Brad and his crew were professional, straight-talking and a pleasure to deal with from bid to final clean up. Once Brad bid the job and we accepted, Larry and Brian and their crews quickly went about the remodel as planned and promised. We were out of town for the bulk of the work and our neighbors commented how impressed they were with BH Contracting. "They were here every day." "They really knew what they were doing." And, of course, the comment we've heard the most, "Your house looks fantastic!" We recommend this company.
Description of Work: Removed old siding, dry rotted and outdated decorative walls and platforms from the front of our home and installed new siding on the same exterior wall. Designed (with our input), built and installed an arbor which runs the length of the front of our home over our two-car garage. Replaced eight old aluminum frame windows with new vinyl windows. Removed dry-rotted siding from back of our home and replaced with new siding PLUS determined what caused the dry-rot and fixed the problem by installing flashing above the affected area.

This was basically a disaster handled well by the contractor. Work quality was excellent and they got things done as fast as they could. All the waiting involved ordering components we never expected to buy. I recommend these guys without reservation.
Description of Work: The job started out replacing a leaking skylight and front doors. The leak caused extensive damage to the kitchen wall down to the foundation and sub-flooring under the kitchen cabinets. So we had to do a full kitchen remodel, replacing cabinets, counters, sinks, and a cook-top.

BH was eager to start the project right away, which worked well for us. However, because of the quick start and our planned trip out of town, I felt rushed to make a flooring decision. Because of this rush, I choose a flooring, and a few days later had to change that order. This was costly, as I was required to pay for both flooring orders. The project started smoothly and went well until the dry wallers arrived; they arrived off schedule and had to redo their work to Larry's expectation. The second effort was done to our satisfaction, but the dry waller returned again at the end of the project to re-do the ceiling. As a side note, on the dry waller's third and final return, he was a tremendous help, as he discovered my hot water tank was leaking. While I called for assistance with the water tank, he turned off the water source and helped mop up the mess! I was grateful he was there to help. This remodel was initially expected to take two weeks, but it actually took nearly four weeks. We are happy with the end result and are enjoying our more spacious laundry room.
Description of Work: BH Contracting turned my much too-small laundry room into a roomy, pleasant space. Brad Wilson suggested the floor plan and provided a bid, one of four bids we obtained. Once we agreed upon the project, BH began work the following week. Larry Wimberly oversaw all work done by his employee, Brian, and the work of their subs. Our project began with knocking out half of the existing walls for the extension, and continued with building the wall frames and dry walling, installing the floor and ceiling, relocating the plumbing and electrical outlets, laying the new flooring and painting the walls. Once the room was complete, BH reinstalled the existing cabinets, sink, and baseboards. Larry's job was to make sure the work was done correctly and that we were happy with their work. We are very pleased with the final result!

It went pretty well. They were very timely and very friendly. The owner was professional and they were very fair in what they charged. They gave an estimate and when they had to make changes they checked with me first.

I would use them again. It's hard to believe that there are honest people in this line of work. Brad the owner of this company is to be congratulated on the excellent services that he gives to his clients.
Description of Work: Had water damage to my house from the patio which was poured incorrectly. The estimate and the way they approached the remodel was perfect. They were able to problem solve within the budget that was originally suggested. The office staff responded to phone calls etc and made the project seamless. Brian who worked on house was professional, cleaned up the mess and was able to communicate in a clear and definitive way. What I anticipated was that this job would be difficult because there was so many unknowns due to the water damage that could not be seen directly. They made it easy. I was happy to work with such great people and they finished on time!!!

Overall it was a long drawn out way to realize I needed to contact more remodeling contractors.
Description of Work: Tried unsuccessfully to get a bid from this small company. Remodeling a kitchen and adding a bathroom. It took awhile to even get the guy out to see our project and never managed to actually get a bid. I left 2-3 emails and a phone call. I played email tag with the contact listed on craigslist - Joy Fritch. Brad Wilson, the owner, called me back 2 + weeks ago to discuss the bid again even though I thought a bid was enroute. Turns out by the tone of the conversation that my project wasn't really worth doing because I wanted to do some of the tile work in the bathroom simply because I learned how to and wanted to and we were reusing the kitchen cabinets in the remodel as they are only 2 years old. The attitude I received was that all of this was just too much to deal with and that just ends up putting him behind schedule. I really got the impression that it just cut his profits too much and cut the price tag down that he really didn't want the job. Fair enough - just tell me that instead of dealing with it like it has been dealt with.

