Ronnie and his crew did a better than expected job. Honest, efficient and the final work we can only describe as beautiful. Change orders had to be made during the work but every one was necessary and didn't slow down the work being performed at all. We have more work to be done on another project and know that this is the company to use. We took bids from other companies but no one matched the enthusiasm and timely manner that this company showed. Ronnie is the best communicator and answered any questions immediately - day/ night or weekends. His crew offered solid suggestions throughout the process. When it was over - we were happy we hired this company. What else is there to say.
Description of Work: demo and reconstruct a second floor balcony, re surfaced a large lower level deck, changed 7 structural poles with new pressured treated lumber..

We had an excellent relationship with Ronnie and his crew from the beginning to the end of the project. I have absolutely no complaints about this experience. I would highly recommend Country Carpenter to anyone wanting a well designed, beautiful deck. You will not be disappointed. I have worked with other contractors and crews when we needed projects completed within the house, but working with Country Carpenter and Ronnie's crew was probably the best experience we have ever had when employing others to work for us!
Description of Work: Our old deck had boards that were rotting and beyond repair. There was also a problem with the underside of the deck because the original owner had not properly poured cement footings to hold the support beams. Therefore, one side of the old deck was actually sinking a few inches. I had to jack up that part periodically. Ronnie Cearley, the owner of Country Carpenter, on inspecting the old deck realized that we would need to completely start from scratch, removing the old deck and foundation completely. I agreed, and I want to note that he was the only bidder to suggest starting this way. Other bidders just wanted to lay new decking over the older, unsound structure. We agreed upon new PVC decking material made by Azek and composite railing components and a cable system by TimberTech. Ronnie knew we wanted to have cables strung to allow as little visual blockage as possible, so he actually was able to create a beautiful system using their components but eliminating some of the hardware often visible at the ends of cables. The results allow us to view through the cables with almost no visual interference. It was a very thoughtful and useful idea that worked well. New foundation footings for the support beams were dug and cement poured. The underside of the deck used only pressure treated wood with amble hangers supporting joist connections where required. I should point out that the two-man crew of Ronnie's, Joe and Derrick, were both highly skilled workers, having built many high end homes from the ground up. Together, they had worked on built many decks. They worked together seamlessly and were always professional. If I ever had a question, they would thoroughly answer it and encouraged questions from either my wife or me as they worked on the project. Ronnie was able to get our deck started about three weeks from when he gave us the bid. They arrived promptly on time, tore down the old deck, removed all of the old materials, and always swept up before they left for the day. On this job, they worked each weekday starting exactly a 8 am and finishing the day around 4 pm or so. They didn't work on weekends, which was fine with us. On completion of the deck, about three weeks from the beginning, the workers cleaned up and removed all left-over deck scraps and any other items that were used during the construction. The area under and around the deck was thoroughly cleaned up when they left.

I first contacted Ronnie about a year ago for a similar project and he promptly came by my place, determined my needs, and submitted a detailed bid. At that time, I couldn't decide what to do, but be sure: the problem was mine. I didn't know what I really wanted, so I took time out and mulled over my options. Did this upset Ronnie? As far as I could tell, not in the least. This was my first learned lesson: Ronnie is a professional. He's caring, sincere, and devoted to his clients--even those who represent his missed opportunities. When I finally got my stuff together, I called Ronnie again, somewhat sheepishly, and asked for him to come back and re-bid my project. Again, Ronnie was courteous and promptly stopped by to hear out my new proposal. Once he arrived (later that day), he indeed remembered our previous meeting. I attempted to apologize to him, but he reassured me that I had every right to withdraw, or want more time, or whatever. He in turn, profusely thanked me for reconsidering him (and his company), which I thought was a fresh, humble, and professional approach to "the customer is always right". We went over the details and my requirements, spending an hour or so making sure he and I were on the same page and that I had no reservations whatsoever. I should mention that I realize home improvement craftsmen are very busy and very much in demand and that you need to plan ahead. I was looking to have work done before this summer ('15), so I called Ronnie a month or two earlier. I was correct in that thinking, whereas Ronnie told me in our meeting that he was about a month out from being able to start. So, knowing that ahead of time makes the process go that more smoothly. We set up a date for the end of April, with the option to begin earlier if he could find time between other projects not yet started. (Happily, that's what happened--Ronnie could start a month earlier.) On the Monday morning start date, Ronnie arrived promptly, delivered a load of lumber and supplies. His crew arrived by 9 am and immediately started in (without needing to talk with me at all). The crew (two men) worked diligently and continuously, each and every day for five days, until the job was completed. Each day Ronnie would drop off a load of materials, as required for the days' work. Ronnie had planned out the sequencing for each project component quite well--for example: the railing I selected needed to be pre-stained and sealed, so during the week's other work, Ronnie had all the boards (etc.) readied off-site. When the railing components were needed at the job site, they arrived ready and were incorporated seamlessly. It was an impressive operation. The crew, as I've already said, were two gentlemen. One was the main carpenter, the other was a younger helper. Both men arrived each morning (about 8 or 9 am) and worked all day long non-stop, and quit somewhere around 4 to 5 pm. Each day they cleaned up the work area, making sure there were no loose boards or materials lying around to trip over. Their actual craftsmanship is second-to-none. Seams are tight, corners are square, components are plumb and level where they need to be plumb and level. The railing is solid as a rock. They even miter the "ends" of the railing top-cat, so that the returns don't show "end grain" (of the composite deck board). I requested a couple a "pop outs" so I could access a hose bib and a drain area. The seams for these removable areas are so tight you can't slide a piece of paper in the crack. Actually, there's really no crack to speak of--those old Egyptian stone masons would be proud. Within a week I had a new deck. It's a fantastic addition to my property and can't help but promise a full return on value (in the future). I'm certain--as solid as the construction is--this deck will easily last decades without any repairs and probably very little maintenance. I will continue to recommend Country Carpenter to friends, family and anybody else needing home improvement work. I couldn't be happier with the result, and I've already received numerous compliments on my new deck. After my dealings with Ronnie (and Country Carpenter) I have only one beef: What took me so long? I cannot recommend this company enough. If you have a job needing done, call Ronnie and get it going. You won't be disappointed.

