Over the phone they told me the tank, delivery, & earthquake straps would cost $975. Anything else required would be extra. When the plumber arrived he said straps were not included, & the whole deal was going to cost $2,200! After some discussion the day was saved when I produced a $1,550 estimate from another plumber. Then he made yet another call to the office & did a beautiful installation for $1,475.00.
Description of Work: As a contractor with Home Depot, they delivered a hot water tank from Home Depot to my home & installed it.

BECAUSE WE HAVE TO BRING WATER HEATERS UP TO STATE CODE IN THE STATE OF WASHINGTON, WE DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE WORK HAS TO BE DONE UNTIL WE ARE AT THE JOBSITE. THERE ARE MANY HANDYMEN AND PLUMBERS THAT WILL DO WORK WITHOUT PULLING PERMITS, BUT WE ARE NOT ONE OF THEM. THIS CUSTOMER REQUIRED: A) AN EARTHQUAKE KIT, B) A DRIP PAN WITH DRAIN, C) A NEW SHUTOFF VALVE D) AN EXPANSION TANK DUE TO HER SYSTEM BEING A CLOSED SYSTEM, D) MODIFICATIONS OF THE PLUMBING BECAUSE THE NEW TANK WAS SIGNIFICANTLY TALLER THAN THE OLD TANK. FURTHER, THIS WAS A 65 GALLON TANK AND THEREFORE THE TANK WAS EXPENSIVE. WE NEVER BEGIN WORK WITHOUT A FULL QUOTE. IF THE CUSTOMER WAS NOT HAPPY WITH THE COST, THEY HAVE THE OPTION TO FIND ANOTHER CONTRACTOR.

They came out too late in the evening (started at 8:30 P.M.) even though they promised they would be there by 3 P.M. The techs were very nice (Nick and Alex) and fast. The problems came afterward. Somehow the circuit breaker got tripped and the water would not get hot (after they left). I attempted to reset the breaker with Alex's help to no avail. They came out, "reset" it and then we got hot water. They charged me $140 to come out again when they should have made sure that the water started getting hot before they left the first time. They bonded the gas and water pipes which the building inspector said was unnecessary and gave us a credit for the $89. Building inspector said that drip pan needed to be drained to the outside, and they told us it would require drilling to the outside wall (our foundation is solid concrete, no sub-floor), and they didn't even bother to check that there was already a drain in the next closet for the washer/dryer. They nickel-and-dimed me for every little thing (P&T discharge line, relief valve union, drip pan, etc.). Since I went through Home Depot, it would have been nice if they would just give us a "flat fee" instead of all this other fees. They had to come out 3 times (1st time to install unit, 2nd time to reset circuit breaker, 3rd time to resolve wall-drilling issue). The refund check had misspelled my name (Kevin instead of Calvin) so I need to call them back to have them reprint it. All in all this was a bad experience. Home Depot contracts this work out and sent this company to us. Since they did all the work, I'm reviewing their work instead of Home Depot's work. Thanks, Calvin

We woke up to no hot water on a Sunday. After researching on line, we removed the burner assembly and took it to the local hardware to match the thermocouple. We realized that our thermocouple was not the standard one sold in hardware stores and returned home to call for service. I explained everything over the phone to Fast, and gave the model and serial number of our water heater. They scheduled service for the next day. He did show up on time. However, when he got there, he just looked at the burner assembly and said, "we'll have to order that part." He didn't check the part for voltage, he didn't clean out the water heater, but he did charge me $174 and said it would cost $174 again for them to come back and install the part. I asked him to call the company to see if they would be willing to negotiate that charge, since they should have known (based on my conversation and the model/serial number) before coming out that the part would have to be ordered. They were in fact an "authorized service provider" for my brand of water heater, so they should have had the part in stock. I called the water heater company to order the part (Fast thought it might be faster for me to order the part since it was under warranty), but the water heater company questioned why I didn't have a voltage reading to prove that the part had failed. I explained the whole story, and she had me call and talk to someone else at the company. He got Fast on the phone at the same time and talked it over. He also questioned why Fast didn't even perform any preventative maintenance on the water heater. Fast said that since we had taken the burner assembly out ourselves, they didn't want to do anything in case we had screwed something up. Again, they knew before they came out that we had already removed the burner assembly. They have been placed on 'watch' by the water heater company to ensure that this is not typical behavior on the part of Fast. Ultimately, we were without hot water for 4 days, but when the part arrived, we installed it ourselves, rather than give Fast another $174. I would have gladly paid them $174 for them to install and service the water heater, but I felt $350 was WAY too much, especially after 4 days of cold showers.

