The only problem we ran into during the entire process had to do with the Reston Home Owner's Association, though they resolved their own problems quickly. Miguel, the sales person we worked with was fantastic. We discussed what we needed and wanted with him, he covered an enormous amount of options with us, and did not ask us to buy anything. He emailed us our quote the next day, complete with a 3D (not stereo) rendering of the completed job. Admittedly, that particular feature of the presentation, combined with the zero pressure sell was huge for us. Across the rest of the week we saw additional sales people from other companies, and I found myself emailing or calling Miguel repeatedly with more questions, asking for additional clarification and details. In the end, they weren't the cheapest, but they were close, and Miguel was so much help that I felt he'd earned our business. They completed the actual construction in 5 days and came back the following Monday to clean up the work a bit. My deck looks fantastic and I couldn't be happier with the results! I would recommend Steadfast to any homeowner interested in building a deck.
Description of Work: They demolished my old balcony and replaced it with a new 200 square foot deck with Fibron decking. They also installed 8 halfmoon lights around the perimeter of the deck. It is beautiful.

Jack and the whole team were very easy to work with and very responsive to all of my request for details, exact pricing, recommendations, and their plans. Jeff came out to do the initial survey and estimate and took his time to understand our desires and budget. Manuel was the site lead and was awesome. He is very talented and creative. His advice about design options, color choices, and finishing options helped create a beautiful room for us. Toward the end of the job, Manuel allowed me to walk through and point out any and every little detail that could use some attention. For example, touching up the floor trim paint and one little dent in the tile grout. I strongly recommend this company.
Description of Work: We turned an existing screened in porch (second-story) into a four-season room, had the existing outside portion of the deck redone, and improved the patio space under the room. We had Anderson brand double-hung windows and Anderson sliding door, Amana through the wall heater/air conditioner, and in-wall speaker and cable connections installed. We had tile flooring, finished drywall, and tongue-and-groove ceiling installed.

From sales through construction, our overall experience with Steadfast was outstanding. Miguel came out to give a quote on extending our current deck and listened carefully to exactly what we wanted done and offered suggestions on how to make it happen and how to improve our idea. In the month it took to receive HOA approval, Miguel continued to tweak the design / requirements with us as we asked questions and updated what we wanted done. He was always quick to respond and very easy to work with. After getting all the approvals and permits Kenny called to let us know who would be showing up and when. Nelson and his partner (the actual construction crew) were very professional and the quality of their work was beyond what we expected. Even the county inspector commented on the quality during the final inspection! Nelson was very thorough in every detail and was always willing to stop and answer questions or explain some of the details of the deck or the progress they were making. We knew what to expect each day. We are very pleased with the results and would definitely use Steadfast again. They are all highly professional, the workmanship exceeded expectations and the entire experience working with Miguel, Kenny, Nelson and his partner was outstanding. They all worked closely with us from start to finish.

The entire experience could not have been better. From Nick Brown who did the initial sales visit to the construction work done by Mirko and Jose we knew we were dealing with a group of professionals who were proud of their company and the work they do. As they were going to start work in August we found that we needed a Special permit from Fairfax County. Four months later we had the permit Steadfast kept in touch and honored the original contract and price. One thing we especially appreciated was that once they start they never leave. And the work is completed by the same people who begin the work. When the crew shows-up they worked all day stopping only for lunch. And what work, Mirko and Jose really knew their craft but more than that they were creative and looked for ways to make our project better. MY wife described our porch and deck as "indoor finish work performed outdoors." If Mirko did not like something about the plan he suggested an improvement and explained why his way was better. If there was a problem he always had a solution that just seemed right. We liked there work so well that we are in the process of requesting a new contract replace our front porch.
Description of Work: Steadfast remove my old deck which was 36'x16' and replaced it with a 36'x16' new deck with a 20'x13' porch built above the deck off the family room. The deck and porch are one level above the ground.

