They were able to fit us in almost immediately after calling them. The crew was experienced; the work was completed in a few hours; and the owner of the company was professional, leaving the job site very clean. The bid was the lowest of the four that we received. We highly recommend this company.

We went from a pretty ugly yard, with patches of grass here and there. We ended up with a nice green lawn after 5 weeks. My only complaint is i wish they would treated the yard several days before for weeds. I have several around the lawn. Overall i would contact them to finish the backyard in the future. I know my dog loves the new grass and is always rolling over it since its nice and soft. I now a clean slate to do some landscaping. He was also the only one that could guarantee me to get grass growing in that yard. We had several quotes where the estimators were not sure due to the soil and conditions of the yard the previous owner left it.

Premium is very dependable. Their workers do a great job and the office always respond to inquiries in a timely basis. Our best experience with Premium was last summer after the big storm. I called the next day because one of our trees needed to be cut. I called as soon as the office opened and had someone stop by less than one hour later. By that afternoon, one of their crews had already taken care of the tree. We'll remain a loyal client.

Yards Are Us provided excellent service, and we have no complaints. Not only was the work done to specifications and our yard cleaned up like no one had ever been there, but Chuck made sure to communicate often and promptly by phone and email. He called within 24 hours of our request for an estimate, completed the estimate in that much time and scheduled the work for the day following the day after we signed an agreement. We would definitely use Yards Are Us again.
Description of Work: Yards Are Us elevated the canopy across about five large trees in our backyard, which involved cutting and removing a dozen branches. They also cleared away a pile of smaller branches we had gathered.

Probably not the cheapest but the work is very, very good, professional and quick. Overall, I'm pleased with the hardscaping and a little less pleased with the sod because it hasn't been able to stand up to the tough sun. Also, I found that it's very important to give clear direction and to get every little detail noted on your estimate, otherwise there may be surprises in the future. However, I was a landscaping newbie when this problem occurred.

I have nothing but great things to say about Premium Lawn and Landscape. The process from start to finish, including every aspect of the completed project, exceeded our expectations. We originally contacted Premium, and four other hardscape companies, to quote on building a retaining wall to level our back yard that sloped down steeply from the house to our rear property line. Mark (our Premium Lawn and Landscape project manager) arrived right on time for the initial consultation. (Note: he was the only one of the five companies we contacted who honored our request for a Saturday morning appointment. Throughout the project, Mark consistently arrived on time and accommodated the weekend meetings we asked for). Mark was very knowledgeable about the type of gravity wall we wanted and had many suggestions for us to consider that we had not thought of, even though I had researched these walls considerably. Within a few days, he emailed us a project estimate, which was less expensive than the other quotes I had received -- and on top of that, he gave me an additional 5% "Angie's List" discount. I signed the contract and we agreed on a project timeline. On schedule, Mark had the engineering drawings done and permits pulled from the county. Mark kept me informed of every step in advance about what word was being accomplished and on what days the workers would be at my house. After the project got underway, it was clear Premium was doing a great job (the work was progressing as promised and, at least to my eye, looked like it was being done thoughtfully and neatly and according to plans. The workers left the yard in a neat condition at the end of each day with the materials and tools neatly stacked, and the communication from Mark was excellent). So I decided to add some extra work to the project---regrading the front and side yards, removing a large tree from the front yard, adding new shrub beds and building a new stair system to the back yard. Mark gave me what I thought was a great quote for all of this new work, and again, gave me an additional 5% Angie's List discount. Notably, Premium was very flexible and accommodating. For example, mid-project in late July, I decided I didn't want to have sod installed until at least early September so that it wouldn't have to survive the late Summer heat/drought. Mark re-scheduled everything accordingly, and put down hay in the meantime. This had the effect of delaying my final payment for the big-ticket retaining wall to Premium by at least 6 weeks. I'm sure they wanted my payments as they had already completed the wall and fence, but it was clearly more important to them that I was satisfied. Mark scheduled the Sod after we both agreed the heat of Summer had passed. Premium did not ask for final payment until they had ensured I was happy with everything. Mark even made a few extra Saturday morning trips to personally answer several questions I had about the various projects Premium had done. Bottom line---I would definitely hire Premium again for hardscape/landscape work. I waited until now --- 3 months after the job was complete -- to write this review. I wanted to see if everything still looked great after a few months. The sod has now all taken perfectly (Premium came out a few times to replace a few small sections that didn't take). The wall and the other hardscapes as well as the new landscapes look great. All in all, I think I got a great deal: the work was high quality and well priced; customer service was unblemished; the workers were completely professional; and Mark was awesome to work with.
Description of Work: Photos at: http://flickr.com/gp/79377421@N06/0N9J6i/ Engineered and installed a 120 foot long retaining wall, average 8 foot tall, using EP Henry gravity wall system with geo-grid. Installed 4 foot tall aluminum fence along the top of retaining wall. Engineered/installed an 8 foot long by 3 foot tall retaining wall around basement window. Engineered/installed a 6 foot wide, three step stair system with side retaining wall using EP Henry blocks. Removed several trees, including two very large, mature trees (one of which was intertwined with overhead power lines). Graded back fill area behind new retaining walls. Re-graded front and side yards. Installed 5,000+ square feet of new sod. Created four new shrub beds and installed new shrubs and perennial plants. Transplanted 1 existing small tree and 12 existing shrubs to new locations in the yard. Created a stone drainage garden near basement window to improve drainage. Installed below grade downspout drainage with surface pop-up emitters.

