanticipated situation (covering previously carpeted stairs that connected two rooms). They did the job in less than five full working days and responded immediately to a couple of questions we had about some details. Honestly, we not only have no complaints, but we would gladly recommend this company to anyone. They were what makes Angie's List a great place to connect contractors with homeowners. (The price listed above was for the labor. We paid for the wood separately.)

I have no hesitation at all in highly recommending European Hardwood Floors. Daniel is such a nice and responsive guy - and he employs good, hardworking people. His two guys showed up when he said they would and the whole job was finished on time - something that doesn't happen very often in the contracting world. He even put an extra guy on the job for one day just to be sure that the job would be finished when he said it would be. His employees were courteous, diligent, professional, and cleaned up afterwards each day. They were clearly interested in doing a good job and making us happy. The stair job was especially difficult, but Nehemiah did a fantastic job, taking great care at every step of the process, making repairs to the old tread supports, carefully measuring every cut precisely so that no gaps would show on the sides, etc., and the results are beautiful, level, solid stairs that look so much better than the old carpet that was there. He has a passion for doing stairs right. Absolutely no more creaks when going up and down the stairs. I was very impressed with the quality of the work preformed as well as the professionalism of the service. This job required coordination of services with another contractor. While I am sure this made the job more complex, they worked out a time schedule which both service providers followed. I would highly recommend European Hardwood Flooring to anyone looking for quality hardwood flooring.

Daniel was great to work with! We had just closed on our home and were living in corporate housing. We wanted the floors done in a timely manner so we could move out of corporate housing as soon as possible. When I called Daniel, he was able to meet me the next day to give me an estimate (Thursday). When I decided to go with him, he said the wood could be delivered on Friday to acclimate. His crew started work on the following Wednesday and finished in one week. We had hardwood floors in the kitchen and entry already, and I asked them to match the wood to the best of their ability. They did an amazing job with lining up the wood with the existing wood floors, staining it, and putting a final coat over everything. You can barely tell that the floors were from two separate installations. Daniel was always available when I called him and really took the time to observe the work and make sure things were done properly. His price was very reasonable compared to another quote I received and I am extremely pleased with the work. Thank you again for everything, Daniel!

Daniel and his crew were fantastic. They were very polite and accommodating to our schedule and needs. They were very clean and careful not to damage any of our other items in the vicinity. We even game them a key to our house, and they completed the work while we went on a 9 day vacation. When we returned we had perfectly finished floors that were just like new. After getting bids from four companies to refinish my hardwood floors, I choose European Hardwood Flooring. The estimator, Daniel, showed up on time, got the estimate to me within 24 hours and seemed very knowledgable about the job. Their price was very good for the work to be done which was refinishing 60% of my house. Daniel explained what I needed to do before the start date and was always available for my many questions. They did a beautiful job and took care to protect my home from the dust. They finished the job today and took the time to answer all my questions regarding the care of the floor. I would definitely recommend European Hardwood Flooring to my family and friends.

We were contacted by Daniel and we made an appointment on Saturday for an estimate. He left and emailed the estimate for the job. We were impressed because he saw where our old dog had a problem with incontinence which other companies did not see. We also requested a certain week to start the work which he accommodated. Daniel answered emails over the weekend and was incredible responsive to qll our questions. They came on this past Monday and his crew sanded, stained and sealed our oak floors with swedish finish and they look fantastic.

Probably my interior designer that referred me to this company over solid what an artist and perfectionist Daniel was in installation. Daniel provided the estimate and pointed out on the existing floor a "shortcut" that he would not do. Good first impression. When floor was installed -- no Daniel. I should had included in contract that he would be part of installation. Installation quality was acceptable but not excellent. For example, the shortcut he pointed out during the quote visit was the same way his team installed the new floor. I was disappointed they did not remove the baseboard as we talked about during estimate. They only removed the quarter-round molding, which I understand is a pretty common shortcut, but I would have liked baseboards removed so that quarter-rounds did not need to be reinstalled to cover gaps between end of wood and baseboard. Perhaps, when I said "baseboard" during quote, he thought I meant the "quarter-rounds". Recommend you get it in writing in estimate if you want baseboards removed and not merely the quarter-round. Overall, fine not excellent.

All the work was done professionally and the outcome was fantastic. They can accommodate any scheduling challenges as well. I definitely recommend them.

This is a referral job. The home owner is my neighbor and a good family friend. They were impressed by the quality of the work Daniel did in my home a couple of years ago, which I have previously reviewed with an A rating on Angie's list. So by this time when they were ready to start a home remodeling project, they asked for Daniel's company to help out. They were not disappointed. The quality of the work, from the material till the finish, was top notch. A great deal of attention was paid to the detail so the new floor blended seamlessly with the existing area. All the trim which had had to be removed for the project was put back with careful touch. In the end, my neighbor told me that this was the most enjoyable home remodeling experience for them, in terms of price, craftsmanship and professionalism of the crew, and how quickly and cleanly it was done.

