The overall experience was great. I told the whole story in the space describing services performed.
Description of Work: I called Fast Water to get a quote for a new 50 gallon electric water heater. I spoke with John who was very professional & answered the questions I had at that moment. I called a few more places for quotes & that brought up more questions. So, I called John again. He was again very professional & answered the rest of my questions. Out of all the quotes Fast Water was the most specific, within a few dollars either way & had the highest discount. When I scheduled installation they were able to give me the date & window of time I wanted. John again went over basic pricing & made sure I understood there might, once on sight, be additional costs but the installer would go over them with me before starting. I was bracing myself for a hard sell for upgrades. The day of installation Mitch called ahead to let me know when to expect him. He inspected the old water heater & wrote down some code requirements & some suggested upgrades. I was pleasantly surprised that there was no hard sell & some of the suggestions made sense. Mitch also was very professional, nice & very knowledgeable. He installed the new water heater with the additional things I agreed to. He was done within a couple hours & left the place clean.

We had FAST install our Hot Water Heater about 10 years ago (also excellent service) and it has run perfectly during that time. Around the 1st week of November we started having issues with the T&P valve allowing water to escape and pool under the tank. After calling FAST, they promptly came out to investigate. They found out the water heater was in good working condition, and that the problem was with the expansion tank (mounted on top the water heater). Sure enough, once the old one was removed and new unit installed, the problem went away! No more water on the floor! :-) It was nice to have a $380 fix instead of needing a new water heater!! Thanks again!

Overall, I am thrilled with the experience, and if I have any future needs I will definitely use Fast Water Heater again, and will recommend them to friends. They've earned my trust. I first contacted them late Sunday afternoon, and based on my need (water heater was still producing a small amount of hot water, no leaks, etc.) they were able to get someone out the next day, with an estimate of 3-5pm. Dennis called ahead at 3pm to say he was en route, and arrived at approximately 3:10pm, which I consider to be quite prompt given the 2 hour range provided. He was polite and cheerful throughout, and was happy to remove his shoes at the entryway at my request. He asked me to show him the water heater, asked me a few questions to diagnose the likely problem with it, presented me with options for how to address the problem assuming the diagnosis was correct, and then got right to work verifying the problem, for which his initial diagnosis was indeed correct. He was fine left alone working on it, but still happy to answer questions and explain what he was doing when I was curious. The entire thing was wrapped up and completed in slightly over an hour, and an hour after that (after the water heater was done warming up a fresh tankful of water) we were back to enjoying having a steady stream of hot water in our house.
Description of Work: Dennis came out to replace my electric water heater, but upon inspection said that he would be able to fix it if I preferred (which I did!). He gave me options and recommendations, and I agreed with adding an expansion tank to the water heater. He was very professional, punctual, explained what he was doing and why, and got his work done rapidly and efficiently. He followed up with an explanation and walk-through of the work he did, showed me the replaced parts, answered questions I had about maintenance, and made sure we would be able to reach him if we had any questions or problems in the near future.

I contacted Fast Water Heater via their website and was promised a follow-up by Monday. They called first thing Monday morning and were able to come out the same day - between 1:30 and 3:30pm. I received a firm quote for the job over the phone with the caveat there could be further expenses for add-on items (expansion tanks, valves, etc). My installer, Jacob, called at about 1:15 to say he'd be there at 1:45. He did the job quickly and neatly, explaining all details of the job. I needed a new expansion tank and he gave me the cost up-front before proceeding with the work. I was really impressed with the level of service provided and the quality of the work. The price was more than reasonable - less than I paid for a similar job back in 2005. I highly recommend this company!
Description of Work: My existing water heater was 12 years old and near the end of its life. I discovered a leak near the top of the unit over the weekend and realized the time had come to replace it.