I will never call FAST again. We were sent to them when we called a home-improvement store when our 10 year old water heater died. We had a bid over the phone from that store, but when FAST arrived, it was almost double. They came up with so many things we needed: a new pan, an expansion tank, a charge for one straight flight of stairs to the basement, a permit, etc. Then, two years later, our GE Water Heater they supplied via the home improvement store started leaking. We called the store and they sent FAST out. Fast wrote a bid that would have cost us $670 to replace a water heater that was on warranty! It would have cost $300 for labor, $60 for a new pan (couldn't use the 2-year old one!), a new expansion tank, which they said must have also failed (after two years!!!) for $150, another permit charge of $50 and another stair charge of $50, plus tax. We called them to complain, saying the tank was only 2 years old, and did not get a good response. We told them we thought it should all be covered and after talking to the water heater manufacturer, the home improvement store and FAST, we were told we needed to pay for it all. We checked through all our paperwork and found we DID have a Service Contract through the manufacturer that was to cover everything for 24 years!!! We feel that FAST has been very unprofessional and takes the charges up much higher than necessary. We have had other companies replace water heaters in the past, and are very sorry we went that route this time and were ever exposed to the people at FAST.

WE DO APOLOGIZE TO THIS CUSTOMER BUT WE BELIEVE THERE COMPLAINT IS WITH THE WARRANTY PROVIDER. AS SHE POINTED OUT, THE BASIC LABOR IN THIS CASE SHOULD BE COVERED BY HER WARRANTY PROVIDER, GE. BECAUSE THE GE WARRANTY PROCESS IS A CHALLENGE, WE DO HAVE TO COLLECT FROM CUSTOMERS ON THESE WARRANTIES AND THEY MUST SEEK REIMBURSEMENT FROM GE. WE UNFORTUNATELY HAD TO MOVE TO THIS PROCESS SIMPLY BECAUSE THE OVERHEAD ASSOCIATED WITH PROCESSING GE WARRANTIES IS ASTRONOMICAL. OUR JOB NOTES SHOW THAT IN FACT THIS CUSTOMER'S EXPANSION TANK DID FAIL WHICH MAY HAVE BEEN WHAT LED TO PREMATURE FAILURE OF THE WATER HEATER. SO, WE DID HAVE TO DO THIS WORK. WE UNDERSTAND WHY THE CUSTOMER IS FRUSTRATED GIVEN THAT THEIR TANK WAS ONLY TWO YEARS OLD. HOWEVER, WE FEEL THEIR ISSUE IS WITH THE WARRANTY PROVIDER. IN THIS CASE, THEIR BEST BET IS TO WORK WITH GE DIRECTLY AND FIND A SERVICE AGENT THAT WILL COLLECT FROM GE RATHER THAN FROM HER DIRECTLY. WE DO FIND THAT GE WARRANTIES ARE UNIQUE IN THIS MANNER COMPARED TO OTHER MAJOR WATER HEATER BRANDS (RHEEM, AO SMITH, STATE).

Sorry to submit this bad review for a company that seems to otherwise fare very well on Angie's List, but... We were connected to FAST via the Home Depot. FAST contacted us to get the exact model number of our existing hot water heater. On a Thursday, one hour later than their scheduled arrival time window, the FAST plumber arrived and discovered he had the wrong tank (our was a direct vent propane tank). The explanation was that a new person had checked the model # of our tank. He provided a written estimate, and we agreed he would return the following Tuesday. The estimate included a pressure reduction valve. Two plumbers arrived about an hour late Tuesday morning, and they didn't have a tank with them, because they said the nearest one was in Bellingham, plus the pressure reduction valve they had was for the wrong sized pipe. After nearly a week, and taking off from work two days to handle this repair, we switched to Washington Water Heaters, who did a great job.
Description of Work: Attempted installation of replacement propane hot water heater and pressure reduction valve on two separate visits to our home. The only service actually provided was an estimate.

