Description of Work: Overall, I was very disappointed with Window Universe. While I wanted to support a small, local business to replace 2 small bathroom sliders and one basement window, the quality and professionalism was not what I expected. The worst part was the actual installation. Not only were the men late, they had no apology. When I asked if I could get them something to eat, they said no thanks, they had just stopped and had lunch. ????!!!! One man did the install and the other man watched and took the old windows out their truck, even though I asked for them to stay at the house. The basement window was installed incorrectly, and there was a ton of sloppy caulking all around. When I complained, the manager offered to come back and perform the work that I had paid for and that I was charged for in the estimate provided. The actual windows do not seem to be of high quality, and do not slide back and forth easily - they wohbble loosely. For three small sliders, the bill was $1600, which comes to over $500 per window.

This is a great review for folks to read. Remember anytime you're getting into a remodeling project in your home there will be variables. In this case the original plan was to reframe the basement window with a new wood frame to even out the opening which would allow the new window to be mounted square. When the installer had the old window out it was clear that there was an existing frame underneath the old window and the additional work that had been planned was unnecessary. Typically we don't do work that isn't necessary so he didn't do it and we credited the customers account for work that was not needed. The customer then called the office to say she wanted that wood in there anyway, so we went back and put it in at no charge at a time that was convenient for her. It definitely sounds like that wasn't explained as clearly as it could have been so I'm not saying everything was perfect. We certainly don't want to overcharge people so we train the guys not to do extra work that is not needed. It's important for everyone to know that it is possible that a service call could be required. If it is we'll come out and handle your concerns. That's what we did in this case and that's what we always do. BTW, I don't see any record of the crew being late, but if they were late without calling that's not ok with me. I do see they had another small project that morning so it doesn't seem unreasonable that they would get some drive through on the way. They're working hard in the full summer heat and it seems like grabbing a burger on the road is a excusable. Should they have called if they were behind schedule, absolutely. Is it a big deal that they had food, not in my book. If you're considering a window project remember we offer complete lifetime warranties and the guaranteed best pricing on Angie's List. With over 400 reviews you can see that we're not perfect, but the VAST majority are A's and B's and we do try pretty hard to take care of everyone. Description of Work: Replaced 11 Windows at my home. What a great price and the service was nothing short of spactacular. We got 11 windows for what we payed for 6 with another company. They installed then in a timely and professional manner, cleaning everything up as they went along. The office kept me up to date on the process and when the windows would be arriving. A+, we have four more to replace and have no plans on shopping around.

Well, we're always sorry to hear it when a customer isn't happy with something. Remember we offer a 110% Best Value Guarantee which ensures that there is no company on Angie's List offering better prices than we do. I know folks sometimes think that replacing one window is going to be $200, but that's just not how it works. Our expert installation teams are made up of 2-3 people. Replacing one window still requires a visit to measure and at least a half day to install with driving time, etc plus the cost of the window itself. We offer the best pricing in town and we guarantee it. There is just no way to install one or two windows for the same price per window as a 20 window project. We want to keep great installers on our team which means they need to make a good wage. You probably wouldn't go to work for $50/day and our expert installers can't afford to do that either. We know many of our competitors won't even come out if you only have one or two windows to replace. We absolutely will come out and help with the project, but it does cost a bit more on a per window basis than a larger project. We do come out for free to inspect the project without any pressure or obligation. If you don't like what we have to offer you're free to look elsewhere. Posting a negative review after we've spent our time and money to try to help out isn't the most helpful response. Hope that makes sense. If anyone else is considering a replacement window project, big or small, we'll be happy to help.

Description of Work: My latest experience with Windows Universe was a rare miss, mainly because of a series of scheduling mishaps. I let them know that I wasn't happy with the scheduling issues, and I give the manager and the front office credit for working to address the issues. When the windows were finally installed, the two installers worked quickly in some frankly difficult weather. The windows are great; the thing that keeps them from an "A" rating is that I wish they were a bit more insulated from the cold. But the room is noticeably quieter with the new windows, and that speaks to the level of quality.