Estimates were long delayed and Brad was unresponsive to emailed reminders. Second bid came in 50% higher than first so either we were not on the same page or else there is a minimum-sized job beneath which BH Contracting is not interested. I chose not to proceed.

We are very happy with the job. BH did the job on a master bathroom. Brad, the owner, provided clearly written descriptions of improvements & their prices. There was a good selection at this suppliers. Larry the man in charge of our job and easy to contact & organized every thing perfectly. Workers were skilled, careful and courteous. The place was left clean & pleasant. BH honored their contract & prices. We can recommend them highly.

We found the water damage on a Sunday. We emailed the company and got a response by email on Monday. We scheduled the estimate to be the following week. After we got the estimate, I called them to get the license/bond numbers to check those out and the person who answers the phones promptly got that info and emailed me those plus the website to look it all up. They wrote up an estimate and started work the week after. The work took four 7:00 am - 5:30 days and about another half day spread out over a few days to finish up the different phases of finishing up the deck. They subcontracted the work extending the deck flashing up 8 inches and topcoating the deck. The main company was excellent with communication. The subcontractor was less diligent with communication (although the quality of the work was excellent), and the main company heard out my concerns about this and took steps to ensure that communication got better, and it did. All of the workers that came to the house were extremely polite, professional, and careful in their work. They draped off parts of the room they weren't working on and kept any of the mess of the work from ending up where it shouldn't. They ran plastic covering on the entire path (three flights of stairs) to the top floor where the deck is to protect our floors. They cleaned up the mess at the end of each day. Overall, we are very satisfied with the quality of the work and the professionalism with which it was carried out.
Description of Work: We had water damage appear in the ceiling of a room that sits beneath a deck on the top floor of our house. They came out and identified the site of entry of the water (which was primarily where the waterproof deck met a wall). They brought the waterproof edge of the deck up 8 inches, they re-waterproofed the wall that water had gotten in to, they put another topcoat on the deck, and repaired all the water damage in the ceiling of the room below.

Everyone was very pleasant to work with and seemed very good at their trades, with the exception of the electrical subs (who installed a phone jack incorrectly and weren't as friendly). I appreciate the fact that they were friendly, especially since I am home all day while they worked. They worked hard and cleaned up well when they left for the day. The drywall guy got behind on another job, but came on the weekend to catch up. This was excellent, as it meant that I had the time I needed to paint the room before the carpet was installed. They discovered some mold along the way and figured out the source, which was great. I would say this company provided very good work, not quite top-of-the-line quality, but very good (We didn't need top-of-the-line, so don't want to pay the higher cost that goes with it). It certainly met our needs. Overall, we were very happy. We got a bid from BH Contracting for another project a few weeks after they finished this one.
Description of Work: They converted about 1/3 of our garage into a room. This included moving the door to the garage, framing up the floor and new walls, replacing drywall that was on the walls in the garage, putting insulation, etc. They also replaced a window, installed carpet in the new room and replaced some in another room. Also installed an in-wall heater and electrical for the room.

I contacted Joy Fritch, the office manager, initially about our project in early February. She put me in touch w/ Brad, the owner, with whom I spoke at some length on a Saturday morning in February. Per his very clear instructions, I scheduled an appointment with Joy for Brad to come out and view the project area and discuss in greater detail the plans and projections for the work. Brad emphasized that Joy manages his calendar. So, I followed up with Joy to schedule the appointment for today (March 6), at 8 am - I have a confirming email from Joy setting this date and time. It is now 9:10, and no one has arrived. I've emailed Joy and left voice mail messages for both Joy and Brad, requesting at least the courtesy of an explanation. I've heard nothing. I am a very busy attorney, and I took time out of and arranged my schedule so that I could be here to meet with Brad. No shows and no calls portend UNRELIABILITY and/or arrogance and abundance of other work, deprioritizing mine.