As a repeat customer, hopefully it is immediately evident that I would not have had Steadfast build the deck for my new home if I hadn't been completely satisfied with my experience with their quality and workmanship at my first residence. After reviewing the layout of my new backyard, Jeff and Jack took only a few days time to present me with an absolutely stunning design, which was way beyond anything I had initially envisioned for the space. In addition the recommendations for decking and railing system not only enabled it to stand out amongst its peers in the neighborhood, but also provided the desired continuity with existing construction. Franklin's crew did an outstanding job executing the design and their meticulous attention to detail simply exceeded my expectations. As with any project unexpected changes occurred here and there, but in the long run, all for the better. When such occasions arise, I've learned to take Steadfast's advice and experience in stride to produce a finished product better than that which was originally envisioned. My only criticism if any was echoed in a previous post. As a customer having to talk to four or five different employees at Steadfast sometimes made it a bit confusing and uncertain as to whether or not what was discussed with one individual was conveyed to next. However, one thing is for sure and that is at the end of the day, everyone bent over backwards to make sure what you wanted was exactly what was delivered and more. A tad frustrating from time to time, but overall a great experience that was hands down worth every penny. Overall, as I look at the finished product they simply did an outstanding job. I could not recommend them more highly!

The sales person Miguel was very knowledgeable and helpful in finalizing the details. He made excellent suggestions. The owner Jack Prins was very gracious when explaining to me that the existing flag stone would have to come out due to the City of Alexandria's inspection. With the amount of pilings that they wanted put in place I was going to have to pay more to replace.Jack offered me the new flagstone at a significantly reduced rate and it turned out beautiful.I did have some glitches with two roof leaks which they fixed in a timely fashion. At times I felt they could have been more responsive yet I will admit that I am an impatient client and they unfortunately had to deal with. Kenny and Grover are a great team and they deserve kudos for doing their best to keep me happy.

We selected Steadfast Construction because (1) their estimate was the most reasonable, and (2) Miguel, who saw the deck and prepared the estimate, was very knowledgeable about what needed to be done, which gave us confidence in their ability to perform the work. Although we were scheduled for October, an opening became available so the work could be done a couple weeks earlier. Joe, who would supervise the work, called to arrange a visit to see the deck. After inspecting it, he explained how he would do the work, and also suggested some modifications which we agreed on. The materials were delivered the next day, and the following day Joe and Al arrived at 7:00 am to start. They both worked tirelessly to remove the old decking and band board, and started laying down the new decking, and completed most of the work that day. The next day, they arrived again at 7:00 and finished by early afternoon. Their workmanship and attention to detail was excellent, resulting in a solid and well built redecking and new band board (and straight railing !). Miguel followed up to ask us if we were satisfied with the work, and answered my questions on care and maintenance of the new decking, and painting the band board.
Description of Work: For our elevated wood deck, we needed to replace the dried and cracked decking, and replace the warped band board which had also twisted the attached wrought iron railing. Three deck contractors came out to see the deck and explain how the work would be done, and each submitted an estimate within a few days.

After the initial hickup, everything has been splendid. The workman came on a Sunday to finish the job because he wanted to get the work done while the weather was good. He took his time and did a great job. Every company screws up from time to time. The thing that differentiates good companies from bad ones is how they handle the mistakes they make. Steadfast proved they know how to handle a mistake. I could not be more impressed.
Description of Work: Originally asked for an estimate for deck repair. The estimator arrived but never gave me an estimate, even after following up. I reported this and gave them poor ratings on Angies List. A manager, Mr.Prins, then called and asked what it would take to make it right. Subsequently we agreed on an estimate for the repair and the work was done. The final estimate was for powerwashing, sanding and staining the deck.

They got started a couple of days late due to the heavy rain, but started as soon as feasible after the rain and worked hard to get the deck done as soon as possible between showers. The crew was friendly and professional and did a great job. My composite deck matches my home and looks like it had been built just for my house. The salesman wasn't pushy to make a sale and listened to what I wanted. His 3-D pictures helped us to visualize the end result and were valuable in getting a quick approval by our HOA. Would use this company again!