The rep was honest and told us that with low pressure we'd be very unhappy with a tankless system. I really appreciated that. Their standard tank replacement estimate was 50% higher than several others I'd received so I decided to go with someone else. However, the initial tankless estimate was on par with others and very thorough. I would call them for an estimate again in the future when our water system is upgraded.
Description of Work: Requested estimate for Tankless Water Heater installation. The representative came to the house at the scheduled time and looked over our situation. After some discussion it became clear that our water pressure was too low to support a tankless system. So I asked for and received a quote on a standard tank replacement

Jason and Teddy were extremely friendly, professional and left the workspace spotless. After living in the Issaquah/Seattle area for 2 1/2 years, this is the first good experience with local repair people. We felt the estimate fair and had complete confidence in their ability to get the job done correctly. We cannot thank these guys enough!
Description of Work: Fast Water Heater Co. came out quickly to replace old leaky water heater. Unfortunately, due to updated codes, our old gas water heater was in serious violation. They came up with three scenarios which we could choose from, finally settling on replacing the old gas "violator" with an electric model. We were given a new itemized estimate and they had the model we needed on the truck. They installed the new tank, earthquake straps, capped off old gas and vent lines, and installed a new expansion tank.

I called Fast Water Heater at 10am 10/13/07, and the work was performed the next day (Sunday). Jeff was professional and personable. He seemed to work fast and the quality of the work seems to be top notch. The end bill was almost twice what was quoted over the phone, but this was because of faulty parts we had that needed to be replaced, or county code changes that forced a change; things that the scheduler could not have known. The additional parts seemed a bit inflated, but what can you do when you're in the moment? You'd probably experience this with any company, so just be aware and be ready. Jeff made sure to explain the what and the why and ask if that was what we wanted to do, before he did it.
Description of Work: Jeff Z. was our technician. He called a half hour before his arrival as promised, and he was a half-hour early, which was great. He replaced our water heater, expansion tank, exhaust pipe, gas and water pipes as needed.

The work went well. The company and staff were professional. The technician answered my copious questions. In particular, we talk about whether to put the tanks in series or in parallel and he suggested in parallel so each tank would bear similar load in heating and if one tank went out, the other could be used by itself. The valve work he put in place allowed me to shut off one tank if required. The technician seemed to take pride in his work. To do the work they had to do some code upgrades (seismic bands connected to wall, pressure release tank, leak pans under the tanks). They told me about these before the work started. I negotiated free seismic bands because I was doing two water heaters.

Called Saturday morning, quoted price ($499) and Redmond permit ($87.82.) Did not mention other (Redmond only?) items: drip pan -- thin, looks cheap $49; expansion tank $149. Offered to install Redmond-required hot-to-cold gnd connection $49 & water alarm $39. I opted to install these items myself: $21.14 parts at a home improvement store. Plumber arrived Sat afternoon at time promised. Friendly & very competent. Installation complete & gone in 1-1/2 hours; clean-up complete. Very Satisfactory overall.

It went very well and exactly as priced. They easily scheduled to fit my calendar. John was prompt to do the estimate and to do the work. He worked quickly and neatly and cleaned up afterward. It is a nice, solid installation in a semi-tight spot. The cold showers are over. The permit came by mail within two weeks later and the inspector who came this morning was positively impressed.
Description of Work: John replaced a 50-gallon electric water heater in my laundry room. The old one had leaked and damaged the floor and wall, so he added a pan underneath and a leak-detecting, alarming, automatic stop valve on the inlet. I had him add an expansion tank, in case the water people ever put a backflow preventer in at my meter. He raised the water heater a couple of inches and added earthquake straps to meet current code.

Fast Water Heaters came in about a week after our phone call, did the estimate. They were the lowest credible estimate within our time limits. The fast water heater tech was easy to get along with and was a professional in his job. The unfortunate part of the water heater replacement, which had nothing to do with the installer, was that some carpentry was needed in order to remove the electric water heater tank. Also, to save some money, the water heater tech suggested we buy the necessary supplemental equipment like a kit, drip pan, etc. Also, depending on which city you live in, a permit which you purchase will be needed for an inspector to come out and make sure everything is to code. Cost was fair for the services rendered.

Several months after the heater was installed, I noticed that it was plumbed wrong. The cold water was coming in through the hot outlet and the hot water was coming out the cold inlet, forcing the water through the heater in the opposite direction that it was designed for. On Dec 21, I notified Home Depot and they thought it wasn't their problem - call Fast. I did and was greeted with nothing but rudeness. They said that as long as I was getting hot water, there was no problem and I would be charged a service call if they came out and decided this. They would not send a service person for a week. I proceeded to have an independent plumber repair Fast's bad installation. Fast has yet to reimburse me for this after several calls and more rudeness.