WE REGRET TO HEAR THAT THE MEMBER TOOK TIME OFF WORK. IT IS UNFORTUNATE THAT SHE DID NOT RESPOND TO THE PHONE MESSAGE FROM THE OWNER, A WEEK & A HALF PRIOR, EXPLAINING TO HER IN DETAIL THAT ADDITIONAL INFORMATION WAS REQUIRED TO KEEP THE APPT. WE DID NOT HEAR BACK FROM HER UNTIL THE MORNING OF MARCH 6. I HAPPENED TO BE OUT OF THE OFFICE THAT MORNING ON COMPANY BUSINESS & WAS UNABLE TO RESPOND TO HER UNTIL 9:45. SHE DID HAVE AN APPT. MARCH 6. AFTER SETTING THE APPT., SHE EXPRESSED A STRONG DESIRE TO HAVE A DESIGNER AT THE APPT. WHEN A POTENTIAL CLIENT EXPRESSES SUCH DESIRES, WE TAKE THEM SERIOUSLY. MOREOVER, WHEN A DESIGNER IS INVOLVED IN A REMODEL PROJECT, IT CHANGES THE TIMELINE FOR THE INITIAL BID APPOINTMENT, I.E. CLIENTS FIRST MEET WITH THE DESIGNER & THEN WITH BH CONTRACTING SERVICES. PROCEEDING IN THIS FASHION IS FUNDAMENTAL, SO THAT THE DESIGNER CAN PROVIDE THE SPACE PLANNING DESIGNS & DRAWINGS TO THE CONTRACTOR. HAVING THE DRAWINGS AT THE INITIAL BID APPOINTMENT ENSURES THE CLIENT RECEIVES AN ACCURATE BID FOR THE COST OF THE PROPOSED PROJECT. IN ADDITION, AS SOON AS THE OWNER WAS ALERTED TO HER CALL (MARCH 6TH), HE RETURNED THE MESSAGE IMMEDIATELY (9:45A.M.) WHAT IS LEFT AS PERPLEXING IS THE NARROW WINDOW FOR WHICH WE HAD TO PROVIDE HER “THE COURTESY OF AN EXPLANATION” AS SHE STATES ABOVE. IT DOES NOT SEEM THAT SHE ACTUALLY WANTED AN EXPLANATION, AS SHE WAS ALREADY FILING HER NEGATIVE REPORT ON ANGIE’S LIST AT 9:10.

BH was great to work with--honest, reliable, professional, polite, and on site EVERY DAY! They made it possible for us to live in the house through the remodel with a minimum (relatively) of disruption. Brad's subs were also very reliable and helpful with the exception of the electrical and lighting subs. We also had some issues with the architect and his plans not working in the real world of construction and Brad handled those in a professional and fair manner. We had full confidence that Brad and his crew would do whatever we asked to make sure that we would be happy with our house. And we are!!
Description of Work: We did an enormous remodel and addition with BH. We changed a split-level to a two story home and built a detached garage. Work performed included: excavation, earthwork, framing, mill work, carpentry, plumbing, drywall, hardwood floors, open-timber stairs, front deck, entrance bridge, stamped concrete, construction of an addition, paint, board and batten siding, drywall, and electrical.

F on returning calls. To be fair, I cannot comment on their actual work.
Description of Work: I called BH and talked in length about a total condo remodel in downtown Seattle. The woman I spoke to was apprehensive about working downtown but said that she would talk to the owner and call me back in 24 hours. 24 hours came and went and I received no call back. As you can probably guess, I did not work with BH. This experience disqualified BH as a potential re-modeler for my next home remodeling project. ($130,000)

The existing staircase needed to be replaced because of rot. BH submitted their estimate a week later than promised. Their price may have been fair, but was higher than I was willing to pay. I decided to do the work myself. Although there is a lot of labor involved, the savings will be over $3,000.

