it went great

I had Howdyshell screw up my flooring. I had to beg other companies to come out. Howdyshell left my floor pink, yellow and taupe. It was supposed to be gray. Costen floor gave me a $1000 off knowing I had been through **** with Howdyshell. I had to wait another 1 ½ months for her to get her [email protected] together. They worked with me on how to correct this horrible looking floor. I thought I was going to have to live with it. They are finished now and it looks fabulous. Not the gray I wanted but again they were fixing a major screw up. I would hire them again. This is the 2nd time Costen has done my floors. They also did a huge house I had in Riverlake Colony when Trip took over the business. I worked with Courtney and she was great to work with. Highly recommend.

It went well. After the initial work, they needed to come in for 5-10 minutes every morning to reapply finish. They accommodated my request to come early before I needed leave for work. The boards match the rest of the floor pretty well.

UPDATE to previous review: The owner of Costen Floors contacted me and apologized for the miscommunication regarding the extra charge in the invoice. He was going to work with the team to make sure this type of thing doesn't happen in the future. I really appreciate him reaching out to me.

Very well. The floors look great.

The professional, knowledgeable and proficiency of the individual visiting us, making all measurements and providing the comprehensive proposal far exceed the performance of all others we interviewed. Everything was exactly as had been explained resulting in NO surprises. The individuals performing the work were obviously highly experienced, warm, personable and worked the entire day, early to late. The results were overwhelming when one strips out all carpet and flooring, replacing it with high quality veneer flooring throughout. Everyone who has visited has noticed and commented on the wonderful job done and how much of a positive difference it makes throughout the home. We highly recommend Costen floors for all types of flooring projects in the home. Rarely have we had 100% confidence in the company and personnel providing a service for such a large project in our home. There is no hesitation on our part sharing our story with others looking to have flooring work done in their home. It is always Costen Floors.

As the ratings indicate they did an excellent job. Existing floors were very squeaky and they have stopped the squeaking! They also did an excellent job of preparing the subfloor by eliminating any high spots. They also did an amazing job with all of the angle cuts they had to make. They did the whole job including moving several large pieces of furniture and the appliances. I would recommend them and use their services again,

I think they are one of the award winners. It was very good. They showed up on time and did a great job on the installation. They cleaned up very well after themselves. I was extremely happy and I would definitely use them again if I need any flooring to be done. I can’t complain about anything as everything was great.

From start to finish these folks were top-notch!    I live in the country a ways away from their showroom, but when I contacted them they promptly scheduled an on-site rep to come survey the work to be done and measure.   She did a terrific job (Jan) and I followed-up the next week with a visit to their showroom to look at samples.    I chose half hardwood (for the great room) and half carpet (for bedrooms)... the showroom's spacious and has tons of samples -- I think I was there over 2 hours... Jan was VERY patient with me... and made several calls while I was there to confirm availability (I needed them to do the install within the following week, as my move-in date was less than 9 days away!)
Install-wise the guys came on-time and were VERY polite & professional!    First a crew came and ripped out and removed the old carpet -- then the hardwood was delivered within minutes afterwards and they got busy installing that.    They got the whole thing done in hours and it looks GREAT!   (I especially like the matching toe-molding they used to finish it off)
While they were working there was a crew ripping out old carpet in the rest of the house and installing the carpet padding.    Following day I had the carpet installing guys come and they put in the new carpet in no time.    No messing around -- worked hard, took few breaks.... got it done!     Whole project was done EARLY that week and had time to do some final prep of the place prior to move-in date.
I've since also had gracious follow-up since from both Jan and Customer Service to make sure I'm happy.
HIGHLY recommend these guys -- and I'll be using them again for other rooms in the house... as well as referring them to my friends (already have!)   A +++++++    and THANK YOU!

The service was fine. They did charge additional to put two additional coats on the floor. They put nothing more than a finishing polish that I could have applied myself. I wish they would have put something more durable because it eventually faded and you could see scratches. I had to replace that flooring. If they would have sold me something with polyurethane or something more durable, I might have used their services again.  I will not use them for any future projects.

We were blown away with the awesome job that this company did in our home! We had a toilet that leaked and damaged the underside of some hardwood floor boards around it in our downstairs bathroom a few months ago. The type of boards we have are not made any more but Costens was able to find some in their warehouse and had just enough to to our job. You can't even tell that a few of the boards were replaced - they did a phenomenal job for a very reasonable price, we are so pleased.

