+ -1 moreVery well. I've also had previous dealings with this establishment -- all of which have gone very well. Mr. Moy got me two new keys for my car after I bought it for a very reasonable price. Far less than the dealerships wanted for the same keys. Once when the car refused to start, and the alarm went nuts, I was certain I was going to have to have it towed in. I called Mr. Moy. He troubleshot the issue over the phone, and gave me fix that cost me nothing. My experience is that they are looking to do well by you and your car, not to pad the bill or to talk you into work your car doesn't need. I highly recommend them, especially if you have an older Volvo.

+ -1 moreLarry's is a great low cost shop for Volvos. If you have an older volvo, this is the place to have it worked on. Sometimes you need to be very clear on what to look for with the team since they don't always find the 2nd or 3rd issue. That said, once they find the problem they always fix it quickly and at a much lower cost than other shops. For the XC70, we had a light inspection and some work done. On driving away, the check engine light came on, so we then needed to do a full tune up. I have and will take other cars back to them.

+ -1 moreWarren picked up our Volvo after it had broken down and gave us a prompt estimate of the cost of the repair. The transmission was toast. He was going to refer us to a transmission specialist, but the cost was work more than 1/2 the value of the car. As a result, we offered to sell the vehicle. We asked if he'd be interested in buying the car, he was and offered a fair price, so the deal was made. He even waived the tow fee for us when asked. Although not a typical situation, it was amicable and we felt that we were treated fairly.

He understood the problem right away. I explained to the mechanic my budget limits and he found a way to get me back on the road quickly and within budget without sacrificing safety or performance. He's solution was top notch and I haven't had a problem with it since! I will definitely use Larry's for all my future Volvo care.

I live in Ballard and drive down to Beacon Hill because the work is always done right, they never do more work than is needed, always explain what they've done and why. But this summer, they went above and beyond, when my car blew a head gasket on I-5 near Everett. We got it to a Volvo mechanic there, who, after examining it, said we needed a new head. I called Warren to see if that was necessary and if the price was reasonable. He said he couldn't tell without looking at it. We brought it down from Everett for him to look at, and even though he wasn't doing the rest of the work, he had it rebuilt and saved us the money.
Description of Work: Rebuilt the aluminum head on a 1994 Volvo 850 when others said it couldn't be done, saving us $250.

+ -1 moreThey explained all of the problems and the what was required to fix it. We have had our car fixed there before and feel they are always straightforward, and don't try to over-charge us or have us complete repairs that are not necessary. For example, some covers came loose from the bottom of the car, and there were wires hanging down from the car. This was just after we had it there for an oil change. When I told them they were the only ones to touch our car within the last week, they only charged for the labor. They are typically able to schedule a repair for the next day or day after. They complete the work within a day or by the time promised.
Description of Work: They completed standard 75,000 mile service on our station wagon. We also asked them to check out the terrible rattling noise we experienced when going over bumpy roads. They checked and determined that some type of stabilizer bar needed to be replaced.

Description of Work: Our 1978 Volvo Station Wagon may need to be put out to pasture soon but we wanted to keep it going as long as possible. It drives fine, still gets good mileage, looks too groaty to bother with, and is generally dependable. The problem which arose was potentially dire and costly: an over-powering smell of raw gasoline in the passenger compartment --- no spillage during filling, no spots on pavement after prolonged parking, just vapors so concentrated that they could induce general anesthesia or an explosion, depending on the choices we might make. Hmm. This Volvo has been catered to by the original dealer since we purchased it new. But recently, every time we took it in, it came back with a new problem and a bill of not less than $1,500.00 --- no matter how simple the original problem was. Well, it took three visits to Larry's Independent Volvo & they did not charge us for the 2nd & 3rd visits. They completely removed & emptied the gas tank & put in all new gaskets --- twice, because the first time they got one gasket wrong (which they could have easily finessed as not being the case). I estimate that the labor alone amounted to four hours! These guys are HONEST! The owner, Warren Moy took personal responsibility for the matter --- without our having to throttle him or even raise our voices! What an uplifting experience during these difficult times!

Because there was major dis-assembly, Warren didn't charge me "standard" fees for the repairs and passed the labor benefit on to me basing it on time spent versus a set fee schedule. Also, he passed parts saving along as well. After picking the car up, I noticed a little squeak at one of my front wheels. One of the mechanics took a look and found a suspension nut was slightly loose. This part had nothing to do with the repairs he did. Even so, he fixed the squeak and didn't charge me for it. I couldn't be happier with Larry's Volvo service (Volvos only) & recommend him highly.
Description of Work: Warren Moy owns the company and had done previous good work on my '98 Volvo S-70. I had a lot of deferred maintenance & needed 4 new rotors, brakes, two front axles (one had a torn CV boot & was toast), front struts, rear shocks, fuel filter, timing belt replacement, serpentine belt replacement and a new upper engine mount bushing.