All of the people were great to work with during this large project. They were very nice and professional. The work was completed during the time-frame that I was given at the beginning of the project. Everything was done the proper way and looked great. I chose this company for this service because of the great comments on Angie's List.
Description of Work: I had them install tile flooring in my house. I went with 12 x 12 tiles. They also completely gutted out my master bathroom and then installed a new bathtub, sink, toilet, and countertop. They did the flooring in the master bathroom as well. I also had them turn a front porch area in to a sunroom during this project.

After a missed start (we had a reluctant tenant and Brad added a new member to his family) things went well. Brad was flexible, creative with changes, willing to listen to hair-brained ideas and always had his eye on quality. BH Contracting had the highest estimate for the work but it is reflected in the quality of the result.
Description of Work: BH Contracting did an extensive remodel on our 1916 home. Everything but the bathrooms was touched. They did repairs to existing problems, refinishing and building of hardwood floors, created a new kitchen, built ceilings, removed and upgraded sub-standard wiring, rebuilt a staircase, rebuilt and resurfaced a fireplace and painted everywhere.

Never had the opportunity to judge their service or quality of workmanship.
Description of Work: It took two weeks to get a firm appointment for an estimate. At 9 a.m. the day before the appointment, Joy called to reconfirm. At 5:15 p.m. the same day, she phoned back to say BH was too busy, it would take 2-1/2 months for them to get to the job and we should look for another company. IT IS UNFORTUNATE THAT THIS MEMBER IS UNHAPPY THAT WE COULD NOT BID HER JOB. HER STATEMENT CONCERNING THE TWO CALLS THAT TOOK PLACE ON THAT MONDAY IS CORRECT. AFTER THE 9AM CALL, THE OWNER AND I WENT OVER THE SCHEDULE FOR OUR CURRENT JOBS, UP COMING JOBS, AND BID POTENTIAL JOBS. DUE TO CIRCUMSTANCES BEYOND OUR CONTROL (THE LOSS OF ONE LEAD AND ONE APPRENTICE) WE HAD SOME SERIOUS DECISIONS TO MAKE ABOUT OUR TIME. WE ALWAYS PUT THE HIGHEST PRIORITY ON CLIENTS UNDER CONTRACT WITH US. AS SUCH, WE HAD TO SCALE BACK ON OUR BID POTENTIAL JOBS UNTIL WE REPLACED THE LEAD AND APPRENTICE. I SPOKE OPENLY AND HONESTLY WITH THE MEMBER ABOUT THE CHANGES WE HAD ENCOUNTERED AND THAT THE REALITY OF THE MATTER WAS THAT WE COULD NOT BID OR WORK ON HER JOB UNTIL THE END OF AUGUST. WE WANTED HER TO HAVE THE FACTS, SO THAT SHE COULD FIND A CONTRACTOR THAT COULD MEET HER NEEDS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. SOME CONTRACTORS MIGHT HAVE BID THIS JOB AND THEN STRUNG THE CLIENT ALONG, BUT THIS IS NOT THE CASE WITH US. SINCE WE KNEW WE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO COMPLETE HER WORK FOR SOMETIME, WE RECOMMENDED THAT SHE FIND ANOTHER CONTRACTOR. WE REALIZED THAT TELLING HER HONESTLY MIGHT MAKE HER UNHAPPY, BUT HONESTLY COMMUNICATING TO OUR CLIENTS (AND POTENTIAL CLIENTS) IS NOT SOMETHING WE WILL COMPROMISE ON, NOT MATTER WHAT THE POTENTIAL NEGATIVE REPERCUSSIONS MIGHT BE. HER STATEMENT CONCERNING HER JOB NOT BEING “BIG ENOUGH” IS INCORRECT. I DID NOT AND NEVER WOULD MAKE SUCH A STATEMENT.

About 3 days later, Richard arrived on time at 7:30 am and stayed a long day until about 6:00 pm. He removed a section of the ceiling of the room. The damage did not extent beyond the deck, and it's joined to the house. he removed a section of the deck surface and some siding, and put in new wood. The leak is now fixed.