From my first contact with Ronnie the project has been perfect. This was a large project and the quotes we received were well above our budget. We were honest with Ronnie and told him what the budget was and he was able to work with us to get there. We had Derek and Joe on our project and I have never met two more professional and nice guys. They were always prompt, courteous and the job site was clean and secure each day before they left. The project came with a couple of challenges, such as leveling and squaring but the Derek and Joe prevailed. Dark Red Trex with window frame construction and black powder coated aluminum rails with glass panels make the deck absolutely beautiful. Throughout the entire project Ronnie was in contact and has been a pleasure to deal with. I would recommend Country Carpenter without hesitation and I would hire them again.

Taking a moment to do a quick review of Country Carpenter. We hired Country Carpenter to replace an aging second story deck and the outcome was beyond our expectations. The process started with some back and forth on designs. We had a pretty good idea in general of what we wanted but a little unsure about certain details such as the railing layout. Ronnie was both patient and helpful as we locked on a final design that aligned to our design but also made good construction sense. What impressed us most about the build was their attention to detail. Example: we had specified screw-down on the Azek deck and Country Carpenter's crew (Derrick & Joe) opted to spend more time and effort by using hidden fasteners. The deck railing designs had called for connection brackets to connect the horizontal pieces, Country Carpenter went beyond to use their own techniques to omit the fasters and the execution was flawless. They even went so far as to wash the desk when completed. Even the footings details which we had clearly spelled out were precise and exact to specification. It was clear they take pride in their work. We would both recommend Country, and we would hire them again.

The workmanship is outstanding like one would expect of an interior carpentry job. The owner, Ronnie Cearley, is a finish carpenter and he apparently expects such work of his several crews. We think we were very fortunate to have Derrick as foreman of our job. He is very focused, meticulous, and skilled. The site was always orderly and picked up at the end of a work day. We would use them again for either interior or exterior work.
Description of Work: We contracted with Country Carpenter to refurbish our uncovered deck. We could not be more pleased. The deck is L-shaped at ground level with an area of 580 square feet. Two existing , one and two step, stairs were rebuilt and a ten foot long one-step was added for yard access.

Ronnie and his team are extremely knowledgeable, professional and easy to work with. They showed up when they said they would, they finished the project on time and within budget. He did everything he committed to and surprised me with a few other details I did not think he was going to complete by the target finish date. No complaints, only compliments to the high quality of work done!
Description of Work: Ronnie worked with me to identify the best design for our new deck railing allowing us to keep with the architecture of the house while maximizing our view. The result was a rail made of clear cedar post and top rail with stainless cable. Ronnie coordinated with the stainless manufacture and built the rail and installed the stainless cable. He also stained all the wood, replace the facia where it was rotting and stabilized the underside of the deck where needed.

Everything we asked for and more. The old deck off the back of our house (approx. 20 ft. x 12 ft.) started to show it's age -- rotting in places and sagging when bearing weight. I contacted Ronnie at Country Carpenter requesting an estimate. He was prompt for the appointment, took measurements, and discussed options. He was very polite, listening to all my requests and concerns, and knowledgeable. I received the estimate by email less than 1 day later. The actual job went very smooth. The whole project took about three days (one day demo, two days of construction). T.C., the carpenter that completed most of the labor, was right on time every morning, the demo was very clean, and the construction went quickly and without any issue what-so-ever. The final product LOOKS AMAZING! My wife and I couldn't be happier -- there is no doubt, when you look at it and walk on it, that our deck was built by professionals of the highest caliber. I'm proud to show it off! Thanks again, Ronnie and T.C.!

