Highly recommend. Beacon Electric was great in advance to schedule an appointment and arrived on time the day of the job. Also, they were extremely repectful of my home. We will definitely use Beacon in the furture.

After speaking with a very professional and friendly electrician at Beacon, we decided that in my particular case the scope of work would be much greater than the Angie's deal for a roof vent fan allowed. Therefore I decided to cancel the deal and hold off on the project for the time being.

We purchased an Angie's List Big Deal for a discount on the purchase and installation of a standby, natural-gas powered generator. Bob Hanifin and Jesse Rosenthal conducted a thorough site visit covering all aspects of generator sizing, placement, and hookup (both electrical and gas). Beacon arranged for purchase and delivery of the generator, as well as scheduling the installation and coordinating with Washington Gas for their portion of the install and with the county for final inspection. The installation was scheduled in a timely manner and Jesse accomplished the complicated electrical work in less than a week's time and in a very professional manner. He shared info with us throught the process and pleasantly and fully answered all our questions. We are very pleased with the overall experience and will definitely use Beacon for any future electrical work.

We wanted to install a full-house generator. On the date Jesse Rosenthal (from Beacon) was to do an estimate, he was delayed and arrived about four hours later than planned. It was fine as he called two or three times to say he was being held up. He looked over the situation and provided us with an estimate before he left. That very evening, we received an written estimate via email. In looking over the proposal, we noted that Jesse had not included the full house surge protector that we had discussed. I responded via email asking that it be added. It was the only problem with the proposal. No response. After a couple days, I emailed again. No response. After another couple days, I called the company. The individual answering the phone said she would have someone call. The owner of the company called and asked me what it was about. He had seen the email and did not know about the estimate. I explained that Jesse Rosenthal had made the estimate, we had received the estimate via email and I responded via email. I also explained what the problem was with the estimate. He said that sometimes his employees use his email address and he does not necessarily know what it is about (I do not understand why he did not find out what was going on instead of simply waiting until I called by telephone). He said he would get someone on it. A few days later, Jesse came by and said he would take care of it -- he would correct the estimate and we could get on with things. Since that time, about three weeks ago, we have, once again, not heard another word. I grew tired of chasing after these people, explaining the same, rather simple, situation, and again waiting for some response, some action. We have gone with another company who have been clear in their communication and organized in their approach. I do not feel that we should have had to repeatedly try to reach Beacon and repeatedly explain the situation and wait for some response that would, in fact, never come. They appeared to be both unable to communicate among themselves and with us. The confusion and lack of responsiveness was rather chaotic and we decided that we did not even want to think about how they would handle the complexity of a full-house generator installation. Update: October 20, 1012: Bob Hanifin emailed us a few days ago to apologize, to say that our experience is not how he wants his company to be. He offered to install a whole-house surge protector free of charge. He also said the problem was caused by a move and a simultaneous shift to a new computer system. He said they have hired a project manager so contracts and customers would not get lost as we had. We declined the free offer insofar as we have signed a contract with another company including the surge protector. Yesterday, October 19, Bob drove to our house, apologized once again for their "messing up" and again offered a free service such as installing an outside outlet with the hope that we would like the service, accept the apology and change the rating. Once again, we declined but I would like to recognize the effort that Bob put into making this right. He certainly seemed concerned about how his company is perceived, particularly through Angie's List. That concern translated into a tangible offer that we appreciated even though we did not accept it. I cannot change what happened initially anymore than Beacon can, but I am impressed with Bob's willing to talk with us, try to explain without making lame excuses, and offering tangible compensation. Accordingly, I have changed to rating.

Recovering from a basement flooding issue, we took advantage of a special Angie's offer and installed recessed lighting. The look is perfect, the installation crew very professional offering a recommendations but not pushing. Have since recommended them for both residential and commercial projects.

I needed minor work in the kitchen I was remodeling and purchased a Big Deal through Angies List. Beacon's two electricians were able to complete my project quickly and efficiently and provide advice on a contemplated project. They were punctual and polite and thorough, and I will definately use them again.

The work was very well done and on completion, I received a quote on future work.

Beacon Electrical was very professional right from the start. They were on time, offered professional advice, work was thorough and completed on time. Jesse Rosenthal was the electrician: he was very helpful and knowledgeable of the county codes that had to be followed. He went out of his way to contact Dominion Virginia Power and get them to come onto my property and assist with the old and dangerous meter box. His assessments of my old home's electrical system were right on target and he kept me informed of what I would need to pass inspection and get everything up to code. When the county inspector came in he was impressed with the work that had been done and put up the "passed inspection" sticker within 10 minutes. I will definitely contact Beacon Electrical Services for any future work that my home may need.

Our attic fan had died some time ago, so when we saw the online Angie's List deal through Beacon to replace it, we jumped on it. A representative of Beacon reached out via phone and email within days of our purchase to schedule an installation date. It was only because of a complicated calendar on our end that we had to delay the installation, but once the date was set, Beacon's guys showed up on the appointed day at the appointed hour. They installed a new attic fan in just a couple of hours and performed a top-to-bottom assessment of our house's electrical systems. They presented us with an itemized estimate of how much each of their recommendations would cost. The only thing about the installation that surprised me (in a not entirely positive way) was that the old fan was left in the roof, when I had assumed that it would be removed and the new fan installed in its place. That said, the installation is on the back side of the house, so there's no real cosmetic issue with having two attic fans, side by side. The dead one will someday be replaced when the roof is replaced.