I called Fast to replace an existing tankless water heater that had failed. I gave them the model number and told them the plumbing fixtures and the gas line were already in place, I simply wanted a new unit installed. The Fast phone rep quoted me a lowball price for a new tankless water heater and for the install work. I had read reviews from numerous customers saying that Fast had a tendency to add extra charges and costs to the original estimate once they came out to do the job, but I went ahead and made an appointment for service because we had no hot water! Immediately upon arrival the service tech began by telling me that this job involved "way more work" than what he thought he was going to be doing. He launched in to a convoluted discussion of technical specifications and started saying that if this was the city of Redmond, this job "wouldn't pass" inspection. He then told me the price quoted was for a unit that "won't work in this location" and that the existing gas line (3/4 inch) would have to be upgraded to a one inch line to "bring this up to code". I told him that was ridiculous, that a city of Bellevue inspector had looked at the gas pipe size and found it to be adequate. This "gas pipe upgrade" was going to cost an additional $500 for 15 feet of new larger pipe. I told him that I had done numerous remodels and was familiar with honest bidding practices. He then said that he "might be able to work something out" and called his supervisor. After 30 minutes on the phone, he came back and told me that we would have to "upgrade" to a different, i.e. MORE EXPENSIVE water heater and that the charge to install that unit would be over $1000, but that he was giving me a "discount of $272. I asked him to explain what the "discount" entailed, but could not get a clear explanation. In addition, he told me his supervisor said we should upgrade the gas pipe size anyway to "make the new water heater burner run better". He showed me his technicians install manual to verify this additional cost for installation. While looking at this manual I also saw the cost for the install on the unit the phone rep recommended was the same at $1000. When I asked him why I was quoted approx. $329 over the phone for one unit and now $1000+ another unit, plus a new "upgraded gas line", he became apologetic and told me that a "mistake" had been made. I now felt I was getting a total run around and that their sales practice was a scam. When I asked why he didn't me give a written estimate, he told me he didn't want me to "wonder what he was doing for all that time sitting in his truck " and that I might think he was doctoring the numbers. I told him I didn't appreciate him giving me the run around, that I thought the entire presentation of cost upgrades to "bring this up to code" was a scam and that I wanted a written estimate. This whole experience made me very angry. Would not recommend or use Fast in the future. I called Foxx plumbing. They sent out an estimator. He was polite, professional, clear and gave me an excellent price for a job the same day. I recommend Foxx plumbing. '

We did not install the original water heater that had failed. The tankless unit was improperly installed. The customer had B vent hooked up to a tankless water heater which is a large problem (tankless water heaters of the type the customer has require stainless steel vent due to heat) and the gas line was undersized. An undersized gas line on a tankless water heater can starve the unit and can in some cases cause your other appliances to also soot up. We are sorry the customer was not happy with our quote but the unit was installed incorrectly originally. It failed prematurely and when we found issues (that were not minor) on the original installation that were problematic, the customer was upset. The actual installation was dangerous and we could not have move forward in the way the customer wanted us to because it would have left what is bad construction and possibly a dangerous installation at the customer's home.

(See story above) Fast replaced a 16 year old water heater updating the installation to code.
Description of Work: (Services performed is in the box below -- sorry)I called Fast on Tuesday 9/4/12 requesting a new water heater to replace one that was 16 years old. Jake, the sales rep, was polite and accommodating on the phone and gave me options and an estimated cost. He also informed me of some costs that may arise and wanted to make sure I was aware of these costs (permit, possible cost to move my dryer, and other code-type possibilities). The sales rep, Jake, also encouraged me to call him back if when the tech arrived I had any questions or concerns with the final cost. Although it was not an emergency, I was able to get service that afternoon between 2-4 pm. The tech, Brandon, arrived right after 2 pm. After looking over the current water heater, he gave me a detailed estimate which was about $300 more than I had expected. Although the price was higher than expected, what I really appreciated was the collaboration with Brandon, me, and Jake. Jake had pre-warned me about additional costs so it wasn't a total surprise, but it was more than I had anticipated. I think Brandon was only trying to do the best work for me and wanted to make sure the job was properly done to code. In the end, they worked together with me to get the total cost down to a more manageable amount for me. We all made compromises -- but all along the way, they were professional, clear, and fair. I had used Fast before and I checked on Angie's List first to see how they were rated and decided to give them a call first. I will continue to use them because of their professionalism and consideration for the customer.

