Steve came out to do the estimate. He was on time and professional in his approach. We discussed the issue and potential remedies. He answered questions to my satisfaction. After the initial visit, they provided a detailed summary of the work that needed to be done. I requested references as well as a more detailed description of some aspects of the work which they provided promptly along with sketches of the planned installation. They back up the job with a ten year warranty.
The crew arrived on time and appeared very organized. The system was installed in one day with minimum disruption to the tenants. The site was cleaned up and finish work was very neat--a walkway of crushed rock next to the foundation where they had excavated. Excavated areas of the lawn were regraded and reseeded.
After a month or two of wet weather, I had a question regarding the function of the system. They sent a representative out and we determined that all was working well. They asked me to keep in touch if any more questions arise.
The only pause that I had was their location as the company is located in Vancouver, WA while the jobsite is near Hillsboro--a distance of 25 or 30 miles. I have had problems in the past with contractors located at a distance but this proved not be be an issue with this contractor.
The job turned out well and I would hire them again. They weren't the cheapest bid but I feel that, considering the job, the high level of service and followup, the price was quite fair.
Their office was responsive, they showed up on time, did the work exactly as bid, got permits pulled and approved as agreed, and paid attention to detail in a way that left us very satisfied.
The quality of the work was excellent, and it was clear from watching them that they were extremely experienced in the work they did for us.
It's early to tell, but since they finished it has poured and the dry well has worked exactly as expected in every way.
I recommend Drainage Masters, our experience with them was very positive.
The two raingardens became a issue during the quote process. Just keep in mind that raingardens do not include the plants. I argued that it isn't a raingarden without plants, ...it is just a piped in hole in the ground. So factor in that when making plans.
One of my main issues was water accumulating near my patio, and when it rains really hard the moisture travels up the patio all the way to my shed. The french drain that they installed to correct this issue FAILED. The quote contained a cobble block wall with the drain, so when it failed to work it really made a dent in my wallet. A subsequent correction was about 75 % effective...but I had to PAY even more to have that done.
The guys doing all the MANUAL work were good. My issues with Drainage Semi Masters was a failed project, designed by them. Just make sure you get in writing what they plan to do if a project fails. A simple, "Oh, we'll make sure you're happy," doesn't cut it. I wish I put that little tidbit into the contract.
Heather in the office did the scheduling and kept in contact via email. If Steve or Seth tell you they'll have this or that by blah blah, then factor in at least a few extra days. I didn't hear from them since I had faxed the contract back, but they showed up on time on the date to start. So they have that going for them.