Premium offers quality service at fair prices. I have used them two years in a row and I would use them again. They removed a large maple tree from my backyard that I was afraid would either fall on my house or my neighbor's home or injure passers-by. Premium, by large, offered the most reasonable price to remove the tree and to grind the stump. I had checked with other tree service companies and their prices were astronomical. Premium has done landscaping work in my small front yard two years in a row and I have been pleased with the result. Kelly Horvath is the landscape designer that I've dealt with and she's easy to work with. Kelly has a good eye for what will work and what won't work in terms of design and scale. I had a small wooden front patio that had seen better days and Premium installed an attractive paver patio in its place.
Description of Work: Tree removal and stump grinding; removal of a small rotting patio and installation of pavers; spring cleanup of yard and installation of new tree.
We were looking for a major overhaul of a ?blah? back yard that consisted solely of a large rectangle of weedy grass against a backdrop of forest, and a 10 x 12 cement patio slab in front of a sliding glass door. When the time came to select a contractor, we consulted with and interviewed a total of six reputable companies in the area experienced in both landscape and hardscape. It was clear from the beginning that we wanted to work with Mark Aitkin-Cade, the President of Premium Lawn and Landscape. He had a clear and compelling vision for what the backyard could become, but more so than the other candidates, he truly listened and seemed flexible in terms of accommodating our desires and budget. We decided to wait, however, until we received the detailed design plans from each landscape company before making the final decision. Needless to say, other than Premium?s, the bids were all over the map with no apparent relationship between the bid and the cost of the materials. One company came in at double our budget for pavers only. Apparently they were unaware that a 3-minute search on the Internet will reveal the wholesale and recommended retail prices for the three major paver companies and that electronic calculators are available to estimate labor. Another company failed to take drainage into consideration, a critical design flaw. A third company created a series of flagstone paths that were excessively expensive, made no sense, and didn?t reflect our taste or desires. Premium Lawn and Landscape were the obvious choice for our project. Mark?s design made the absolute best use of our space and included all of our desired plantings, but they also incorporated many, many touches that personalized our design?.all within our budget. During the actual construction, things were extremely fluid and we were able to make changes based on how things actually looked in person rather than on paper. One example of this was the addition of a compass to one patio (a nod to my Naval heritage). Mark designed the compass with stones that compliment the cobblestone pavers and had the center and the North point done in blue stone. This is one of many nice touches that everyone that visits oohs and aahs over. Another big change was the late addition of a new spa tub. We didn?t want it sitting on top of our new patio, so mark had a large hole dug and beautifully lined it with pavers that enabled us to sink the spa. His design also incorporated adequate space for changing of spa filters and access for technicians, and added new drainage to permit easy draining of the tub. He coordinated all the electrical requirements with our electrician and other contractors, and also incorporated a few low voltage paver lights around the edges of the spa for added safety. Premium installed upper and lower paver patios, a circular paver patio for the floor of our new gazebo, a winding path from the upper patio to the gazebo, took care of all the grading, soil and drainage requirements, built the foundation and coordinated the placement of a new gazebo, pergola and wood shed, designed and installed all of the lighting, constructed a new curved walkway, installed a 45? retainer wall and fence, and added a new kitchen area complete with an elevated herb garden (another of my last minute additions). Their landscape design also factored in the amount of shade and sun our yard receives and also incorporated trees, shrubs, flowers, etc., that will thrive in this area. Our backyard will absolutely explode with color this coming year! Throughout the project, the work ethic, attention to detail, and integrity of the Premium staff also far exceeded our expectations. Our once very ordinary back yard is now extraordinary. It?s gone from drab to fab. We now have an extension to our house that is perfect for relaxing or outdoor entertaining. Working with Mark is like having a partner. Not only are the foremen and laborers professional (and the work absolutely top notch?. I should mention also that they clean the areas up well?no messes were ever left behind), but also Mark and his team are genuinely interested in the best possible outcome, at the most reasonable price. Ideas are discussed. Opinions are shared. Costs are considered. And the result is a partner that you can trust - and a relationship that you can build on. We do not hesitate give Premium Lawn and Landscape our highest possible recommendation. Regardless of the size of your project, you will receive prompt, honest, reliable customer-focused service.
Description of Work: Premium installed over 1000 sqft of upper and lower paver patios (EP Henry), a circular paver patio for the floor of our new gazebo, a winding path from the upper patio to the gazebo, took care of all the grading, soil and drainage requirements, built the foundation and coordinated the placement of a new gazebo, pergola and wood shed, designed and installed all of the lighting, constructed a new curved walkway, installed a 45’ retainer wall and fence, and added a new kitchen area complete with an elevated herb garden (another of my last minute additions). I had asked to get an estimate for spring cleaning (weeding, mulching, hedging) and to remove hedges in the front yard and dead plants along the side and back of house. The crew arrived Monday morning to remove the existing dry stack. Once removed, they dug out a trench for the base of the new retaining wall. From there they progressed to building the wall. The project went smoothly and they were finished by the end of the day. This created an issue because they did such a fantastic job that we had them do the wall around the flower bed on the left side of the driveway; which was not in the original statement of work. Within a couple of days we were receiving rave reviews from our neighbors and two of them were planning to contact Premium for work at their houses. The crew was very professional and very friendly. We would not hesitate to hire Premium again.
Description of Work: Removed existing retaining wall of railroad ties and field stones in a dry stack around flower bed on right side of driveway. Replaced it with a retaining wall of field stone held in place with cement. New wall included two steps and drainage for gutter run-off. Re-pointed cracks in brickwork on front of house. Replaced field stones in a dry starck around flower bed on left side of driveway with a retaining wall of field sone held in place with cement.