Thanks for taking the time to write. I am sorry that the scheduling could have been easier. This winter as a tough one for us from a scheduling standpoint. We lost 30% are days December through March due to weather than we have in the past 3 years. It's just hard to plan for that, but we do our best and I'm glad to hear things ended up well. Remember we do offer many options from an insulation standpoint including Super Spacer, triple pane glass, krypton gas fills and more. Met with the sales rep in early Feb 2011 from Windows Universe for an estimate, he was very professional and informative and there was no pressure sales. Went over all the details of what I was looking for in new replacement windows and he gave me an estimate and was also reassured that they can meet the condo association standards for the new windows and would be willing to work with providing any details/literature to send to the condo association and management board. After reviewing everything and getting approval, I moved forward and scheduled an appointment to have the windows installed in March 2011. Well they came, installed the windows, took about a half day, and they look great. Also notice a difference as there is not a draft like with the old windows, which means they properly sealed them. The installers even took the time to show me how to open them up and fold them down to clean them easily. It will hopefully be even more enjoyable this next winter as I hope to see my electric bill go down. Will confirm next Jan/Feb 2012 to see if there is truly a 20-30% savings as they promised. Oh and the other great thing is that these windows come with a lifetime warranty and is transferrable for a small fee (something like $50) if there's a new owner of the place. I would definitely recommend there business and would use them again.

That sounds like a perfect installation and it offers a great opportunity to talk about condo and homeowners associations. Many customers think dealing with their association is too much trouble so they consider dealing with a previously approved supplier. Unfortunately that supplier might not offer the best products or service. We see substandard products that are previously approved at associations all the time. At Window Universe we have NEVER come across an association that we couldn’t satisfy and we can typically do that while also saving the customer money. Don’t think that you’re stuck with one or two choices just because those are the recommended suppliers. We can help. By expanding the horizons of your association you’ll also be helping your neighbors save on their future projects as well. I contacted Window Universe about replacement windows, and the representative came to my house for a consultation in the middle of a week day. I took off work to meet with him, and he was about 30 minutes late. His presentation was ok, but I thought it was unprofessional that he took a phone call in the middle of our meeting. When he left, he said he'd have an estimate to us within a couple of days. When that didn't happen, I sent emails to him and phoned the main office for follow-up. The receptionist wouldn't answer my questions or help in any way, and said that I needed to speak with the sales rep directly. When I finally got in touch with him, he acknowledged that he'd dropped the ball and promised to provide an estimate asap. A month later, and I haven't heard a word. I was frustrated both because I took vacation time from work and because the company seemed totally unconcerned that they were losing a customer. This was a huge waste of my time, and I will never contact this company again.

A representative came to my house for an estimate for historic window replacement. He took measurements, and we discussed the kind of windows I wanted. He gave me a ballpark price and told me he would send me an estimate later that day. No estimate came that week, so I called the company the following week, and they told me that I'd need to speak to the representative that came out. I called the representative and he again told me that he will get it out later that day (though this is about two weeks later.) It is now a month later and needless to say I have chosen another installer.

Great sales (watch yourself) Great Door Good Customer Service Good Installers Due to this being the last min. of the tax credit season, they were obviously swamped and had to keep moving back my appointment. However, they did fit it in right before the deadline. I had to do some more follow up than typical, but given the situation we understood. Recommend the company highly. The other companies we got a quote from were significantly higher (trying to juice use due to expireing tax credit timeline).

I bought a Big Deal that I had got from Angie's List. I got a coupon from that company wherein I could get $500 worth of windows if I paid $200. In little writing on the bottom it said I could only use one coupon for six windows. I think they had that problem with other people so they let me use two coupons for five windows. It was a weird situation. They haven?t installed the windows yet. I called them and they sent a salesperson out. I didn?t understand what they were trying to sell me when I had the coupons. It took me about an hour to understand what he was there for. He didn?t even measure and he sent someone else out to measure, which only took a minute but I had to be home for it. They haven?t even come out and they haven?t even called me back to have the windows installed. It was very strange. The salesperson came out about two Saturday?s ago and they came out on last Thursday to measure. However, it?s actually not their fault. It?s the miscommunication between the service provider and the company that offered the big deal. They were on time though.

