They came and diagnosed the problem and provided an estimate to make the repair and an alternative to invest in a new system. The repair price seemed unreasonable, but the price for the new system seemed very fair. Their sources for the part said it was difficult to get and would take 4-6 weeks to receive. . Since I am pretty handy, I bought the part online (received in 3 days) and made the repair myself in 45 minutes and saved a substantial amount of money compared to what the repair would cost or the suggestion to install a new furnace. But I thought they were very professional, called in advance of when the repairman would arrive and he did a very competent job.

The technician arrivd on time. He checked my CAC to make sure it was working properly. I was concerned that there was enough Freon and he assured me that everything was working fine.

The technician came out and did a thorough inspection of our system. He was very knowledgeable and professional. He recharged the a/c and now our house is back to being cool again. Definitely recommend Richard's and will use them again.

We purchased a big deal from Angie's List and their services turned out bad. The technician was pissed off after half way through doing the work. I think he found out that it was actually for that coupon and then he was rude to my wife and my wife felt slightly threatened. He did not charge us anything other than the big deal, but he wanted to. My wife made him call the company and they basically told him to just wrap it up and go. They did not honor the big deal until the end of the month, so even if you buy the big deal they would not schedule appointments until the end of that month, which was annoying in itself because if you have the big deal available they should be able to take appointments right away and not start until the end of the month. I do no know if it is anything wrong with the company, but that technician was not a good representation of that company.

This was a tricky fix. The A/C worked well the first year and a half then started to function poorly. It did not want to hold the temp--it tried to drive it way down once it started. It took 3 service calls with Richards having discussions with Mitsubishi. Finally one of the owners came out with a repair man and did an exhaustive run through and found a 4 x 4 inch hole leading into the attic which was influencing the unit. The owner, Richard Smith accepted responsibility for the problem and refunded all of the money paid for service calls. Now you could say, hey bad installation. But not clear when the problem started-not clear who was at fault-nothing was clear but Richard's made no bones about it . They accepted responsibility and repaid me. It is a rare company that will own up to issues and then fix it at no cost. I have been using Richards since 1969 and never had a problem before. On this one problem, they kept at it, accepted responsibility and did the proper thing. This is an example of superb customer relations.

Richards was great...would recommend them to friends and would absolutely use them again, when needed.

We purchased a service call through Angie's List and scheduled it for the next day during a four hour service window (1-4). I was called at 3 and informed that I was not in their service area. I had went to the web site before ordering and found no details on their service area, other than in "Northern Virginia," where I am. The exact service address was provided in the order and verified during a phone call with them when scheduling the service. I had to waste a 1/2 day off work waiting for a technician that would never show and will have to waste another day scheduling someone else to come out. The staff, however, was polite when talking to me.

It went very well. We need a filter and that was provided. Serviceperson was well versed and addressed all check points. It was an excellent interaction. We will use Richards again and again.

The gentleman, arrived within the desalinated time frame. He diagnosed the problem within 10 minutes, thankfully it was an easy fix and he replaced the broken part. Getting approval for the 'Angie's Coupon' took longer than the actual work. But, the coupon was well worth it, I saved close to $80.00.

Wow, the Friday before Labor Day and I called about 11:30 AM. They had come and diagnosed the problem before 2PM! Unfortunately, I need a new motor which they have to order. Verry nice and prompt service.

It was good - I'm happy with them. They got the system working again.

I went with a Trane Company representative which Richard's could not provide. The technician said the system was beyond economical repair and due to age (#% years) could not be made operational without a significant investment. I was able to get the system running again with no investment at all. The price quoted by Richard's was about $2,000, or 40% more than I paid for the Trane system.

We purchased a big deal for the service, and it turned out good. It went well. This was the first time for us to use them. They did what they were supposed to do, and it was good considering the price. We haven't had any problems.

Very professional as always. Good information about rebates and tax credits. One day and done.

The inspection went well and posted an update to the furnace unit.

Service Tech was very professional. Arrived on time and was very clear in describing a couple of things we could do to get more efficiency out of our unit. Fortunately, we had no major issues with out unit, but if we did, my first call would be to Richards.

The arrived. I explained what was going on and what I had done. They knew immediately what was most likely the issue and they were right. They fixed it very quickly and I don't think the visit took more than 20 minutes. I am so thankful not only did they know what was wrong, fixed and didn't find any other issues. The latter being a general home owner fear. To top it all off the price was reasonable. Thanks!!!!

I purchased an Angie's List Deal for Cooling Diagnostic and received an appointment the same day. They offered to do a 30 minute call ahead appointment. I live 10 minutes from work, so that saved time out of the day. The Technician, Sharp, arrived and listened to what I described as the problem. My it is 8 years old, and I had an issue with the outdoor unit freezing and found out later by my neighbor that the indoor unit was leaking as well. He was a bit skeptical on why he was there since I had another technician come out and told me that I had low freon and needed a new unit. So, I asked Sharp to actually inspect the unit. He first looked at the drainage lines and didn't see an issue, but did see the evidence of the water marks on the concrete. Then he inspected the the indoor coil. As soon as he opened the door, he found standing water inside the unit. So we were back to low freon due to a leak ($$$$) or a clogged drain ($). He tested for leaks and found none. Then he blew out the drain with compressed air and the water started draining. Next we went outside to check the unit . I was a bit muddy due to the rains, so he hosed it off for me. The mud was restricting the air flow. He tested the freon and guess what... it wasn't low at all. Now I'm real happy. I went from a potential $3200 job to less than $100. Lucky for me I got an honest technical who was willing to actually diagnosis the problem versus just trying to sell me a new unit. When I actually need to replace the unit, I already know who will receive my business.

very disappointed with service

Our gas furnace went out on a Sunday afternoon. I called Richard's at 7:30 the next morning and a very nice lady assured me someone would call back within half an hour. John called me back and after I explained the problem, he said he would be at the house betwwen 9:30 - 10:00. He came out at the designated time and after talking with me and my husband, it was agreed that we would have Richard's install a new HVAC system the next day. It was my idea to have them go ahead and do the new A/C since it was 14 years old. They came out the next morning at 9:00, as promised, and by the end of the day the job was done. They cleaned up their mess, and the system has. been working great. Everyone we dealt with at Richard's was very helpful and professional and, more importantly, they were quick to respond. I never got calls back from two other companies I called Sunday afternoon and got an answering service, even though they advertised "24 hour emergency service."

It went as it should. Tech was on time. Service was performed. Even after the first unit failed they came back with a replacement unit.

I called Richards because my son, in Falls Church had used them for repairs in the past and was very satisfied. When I called, John Smith, one of the owners, came out to give me an estimate. I got 2 other estimates and after looking them over and asking John some additional questions , I decided to go with Richards. It was a smooth, efficient installation. The crew that installed was great. Totally happy!

I can't remember what he offered, but I remember being pleased with what he did and the fact that I only paid $30. It was overall a good experience, but I can't remember of what he did or the details of it. They are excellent. I would use them again.
