Originally was referred to Mr. Barber by a friend. Called Steve to get a price for an installation of a entire house humidifier. He asked what kind of make and model was i looking at in which I replied "whatever you think meets the specifications of my house and also that you feel comfortable installing". Deciding with Steve's suggestion i went with the Aiprilaire 700 model. Mr. Barber showed up promptly to install it two days later. Upon leaving and receiving payment Steve told me that "I should give it a couple of days to bring the humidity level up to where i need it around 35%". After a week I called Mr. Barber explaining the level in the house was at 16%. Steve then told me he would come over to fix it and we made an appointment for later that week. MR. BARBER THEN PROCEEDED TO NO SHOW NO CALL ME FOR THAT AND THE NEXT 4 APPOITMENTS RESCHEDULED AFTER. Irate at having my family cancel plans 5 diiferent times to be stood up I attempted to call Steve for over 4 days to no avail. Finally, with the help of the friend that referred him to me we contacted Steve by using different phones so that he would not recognize the number . Steve continued to apologize profusely and stated "that he had no excuse for his behavior and that it was bad business to leave me hanging" I then in no uncertain terms made clear that he needed to show up for the next appointment and fix his mess. Steve showed up at my house later that week and after 20 minutes downstairs informed me that the humidifier had a "short" in it and everything was now running fine. 2 days later i woke up to find my house literally "raining" - water dripping off of windows doorknobs etc. I called Steve, he gave me several suggestions over the phone on how to fix it - none of them worked. I then unplugged the humidifier and made yet another appoitment for Steve to come out and fix it. Throughout the next month Mr. Barber made 5 MORE APPOINTMENTS IN WHICH HE NO SHOWED NO CALLED ME. On the day of the final appointment Steve sent me a text informing me that he just got off the phone with a technician from Aprilaire and that all I needed to do to remedy the situation was flip a switch behind the display panel. After not being able to locate said dipswitch I called Aprilaire directly and explained my situation. The technician suggested that i send him a picture of the wiring job that was done by Mr. Barber. After completing that task the tech informed me with a certainty that the job was "not even close to being hooked up and wired properly". I attempted to call Steve to no avail and finally had to use a different number that he would not recognize so that he would pick up. I informed Mr. Barber that even though I gave him his choice of humidifiers he installed it incorrectly and that he needed to refund me 100 dollars so that I could schedule someone else to come over and fix his mess. Steve after some haggling agreed to write me a check and told me it would be in the mail that day. The check never came. I hired a new HVAC tech to come over and after removing the cover for my furnace informed me the the previous job was "a joke and dangerous". Steve omitted using any wire nuts to ensure the connections and prevent a fire in my furnace - i just had exposed wires twisted together out in the open in several spots. When i went to file a formal complaint on Steven Barber i found out that he was operating without a license for the past year. To recap - no show no call 10 times Given a choice of any humidifier on the planet - chose one that he failed miserably to hook up on two separate occasions Did a job with exposed electric connection inside my furnace that a third party referred to as a "joke and dangerous" additional technician described as "not even close to being wired correctly" Agreed to refund me 100 dollars of the job and never sent the check Operating without a license I don't really know how any plumber/HVAC guy could be worse than Steven Barber - an incompetent, unprofessional, dangerous liar that wasted multiple days of my families time and put us at risk of a fire. I hope this review causes him to go out of buisness.
