I never had a complaint with WGES during the many years that I used the service at my previous home. My issue is with their lack of responsiveness when I discontinued the service following the sale of my home. In May 2014, we sold our home and promptly informed Washington Gas (not the same as WGES) that we were moving and that service should end on May 15, 2014. We did this using their website. This was our mistake. Apparently, this was never received. We did not immediately call WGES about the move as we understood that Washington Gas was responsible for doing the final reading and reporting it to WGES. When we did eventually call WGES, from whom we continued to receive bills, we were told that Washington Gas had not reported the change to WGES. This issue was straightened out only when we had a conference call with Washington Gas and WGES. Though the issue regarding the shutoff was cleared up, we continued to receive bills from WGES and I called them every month to straight out the billing issue. I was informed on several occasions that it was being reviewed and someone would get back to me about a final "true-up" bill. this never happened and I have continued to call every time I receive a new bill. While no new charges have been added for several months, they still claim that I owe them more than $300 -- even though I have received a refund check from the gas company. Most recently, the service representative I spoke to had no satisfactory answer for me and offered to transfer me to a supervisor. The call went to voice mail and I left a message. After several days, the person still had not called and I called again and asked for a supervisor. Again the call went to voice mail and I left a message. I'm waiting.
Description of Work: Provided gas service to our home at an equalized monthly charge.

The caller told me the upgrade would be $30/month. I said I needed to think about it, but please send some literature. She said there were only a few hours left for the offer but not to worry: I had 60 days to cancel before it took effect and I would receive the literature before 60 days passed. Based on 3 key details the representative told me ($30/mo, 60 days to cancel, literature) I agreed. I never received the literature. I decided that I would not be able to add $30/month in my budget, so I cancelled on 9/17/13 (within the 60 day window). A few days later I received a bill which included the additional 95% wind power for $48.16. I called WGES to explain the situation; they got back to me on 9/26/13 to say I was responsible for the charges. Christie (X5099) recommended I contact the Maryland Public Service Commission to file a complaint, but they would make attempts to see if the whole phone call was recorded. I feel that I was given false information to lure me into signing up for something that my family simply cannot afford. Had I been given the time to look over the literature, I could have made that determination from the beginning. Had I not been lied to about the additional service being $30 per month, that I would have 60 days to change my mind before it took effect, and that I would receive additional information to look over I would not have signed up for the service at that time. I don?t appreciate such strong sales tactics and misinformation from a utility that my family depends on.
Description of Work: On 8/1/13 I received a call from WGES offering me an upgrade to 95% wind power.

I was on budget plan and had a $338 credit with them. When I cancelled my plan I asked about my credit and they said it take 30 days to receive my credit. it has been almost 3 months and I have called 3 times and keep getting the same story, they are reviewing it. Customer service agrees they owe me $338 but corporate is the only one who can release payment. Had no complaints about my services but not happy with not getting my money. Would not recommend anyone to go on budget billing.
