Excellent, see above.
Description of Work: They came to our house and did the Big Deal Energy audit (my previous review). We were sufficiently impressed that we subsequently contracted with them to insulate our entire house (walls, attic, weatherstrip doors). They were 'on time and on budget and we were very pleased with the results. Pleasant to deal with. A little pricey, but in this business, you get what you pay for (if you are lucky). AFTER the insulation job was finished, we had a failure of weatherstripping of a basement door (it was old, not their fault). We called them and they arranged to come over, size the job/door, and then they fixed the problem. They drove up from Tacoma to north Seattle to do this. I would use them again - and recommend them to friends (they are working on our neighbor's house, as we speak). A first rate company.

Did not bring proper equipment first day and had to reschedule. When product was installed, provided no paper work about product or warranty until I asked for it and then it took several requests on my part to get it and I still don't think I have all the information I should. Guys that did work were very pleasant and helpful and voluntarily did some minor roof repairs.

Econinsulate's workmanship was excellent. They knew what they were doing and did it well. They were pleasant and knowedgeable. Their prices were excellent. I'd hire them, again. They'd get a "D" for communication rather than the "C", but part of the problem came from our end, since our voicemail is unreliable. They stood me up on the first appointment --- couldn't find the house and left just one voice mail that I did not get. I called, leaving voice mails, and emailed, but did not hear back for days. They muttered something about their phone/communication system. When they finally made it out here, they were great! They are people who really care about energy efficiency, their employees and their customers. They went the extra mile, insulating pipes, etc. I surely hope their communications are now working.

I purchased the Angie's List big deal for insulation in my walls and attic. I have a 1929 brick tudor with lathe and plaster, so I called first to make sure they could accomodate this. They were very helpful and explained how the process worked with a brick home, and that not many companies in the PNW did this. The representative that gave me the estimate was late, so I called and learned there was a mix up in the time. He came as soon as he could and finished early. The workmen arrived on time, were very polite and professional, and cleaned up after themselves. I can already feel the difference and look forward to comparing my heating bills next winter to the year before. Ecoinsulate deducted the expected rebate from Puget Sound Energy directly from my total and will complete all the paperwork for the rebate - that's very nice!

This is a very good company where the owners are active in what in their work. They did an excellent job in sealing the existing duct work and then re-wrapped existing insulation and they did another great job in reinstalling existing insulation that was sagging underneath the house by nailing lathe slats. They showed up at 10am with two trucks and five men and went about their work in a professional manner. I would use them again. The only improvements might be in some of the clean up details. They were to clean up the vapor barrier and did but not as thoroughly as I might have. I also found vent ducts that had no insulation originally and they were unprepared to wrap these both because of the stock they had on hand and the cost. Neither of these issues were significant. As I said they would have been an improvement. I was still very happy with the work and professionalism as I was with what it costs. They are a good group of guys and I'm sure they'll build their company.
Description of Work: Add some blown insulation in the attic, seal all heating duct work and reinsulate and nail lathes to better hold insulation in place under the house.

We bought a Big Deal - $149 for $500 worth of insulation. What we wanted was for them to fill in the attic areas over our 2700-sq. ft. rambler where insulation had settled. We assumed that would not use up all of the $500 load. So, we wanted them to use up any extra in our insulated attic space over a 3-car garage. They were prompt in scheduling the work and arrived on time. As they looked over the job, they went up into the attic and used measuring sticks to measure the depth of the insulation in many areas of the attic. Since the house is 16 years old, we found that the insulation is not up to current code in any of the attic spaces. So we asked them to provide enough insulation to bring the house attic insulation up to code as well as to provide full insulation over the garage. That resulted in an additional cost of $766. We have a big house and we often encounter this kind of thing - extra charges due to the size of the house. They were thorough and we were quite satisfied with the work.
Description of Work: They increased the blow-in insulation to fill in the areas where insulation had settled or where it was inadequate. They also provided blow-in insulation to an uninsulated area over our 3-car garage.