Summary: The biggest reason we gave Steadfast an overall grade of B and yet all other support grades were an A is because we didn?t have an option to grade on communication. If we had an option to grade on communication, we would have given them a C for communication. Internal communication within Steadfast was by far our BIGGEST issue. When we talked with Steadfast?s rep, we had a clear understanding of what we wanted (a deck attached to the house with a reverse herringbone pattern). When we asked if anyone needed to be home during the work, they told us it was not necessary. If my husband had not been working from home the week they did the work, we would have wound up with something very different (a free standing deck with a standard herringbone pattern). The bottom line is that they do great work, however, they do require a little bit of supervision to make sure you get what you agreed to. Details: After interviewing several companies, we decided to hire Steadfast Construction to replace our deck because: based on the Angie?s List reviews and our meetings with the Steadfast rep, we felt confident that we would get what we wanted. The Steadfast rep had us believing that there would be no problems and that he was up-to-date on the County codes. As our deck was being replaced, we had a few unfortunate surprises. When we talked with Steadfast?s rep about a complete deck replacement, we asked if we could have a new deck attached to the house like it currently was. We told him, if not, then we only wanted a surface replacement. The Steadfast rep said yes we could have the deck attached like we currently had, then he asked us about a ?free standing? deck. He showed us on his software what it would look like and we declined as we did not like the look (specifically, the addition of three extra support posts against the house in the back). When the builders showed up, they tore down the old deck and began digging large holes in the backyard, INCLUDING three large holes for posts against the back of the house. It was then that we learned that the plans they had were for a free standing deck. We immediately addressed this with Steadfast?s rep; and re-iterated that we did not want a free standing deck. Steadfast?s rep talked with the builders and we went back to our original plan?. a non?free standing deck. Unfortunately, the County Inspector would not approve the attachment of the new deck to the house like our previous deck had been; therefore, we were required to go to a free-standing design. The bottom line for this is, IF we had been told that we could only have a free standing deck, we would have only done a surface, rail & trellis replacement. Consequently, we wound up paying much more for something we did not want. When we talked with the Steadfast?s rep about changing our surface pattern to a herringbone pattern, we asked that the herringbone pattern point away from the house. When the builders started to install the herringbone pattern, we noticed that the pattern was pointing at the house. Once again, we immediately addressed this with Steadfast?s rep. Steadfast?s rep talked with the builders, and we went back to our original plan, with the herringbone pattern pointing away from the house. However, based upon the materials that were delivered (or, more to the point, that were not delivered), it appears that the fact that we wanted the herringbone pattern to point away from the house was not relayed to the builders, or to the person who placed the order for the materials. We have to admit, we were very surprised at Steadfast?s poor quality control on our deck replacement project. When we asked Steadfast?s rep how the plans could have been submitted incorrectly, Steadfast rep?s response was that it was an oversight. We believe there were several ?oversights? that could have easily been avoided had Steadfast had a better quality control process in place.
Description of Work: Steadfast tore down an old deck (supporting structure, trellises, and surface) that was 27 years old. They replaced with a new structure, trellises and surface using top grade pine wood. Additionally, they added a small planter shelf to the front of our deck and changed the 45 degree angles to starburst design vs. straight slat design.

I am completely satisfied with the results of the project and would like to share pictures of the final product.
Description of Work: Steadfast designed a deck, patio, screened in porch and storage area underneath the porch. Jack Prins put together a number of renderings for us to to go over and tweak, with various things we wanted until he had drawn exactly what we wanted and envisioned as the back of our new home. He provided us with computer animated drawings of the project from every conceivable angle to show us what it would look like when finished. He had a picture of our house and was able to tie the new project into our house. The finished product is scary how much it looks like the computer drawing. He was very patient with us as we changed the design several times until it was just as we wanted. Our house, which was under construction by another builder was to be delivered in April 2011. Steadfast applied for a building permit as soon as we took possession. Construction of the patio began shortly after the building permit was approved. The patio and retaining walls were built first with the deck and stairs shortly after the patio was completed. The screened in porch was next to be built and then the storage area under the porch. We added windows in the storage area and double doors to the porch from the deck during the build and Steadfast helped us with type and quality of these extras. The carpenter assigned to the job was a perfectionist and treated the assignment as if it were his home. If he didn't like something he offered suggestions for changes. His attention to detail was more that I could have asked for....and the project upon completion really shows his attention to the little touches to make it complete. To say that I am satisfied with the final product is an understatement. It is absolutely beautiful. Jack also suggested I finish underneath the deck with a rain guttering system called Rain Escape. We now can enjoy the patio under the deck without getting wet when it is raining. I have had many friends and neighbors comment on the beautiful porch and patio we had built. I can't thank Steadfast enough for their superior craftsmanship in creating exactly what I envisioned for our back yard.