I called FAST to find out what they would charge to do the service bulliten and was told "159 for service call 250 an hour after that' Explained I had a service bulliten Ineeded a qoute for- phone person said again: "Tech will analyze thAt when he gets there.. 159 service calll and 250 an hour after that." I explained I would be happy to email them the service bulliten so they could give me an accurate qoute Call center reponse was "tech will analyze it after he gets there. 150 for the servce call, 250 an hour after that. I asked didnt it make sense that the tech MIGHT need to know what he was going to do before he showed up so he had the proper parts and tools? Thats not the way we do it" said the person on the phone. I infrmed them I had NO DESIRE to ever to business with them. The folks at Brennan Heating and air conditioning were most helpful and I would recommend them over FAST any day.

Found my water heater was leaking around noon. Looked up recommendations on Angies List. Called Fast Water Heater based on the good reviews. Jackie was very helpful answering all my questions, provided a rough estimate and verified they had what I needed in stock. Tom came out a couple hours later and took care of replacing my water heater. No high-pressure upgrades (the only one offered was a pan, which I went forward with). Total price seemed very reasonable based on seeing what other people have been paying. I would definitely recommend Fast and would use them again.

They came out promptly and after 5 pm. The person that installed the water heater did it by himself. I felt sorry for him. The estimate was under $1000 and the final cost was $1500. They kept adding $30 for pan, 50 for earthquake frame....etc. I would have appreciated a more realistic estimate. The way they did this it felt like a scam.

We are sorry you were not happy with us. We do try to make it clear on the phone that we really don't know the final price until we see the location. The reason for this is that we are 100% legal company which means we pull permits on all of our work. Due to this, we are supposed to bring it up to WA state plumbing code. If your water heater was up to code and all we had to do was a simple swap out, then we could give a firm price over the phone. We try to make this clear to customers in two ways: 1) We explain this on every call. 2) We send a follow up e-mail after you book that lists the things that might come up. Also, unlike most plumbing companies, we do not charge you to just come out. So, if you are unhappy with the quote, we can leave and there is no charge. Finally, we are confident we are the most competitively priced if we are compared with a licnensed contractor doing the work to code. If you find someone who would have done it less expensively, we will beat that price by 5%. Thanks for your business. We are sorry we were not able to live up to your expectations.

I had a tankless water installed. We decided to go with the tankless so that there was ample hot water for several hot showers in the morning. At the time, I asked the installer very explicitly, is there any reason we should NOT go with the tankless. He said other than it being more expensive, no. Since the time of our install, we have not been able to use the dishwasher. The heater is too far away from the dishwasher upstairs and since the dishwasher needs hot water on demand this was not a good option. It takes over one minute to get hot water to the sink. Today we had a plummer come out to provide guidance on getting hot water to the dishwasher, it will cost us another $1k to retrofit our plumbing to allow use of the dishwasher. I would have expected Fast water heater company to understand the implications to our dishwasher and be honest with us up front. We did call them a few days after the install to describe the problem and they simply told us they were not responsible for impacts to our appliances. And while I understand they are not responsible for our dishwasher functioning, I would have appreciated them being more honest with us and/or being knowledgeable enough to understand how if would effect the dishwasher.