Overall we are quite pleased. Brad Wilson and his crew were all very responsive and easy to work with. They kept on time and on budget with few exceptions (major underestimate of the shower door and concrete countertop and weather delays slowed progress this winter). The crew was here every day, and were not pulled off to work other jobs until ours was complete or subs were here. There were a few hiccups but they were resolved (didn't like a contractor decision on the siding but we came up with a good solution together). There were two areas that we were dissatisfied with (both subs): drywall & floors. Brad did catch most of the drywall issues and had them re-do them but this was after everything had already been painted. The hardwood floor guy was very pleasant but we are not happy with the product - in fact we had him re-do one area four times! That remains our biggest disappointment. Overall, we would definitely recommend Brad and would use them again.
Description of Work: We redid our second floor, adding three dormers and one addition. It was a fairly major remodel, adding two new baths, four bedrooms, and one office nook. BH handled all of the work, the framing, exterior siding, woodwork/trim, tiling, roofing, etc. They subbed out the plumbing, electrical, floors, drywall and painting.

BH Contracting was great. Employees showed up on time and cleaned up each night. They were very courteous. When unexpected problems arose, I received regular updates, including how it affected the cost of the job. The worked performed was very high quality, and I now have two beautiful bathrooms. It took a while to get on the schedule, but once work was started, everything was completed within the time-frame I was given. It was a great experience (and the price was lower than the other bids received).
Description of Work: BH Contracting finished drywall and trim work in my basement (left unfinished by another), updated one of our bathrooms and completely gutted and remodeled another bathroom. In the bathroom that was updated, BH tiled a new shower surround, installed a new standing shower, laid a new vinyl floor and installed a new toilet. In the bathroom that was gutted, plumbing was rearranged to accommodate a new layout, the shower and bathroom floor were tiled, new drywall was installed, as was a new tub, toilet and pedestal sink.

Amazing. Before working with Brad, we had another company upgrade our pipes from galvanized to copper and it was a complete nightmare. Brad has restored our faith in the world of remodeling. His crew was on time - even on one of the nasty snow days with icy roads - courteous and exceedingly professional. They wouldn't even bring their travel coffee cups into our house because they didn't want to spill on our stuff. Brad explained cost overruns to us immediately, and the overruns were entirely because we went crazy with materials for the bathroom, not at all because the project was not managed well. There was even a mix up with the marble fabricator and Brad was able to negotiate us a $1,500 cost savings. The crew was also fantastic.
Description of Work: We have a 1956 house with steep "stairs of death" and an all original pink bathroom. Brad and his team replaced our stairs (which involved building a landing and relocating a door to the basement rec room) and completely remodeled our bathroom (new everything, including a ridiculously expensive marble slab that we fell in love with and that significantly affected the price of the job).

However, once I had all my questions answered (I usually have quite a few and they are ongoing) and the job was scheduled, the crew was punctual, seemed very knowledgeable and skilled in the work, and willingly made a few changes that I thought needed to be done as the work progressed. They torn down the existing structure with minimal mess and disruption and I tried to make sure they had a clear access to the area. They did a couple of small things they were not obligated to do. The work area was cleaned at the end of every day, and at the end of the job. I tend to be a ''sidewalk superintendent'' and they were patient with my questions. So kudos to the crew!
Description of Work: The railing and overhead structure on my deck, which were in varying stages of decay and already partially disassembled, needed to be replaced. Brad came out to look at the job and listened to what I thought I wanted done, and then told me what could/should be done, and we agreed to replace it with a similar configuration. I was given two choices as to what type of materials could be used in the new structure. Brad was helpful talking through my options, and he spent considerable time describing the differences, and the pros and cons regarding treated lumber that does not require staining or other treatments, versus material that could be left to age to a silver or have some finish applied. I chose the former and am happy with the result. I can't find where I can indicate the year the house was built, which I think is a very good piece of information, so here it is: 1989
