When I called they were responsive and could deliver propane earlier than other companies. Their price per gal was higher than others but I needed it to meet my contractor’s schedule. After the delivery of tank I received an invoice for delivery, and another one later with higher price. When I contested they threatened to take the tank back. I had to pay so my contractor could use it. How the conflict was handled was less than professional.

From the start, they fouled up every single aspect of the relationship. The agreement was incorrectly interpreted at the home office so that I was sent a bill for the rental of a tank plus propane. It took me almost a year to unwind this due to numerous uninformed personnel. It was a nightmare...each month receiving the same demand for payment from an improperly prepared invoice. The original salesperson did nothing to help me and not a single employee showed even a modicum of respect for me as a customer. The only appointment kept for the agreed time was the very first, after that no one came when they said they would. One of their Eastside distribution hubs is very near my house, but the opportunity cost to work with them is astronomical. I never detected a single business practice that signaled their interest in running a profitable enterprise. Stay far, far away from Suburban.
Description of Work: I engaged this company to fill a purchased tank.

Not a good company - if yo dial this number by mistake - run for the hills!
Description of Work: A final end with Suburban Propane. I have my own tanks and am out of contract with them. They came and picked up their leased tanks - took them approx 2 weeks. one tank at 10% the other at 40%. Then I get a pick up bill! 90.00 plus sales tax. I called and the gal only wished to argue that she told me their was a charge. They will not pay you for any unused propane but they did chaege me in the beginning when the delivered with 10% in each tank. They will sell the 40% wiich gets them 100% profit. I asked to speask with a manager but the gal would only say she would speak to the manager and get back with me! Never got back - hence this writing.... I can not stress enough Stay clear of Suburban at all costs. Call 10 other companies and compare. I like using propane - and I am in my reitrement home for the next 35 years I hope - Suburban will never get another dime out of my pocket.

They have actually come out on Christmas Eve before. They do a great job with repairs. I think they're just terrific. They offer a locked-in payment plan for the year, which is helpful.
Description of Work: I have been using their services for 22 years. I have used them for an older range to a sophisticated chef's oven.

After much frustration and many calls direct to Suburban and with six months left on the current lease, I found it cost effective to purchase my own tanks. With owning my own tanks, I can shop price and have who I wish to fill them knowing the price before delivery. Breaking the lease cost 250.00. With 200 gallon fill ups, I will save 500.00 the very first time. Two additonal fill ups will save me more then I spent to have the tanks swapped out freeing me of all obligations to suburban propane. I recommend anyone wishing to use propane to purchase their tanks from the start. Even if your only in your home for 3 to 5 years, the saving is large. If you do wish to lease your tanks, shop around, Most other propane companies do not charge the 250.00 fro breaking a lease for above ground tanks. Most other companies will credit you back for any unused propane and Suburban will not. What ever fuel is left in their tanks, they take and resell to the next victim. I beleieve what Suburban Propane has missed is I am in my retirement home and intend being there for the next 35 plus years. I have gathers a list of all propane companies to call for fill ups so I can shop prices. Suburban Propnae is not on this list. Based on the experience, even if Suburban Propane is .10 cheaper per gallon, I will shop with a company that has better ethics, customer service and are willing to work with a customer rather then gouge them for the days inflated profit.
Description of Work: Industry standard is if you lease tanks from a company, only that company can fill their equipment. This was fully understood at time of leasing two tanks from Suburban Propane. The initial cost for propane was 1.85 per gallon September 2009. This most likely was an introductory price for a new customer. The second fill December 2009 was 2.54 per gallon. Seemed reasonable. Two and a half years into the contract, Suburban is charging 5.08 per gallon. Junaury 2012, I called 5 other local propane companies, their retail price (not introductory) was from 2.09 per gallon to 2.55 per gallon. I called to suburban and ask them how much to fill customer owned tanks and the price quoted was 2.46 per gallon. A BBB comnplaint does not seem to deter suburban. A formal complaint to the Washington State Attourney General comes back with "Propane is not regualted and nothing can be done, Suburban can charge whatever they wish." Some research show Suburban has been sued for this very same thing in New Jersey. Results of the suit are not readily available for public disclosure.

Propane prices are not regulated so you can get dinged if you're not careful. Suburban Propane is the worst. Horribly high prices and bad customer service. My tank float malfunctioned and they wouldn't fix it after numerous requests. I could never tell how much propane was in the tank - the less you get the more you pay. Coincidence? Plus, I was forced to use them because I leased their tanks - what a joke!I I canceled my auto-fill service the driver kept showing up. Why? He said he didn't care because he was paid by the hour. That gave me some insight on how this company is run. I FINALLY got wise and called around for pricing - Suburban was incredibly more expensive other companies!!! I can't believe the money I wasted. Stay away from Suburban Propane!

When confronted with this price difference, Suburban offered $3.99 per gal which we refused. We requested by letter that they stop further deliveries and remove their tank. We sent them partial payment (approximately half of their bill) on March 24th and request a new statement.
Description of Work: Propane delivered to our home Feb. 17, 2008 was billed to us at $4.3540 per gal while competitors on this date were charging $2.76 per gal (Northern Energy & Pacer). Suburban is gouging this long time customer since 1992.

The absolute worst customer service ever from anyone. Once, it took them two weeks to respond to our report of a gas leak!!! I tried for three years to get them to maintain or replace their worn tanks (ones that we were charged a yearly 'rental' fee on) to no avail. Our last attempt, they requested that we try again during the summer when they weren't as busy-what a laugh since I called weekly during the months of May, June, July, and August during the summer of 2007. Each time I called, the receptionist informed me that she would "..put me on the list" for service and I would receive a call back soon. Never got a call back. We finally gave up and asked for one last delivery and the driver refused. We had to find that out a week later by calling and asking when the delivery would occur. We have finally switched to a new propane company but I would guess it will be years before we can get Suburban to remove their worn out tanks.
Description of Work: When we moved into our home we signed a contract with Suburban Propane for gas delivery for two 500 gallon tanks. The tanks were there from the prior owners and were in disrepair. From the start, the company did not follow the contract we filled out for service (delivering fuel when we had not requested it, not delivering it when we did request it), nor did they respond to requests for upkeep/replacement of the worn tanks.