In addtion to the difficulty i faced with getting them to respond "fast", i was also dissapointed with the quality of the instal. There were two shortfalls I can speak two: one, (may be trial) i was not home when they did the install, but I could see they dilled multiple holes through the wall for exhaust or drip lines, which thry wound up not ising, and just filled with silicone caulk. Asthetically, not very attractive, and calls into question shy they drilled the - did they think they need them, or did they drill in the wrong places the first time ( there are exhaust and drip lines installed, just not in those places) . Two, I spoke with the installer the day before he did gte work, and we talked sbout how ghe unit would need to exhaust to be code compliant. He told me it needed to vent at least a foot from sny doors or windows, and i told him that was not okay wigh me, and that i wanted the line run an extra three or four feet to keep it further from the door it would be next to. He said I didnt need to eorry about that because the unit burned very efficirntly, so ther was no chance of gas venting from the line. I told him ghat i still wanted ghe extra distance. When i came home after the install, I saw that he only went one foot fro the door. I regret now that I did not complain immediately. Based on my experience, I can not recommend Fast Water Heater.
Description of Work: I bought an Eternal tankless water heater from Fast. They installed it in a tmely manor, but even though I understood that they would take care of the permits, I got a letter in the mail later saying I would have to have the inspector come out myself after the work was done. I thought I was paying for the whole ordeal go be handled for me, but that isn't what I got. I was happy enough with the overall experience at that point that I let it go. I didn't complain or post anything negative at the time, thinking maybe I just missunderstood. Then, today (1 day before my 1 year labor warranty was up), we came downstairs to find the laundry room was covered in water as water poured from the Eternal Water Heater they installed. I immediately called Fast, and found them dissapointingly unresponsive. The guy in the phone was polite, but unable to do anything for me today. He kept telling me the soonest he could send someone out was tomorrow. I feel like I was taken by Fast, because they recommended this unit, saying that because it is all stainless it would probably outlast its 20 year warranty, and was worth the high price tag it commanded. But when it broke before a year was up, spilling a continual stream of water all over the floor (and running under the laminate in the neighboring rooms -fostering who knows what kind of mold growth), they were either unwilling or unable to send someone out the same day. I explained that I chose Fast Water Heater to do the install because I thought they would be able to stand behind their product and provide fast (as their name implies) service if I ever needed it, but I was wrong to have done so, because they were clearly not meeting that expectation. As far as I can tell, Fast Water Heater is either understaffed to be able to respond "fast", or they do not care enough about customer satisfaction to do so. Either way, in my opinion, they have not earned their self imposed namesake of "Fast".

We apologize that we were not able to come out the same day. We are also sorry if there was a mis-communication on the permitting. Because you have to be there to let the inspector in - we try to give you everything you need to schedule the inspection. We have found most customers appreciate this as it gets rid of the middle man and makes things smoother (one phone call instead of multiple). Unfortunately, the Eternal unit has had some product issues. We are working with the manufacturer to get all of those resolved. We apologize that you had to deal with this.

Our installer Chris, arrived on time. He did a great job of explaining the process. He gave us prices for all the "extras" but was not pushy about it when we declined some of the recommended services. He did a quick job of removing the old and installing the new and didn't even wake up our sleeping baby! We also got to use and Angie's List coupon, which saved us some money. The whole thing was easy and painless. Highly recommend these guys.

No issues, great installation. Installer Rich was here on time, performed pre-work inspection, which revealed 3 code violations (plumbing code had changed in 12 years), which were resolved during the install. Removal of the old tank, and installation of the new one, took about 2 hours total. We opted for a 15 year, maintenance-free 50 gallon tank. Inspection paperwork arrived quickly, several days after the install from Fast, and inspection lasted all of 10 minutes with SnoCo inspector. I would highly recommend Fast to anyone, they made the whole process really easy. :)

They came out and did the work. We did not have any bad experience with them. They were in and out in a reasonable amount of time. I would recommend them. I would call them in the future.