We obtained 3 bids from companies highly rated by Angie’s list. We chose Steadfast Construction. Miguel bid the job for Steadfast and we were impressed with his knowledge of construction. When he E-mailed the bid he also provided a computer generated drawing of the proposed deck. It was nice to see how the final product would look. Manuel and his crew did a great job building the deck. After the lumber was delivered, Manuel checked out every single piece. Several did not meet his high quality standards so he took time to go down to the supply house and hand pick what he needed. We are pleased with the quality of the deck and the professionalism of the Steadfast family. Steadfast will be returning in a few weeks to stain and seal the deck.

Our experience with Steadfast Construction was outstanding. The salesman was knowledgeable of all aspects of the construction process and county government restrictions, user friendly, thorough and prompt in answering questions and returning phone calls. The construction team was very professional and the workmanship was of the highest quality. We made a few changes to the original construction plans during the process and the team pivoted smoothly and accommodated the last minute changes without missing a beat. Overall, we are very pleased and would highly recommend Steadfast Construction and use them again.

Steadfast was recommended to me from friends that had previously used them for their screened in porch. My project was a little more extensive as I had a very large deck that first needed to be torn down before having them build a screened porch and composite deck attached to it. I made the initial phone call and the very next day Miguel came out to take a look and talk about what I wanted. He sent me a computerized image of the project and then he and Jack came back out to discuss further on how the final project should look and what sizes would be best. The final image and estimate was then sent to me 2 days later. I got another estimate from another company and although their price was right around the same I just didn't have as good of a feeling about the company. My initial start date was supposed to be in mid-September which was 2 1/2 months after initial contact but it was the busy season! Surprisingly, I got a phone call that they would be starting much earlier. The tear down took only 2 days and then the construction began the following week. I dealt with Mirko as the builder for my project. Incredible! It was he and his helper for the entire project with Jack and Kenny often stopping by for check-ups. I had a small problem with stair placement in the beginning during framing but that was quickly remedied. Mother Nature didn't cooperate very well the past couple of weeks so this project took longer than expected -- NO fault of the company. The only thing left is the staining of the floor which I have already had contact with the painter to schedule. I would not hesitate to recommend Steadfast for composite deck and porch construction. I can't wait to enjoy mine for many years to come! I will post pictures upon final completion.

I had a great experience with Steadfast from start to finish. Miguel came out to review my job and write the proposal, and his knowledge and kind demeanor put me at ease. He thoroughly and patiently answered all my questions and gave me enough information about how the job would proceed that I knew exactly what to expect when the work began. The proposal included computer generated drawings of what the finished deck would look like that were very helpful and turned out to be exactly what the finished deck looks like. They took care of all the permits and county inspections, which was nice since I'm clueless about those things. He told me the time between accepting the proposal and the start of the job would be about one month, and that was exactly how long it took. They did all the tear down in one day, and then the rebuild took 3 days and then a final day for finishing touches and cleanup. Rudy, the builder, was also very nice and while things were a mess during the actual construction he did a good job of clean up. I'm still waiting for them to come back and finish up a few minor things that were delayed due to the heavy rains that came as they finished the job and then Rudy's already scheduled vacation.-- moving a concrete planter back into place that had to be moved for the tear down and rehanging my porch swing. My new deck is beautiful and well built and was affordable. I got two bids and this one was slightly less than the other bid, and several hundred less than what some of my neighbors paid for theirs. Great price, great communication, great construction -- I couldn't have asked for a better experience.

I spent nearly two years exploring options with nearly eight different contractors. Quotes varied significantly. Many simply did not listen to our requirements or understand our budget. A number did not want to do the demo. Many did not want to seek a permit. Sadly, our experience was frustratingly typical. Steadfast was recommended on a community message board and we immediately contacted them. Miguel listened and understood. He provided a clear rendering (with some excellent suggested cosmetic improvements), a detailed proposal, and offered us a great price! The kicker: Steadfast was so busy, we'd have to wait until the end of summer to get our new deck. It was obvious to us that Steadfast was the right choice, so we signed the contract, sent a deposit, and waited ... Rob and team showed up on time. They demoed, prepped, dug, poured, pounded, sawed, nailed. They waited for the inspectors, sawed, nailed, pounded (and sweated) some more. Within one week we had a beautiful new deck. There were no surprises. There were only two nails, a couple butts, and a pile of sawdust left on the ground after they left. Awesome job!
Description of Work: Steadfast performed a tear-down of the existing porch and built a new deck with a larger footprint.

