We rented our family home and needed to have the furnace inspected. I called Day & Nite. They were familiar with our furnace brand and were willing to arrange an appointment with the new tenants. They gave me an estimate over the phone, and I was able to pay over the phone. They followed up with phone calls to let me know the work was scheduled and completed, and they mailed me a detailed report of their findings. Great experience!!
Description of Work: ArcoAire gas furnace inspection (way overdue). Report included many details about the following categories: gas sequence, electrical sequence, operation sequence, misc., carbon monoxide.

When I spoke to Doris and made the appointment, we went over in detail the costs associated with this service. I explained how I was providing the materials and wanted to know what the minimum service was. She said $59.00. I asked if that was what the cost was going to be to install the new toilet and she said at least that much. I work for a contractor so I am familiar with what a toilet install (labor only) should cost and knew $59 was too little but figure it would be $125-200. I wasn't able to be there for the appointment myself and had a party scheduled for that evening so I HAD to have the toilet installed. Felt the plumber took advandage of the situation and overcharged my friend. The cost was $311 for installing customer supplied toilet. On site less than 45 minutes. I followed up with their office the same day once I heard what they charged. Felt they totally misrepresented themselves on the phone. Very dissatisfied with their overall service. Will not sure again.

Our furnace stopped working and we called on a Saturday to have a Day and Nite repairperson come out. Serviceman Todd inspected the furnace and identified the problem as a faulty thermocoupler which needed replacement. He also checked the CO2 emissions and noted that the emission levels were fine. He recommended the furnace be replaced due to its age. He came promptly and fixed the problem quickly. He was not interested in explaining the problem in more detail--not unfriendly, just not friendly. This inspection and repair came to about $350. Then five weeks later, the furnace stopped working again. I called Day and Nite and asked them if they would waive their normal fee for coming out--since it had been just over a month that they had "inspected" our furnace. I called at 8:00 am and got a call back at 10:30 am. Ken immediately said that D & N would not waive the service charge. So we decided to go with another company instead of giving more money to D & N who refused to take any responsibility for their substandard inspection. Another company came out and did their inspection of the furnace. They located a crumbling heat exchanger which was drawing too much air. He checked the CO2 emissions and they were too high--it was unsafe to operate the furnace! We are in the process of having a new furnace installed now. I was very disappointed with D & N's professionalism and service. It is not possible for the the heat exchanger to go from operational to crumbling in only 5 weeks--though D & N did an inspection, they failed to notice this HUGE problem. Furthermore, they tested for CO2 emissions and said it was fine, but the next company said that the furnace was dangerous to operate with their CO2 test. The careless inspection of D & N put our family in danger. It was a waste of $350. This company does not practice the values that they claim to on their company's mission statement on their website. Here is what their website says: "We will always serve our Clients as safely as conditions allow, and take what ever steps are necessary to protect life, limb and property. We will treat others like we would like to be treated if we were in their situation." http://www.dayandnite.net/mission.html I do not feel that they protected our lives when they claimed that the CO2 levels were safe, nor do I think that they or anyone would want the irresponsible service that they offered
Description of Work: inspected furnace for problem. Identified problem and replaced thermocoupler. Checked for harmful CO2 emissions--emission level were tested as ok

When I called I told them that I was a renter, and that my landlord would pay with credit card if they called her and told her how much it would cost. When the tech was there, I asked him if it would be expensive to fix, and his reply was "Not for you, your just the tenant." Then m landlord received a bill the next week for $350.00. They did not call for approval like they said they were going to do. My heater is working now, but I would have rather dealt with someone who operated honestly.

We called Day & Nite plumbing to come out and perform services on our home due to a leak on our water mains. This was our second time using Day & Nite. Our previous service call with them was to fix a broken sewer main in our previous home, and they did a terrific job on that repair work. On this service call, the story was a little different. What I did not know is that I was being charged plumber's rate for a construction job of digging up a hole at the location of the leak which cost me over $1200. Granted, I accepted the bid, and by the time they discovered the location of the leak, it was determined that the leak was not on my main, but my neighbor's main water line. The plumber was sympathetic, but I still had an obligation to pay for the fee for digging a hole on my neighbor's driveway. What could be done differently is that they should clearly explain that the $1200 fee is to dig the hole, and that if the leak was discovered not to be on my main I would still be liable. That was not made clear to me at the time of the bid for the job. Secondly, they should make it clear that they are charging services for plumbers to dig holes in the ground, which I found out the hard way should not happen. Day & Nite should take care of their customers by subcontracting out the labor for external plumbing work instead of assuming responsibility for the cost themselves. Their staff is very courteous and professional; however, their policies need improvement. My recommendation is that future customers should read the fine print if the business does not take care to explain the finer details of the work to be performed or not performed. In closing, the fee we paid had it been our leak, would not cover the actual cost of time and materials for the work to be 100% completed. In the end, they offered to have a line inspector attempt to locate the leak, but that would've cost me an additional $500. I wish I was offered that option before digging a $1200 in my neighbor's yard to help my other neighbor fix his main.
Description of Work: The service call was for a leak somewhere on the water main. There was a location in my neighbor's driveway that had water protruding from the ground.