They were able to match the kitchen to the remaining wood floors perfectly. They replaced some damaged boards so that you would never know that they have been replaces. They were very prompt, very efficient, trustworthy, and all of this occurred while we were on vacation. They were excellent and the floors are absolutely beautiful.

I called Costen Floors on March 29th (a Friday) at 9:30 AM.  Kara arrived by 11AM. Estimate for work was in email by 3pm Saturday, March 30th. Costen called to give me run-down of schedule, who to expect when, for how long, and what they will be doing. Since I needed to coordinate with a plumber to move a radiator, I needed sufficient time to do so. On April 10, Sam arrived before scheduled time. It was a privileged to watch a Master Craftsman at work fixing the hardwood floor! He was not informed of the need for subfloor repair, so he built a subfloor, first, from scratch.  He was done within 2 hours, and it looked great! Cliff arrived the next morning. Originally half of the livingroom was to be sanded, but Cliff said that only the new boards needed sanding and didn't need to use the huge sander. (!!!) When a leak was found in the radiator where the plumber had not sufficiently tightened the radiator, he called me immediately. Cliff and partner did the finishing within an hour. He called the next day, said he wasn't satisfied with how it looked so he re-did the color. One would not know that any repair had to be made!!! The floor looks Fantastic! They also helped me to keep my cool when I was furious with the plumber! Great Folks at Costen Floors, and will hire again to re-finish hardwood floor steps! AAA+++!!!

Their service rep came out ahead of time and explained everything to us. They were very cooperative and flexible to work with. They did an excellent job on my floors. They were very knowledgeable. The house is close to 90 years old and they had the floors looking like new. The floors look beautiful.

The carpet installation was seamless. I hardly knew they were in the house except for all of my furniture was in my living room.  The head man, Mike, was extremely knowledgeable and I learned a lot about caring for my carpets from him. They were here most of the day, cleaned up after themselves and although we stayed with a neutral beige color similar to the old carpet the difference is like night and day.  Jan, the sales person, helped me pick out the carpet and made sure I got a good team.  She was very responsive.  A+ all around for that job.
The laminate flooring was a different story.  The crew showed up without proper knowledge of the work site.  Part of the upstairs was opened to the area where the laminate floor would be installed.  They needed to sand the subfloor as it was the original attic floor.  They did not bring anything to seal off the area between the attic floor and the previously finished carpet area that has just been steam cleaned after a 2 month installation of new dormers, lot of dry wall and 2 closets.  I stopped the work immediately as all my furniture had been moved onto the carpet so they could install the laminate floor.  It would have been a blizzard of saw dust and dry wall dust all over everything.  They also did not bring a screw gun to screw the subfloors down as it clearly needed it.  The workers were not to blame for this as they had no instructions on their work order.
After several calls back and forth with the floor managers at Costen Floors, the workers had a screw gun and jet vac to clean up the mess.  They were late in starting and would not be able to finish the job with just the two of them before Thanksgiving.  I called Jan and she put in an early request for a third person.  The men sealed off the area from the clean area with plastic before they started sanding.   The walls where they were working has just been painted a week before and all my expensive light fixtures had already been hung as I was told the floors come last.  They all got blasted with saw dust and residual dry wall.
This day was very stressful as I had just been through contractor h*** for two months and cleaning up after most of their subcontractors.  Costen Floors stayed with me the whole day checking in to see how I was doing.  On day two they sent in a third person so they finished the job the second day.  They also paid to have a service come out and clean up after the dust storm in the area where they put the laminate floor and in the older area where there is carpet.  The Operations Manager came out to talk with me about the problem as they want to get things right.  We talked about their lack of equipment, knowledge of the space, and how much of a mess they were going to make with their sanding and what it would do to all my exposed furniture and freshly cleaned carpet.  He understood immediately by just looking at the 15 foot opening between the two areas.  There was a miscommunication between the sales person and operations about the condition of the site.  A lesson learned for them.
In the end the floors turned out really nice.  I am extremely pleased with how they look and more importantly really impressed with how responsive the floor manager, sales person, and the operations manager were to this job site.  I would highly recommend this company and use them again as I know they will responded to a problem if there is one and go to great lengths to fix it and make the customer happy which I am.

It's the best company in Richmond! Their pricing is reasonable and they've done excellent job overall!