Overall I give Steadfast and "excellent" rating. The project was completed to spec, and within budget. If you're building a deck I highly recommend that you invite Steadfast to give you a quote. Here's is what makes these guys different, and the type of people I like to work with. They promptly responded to my request for an estimate. The person who did the estimate (Jack in this case) stayed with the job as primary contact from start to finish. He routinely followed up to be sure everything was going smoothly. He listened and worked with me to fully understand what I wanted. Always patient. He offered ideas. He gave expert advice, and when I was off track he helped me understand why and the best approach, or alternatives. The evening of the estimate he sketched out at least 6 different drawings of different looks, and gave me a rough estimate on the spot. I never got the feeling that Jack was "selling" - more like a friend in the business helping to think through the options. The very next day, I received an email with a computer rendering of how the deck would look. Very helpful! Which resulted on a number of modifications to the design. Really helps to see a visual. Contracting was not complicated - straight forward, and exactly what Jack said it would say. The pricing was reasonable when compared to other quotes I received. The materials used were top quality -- exactly what I ordered. The worker who built the deck was amazing. very talented carpenter, a stickler for detail. When I came home from work each day he'd have a list of questions. Twice I asked him to make minor changes ... he never complained or charged me extra. He took pride in his work - if it didn't look right he'd redo it (even though I thought it looked fine). The painting went as planned. When the work was done the owner Kenny visited the site to check it out, and followed up with me to be sure I was satisfied. Jack did also. The only drawback to the experience was the scheduling and start date, which was about an 8 week wait. But that is also an indicator that these guys are in demand, and the wait was more than worth it. We love our deck, and all of our neighbors have comment on it's beauty, design, and quality.

From the beginning Steadfast made everything very easy. Jeff knew exactly what we wanted and even went out and personally purchased and delivered the porch swing from a country-side vender he had used on his own porch Their price was the most competitive and they did absolutely everything they said they would and then some. Keith the builder was fantastic. When the building inspector challenged the county approved building plans, Keith came up with a solution on the spot that met with the inspector's overly zealous requirements and averted a potential complication. Although the construction took place on the front of our house, the disruption to our family living was negligible. We thoroughly enjoyed watching the daily progress of the project and Keith's daily commentary on construction and world events was quite entertaining!! Before finishing our project, Keith even took the time to look at a trellis my husband had recently built and added some much needed improvements to make it safe! This porch is the best thing we have ever done to our house! My husband and I spend most mornings and evenings there when we can get a seat, the kids and their friends constantly use the porch for their daily gatherings. Everyone who spends time on our porch gushes over the quality of the work and the wonderful embellishment to our home. Our only regret was not doing it sooner. The highest compliment to be paid to Steadfast came when one of our neighbors came by soon after the porch was complete and contracted with Steadfast the next week to build the exact same porch on their house, right down to the placement of the porch swing. Anyone thinking about using any company other than Steadfast Construction for their deck or porch project is making a serious mistake, at least in our opinion.
Description of Work: Steadfast built a 28 x 8 front porch. They took care of the building permit and all inspections. They showed up when they said they would and finished well ahead of schedule.

Steadfast Construction built a beautiful deck and gazebo on my home. The entire process smooth and pleasurable. A salesman came to my home to discuss the project. He showed me a portfolio of great pictures and had some great ideas for my project. He then took some pictures of the rear of the house and in a few days sent me the estimate. Along with the estimate he sent some more pictures of some of their previous projects and a virtual image of the project. The virtual image was really helpful. It gave me a great concept of what the finished project would look like. When I signed the contract I was told they wouldn't be able to start for about 6 weeks. They ended up starting in 5 weeks which was a nice surprise. Before starting the project though my HOA wanted me to make a change to the design. I was a little worried of having to go back to them with changes. But when I notified Steadfast of the change request they came out and redesigned the plans right away without any problems. Once the construction was started the carpenters were continued the professionalism that the salesman displayed. Everyday showed considerable progress and they cleaned up after them selves everyday too. The deck and gazebo looks great and I gotten several compliments from my neighbors. I would highly recommend Steadfast Construction. I was very satisfied with the whole experience.