Initial phone contact went well. Scheduling went well. Scheduled 3 weeks in advance for 8 am. They arrived at 8:40 am without the furnace part and without any knowledge of the part I wanted replaced. They repaired the gas leak. They apparently did the furnace and fireplace maintenance, but I can't tell since they did not vacuum any of the dirt or dust bunnies inside (basic maintenance 101). They offered to "come back" and repair the noisy blower and waive the travel fee, but I will not use them. The plumbing estimate went well, but I will not use this company, as they failed to execute the special request that they agreed to. There are plenty of other places to take my business.
Description of Work: Hired them to do four jobs: find & repair a tiny gas leak under the gas cook top; repair a noisy furnace blower; annual furnace maintenance; and annual gas fireplace maintenance. Also requested a plumbing estimate to add an outdoor spigot. They agreed to my special request that they bring the part with them for the noisy blower, and I supplied model, serial, and part numbers, so I would not have to schedule someone at home for a return trip.

Overpriced. I felt they were dishonest and condescending. Inefficient. It took two guys about 10 tips to their truck back and forth to do this small job. They charged me $116 just to order the part that I could have easily gone our and purchased myself. They insisted on doing this. They didn't even finish the job I had to call them back to come out and finish. They had to come back out because they forgot to put a part on.

The office people were all pleasant to deal with, as were the plumbers who came out and did the work. The work was on time, and they worked quickly. However... they made many amateurish mistakes that I could detect, which makes me worry about the things I don't know about. They cut into a pipe without turning off the water first, which soaked the carpet in two rooms. They cut into the wall in a room instead of a closet in an adjoining room. They reversed the hot and cold in the shower. They didn't reinstall the dryer vent but just pushed the dryer back (it was several loads of laundry before I realized what was going on, and I had to fix it myself). They installed a different water heater than the one I had requested without consulting me first. The work did not pass the city's inspection, and they had to come out to finish the job. They were polite and respectful. But I don't think I'll hire them again, because of the many small problems.

I was informed by phone that the entire gas valve was bad on my 2-year old water heater and needed to be replaced. 2 years and the unit is already failing? I let them know this was unacceptable and I expected them to fix the product they sold me. Or did they intentionally sell me a cheap water heater with a 2-year life span? Even though my paperwork on the water heater claims there is a 6-year warranty, Day & Night told me that it was not on warranty. I would need to pay $69 for them to come out and look at it. Wait a minute, I already paid $69 for them to come out and look at it. They told me I needed a new gas valve. No matter, $69 just to come out and then labor and parts to fix it. No. No more. At this point Day & Night is dead to me. It was cheaper to buy a new water heater from an honest company than to give them any more of my money. I am only sad that I paid them $5000.00 2 years ago to install a new furnace and water heater. Oh well, so much for repeat customers.
Description of Work: Provided a gas furnace and a check up on an ailing gas water heater, both were purchased from and installed by Day&Night 2 years ago - January. I was quoted a price of $110 for the furnace check up and $49 to see why the pilot light on the 2-year old water heater keeps going out. I wrote these prices down. They came out and met with my renter and charged $69 to look at the water heater and $159 for the furnace check up. Grand total with tax $248.29 I called to ask how a $110 quote turned into $250. Why was I was being charged more than quoted over the phone. The man at the office tried to be helpful and I was assured that everything would be straightened out. It was'nt...

Response from Day & Nite Plumbing & Heating, Inc.
THE FURNACE CHECK-UP WAS QUOTED AT $110 PLUS $49 SERVICE CALL WHICH IS THE $159 HE WAS CHARGED. THE WATER HEATER IS AN AO SMITH FVR 50 AND HAS A 6 YEAR WARRANTY ON LEAKAGE AND PARTS, AND A ONE YEAR WARRANTY ON LABOR. THE $69 DIAGNOSTIC CHARGE WAS TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM WITH THE WATER HEATER. THE THERMOCOUPLE AND GAS PRESSURE TESTED FINE, SO THE TECH DETERMINED THE GAS VALVE HAD AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM AS THE TANK STAYED LIT DURING THE ENTIRE VISIT. THE GAS VALVE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, BUT THE LABOR TO REPLACE IT WAS NOT COVERED. HOWEVER THE OWNER CHOSE NOT TO HAVE US CONTINUE. WE REGRET THE FRUSTRATION OUR CUSTOMER HAD WITH THIS JOB, WE DIDN'T KNOW THIS WAS A RENTAL SITUATION AND I THINK THIS COULD HAVE BEEN MINIMIZED HAD THE OWNER BEEN ON-SITE WITH OUR TECH.