We appreciate your feedback and I’m glad to comment on the process involved in a window project. Here’s how it works: first our customers meet with one of our representatives to decide on style and energy efficient glass options. There are many options and styles available and we need to make sure everyone is on the same page. Next, one of our technicians will come out to take exact measurements before the windows are ordered. Everything we offer is custom made and we’ve found this step helps to dramatically reduce errors. Fewer errors lead to better service and lower prices for our customers. Once the final measurements have been taken the windows are ordered and they typically take 2-3 weeks to come in. Once they’ve been received and inspected we schedule the installation date. During the entire process our customers receive weekly email updates to keep them informed of the progress. In this particular case Angie’s List published a Big Deal coupon without the conditions that we submitted and agreed to. Several of our loyal customers were unhappy and we weren’t thrilled either. As soon as we were made aware we called Angie’s List to talk about their error and they refused to contact the affected customers to make them aware of the situation. We offered this member a much larger discount than we had previously agreed to in order to try to help with the unfortunate situation. We’ve been in touch with this member about her project and her window installation is scheduled for Tuesday next week. The total timeline for this project was 4 weeks and 3 days which is right in our standard window of 3-5 weeks from the date the customer orders the windows to the installation date. It sounded like this member was upset at Angie’s List because this is the second Big Deal ad that she has had a problem with. We’ve been very happy working with Angie’s List members, but we would advise the other members to be careful with the Big Deal ads. They seem to have an inconsistent track record for reliability. We certainly do regret any inconvenience this may have caused. Thanks!

The sales person was very likeable and not pushy at all, like some are. He explained all the details and allowed me to decide, without pressure, to go ahead with the purchase. The financing was painless when I applied for interest-free financing. They kept me appraised of the delivery each week by email, of the 4 weeks it took for the order to go through. When the installation was scheduled, the install crew arrived on time and proceeded to complete the work and clean up after. They were very professional and neat, even though the temp was in the 30's. All the work was done from inside the house except for the flashing around the bay window. I would use them again if the need arose.
Description of Work: I had 9 windows replaced, plus some additonal covering of exposed wood surfaces around the kitchen bay window.

Success! We love feedback like that. I think you pointed out two great things for the other members to keep in mind as they are thinking about replacing their windows. First, the financing options can be very easy. With our current 0% for 12 months option it’s a great time to replace your windows and spread the payments out over the course of a year. You don’t pay any interest and you save money every month on your utility bills. Second, none of our salespeople are pushy. We know all companies out there say they are nice, but with about 30 great reports I hope we’ve done a decent job of backing it up. Our people are experts at explaining the process and going through the options. We have many samples in all of the cars and we’ll be able to show you exactly what you will be getting up front. Many companies out there claim to not use the old fashioned high pressure sales tactics, but as soon as they get in your house they start telling you about a sale that ends today and silly discounts that are only available right now. We don’t do anything like that because our goal is to be the easiest company to work within the entire metro area. Salesman broke my dining room chair when he came to do his sales demo. I was furious. I talked to the boss and they fixed my chair in a couple of days. There is still a major scratch, but its not broken amymore. I do appreciate them fixing it as best they can before the Thanksgiving holiday. These are real stand up guys.

Well here’s a great opportunity to talk about how our company handles situations like this. In this case, our salesperson reports that he picked up this chair to push it in as he was getting up to leave and the top part came off in his hand. The customer agrees that this is what happened. So, it sounds like our representative was not acting with any disrespect towards the customer’s belongings, but we still have a troubled chair to deal with. The customer called our office after business hours on Saturday to talk about the situation. We were still in the office and we did take the call. We asked her to email a picture and told her we would be glad to address the situation as soon as our office reopened. After some initial research it was determined that this model of chair has been discontinued. Our options are limited because we can’t replace the chair so we will need to have the chair repaired and we will offer the customer a credit for her inconvenience. It is important for the other members reading this to remember that sometimes things just go wrong. I remember once I was in a customer’s home and I bumped into a table causing a wine glass to tip over and shatter. I felt horrible, but we bought them a new wine glass and we sent them a nice bottle as a thank you gift once their project was complete. All we can do when something like this happens is address the situation and make things right to the best of our ability. While it is unfortunate that this is the first negative report our company has ever received, I suppose it helps to offer some insight into the way we operate. We are always here, we can always be reached both by phone and by email and we are always more than happy to address any concerns from past customers and prospective customers alike.