I highly recommend this company. The crew did a wonderful job. Each time they came, they arrived on time, worked diligently and efficiently, protected the work areas, carefully did excellent work, and then cleaned up very well. They were pleasant and professional. Every step of the way, I felt confident that they would do what was promised. Mr. Shalgau did an excellent job communicating with me as needed, and he quickly responded to my questions. At a few points, I had to delay completion of the project, and Mr. Shalgau kindly changed the work dates to help me, I plan to use this company when I want to do other flooring work in my home. Daniel's crew removed existing carpeting and baseboards from living/dining area and master bedroom (all on first floor) and installed engineered hardwood flooring and new baseboards. Total square footage about 600. They also fixed a couple squeaky sub-floor problems. The crew did a great job and I'm very happy with the results. Additionally, Daniel is very easy to work with and clearly wants his customers to be happy. I really appreciated always being able to get ahold of Daniel if needed. He usually answered his phone, and if I had to leave a message he always promptly returned my call. Sadly, that's not always the case with many contractors. I would not hesitate to recommend European Hardwood Flooring. Stated cost of service is labor only.

Daniel's employees were on site promptly when he said they would be. They were professional, friendly and did an excellent job installing the flooring. They did a nice job on several places that needed extra attention; such as one small area where the floor had to be installed over concrete. the guys cleaned up well when the finished.We had oak with Swedish finish applied and are very happy with it.

They did an absolutely AMAZING job!!! I couldn't be happier with the entire project, from the minute Daniel returned my call inquiring about getting the floors done, to the final step when I moved back in and saw the completed floors. The experience was fantastic. First of all, Daniel called me back immediately, we set a time for him to come to my home to measure so that he could prepare an estimate, and he actually showed up when he said he would! I couldn't believe how many other people simply didn't return my calls, or returned them days or weeks later, and then didn't show up for an appointment time. Daniel is different - he is so nice to deal with, very honest, extremely professional and customer focused. He responded promptly to any questions I had along the way, no matter how many I had. The two guys that did the floor installation were absolutely delightful as well. Everytime I stopped by to see how it was going, they took time to explain what they were doing, to answer questions, and to just share a laugh or two (especially about the yucky carpet they removed from my house)! They were so polite and kind and really cared about doing quality work. They were also very patient with a little barking dog who stayed upstairs during the first part of the week of installation. I was a bit nervous going into the project, not having done this type of thing before, but Daniel and his team really made it easy. His bid was extremely fair and honest. I would recommend him to ANYONE and EVERYONE! And I promised him when I am ready to do the rest of my house, I will call him. And he will be the only one I call. The floors look astonishingly beautiful. When I get home from work, I can't believe I'm in the same house. Thank you Daniel!!! You are the BEST.

I have a 1939 house that has original Red Oak hardwood floors on the main floor, and combination Red Oak/Fir hardwoods on the stairs from the main floor to the basement. Neither of these had been refinished since initial installation, and were in pretty bad shape. Daniel was very responsive, and came in with a great quote. Had other quotes to simply install new "OVER TOP" of the existing floor which was almost 50% more. After talking to Daniel about the options, and reading the wonderful reviews here on Angies, I decided to let Daniel and his team go to work. They quoted me 1 week to complete the job, and they were done right on time. The team took the time time to do it right, they showed up when they said they would, they moved furniture, masked off rooms to minimize dust, and cleaned up after themselves each day and especially after the end of the job. The team worked hard - spent over 9 hours one day simply sanding the stairs...they look wonderful! The floors upstairs are like new. I couldn't be happier! The extra effort was noticed at the end of job. I have some fairly heavy/bulky furniture that needed to be move back into place. Daniels' team came out on their Saturday as a special trip to help me move the furniture back. Now I know why European Hardwood Floors have such a great following - they aren't doing magic. Simply, they don't over promise, but certainly over deliver and they are very skilled at their job. I couldn't recommend them higher... these guys are great!!!

We were very pleased with the results. They finished in exactly the time they said they would. We did a customer color and we were very pleased with how that turned out. We also felt the quality of the materials was high. There was one issue - the crawlspace door was sealed shut (we put hardwoods in the closet were there also had been carpet) due to the finish drying. We let Daniel know and he returned and unsealed it and put a handle on the crawlspace access. We felt he was very responsive when we pointed this out although it was relatively minor relative to the size of the job. The big picture was we felt they did very high quality work. I think they may have slightly underbid the job but he stuck with his initial quote. Overall we would highly recommend without reservation.

We knew we wanted new hardwood flooring for this 80s style house that needed updating. I called Daniel because he had such great reviews on Angie's List. He suggested I look at floor samples with a distributor he works with and we decided on 3 1/2" acacia wood flooring that was prefinished. Daniel ordered the wood several days in advance so it could acclimate to the house and they arrived to start removing the old 2 3/4" red oak and carpet. Then they started installing the new flooring with great detail. The house we bought had a half height railing in both the entry and separating the dining room from the living room. We did not want that back so he removed it and put nosing along the edge which looks beautiful. Once the downstairs was complete, they moved upstairs and did all the bedrooms with the stairs last. We wanted matching wood risers so there would be no scuff marks and it looks beautiful. We were going to put the old stair rails back when Daniel introduced us to a carpenter that did an absolutely beautiful job installing new posts and railing that changes the whole look and we;ll stain the posts to match. When we were seeking bids for the floors, some seemed intimidated by the stairs. Daniel had no concerns and was fully confident about doing them. We are thrilled with the new floors and with the beautiful job Daniel and his crew did. We recommend Daniel highly.