David came out and after talking with me recommended that we replace only a portion of the faucet that he said was causing our problem. He did this and showed me that the water heat was now running consistently. He was here about 30-35 minutes and replaced a stem in our valve. After he left and I was discussing the job with my husband - we realized that we should have asked more questions because we felt that $300 for what he did and the amount of time spent was too expensive. It's my fault that I didn't ask for a more specific breakdown of the charges. I feel that the $49 service charge is inappropriate. The basics of the job were completed and David was very nice. I just felt, after he left, like we were overcharged and likely paid too much due to my ignorance. The more I think about it - I could/should have paid the $49 service fee and then fixed the problem myself for $50 at Lowe's or Home Depot.

It went really well. Day & Nite was the only company I contacted that would come out and give and estimate before starting on the work. The other plumbers I contacted estimated the job to be several hundred dollars, even after me explaining that we needed the line moved a few inches and reconnected. The plumber estimated the job, I gave the OK, and he was done within the hour. He also said to call with any concerns because they guarantee their work.
Description of Work: After a gas leak was detected in the regulator of our range, we needed the gas line slightly altered to accommodate a new regulator. The change needed to be precise because the line is in the kitchen island behind the drawers of the cabinet.

Although we had to reschedule due to their being on a job later than planned and my needing to return to work, such happens. The service related to that called early, let me know and gave me choices for reschedule was good. Once we got together, the service was excellent. The technician had both pluming and furnace 'certification' so they were able to do both types of work. He was informed, personable, and well equipped when I decided to change out the toilet rather than repair; had a nice Toto on the truck. I would definitely recommend them to others.

I was expecting the Plumber to arrive during a 2 hour window but he came 90 minutes after the end of the window. I did recieve a call from the company saying that he was running late. He asked what the problem was and I showed him. I told him we had observed problems in the attic and crawl space under the house. He didn't check the attic at all. He looked at the crawl space and after I persisted, finally went into the crawl space to check it out. He said he didn't see a leak anywhere and thought it was structural, not plumbing and suggested I contact a general contractor. He said he would check our water meter to make sure there wasn't a leak. After spending about 2 minutes looking for the water meter he said he wasn't sure which one was mine and couldn't get the lid off the one that might be it. I asked him to try again so I wouldn't have to pay him to come again if it was a leak but he resisted.

Other plumbers had estimated $400 or more. One reason I was so pleased is that I live in southern CA and lease our house long distance. The tech from Day and Nite called me every step of the way and the person in their office was extremely thorough in getting information from me and scheduling the visit with the tenants.
Description of Work: When a plumber on contract from a home warranty company replaced our water heater, he felt that water pressure was high. Using ANGIE'S, I called Day And Nite;they sent a technician who tested the pressure in the supply line to the house and said that it was at 120 psi, when 60 is optimal, and 80 psi and above causes premature wear in faucets, valves in dish- and clothes-washers, ice maker supply lines, etc. He installed a PRV (pressure regulator valve).

Steve and the staff at Day and Nite were professional, courteous, and helpful. Steve took the time to patiently explain "plumberese" to me, many times over, until I could grasp what was wrong with the drainage system.! :)
Description of Work: My need was just a consultation on my kitchen drainage system. We were told by a friend that it was not installed to code, and he told us that we should have a plumber come out to verify it. So I called Day and Nite and they sent someone out that very day, even though it wasn't urgent. Steve was very courteous; it took him about 20 seconds to show me why my drainage system was not properly installed. Steve then wrote up an estimate of what it would cost to remove and reinstall the drainage system to code. It would cost about $280.00. He was extremely helpful, as were the customer service people on the phone. *Please note: Make sure you know that whomever is installing your plumbing really is a licensed plumber! Just because it states so on their business card that they "do" plumbing, doesn't mean that they are licensed. We learned this the hard way. I wish that I had consulted Angie's List BEFORE I hired the contractor who incorrectly installed the system.

Steve the plumber showed up and fixed the broken pipe and connection fittings. Prior to his arrival, I had already removed sheet rock and exposed affected area. Price was high, but $200 is about minimum for any plumber to come out. I had called five different companies in the morning with two companies not even returning my call. One had told me they would be here between 11 and 1 p.m., but when the technician called to confirmed, he said it would be next week sometime before they could get to my job. Another called me back after Day & Nite fixed problem and said a plumber was on his way. Day & Nite told me that they would have a technician call me, but he just showed up. I think communication is a very big problem with these plumbing companies and it is something that would lead to better customer satisfaction. I would hire Day and Nite again, but would still try to contact other companies as well.

Nathan was asked lots of questions, tested both upstairs baths, and quickly ascertained that the problem was easy to fix and not expensive to fix! I gave them a ''B'' for punctuality only because the appointment was scheduled for 12-2 pm window ; the scheduler called at 10:30 and said Nathan had finished his appointment early, could he come by my place around 11AM? YES. So, I left work early to accommodate but yet Nathan ended up arriving at Noon anyway. I could have gotten another hours' work done. Not that big a deal I guess but kind of silly to call me when it didn't change the appointment time at all.
