Great experience working with Tony and the guys from Three Guys Concrete. Due to my indecision and poor planning I had work that needed to get done on short notice. Amazingly the job was done in less than 24hours from when i called Tony. After calling and leaving messages for a number of concrete contractors I was surprised that Tony both answered his phone and could stop by and take a look at the job right away. It was a small job and he had another customer that was delaying some work. The guys started at 9am the next morning and got right down to business. The new section of concrete looks great and the work area was left cleaner than it was when they got there. I highly recommend them.

Scheduled an appointment and Tony called to cancel even though I made time in my schedule to accomodate him. Good for Tony, bad for me. I asked about coming out early in the day so I wouldn't have to go into work late and he said "what do you mean? how early?" I'm thinking, the guy doesn't want my business and there's other people out there who want work. Oh, well at least I didn't actually do business with them.

Tony came by immediately after I had called and gave me an estimate. I told him my budget and they stayed under it. They resurfaced the pathway approx 8ft x 22ft , the steps and built a lip to stop water drainage. Some days later they returned to spray the color on . The crew were professional and did a good job. When pots were not replaced and some areas were not done to my satisfaction there was no problem at all. They just returned and fixed the problem. They noticed a crack before I did on the side concrete and returned to fix it and clean up. I am really pleased with the results and would definitely use them again.

Very positive experience from beginning contact and estimate to cleanup. Everyone was very professional. Tony did the estimate, helped us plan the job, got the permit and kept up informed. The guys on the job worked hard and were pleasant to deal with. The work was completed without harming any nearby plants which wasn't easy to do. Finally, after the work was finished they replaced the brick wall they'd removed and did a great job cleaning up. They completed the job on schedule and came bright and early every day and gave a full day of work. Wish everyone took pride in their work and did it as well as these guys did. We were very pleased and highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Replaced driveway and sidewalk. Old driveway was in very bad condition and practically unusable due to nearby tree that we removed prior to their work. They demolished and removed the old driveway, adjoining sidewalk and tree roots. They also temporarily removed adjoining brick wall.

Overall very good. Same day estimate. The crew started and completed the work on time and within budget. Owner (Tony) supervised work as needed and was responsive to my concerns. Workers were highly skilled and courteous. Finished product is excellent. My detailed design was followed. Workers went above and beyond to relocate an outdoor light fixture. Highly recommended.

Men started the next day after giving me the bid, in order to take advantage of the good October weather. They were prompt and pleasant to deal with. It appears that the job was done reasonably well and the majority of work was done within two days. There was a certain element of sloppiness, however. 1). The men poured their remaining concrete over the pile of remnants, making a bit of a mess. 2). They forgot to come back and remove the framing until I called them one week later. 3). When the cement was sprayed, it covered the laser eyes of my garage door opener, eventually resulting in the need to get a repairman out for servicing. 4). Large nails were left on the garage floor.
Description of Work: -Broke up portions of a cement walkway and patio that had been lifted by trees. Piled remnants so I could use later. -Repaired and evened out three sections of walkway that were uneven. -Removed cement on a small entrance/driveway and repoured it. Piled remnants for me to utilize later.

This was one of the best contracting projects ever. Based on Angie's List feedback, I requested an estimate from Tony, who was able to come out the next day (Friday). He sent a bid the following day, and was able to start on Monday. He understood exactly what I wanted and added little touches that made it even better, such as two curved sections of patterned concrete in the middle of the aggregate driveway. He has an electrician on staff who was able to relocate a pathway light that was within the replaced area. We had two bad weather days, but even so the job was finished in a week. It looks absolutely beautiful, is getting rave reviews from jealous neighbors... and I no longer will have to weed my driveway! Great experience, would highly recommend.

Tony came to the house on Saturday prior to the start and remeasured the walkway and patio, he confirmed what i wanted and told me when his crew would start along with a 3 day accomplishment commitment. They were finishing another job and said they might be a little late but this translated to 1 man showing up late on monday and accomplishing little, when they do show up with an entire crew they work hard and fast and make sure your property is clean. The job ended up taking 6 work days but came out looking exactly the way I wanted it. As long as the job doesn't have a hard completion date these guys are real good to work with.
Description of Work: They removed old pavers and installed a walkway & expanded the patio.