The proposal outlined the job: FRONT YARD - Stump Grinding- Old stump in middle of the front yard - Grade the front of the property after the removal of the selected tree stump. Rough grade includes removal of debris & a smooth machined surface. Final Grade will be rolled smooth. - Clean 1'x10' section on the left side of the driveway. Pull weeds. Install Landscape Felt & White Stone (1") - Top- Soil Seed Application *****one month after original services were rendered due to hot weather BACK YARD - Clean Landscape beds. Pull weeds. Install Landscape Felt & White Stone (1") Their price was BY FAR the highest of the three I solicited, but they are the preferred landscaper in my townhouse community, so I decided to go with them. During the proposal process, it was explained to me that, since we were in the hot summer months, it would be best to postpone the seeding and soil until September. Everything was completed at the end of July and looked fine - just how we had planned. In September, I gave them a call again to remind them to come out and soil and seed the front yard. The yard had grown lots of weeds and crab grass since July, but we left it knowing that the landscaper would be coming out to seed and soil and would have to remove them to do so. Even though the proposal didn't state that they would be removing the weeds, I never thought they would leave them there, as they were aware it had been over a month since the original services were performed. They came out the following week. When I arrived home from work, I saw that they did, in fact, come to soil and seed the yard, but they did so ON TOP OF THE WEEDS AND CRAB GRASS! Further, they didn't mark off the area, so the soil was ALL OVER the sidewalk from people walking through and bringing their dogs. I called and asked for 1) the crab grass and weeds to be pulled and the area to be fixed, and 2) the area to be marked off so people knew it had just been seeded. I was advised that they would come back out and fix it as well as mark it off with hay/straw over the seeded area. A couple of days later, I arrived home from work and saw that they did come to my home. The entire area was COVERED with straw/hay and the WEEDS WERE STILL THERE! I called the office again, infuriated, left a message and didn't receive a call back from my contact. Two weeks later, we raked all of the hay/straw off the front "lawn" and the seeded areas had grown in nicely. However, all of the perimeter was brown and overgrown with the weeds and crabgrass. We mowed it so we could get an idea of how it would look and it still looked bare in some places and brown in others. Coincidentally, we received a bill that same day asking for payment of $160 for the soil and seeding. I called the office today to ask for them to come out and fix the lawn before I paid and I was advised that they weren't going to bother coming out to fix it. "I'm going to zero out the bill because I think that would be the best for both of us." I advised that I would be willing to pay the bill if they could come out and fix it and I was told "there is nothing I can do for you at this time." I am very disappointed in the service of this landscaper, as one would think the easiest thing in the world is to soil and seed an area. I am shocked that they would come to my home and think it is acceptable to soil and seed over weeds and crab grass.

This was a 4-yr old ash, grown from seed, that was just growing out of sapling stage -- right next the foundation. In very poor backfill soil, I couldn't do it by myself. Premium quoted $220 and offered a 60% survival odds. We agreed they would come back in October after the tree was dormant. The only ding against Premium was the field supervisor thought the office had notified me; but when they showed up this morning I had not been notified. Turns out "in October" meant "October 1st" ;-) But it was okay and they proceeded. They sent two brawny workers with shovels -- I had wondered if they would bring special tree excavation tools -- and they found the tree had an extremely deep and robust taproot -- two feet down, it was actually thicker than the trunk. Ultimately they had to sever it before they reached the bottom. It was a bare-root planting (as planned) but I have a feeling the survival odds went down. Nevertheless I am happy with the job -- it is well placed exactly where I asked, staked and tied, and we'll see how it does. They cleaned up both dig sites nicely.

We worked with Ritchie, and he was fantastic. He came to our home several times to discuss the plans, his estimate was significantly lower than the other two estimates we received, and his crews did outstanding work. They cleaned up their equipment daily and within two weeks the project was completed as promised. We highly reccommend this company for landscaping and hardscaping work.
