The repair was done and the I now get heat. Unfortunately I felt my repair bill was padded and all parts replaced that did not need replacing. I was told that I needed pressure sensors replaced and that my inducer motor (cracked) needed replacement. Plus I was charged for a plastic cap that was told was leaking. I was told that the parts were covered by warranty and I would be charged just for labor. That would have been Ok but when the labor time was added up it was apparent that I was charged for parts because the dollars and rates did not add up. I was satisfied was the results but the pricing and billing were not transparent and the technician could not really explain it to my satisfaction.
Description of Work: Performed a repair to my gas furnance, It was not producing heat.

Hi [removed members name] - thank you for the chance to serve and for the feedback. We understand the importance of being clear and upfront with pricing - that is why we are careful to quote initial diagonstic (trip) charge when setting the appointment and then only proceed with repairs (if needed) after providing quote and receiving approval. We do work very hard to be efficient and are consistently very competitive. Thank you again for the opportunity to serve.

Very nice people from the lady who arranges and confirms appointments to the gentleman (Marty) they sent out. He arrived on time, was extremely courteous and comfortable to have around. He was efficient with his time and knowledgable. He had to drill through our cabinet, ceiling (into attic) and through our roof...then install the pipes, the hood itself and roof end cap, flashing etc... Price was right and I have literally nothing bad to say about this experience. I would wholeheartedly recommend MM Comfort Systems

I have always been happy with the professionalism and quality of their work. I have decided to replace my old (30 year) furnace with a heat pumpand new furnace and when I contacted PSE they referred me to two contractors --- one of which was my old friend MM Comfort Systems. I didn't have to think twice -- they will be installing my new furnace and heat pump next week!

The furnace is new, so all I can comment on now is that it is very quiet and warms the house well.
Description of Work: We had to get our 20+ year old gas furnace replaced after it failed. The bid by this company was competitive, the person who came out and looked at our problem was both professional and answered all our questions clearly. The crew that installed the new furnace were very punctual and went right to work.

The wrong one was installed per Federal Way code so another one per code was installed. The furance did not work properly and they refused to fix it and they put holes in the walls and never fixed those the installer said he never put holes in the walls. We took pictures of the walls and so did the consultant. The consultant for MM comfort sytems has been working to get the issues resolved. He did fix the furance so it worked right but, the holes have still not been fixed. I have discussed this with him and he will contact MM but, he says there very busy. It's been almost 4 months and the work is still not done. I don't think it should have been the consultants job to do all of this. It should have been the installer but, he lied and refused to do the work
Description of Work: Hired MM comfort systems on 9/20/2013. Paid 1,000 down and they proceeded with the installation of the furance.

Hello [removed member name] - we have been unable to reach you regarding this rental home project. We have been in contact with your tenant to confirm furnace is operating properly and they are well pleased. The holes you mentioned were pre-existing and exposed when we replaced the furnace. While sheet rock trim is not normally part of our work we have returned and repaired the areas you mentioned. We would love a chance to chat with you to confirm satisfaction and/or answer any questions you may have. Ask for either our Operations Manager Jeff or owner Craig. Thank you for the opportunity to serve.

Initially contacted them via contact form on their website, and although it took a few days to receive a response, they were friendly, helpful, and immediately scheduled a consultation. Their consultant arrived on-time and on-schedule, and was fully prepared with information about the layout and size of the house. Discussed the specific concerns that we had - furnace wasn't warming the house sufficiently, filters were a pain to change, and we needed additional clearance for a hybrid water heater unit that we were planning on installing. He was friendly, courteous, and made a recommendation that was nearly identical to one of the other providers we worked with on estimates. We decided on M&M primarily because of their relationship with Costco, which was an additional level of peace of mind. After we made the decision to secure their services, we were provided with an expected install date about 3 weeks out (this was during the holidays, so that was not unexpected). Unfortunately, there was a severe cold snap the week before we were supposed to have our installation, so they contacted us the Friday before our appointment to ask if we could reschedule a week out to accommodate some no-heat calls that they had received. This was not a problem for us, and I am certain that they would have confirmed the previous date had we had any issue with the delay. On the day of installation, they arrived a little bit early, but immediately got to work at around 7:30am as promised. There were a couple minor issues related to the shortcuts taken when the original unit was installed, but there were no interruptions in my time during the entire installation effort (I did go out to check on their progress a couple times). They explained how to use the system clearly and left all of the necessary information related to the furnace and the thermostat that were installed. They cleaned the area quite well before leaving for the day.