Well, I think I already did this above. But now I come to the negative part. Before the plastic came off, there had been rain over the weekend. I noticed that the plastic had blown about somewhat and water had collected here and there. With the plastic off, I saw streaks randomly running down the concrete and assumed that this was moisture that had accumulated under the tarp and that it would soon dry out and the concrete would be a uniform shade. Now it is close to 2 months later and the streaks are still there. But my biggest concern is that it never occurred to me that concrete came in different shades. The new driveway is a significantly lighter shade than the street it abuts, and the old part of the driveway that did not need replacing. But, like the streaks, I thought it needed a while to "temper" or something and then it would match. After 3 weeks, I called Mr. Puloka and asked him to come and look at it. He said that as the years passed, the streaks and the pale color would eventually not be so noticeable. I told him that people in their 70s and 80s were not interested in waiting "years" for their driveway to look okay. When I asked about the color of the concrete--and that I had since found out that it was a simple matter to alter the color before it is poured--he said they don't typically worry about matching the color for driveways. He did suggest that both problems (streaks & color) could be improved if they came and pressure washed the driveway and then applied a stain. However, this would cost us $900 (which he said was a good deal because he would be making no profit on the work). This is what I think: the streaks were caused by the company, not by me. Why should I pay for pressure washing them? As for the failure to match the color, I guess I could blame myself for not asking about this initially. But I know nothing about buying concrete. I just thought it was gray! I think a real concrete professional would have mentioned this himself. I told him that I didn't think it was fair that we should bear the cost of this remedy but he was firm. He said the work could be done in a few days but I told him that I wanted to think about it. He was aware that I had found him through Angie's List and that I had--too hastily--written a ravingly positive report right after the job was done. Back in the day when I thought it would look great after it dried out.
Description of Work: My old driveway had buckled in the middle, with cracks in other places. This was due to roots from an adjacent Giant Sequoia tree. It was getting progressively worse (we have lived here for 23 years) and I was having trouble backing my car out over the bump. Also, my husband is in his 80s, I'm in my 70s, and I was concerned about tripping, by us or by others. I joined Angie's list in order to locate a concrete contractor. This company was the first I called; Mr. Puloka responded promptly, came to my house, gave me an estimate, and because he did seem knowledgeable and professional, I accepted his offer. I was also pleased that the work could be done within the following week. The work was done on schedule and involved the old driveway being torn out, and the exposed roots were cut out. The following day forms were put in place and concrete was poured. The workers seemed very experienced and skillful. Mr. Puloka returned for a short time at the end of each day to check on the work. At the end of the second day, I gave him a check for the amount I owed. Before leaving, heavy plastic tarps were stretched over the driveway, secured on the edges by concrete blocks and wood. I was told that they would return on Monday (this was a Friday) to remove the plastic. I was not to drive on it until the following Wednesday. Which I didn't.

Tony came out to provide a bid promptly and was very curteous and professional. He quickly provided a bid by email. We scheduled work to begin about 10 days after accepting the bid. When work began we discovered that the original builders had poured the concrete directly over the wiring for the post lights, which meant that the wires were pulled out with the concrete. As soon as they realised this was the case they consulted with me. We also discovered that some of the irrigation had been laid at the concrete level too, so this had to be lowered. Tony offered to do the required irrigation and electrical work for $1,200 dollars (included in the $10,000 total price above). The work took four days to complete. They took great care and did a wonderful job.

As soon as we decided to do the job and us him he scheduled us in 5 days, and that was the day it was done. I saw a contract because I asked for one, but we did not sign it. It was a bad experience. Something went wrong with sealing the cement. I think they did things they did not know how to do. There was no supervision from the owner. They came out three times to correct the problem without success. They were willing to come out to try to fix it and were good enough to give us back some of our money, but I would not use them again. The owner offered to totally redo the job or give us half the money back, and we chose to get our money. The owner did not come out when we were having problems. I think there needs to be more owner supervision.

I called up Three Guys Concrete to do my driveway. They ripped up all the concrete in a day. They hauled in gravel and rebar that day. They poured the concrete the next day, about 9 yards. We wanted a drain added that did change the initial cost, but they were flexible about that change. I enjoyed that they did their job quickly, efficiently and very business like. They had the right equipment to get the job done.

As it turned out, they had not done the sewer work to code and were called back to redo the job so that it could pass inspection. To facilitate matters, we agreed to have the concrete removed to the tune of $1200. After a good deal of bickering on their part, they finally got the sewer line done to code. They were going to re- cover it with concrete, but we asked them to install the drain they?d promised us instead. They did not respond to this suggestion. Moreover, when we looked for the re-installed water pipe we found it was just 8 - 12 inches below the fill, rather than the required 24. They have steadfastly refused to address the problem. The owner of Three Guys Construction is now saying he will not complete the work unless we sign a paper agreeing not to ?bad mouth? him and his company anymore. We have by now lost all faith in this company and have hired another company to finish the work. The three bids we got for the water pipe re-do range from 1,400 (excluding the trench, which costs approximately $1100) to 2, 311.00 We are, therefore, asking Three Guys to cover the costs of completing the job they originally agreed to do.
Description of Work: In January, 2008, Three Guys Construction agreed to connect sewer and water from the main lines to the garage/shop behind our house and put in the bathroom. They broke up concrete in the driveway and in the garage for that purpose and installed the pipe. But although the original contract specified that they would complete the plumbing in the bathroom, they quit the job without doing any construction work and before they connected the pipes. (We had already given them $22,000 at this pint, and had to ask for $5,000 back. The original job was to have cost us just under $19,000.) So we paid them $17,000 of the original $18,500, but did not get the bathroom they promised us. (We have paid others approximately $5,000 to complete the bathroom.)

Response from Three Guys Concrete LLC
Since we started this project, the members kept changing their minds so many times that I had to make a decision not to go back there. It is not worth going back there and they come up with another proposal or idea. Some days, I felt that I am their marriage counselor because they won't agree on what they wanted. One day they wanted concrete paved and the next day, they wanted sod, and we did everything they had wanted done in a professional way. Now, when the sewer inspector required to change how we laid the sewer pipe, I told the member that I would contact the city inspector and made the arrangement to resolve the issue. Well, the member thought that he knew better and dealt with the situation and failed. His wife called me to discuss the issue and not knowing that her husband made this mistake. It was supposed to take me two days to resolve this issue but they were too emotionally involved in it that it took longer which caused their frustration. I felt that they are partially responsible for the extra cost incurred and therefore agree to pay 50%% of what they claim. Sincerely, Tony Puloka, Owner
