"I included many of the landscape elements after our meeting to discuss preliminary plans. The main difficulties are two septic system drain fields, one in the backyard and one in the front yard, which is extensive. Vegetable gardens are not recommended due to bacteria contamination. She did not request vegetable gardens during our first meeting. I specified lawn as a safe alternative to protect the septic systems. Many of the plants she requested are on the planting plans. The customer requested a fig tree in the back yard during the design process, then changed her mind and did not want the fig tree. I suggested a Serviceberry, which she accepted until the plans were practically finished; she decided to plant a Mulberry. The junipers in the front yard were not there when I made my first visit. I’m puzzled about how I could suggest removing non-existing plants. I have photos. I did specify junipers for their soil holding properties. The junipers I specified are a very low (6”) and a spreading variety, which I explained to her. I allowed as much time as she wanted to review the design proposal. I suggested the she keep the preliminary plans to review as long as she wanted to. I strongly recommended that she hire a contractor due to the sensitive nature of working around a septic system. I included in the plans design elements that she requested such as dry river rock streams and a flagstone lateral extension of the driveway. I performed research concerning drain fields. Mounds were not recommended by the septic system contractors that I contacted. Her contractor could only say “maybe.” It appears that there has been communication problems that resulted in the customer’sdissatisfaction with the final plans. It’[Member Information Removed] a bit confusing to me since the customer’[Member Information Removed] dissatisfaction did not come up when I met with the customer and presented the final plan, which we reviewed together. In an attempt to remedy this situation I suggested on two occasions that we have a meeting to discuss what the issues are and to reach a resolution. The customer declined to meet."