This company practices giving VERY lowball estimates over the phone, and then when they get there they inflate the price a great deal, hoping that since you already took time off and waited around for them you feel kind of stuck and will go ahead with a bad deal.. BEWARE. This company gave me a bid over the phone of $1419 for a 50 gallon tank with "standard installation package" (which, BTW, seems to include nothing other than the water heater.) They asked me for the age, brand, make, and model number of my old water heater, so they knew at the time of the bid that it was 15 years old. They said there "might be additional charges if we need to bring things up to code". When the technician arrived, he spent 20 minutes totaling up what the charges would be. They tacked on $600 of charges to their phone estimate, $450 of which was to "bring things up to code", the other $150 was to replace a faulty overflow tank. This really made me angry, as they knew that I hadn't replaced a water heater in 15 years and would likely need whatever new valves and earthquake straps are required. While I was running down to the basement to tell them the model number of the old heater, they could just as easily asked me 'does it have earthquake straps?' "have you had any of the connections or fittings upgraded since it was installed?" Because if not, these items will add HUNDREDS of dollars to your estimate. Their estimate came in at over $2000 - more than a previous estimate of $1720 from a company who came out to the house to give a firm bid. I had thought maybe this company would come in less because of the bid they gave over the phone - no such luck. I was adamant that I would not accept the bid and was planning to have the other, less expensive company do the work. The technician got on the phone to the manager and somehow they were suddenly able to meet the price of their competitor. To the credit of the technician, he seemed a bit embarrassed by the low ball estimate and having to charge me for every hole drilled ($9.50 per hole!) and water connector. He did a good job installing it and it works fine.

Response from Fast Water Heater Company
First - apologies for taking a while to respond to this. We have not done a good job of monitoring Angie's List feedback. With regards to bringing this up to code - you are required by law to do this. However, there are over 20-30 codes related to water heating. Some homes are 100% code compliant already, some homes are not. Most customers do not want to go through every item over the phone. And, because every home is different, we don't know what work will need to be done until we get there. The expansion tank that we replaced for example - you only need an expansion tank when a home is on a "closed" as opposed to "open" plumbing system. So, just for this one code (and there are many) we would have to ask you: - Do you have an open or closed plumbing system? - (If closed...) Do you have an expansion tank? - (If yes...) Has the membrane ruptured or is it working? We do explain that we have to do a site survey before we can give you an accurate price. We explain this both over the phone and also in the e-mail that verifies the appointment. Regardless, it sounds like you were fine with the work but not with our price. I realize this is belated - but we do have a "best price guarantee" as long as we are comparing "apples to apples". If your other quote was also going to perform the work to bring it up to code - we will honor their price and beat it by 5%. Please contact us and ask for manager Mike and mention this AL response to your compaint.

I contacted the company via their website twice (12/5/11 & 12/7/11) for a bid on a gas water heater and they have yet to get back to me. I have not yet chosen a company to do the job, but it would be nice if they would respond somewhat promptly.

Because a home visit is required and we need to speak with you to finalize a time, we generally recommend that you call us rather than email. We are open 7 am to 8 pm Monday through Friday and 8 am to 5 pm Saturday and Sunday.

On Friday afternoon I discovered my hot water heater had a major leak. Since it was 20 yrs old I knew I needed a new unit. I checked Angie's list and then called FAST Water Heater Co. I spoke with John who explained my options on size and warranty. He also explained that since my heater was 20 yrs old many of the connections would be out of code. We agreed to a price and he told me he could get someone out the next day. I explained that we had 50 people scheduled for a Christmas party that night. John said he would call me back, which he did in about 10 min. He said he had rescheduled some appointments and a team would be to my home in a couple of hours. Two hours later, Brandon and Jacob showed up with a new water tank.. They were competent and efficient and had my new tank installed with appropriate code upgrades in about 3 hours. From start to finish I was more than impressed with the whole transaction. I would very highly recommed FAST to anyone in need of this typw of service. Additionally, I was never asked to write a positive report on my experience. Thank you FAST and thank you Angie's List for giving me confidence in calling them.
Description of Work: Installed new hot water tank with appropriate code upgrades.