The project faced two major hurdles. Getting permission from the local Architectural Review Board was a daunting process, requiring several alterations to the plans; Jack and Omar worked through the emerging issues with us --during their busiest season -- and helped us meet all City Review deadlines, keeping our project on track and on time. Second, our townhouse has NO rear access -- demolition & removal of the old steel and getting new building materials to the site was extremely challenging. Two managers, Jack and Miguel, personally came on-site to inspect the job in progress, and made useful suggestions to the crew. Jack made a wonderful suggestion that enhanced the trim work significantly. The owner, Ken, was personally accessible to discuss problems, and backed up their work, sending qualified subcontractors out promptly to fix a couple of problems that surfaced with electrical and with finish carpentry. The carpenter arrived after 3 p.m. the first two days, but once there, took only 5 days for construction. The job took just about a month. After carpentry, additional time: 1) to stain the interior wood ceiling and floor, including drying and recoating time; 2) to add a GFI electrical outlet and ceiling fan (once floor was dry enough to walk on), and 3) to make adjustments to trim and stairs, basically a punch list, for problems noted once carpentry was complete. Steadfast is extremely responsive. Although ours was a small project for this company, they still devoted all of their resources to getting the job done right. We would use Steadfast again in a heartbeat!
Description of Work: We replaced a small, rusted steel deck on the back of our house with a PVC-coated, screened wood porch twice its size. The job involved designing a new, enclosed structure in keeping with the style of the existing home; getting City permission to build; doing a complicated demolition of the old deck and removal of the ensuing debris from a tight space; and the actual construction of a new enclosed porch. We got three proposals for this project. Seadfast's bid was not the lowest, but their price was reasonable, and at the first meeting we were able to see examples of projects that we knew would exactly suit our needs. We could conveniently handle arising issues via phone or email after that. From the inception of the concept with Jack...the visit and contacts with Josh...to the final calls by the owner, Ken, to ensure satisfaction...Steadfast delivered. They gave us everything they promised, in a timely fashion, and exactly on budget. They made the project a delightful experience for us. And considering the late start--our initiating the concept in May--thanks to their hard work, we are pleased to be able to still have two or three months left in the year to enjoy the finished product.

Maybe their work is fantastic like the reviews suggest. But I'll never know.
Description of Work: Called them in for an estimate nearly a month ago for a Sunroom. They were very friendly and impressive when they came in for the estimate - but that was it. No response after that. I called them for the status of the estimate, they said they'd call back. It's been a week an no word.

Steadfast is fantastic! I can now testify about their rave reviews on Angie's List for the outstanding service and installation of my deck. My new deck is the talk of the neighborhood. I receive complements every time someone sees it. Nick the salesman was extremely helpful with the initial design and very transparent about the pricing and contract (no hidden tricks or fees). This was not the case with other builders and estimates I received (they didn't provide a detailed estimate or willing to share the design until under contract). Jack Prins is awesome! He spent his personal time ensuring I was completely satisfied with my design and with the pricing (which included their Angie's List promotional discount). He was very open, honest, and transparent about the pricing. He cared very much about building a quality product and not on how much money he could squeeze out of me. He created a realistic graphical design of the deck using a picture of the back of my house that gave me a complete visual BEFORE signing the contract. The completed deck looks exactly like the graphic! Skip the deck builder is incredible! I could not believe how hard he worked day-after-day in the 90 degree heat and the unforgiving direct sun rays that persistently beams on the back of my house from sun up to sun down. HE WORKED EXTREMELY HARD! I learned that Skip is a perfectionist -- he made sure that I was completely satisfied. My wife and I are completely satisfied with our deck and storage area. The deck is beautiful, maintenance free, and priced right. I am very excited about the hidden storage area that gained me more than 10x10 sq ft of space. I strongly recommend at least getting an estimate from Steadfast.
Description of Work: Installed a customized, no maintenance composite (Fiberon) deck with Shoreline railings, and a storage area beneath the deck that included a waterproof rain escape drainage system to keep it dry.