We had a small 2nd floor deck off our kitchen that was getting worn and was really too small for our family Country Carpenter was the second contractor we contacted. The job involved removing the old deck and replacing with one almost double the square footage. His price was very competitive on a per square foot basis especially when his bid included Trex deck and railings. I volunteered to handle the permits with our HOA and the City of Mill Creek. Ronnie was always prompt and did everything he said he would do when he said it would be done. Whether it was making an appointment to bid the job, deliver a contract or start the job, he was always on time. The job was completed in about 8 business days and the quality of the workmanship is first rate. The fit and finish is first rate; all the corners are mitered, there are no exposed end grain, everything is straight, square and plumb. My back yard and access is pretty small but even with taking down the old deck and building the new one, the work area was always kept neat and tidy at the end of the day. Ronnie's service was first rate, his price is fair and the quality of the work was top notch. The job was on time and on budget, no surprises and passed inspection the first time. This is the guy you want to work with. He will be the first contractor we call when we start remodeling.

When I set out to replace our existing deck and remove the hot tub, I interviewed several companies and received a wide variety of bids. I had an idea of what I wanted, but looked to the provider for ideas as well. Ronnie, from Country Carpenter, had some great ideas that would work for our yard and our needs. He was very easy to work with and exceeded our expectations in terms of workmanship and professionalism. Derek was our craftsman that literally built the new deck and worked effortlessly to make sure all the details were precisely done. He has a very high standard and we were willing to pay for that. We have a beautifully designed lighted deck that we can enjoy for many years. The "attention to detail" is obvious in every way. We could not be happier with the results and highly recommend this provider.

We are thrilled with the results. Ronnie carefully selected the wood, rejecting some of the pieces that did not meet his standards. Hidden fasteners were used, and in the places where top screws were necessary, they buried the fastener under a plug of Ipe, which was then sanded back to the surface of the board, resulting in a completely smooth deck surface with no exposed fasteners and no butt joints. The result is simply gorgeous. Every craftsmanship detail was first rate, and no effort was spared to produce a superior result. Significant extra labor and time was put in by Ronnie and his crew to make sure that we were happy and received the best possible result. I highly recommend Country Carpenter.
Description of Work: Country Carpenter recently built a gorgeous large new deck for us and we would HIGHLY recommend them. We requested that the deck be built from the hardwood Ipe (Brazilian Walnut or ironwood) and Ronnie had considerable experience using this wood, that is difficult to work with. We provided a sketch of the deck design that we wanted, but left many of the details to Ronnie. Ronnie was willing to work with our plan and was able to complete the deck from start to finish, including the demolition of a very large old deck, construction, sealing the Ipe boards before and after deck assembly, and doing all the electrical work for lights on the deck. In short, they are a "one stop shop!"

Ronnie (owner) came out within a few days to bid the job and give suggestions on material, etc. The bid was competitive so I gave price, a B. Hard to compare a complete job to a bid job. If quality is better than other bidders then it is an excellent price. My job was smaller than most so Ronnie was able to fit me into his schedule rather quickly! One of his construction guys spent roughly two days mostly on his own. My renters told me he was really nice. The deck is solid and nice looking. Most importantly I felt like I could trust Ronnie to do the support structure right! Because Ronnie also does other outdoor structures I may be using him again at the property where I live.

Ronnie was very easy to get in touch with for an estimate and showed up on time and was very professional. His knowledge was very evident and we felt comfortable using him after getting six other estimates. His prices were not the cheapest but not the most expensive and he reasonably explained what we were getting for our money. Ronnie always responded to emails quickly and answered any questions we had. He even made suggestions on how to reduce costs to our deck, while still getting most of what we wanted. Ronnie's crew was very professional and extremely timely. They finished the project in the exact amount of time they had initially said. They also were kind to my two young daughters who were around and curious! We absolutely love our new deck and can't wait to enjoy it for a very long time. I highly recommend Ronnie and will definitely use him again in the future for other projects.

We are very happy with our new multi level deck. The workmanship is excellent. Ronnie was easy to work with. He and his crew showed up when they were expected and phone calls or emails were returned promptly. We enjoyed working with Ronnie, his design ideas were well thought out and he made good use of our space. He even rebuilt the stairs after he decided he didn't like his original layout and I'm glad he did, the completed layout looks fantastic. We did wait several months for the project to begin and it was well worth the wait. I would absolutely use his services again and have already recommended him to friends and neighbors.