The service was great. the guys that came to do the install were very professional and knowledgable about their trade. they showed a love for their work. Before they started the job I was told that they didn't do drywall and that there would be holes in my ceiling when they were finished with the install. I wish I had known this when I made the appointment. I would have had someone come in later on that day to repair the drywall. I still haven't had a chance to get someon in to repair the holes. The install went great. they guys explained everything they did along the way and made sure that I understood why they had to change this or that due to how old my home is. I was offered extra services or upgrades and was given an price at the time of the offer and everything added up when they were complete with the job. there weren't any surprises when I wrote the check for the upgrades. I even asked the guys if they had time to install 2 light fixtures in my entryway. I was quoted a price and they were able to install them before they left. They also installed an attic fan that was supposed to be done by another crew from the same company after this crew finished my recessed lights. It turns out there was a scheduling error and the recessed lights crew were able to install my attic fan at the same time. They took the time to call back to the company to find out what was going on. I was told that the attic fan install wasn't scheduled at all. The recessed lighting crew stated that they loved to do electrical work and if time permitted would have no problem installing my attic fan too. They were able to install the fan in record time and was only at my house for about 5 1/2 hours and completed both jobs. I was very pleased with their work and professionalism and willingness to help me. I will definitely choose this company again if I have any electrical needs.

My only complaint is that I bought 2 groupons from this company. 1 to install recessed lighting and 2 to install an attic fan. when i called to make my appointment for install I specifically asked for both services to be performed on the same day so that I wouldn't have to take more than one day out. I was told that each install would take approximately 4 hours and that the installs would have to be scheduled back to back instead of for the same time frame. that meant that installers would be at my house for approximately 8 hours on the day of the install. I was fine with that and scheduled my install date. When the guys showed up at my house they were ready to install the recessed lighting, but had no idea that I was supposed to get an attic fan installed. They took the time to call back to the company to find out what was going on. I was told that the attic fan install wasn't scheduled at all. The crew that showed up stated that they loved to do electrical work and if time permitted would have no problem installing my attic fan too. They were able to install the fan in record time and was only at my house for about 5 1/2 hours and completed both jobs. Because of this I am giving them an A rating, because I was very pleased with their work and professionalism and willingness to help me.

Beacon came out to inspect the work site, determined that a full panel upgrade would be wiser than a replacement and quoted a new price. I believed I could find a better price elsewhere so contacted Angie's List to get a refund requested.

Beacon arrived on time to install an attic fan. The employees were courteous and professional. They took the time to review and explain the installation with me and went over everything afterwords. The 'courtesy review' of my home's electrical systems did offer some good information/feedback, but also seemed a bit excessive in suggesting thousands of dollars of recommended repairs.

Victor showed up on time, advised me what he was going to do regarding the electrical panel and answered any questions i had. He did the work efficiently and in a timely manner. I had him come back to do some additional work a few weeks later. He rewired my microwave connection and changed out my range outlet. Very professional.

I did not contact the company immediately after purchase due to leaving on vacation. Upon return, I was told that the first available date was now in September. This somewhat defeats the purpose of installing an attic fan as summer is pretty much over, however to their credit they kept looking for openings and were able to fit me in the middle of August. I was not present the day the install occurred, so I won't comment on that. However, there were 2 issues that later arose. One was finding a full tube of roofer's tar in my garage, which led me to wonder whether it had ever been applied during the install. To alleviate that concern (and clean my gutters) I decided to go on the roof myself and take a look, where I found the 2' by 2' section of my roof that had been cut out to install the fan just laying there near the newly installed fan. That section of roof, with shingles attached, was laying with the protruding nails downward and would have eventually damaged my roof. Needless to say, the installer had put roofing tar around the fan, but I'm not impressed with his carelessness. Had I not gone on the roof, that piece could have sat there for a long time, as it was not visible from below. Hopefully I won't have any leaks and this fan will work properly. I have not been into my attic to inspect the work that occurred there.

I had a ceiling fan install by Michael & Son during the summer heat wave. They told me I needed an attic fan and game me an estimate. Beacon Electrical's deal on Angie's List was more than $200 cheaper so I decided to give it a try. This was the first Angie's Deal I've bought. The company promptly called and made an appointment that was convenient for me. They informed me over the phone that if the attic didn't have an electrical line for a light, it would cost about $100 to install the line and light. I thought it was still a good deal and went ahead. As it turned out, my attic had a light already. No problems with the vent fan or installation.

The work went well. During the project, Victor discovered that my electrical panel needed to be replaced (it is soddered and only 150 amps), the house is not properly grounded, and that my washer and microwave are not on independent lines. He walked me through the process, showed me some of the problems, what it meant, and how they should be fixed. I also asked him to take a look at my attic fan, which has not worked since I moved in a few months ago. He quickly diagnosed the problem and showed me what needs to be done (the old fan seized, and because no one installed a kill switch with the old fan, they simply cut the power lines to the fan). I knew there were some problems with the electrical system, but what I didn't know, Victor was able to explain in layman's terms. He is great and I highly recommend Beacon. I am going to use them to make the necessary repairs to my electrical panel and will also use them to install a new attic fan next spring.