Updated 12/18/2013: I was contacted by MM as soon as they saw this review and spoke with them about the situation. They assured me that they had email records that informed my GC that the Costco rebate would not be possible if the furnace was not purchased through Costco, and he chose to go ahead purchasing the furnace directly through MM regardless of that fact. Whether it was the GC's misunderstanding or willful disregarding of our wish to use the Costco rebate, it seems that it was not MM's fault. They could not confirm whether their technicians might have left a message with the GC or not about the disconnected ducts or the need to enclose the new ductwork for fire safety; this is understandably hard to prove, since any such communication would have likely been delivered orally at the work site and there would normally be no record of it. While they could not offer anything more than an apology to make up for bad situation, I appreciate their response and them taking the time to apologize for a poor outcome. I've updated my review score to reflect their interest in their customer's satisfaction. We were set up with MM through our general contractor, and the gentleman who first came out to do the bid seemed pleasant and professional enough. He showed us the advertisements for their Costo deals, enticing us with the option of getting back a percentage of our investment by receiving a Costco gift card if we purchased the furnace through Costco with them. The chance to get back a significant amount of the purchase price was one of the main motivators for going with MM and for choosing a higher-end furnace than we might have otherwise. Unfortunately when all was said and done, we were told that we were not "eligible" for the Costco gift card--an effective loss of hundreds of dollars that we had been hoping to recoup. When we asked why, we never got a response ( ETA: We later found out that they responded directly to our GC, who was their customer since he was the one they contracted with to do the work)--and instead were simply told how we could get a rebate from PSE and tax breaks. We knew about those two programs and were counting on utilizing both in addition to the Costco card. We would not have chosen a more expensive furnace if we knew that we could not get the Costco incentive after installation. We also had new ductwork run to the second floor. They ran the ducts up through the downstairs closets, which was fine, but did not even leave a message for us to know that we ought to enclose the ducts in drywall if we wanted to avert a fire hazard. Luckily the final inspector did, so we framed the ducts in and drywalled around them, but it would have been nice for MM to at least say "Hey, you didn't contract us to do the drywall, but you should probably get it done if you don't a fire hazard in your house." We were planning to box the new runs in anyway for aesthetic reasons, but I think that MM should have had some duty as professionals to warn us that not boxing them in would allow fires to quickly spread from the first to second floor. In addition, we had two runs of old ductwork for the first floor vents that had become disconnected in the crawlspace. Again, the service people did not bring it up to us directly, though they could have hardly missed it when they were down there to run the new ductwork from the main branch, because you had to crawl over the collapsed ducts to get into the crawlspace proper. Once again, I would expect a professional who really cared about your heating situation to at least leave a message saying, "By the way, you know that you're just heating your crawlspace right now?" As it happens, we were aware of the situation before MM came, but I cannot believe that a heating professional would not take a few seconds to confirm with us that we were aware of it. If we were the type of homeowners who wouldn't or couldn't crawl around under our house, we would have been wasting hundreds of dollars in heating without any idea why. In the end, we just ended up buying the metal duct at a big box store and repairing the situation ourselves, because we certainly didn't feel paying for any further work.

Furnace and duct replacement went smoothly. Marty (foreman) was very professional and responsive. The crew got the work done quickly and I would hire them again. Only complaint: They installed a furnace one size larger than agreed on in the contract and didn't tell me until I was signing the project completion paperwork. Installed an 80% efficient furnace which was becoming obsolete/out of code, so figure they were using up inventory, but I have some concerns that the furnace is louder, less efficient, or may not last as long because it rarely heats to full power.

I contacted MM Comfort because they had the telephone number of the contractor who had installed my original furnace. That company was no longer in business so I asked them to come to the house to prepare a proposal to do the job. Jevon Hill came to look things over, was very professional, and concluded they could do the job OK. Their price was about the same as others I had received, but since they were one of COSTCO's installation contractors, would obtain equipment through them, and I was already a COSTCO member there would be a $900 rebate to me in the form of a gift card from COSTCO. That fact made their final price much lower than anyone else's, and I would have been willing to give them the job after discussing the matter of needing more cold air return capacity than they had included in their original proposal. Several other contractors had mentioned this need, and I was convinced it was necessary. But I expected this addition would increase MM's price somewhat, so I decided to see if I could find someone who could beat the COSTCO deal. I did, and gave the job to them.