I purchased the Big Deal on Friday 2/10 and was contacted that night by Brett Johnson asking if he could come over between 1:30 and 2pm the next day, Saturday 2/11. I noted I had plans in the afternoon and that if it was just an evaluation that was fine but I wanted to be out by 2pm. I proceeded to wait with no follow up that afternoon, I called Brett 3 times and left a message 2 times? finally after the last message he returned my call at 2:30 to tell me he was finally on his way? but was still on 167 in Pacific, WA easily 30 minutes away yet from where I live in Kent. This was a classic case of poor customer service, not following up with your customer and not RESPECTING your customer?s time. Shame on Angie?s List for soliciting a deal from this company without a more thorough evaluation of their service? I will be requesting my money back on this deal and will NOT recommend this company to the hundreds of people I interact with on a daily basis. There too is a customer service lesson for this company. In response to the string of excuses spewed by this company in their response... YOU'LL NOTICE THAT I SAID BRETT JOHNSON ASKED ME IF HE COULD COME OVER ON SATURDAY, NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND. If Brett wishes to dispute this, I will gladly serve up the email string that clearly indicates this FACT. What I didn't list earlier and Brett did note in his response, was that I did not call them back on Monday. To also be noted however, as a sign of goodwill someone from the company could have reached out to apologize again on Monday... but much like their earlier lackluster efforts... they did not... until they wanted to offer up excuses as to their screw up... still no genuine apology for THEIR MISTAKE. Here are the indisputable facts... if you are looking to hire this company, as of this entry, they have 4 grades (2-A & 2-F) that is a C average at best... if you want a C average company doing your work, then by all means hire this company. if you are looking for something more... then my opinion is to move along. Until this company and its employees understand what customer service means, they don't deserve your hard earned money.

You'll notice on the Big Deal that it does say "during normal work hours." We go out of our way to accommodate each customer and obviously it doesn't always go as planned. You'll also notice in the Big Deal that the customer is responsible for contacting to redeem the coupon and given this customer's level of frustration we opted to let them contact us the next time to prevent a situation like this from occurring again. Sorry for your unpleasant experience to start but we'd love the opportunity to show you why we're the best insulation company on Angie's list.

Are you tired of wearing a coat and hat INSIDE your house? After 12 years in a 1905 house we sure were. Kris from EcoInsulate came over with his fancy wall heat scanner and we went room to room seeing what we had assumed... there was very little insulation in our old craftsman. He was really good about giving a technical explanation of what we were seeing and then dumbing it down so that a non-thermo dymanics guy like me could understand it. We also went up in the attic and he explained how proper venting works (we didn't have it) (spoiler alert - it helps keep the house warmer in the Winter, cooler in the Summer, and your roof lasts longer - who knew?) We've put this off for years because the house exterior has multiple original siding types and we didn't want to look at 100's of little round holes around the house. Kris explained that they remove the cedar shingles, drill-n-fill, and then put the original shingle back on. Other than the caulk to refill some holes (much appreciated), you can't tell the work was done from the outside. The crew showed up on time every day, were really friendly and left the worksite clean and tidy afterwards. As mentioned, it's a 1905 house, and the top floor had the last bit of original wiring. The insulation guys were great about removing the little amount of attic insulation so electricians had ease of access to do the final wiring remediation. They also were great to coordinate with each other so that the elecricians got the exterior electrical outlets rewired before the wall was filled with insulation. THE RESULT - We don't have to listen to the furnace running all day. The house stays warm throughout and we don't wear coats inside. If you are thinking about doing this at least get them to come with the thermal gun and show you what you have, or don't have, in your walls. Thanks Kris!!!

Our experience started out very poor. It took over a week and a half to even have someone from the company to contact us after we paid for the service online. I also asked for a document providing the specs for the solar roof fan and never received them. When the employee cut the hole in our roof to install the solar roof fan he cut a roof joist. The hole could have easily been cut between the roof supports. The owner did repair the cut roof joist and admitted they should have never created this damage. We requested a discount and some money back for the damage done and were told we would not get a discount. I will not use this company again. The owner is young and does not have the qualified help he needs to do professional work.

This customer's experience was the exception and not the rule. He is correct that we are a young company, but our employees exceed the standard found in just about every other insulation company around. That being said, we're still human and subject to mistake from time to time. In particular this project was part of our first experience working with angie's list in the midst of our normal sales volume almost tripling and we found ourselves ill prepared but adapted quickly. A frustrated and or disappointed customer is not part of "the eco experience." Trained, professional, prompt, enjoyable are what we aim to leave our customers feeling post project. On this project a step was missed spotting the placement of the solar roof fan. The fan ended up saddling a rafter, which isn't desired, but doesn't degrade the performance or effectiveness of the fan. Upon further inspection the customer's cited "damage" was nothing more than a 1/16" deep scratch from the saw blade. Again, certainly not preferred but does NOT effect ANY of the rest of the building, or new ventilation. We used this instance to review with our installers all of the steps involved in proper ventilation installation and have had nothing but success since and we deeply regret this customer's unsatisfied feeling in dealing with ecoinsulate Northwest LLC.
