What a great experience! We called for an estimate and they were over within a few hours. We had our wood floors sanded and refinished with Swedish finish. Our floors extend through our entry, kitchen, dinning area and bathroom and everything looks brand new. There was minimal dust! :) We were happy with their punctuality from start to finish. Personally, we were also happy that they would not remove the trim to refinish the floors. That was a great decision, because we only have one spot that will need some touch up paint. When needed, we will definitely call them back!!

Bamboo floor installation: Arrived promptly and did the job in one day, but it was not completed as agreed. My husband had to rip and use a router on some remaining boards, then install them himself in order to have the room done as requested. They had loads of reasons why it couldn't be done as agreed, but if a non-professional could figure it out and do it, seems as though they simply didn't want to do it.
Hardwood floor - Swedish refinish: They were prompt and said all the right things. We moved out for three days and, upon returning home, found over 40 defects (spots where the floor was shiny). We notified them and they, once again, arrived promptly. We were given a reason (knee pads?) and told that they'd fix it. We came home that evening to find most of those defects repaired, but now there was a large patch of what they called "fish eyes" - right in the entry way - and several other areas where the finish wasn't even because they hadn't filled the cracks properly. We notified them and they came out a third time. This time, they improved on the fish-eye area, but it is still an eye-sore for us. The uneven areas remain untouched, and we didn't bother calling them out a fourth time. . .
I wish I'd joined Angie's List before contracting with this company. They were recommended by a friend, but it was the awful experience with them that led us to join Angie's List and find better rated companies for our other remodeling jobs.

"We would first like to apologize for this customers experience. It is our practice to do the best we can to accomodate our customers and achieve the results that they desire. That being said in response to the claim that we did not finish the install, our response is, that they supplied the flooring for us to install which was a prefinished wood that once installed needed a header to fit properly against their border. Which was offered to the home owner and refused. We were prepared to do the exact same thing she describes her husband doing with their provided material and were told not to. As for the shiny spots from the knee pads we apologized and fixed those. They can not be seen before the floor is coated. It is something that happens so seldomly and is out of our control in the process of finishing the floor. We truly apologize to the customer that it happened to you. Now to address the fish eye situation. That is something caused by floor cleaners used by home owners that contain silicone or waxes that get into the grain of the wood. That is something that can not be completely removed in the sanding process and that chemically reacts to the finish and causes a fish eye. In some cases depending on the depth of the grain in the wood it can be deminished but not in every case. Which was explained to the home owner and rejected as a possibility. Lastly the communication from this customer was at times hostile, rude, and dishonoring of the 62 years of hardwood flooring knowledge and information we offered them. We went above and beyond to help them in attaining the flooring they purchased for us to install and did everything we could to accomodate them throughout the process. We are sorry that after our efforts they feel this way. Sincerely James M. & Johnny M. Blair"

The experience was really great! They were really organized. They showed up in the morning and called before they came. When we came back, they cleaned up after themselves. They finished the job when promised and it was clean. There wasn't any dust in the cabinets or on the counters. They took the time to vacuum the walls too.

Their quality was okay but he was very nasty to deal with. He and my husband had a bit of a disagreement about some services to be done. It was at our previous house and we thought he was going to come back and do some additional work. He finally came back to do it, but he was real nasty and basically said that he didn't want to do our floors again. The workmanship was fine. When we needed them redone, we didn't even call him this time.
Response from Blair & Son Floor Company
"I have come accross this review and it called my attention because they were not satisified customers that claimed the person that came out was nasty to them. So I looked them up in our data base. We performed work for them in 2003 7 years before this review was left. The person that they dealt with was my now deceased father who shortly after this year (2003) retired due to a stroke. We are sincerely sorry that his behavior was anything but kind and respectful."

It was fantastic. They were here on time. It took us a while to schedule, because they were busy. We had to leave the house for three days while they did the work. They put three coats of Swedish finish on. Most of the other companies only offered to put two coats on. While they were working, they did crack our toilet; but when I told them about it, they replaced it without any problem.

INSTALLATION QUALITY AND PRODUCT QUALITY WAS EXCELLENT. THEY WERE PROMPT AND COURTEOUS. WE HAD ONE SMALL PROBLEM WITH A TRIM PIECE AND THEY FIXED IT NO PROBLEM. THEY COULD HAVE DONE A BETTER JOB MATCHING THE EXISTING FLOOR QUALITY BUT I THINK WE ARE THE ONLY ONES WHO NOTICE. (THE NEW FLOOR HAS LESS COLOR VARIATION AND IS ACTUALLY A BETTER GRADE)

BLAIR & SON DID AN EXCELLENT JOB ON OUR HARDWOOD FLOORS. WE HAVE A RARE TYPE OF HARDWOOD THAT IS NOT MADE ANYMORE AND THEY BROUGHT BACK IT'S BEAUTY.