We wanted a large covered deck in the rear of our house that had to match a curved exterior wall and curved cement deck. Not a simple task. Ronnie came out and spent an hour or so walking through the project and looking at some concept sketches we had done. He never actually wrote anything down... The crew came out several months later (as scheduled) and started building this thing from the ground up. We were using Trex so the deck support system became very complex due to the smaller joist spacing and the curvature issues. Cement pads were poured for the 6x6 support posts. The really complex part was creating the headers and ceiling joists that had to extend from the curved wall and match the curved edge of the existing patio. The ceiling was added using 1" pine and because of the curves every board had to be cut to fit. There isn't a single straight cut in any board in the entire covered deck. Amazing. This was all custom fit as they went along. The end result is absolutely stunning. All electrical work is hidden, gas lines are easily assessable right where they need to be, accent lighting is perfect and they added bench seats and planter boxes between the main support posts. Ronnie's crew are extremely professional and neat, they were a pleasure to have around. I will be using these guys again. I highly recommend their work. Ask him for pictures of our deck!

Ronnie had a manpower problem all summer. No extra help was available. All able bodies had jobs, which was a good thing overall. But we were in no rush as long as it was finished before the first snowfall. He got a bit behind on other projects, so our job started a couple of weeks late, again which was fine. The only other delays were waiting for suppliers to get the railings and glass ready. Ronnie is a smart, dedicated man, and his crew reflected his dedication to quality. Thanks to TC, Darryl, and Eric, too, Ronnie's work horses. This is a great outfit, and we highly recommend them. If a potential customer would like to see our project we would welcome a visit and consultation. --Dave and Susie Felthous Seattle

Country Carpenter was the low bidder. Excellent work. Our new cedar deck looks great. We had to deal with communication problems about details of what we wanted. Ronnie worked it through with us and took care of everything. A take away from the project for us is how to handle details that are too small to affect the estimate. It's good to list the details in writing and review them with the contractor prior to the start of the project. Ronnie had to make a couple adjustments along the way that added to the time on the project.

Ronnie completed my trex deck after it was started by another contractor who disappeared on me. He had to redo some cement footings, completed the stairs, banisters, railings, cement landing pad and fixed some load bearing beams that were set incorrectly. He then went over the whole deck to ensure other parts of it weren't also done incorrectly. Ronnie is a great carpenter and puts out a great finished product. He was so easy to work with, kept the job site clean and promised to make sure my deck was right. He was very knowledgeable and had a good eye on what still needed to be done or what needed to be redone. I would definitely use Ronnie again for other projects.
Description of Work: Ronnie did a wonderful job finishing my trex deck. I have a contractor disappear with only half the work completed. Ronnie was able to step in, redo some shoddy work done by the first contractor and complete the deck. Had a few bids and Country Carpenter came in the lowest. Decided to go with C.C. after reading all the member's review. Initially, we had Ronnie and his crew replace the wooden front deck with Trek. Ronnie was very accommodating with change requests and finished job as quoted. We were so impressed with the front deck that we asked Ronnie to do the back deck, as well. Ronnie and crew completed job and we were, again, impress with workmanship. If i had to do over again I would have replaced the decks in the summer time instead of during the rainy season (Fall of 2012). I say that because Ronnie and crew just recently came back to finish sanding and staining the wood railings. Nevertheless, Ronnie and his crew were very professional and outstanding to work with. I would definitely us C.C. again. Thanks Angie, as well.
Description of Work: Replaced the front deck and then the back deck.

I don't normally write online reviews but I want to take the time writing about the amazing works done by Ronnie and TC. They just completed building a Timbertech deck and a structure roof with skylines which covers the entire deck on our patio. I have high standard and pay attention to little details. I was probably listed as one of his most "hard to please" customers! Ronnie went "extra miles" to make sure everything turned out exactly how I wanted! The end products are strong, well built and beautiful. We couldn't be happier:)

When we purchased our house the carport was described as "at the end of it's useful life". What that means is that it was leaking, unstable, and dangerous. I had originally thought of putting up a large deck and putting the carport underneath so I called 3 or 4 builders for advice and quotes. Ronnie responded promptly. Came out to the house and had a look around and then he gave me the honest advice that no one else did. He said, don't waste your money on the deck / carport. We can put a great carport in here and you can spend that additional money redoing the outdoor living space in the back of the house. He pointed out that we would probably not use the deck due to its exposure to the street so we could potentially rethink our plan. I was so impressed with his honesty and straight forward attitude. He did a great job. We love our new carport. Not only it is super stable and beautiful, it doesn't leak at all and is several feet higher so I don't bump my head on it all the time. As they were removing the old carport we found that some of our beams were rotten (eaten away by an old ant infestation). Ronnie and his team were professionals. They gave us options and openly discussed the challenges. Not only do I trust his to do the right thing, I am excited about all of the other projects I have around the house that need to be done.
Description of Work: Removal of an existing carport. Built a new attached carport.