Arrived on time for estimate and actually wrote up the estimate before leaving the house, which was appreciated. After payment cleared the Costco system, a coordinator called from MM Comfort Systems and scheduled the work for the next week. Installers arrived on the agreed-upon date and on time. Workers did a good job of installing. They made sure to verify unit locations with me beforehand and were willing to modify their plans for small requests (I asked that the drainage be piped into my drain spouts so that it doesn't drip alongside the foundation). The only problems that I had with the company stem from communication. There was a misunderstanding regarding when the local permitting inspectors would arrive to verify the work. I was told that the installers would arrive the coming Friday, and they didn't show up. I attempted to contact the gentleman who wrote up the estimate, got no answer, and left a voicemail. I then tried to call the coordinator, got no answer, and left a voicemail. I then called the coordinator's backup, got no answer, and left a voicemail. A week went by with no answer from any of the MM Comfort contacts. The next Friday evening, I noticed a card on the front porch indicating that I missed my inspection date, and that I would be fined and need a reinspection. I called the front desk of MM Comfort the next Monday, quite angry at this point, and asked the receptionist to connect me to someone in person. She then physically got up and found a person to answer my call, which I greatly appreciate. The woman I eventually spoke with was able to get the permit worked out with no additional cost to me. She gave me an excuse that their permit person "no longer worked for the company". At least the problem got solved. As a side note, it has been more than a month since install, and still no response from anyone else at the company following up on their voicemails. I'm glad that I have had no need to to contact them again. Generally, they do good quality work and the Costco pricing is extremely competitive (about 30% less than competitors) with Costco standing behind the warranty.
Description of Work: Installed multi-zone mini-split system. One indoor unit installed on each of three floors in the house with a single outdoor unit. Ordered through MM Comfort Systems with Costco. Costco works with Lennox--which is an OK brand, actually rebranded Grunaire systems, I think.

They were good. I didn’t have a lot of interaction with them because it was part of the home purchase agreement. The previous home owner replaced the furnace for me. I kind of had little interaction with the company. I didn’t hand a check to them. I paid for it indirectly through the sale agreement that the house I bought. The interaction was good. They did the work. The sales person who they had contacted came back out and did a follow up with me after it had been installed. Good customer service. They were professional. The furnace still works.

We are not aware of any unresolved concerns and would be happy to help if there are any - just let us know. As you may recall we re-used existing vent pipe when installing your new furnace in an attempt to save you money. Unfortunately the system did not vent properly resulting in pressure safety shutdowns. We replaced vent pipe at our expense. We returned again at our expense to adjust gas pressure as necessary for upsized venting. So sorry you were not delighted with our performance. Please let us know if we can do anything else. Thank you.

These comments pertain to a heating/cooling system bought through Costco who contracted with MM Comfort Systems to perform the installation. It involved replacing an existing natural gas furnace heating system with a new natural gas furnace/heat pump system. Everything went well until the installation was performed. The cost estimate and date established for installation were great. Jevon, who did the estimate, answered all my questions (and I had a lot of them) in detail and honestly. The installation workmanship was sloppy...for the following reasons: 1) Sheet metal on Furnace and Heat Pump were scratched during the installation and repair processes. The Lennox XP17-060 Heat Pump and Lennox SL280V Furnace I had installed are expensive pieces of equipment and I would no more expect them to be scratched when being worked on than I would my car. 2) House walls were marred. The utility room where the furnace was installed had recently been painted. There were many ladder marks and other marks left on the walls. 3) Holes punched through walls to accommodate tubing were were drilled and filled sloppily. The hole drilled through my outside wall splintered my outside siding. Every craftsman knows that when you're drilling a hole you reduce pressure when you get close to breakthrough to prevent splintering on the far side of the hole. Didn't happen here. The holes were also sloppily caulked and the caulking was smeared along the black insulation on the tubing. Looks bad. 4) Cable ties put around tubing insulation were way too tight. In some instances the cable ties were so tight they cut through the insulation. Putting them on so tight defeats the purpose of the insulation. My system was installed on September 4, 2012. It took four additional service calls and until January 29, 2013 until it was working properly. During this period, numerous calls to the MM Comfort Systems service phone number were never returned. Several times I resorted to calling Jevon (my initial contact) to try to get some action. He responded promptly. He was a real jewel in this process.

They did a great job - had 2 crews there on the same day to complete both installations so that we only had to be home from work for 1 day. They worked hard and got everything done in a neat and professional fashion, and left the worksite clean when they finished. They made arrangements for all the inspections, and cheerfully changed something that the City inspector had an objection to. They may be a little more expensive than some, but they stand behind their work and were great to deal with.
