I bought the screen door special. I called them before ordering the coupon and was assured that the door would fit and all was well. I asked for an estimate to install the door and was given $100 estimate. When the estimator showed up he told me that the installation fee was $225 and there was an additional $175 set up and disposal fee (no existing storm door to dispose of). I called the office on why I was being charged a disposal fee for nothing preexisting and she never got back to me. I called again and was told this was standard and there was nothing to do about it. So beware of hidden charges. I guess install does not mean measure and dispose of the carton it came in - that's an extra $175! Very disappointing.

Oh no! As much as we hate to hear any customer isn’t completely happy we do appreciate all feedback. This one is a bit of an unusual situation. We try REALLY hard to be as transparent as we can with all of our pricing. We completely itemize every project and all of our pricing is clearly printed on triplicate forms so there is no guesswork. We don’t use any gimmicks or tricks and all of our quotes are set in stone for at least 30 days so folks can think it over and decide if they’d like to work with us. Anyone who has shopped for windows probably knows all companies do not operate this way. We really try hard to avoid getting into pricing on the phone before we’ve seen a project because sometimes there are usual factors involved and they can affect the cost to install the project. For example this storm door offer is for standard sizes which are VERY specific. There is really no way we could have told this customer over the phone that it would fit. We just don’t know until we come out and measure it. We intended this package for folks to purchase the storm door and install themselves. In those cases the customer just shoots us over the measurements of the door they have (typically brickmoud measurements are what you would want for a storm door) and we can let you know the unit size of the door. We do offer installation of these doors and the pricing is the same for every single customer. Once we read this review our general manager called the customer to discuss the situation. We offered her a full and complete refund (including the amount purchased through Angie’s List) if she wasn’t comfortable moving forward with the project. She said that she did want to proceed with the order and we’re thrilled to have her as a customer! I would ask that if anyone feels like they are not comfortable with something we are offering just call us up and ask to speak to a manager about it. We all come in to work every day with the goal of helping customers. This report will covered in our staff meeting this week and we’ll all work hard to make sure every customer feels comfortable with what we’re offering. I'm very pleased with the work performed by this local company with the replacement of the middle piece of glass of an existing picture window in my living room where moisture penetrated between the two pieces of glass. The work was performed during a busy time for them but just prior to a scheduled event at my house which was important to me. They were very professional and provide a good product for window replacements at a fair price. We will be replacing all old double-hung windows upstairs with Window Universe in the very near future.

April 17 – I called to set up an appointment. April 20 – Salesman arrived on time. This was the 3rd company I got an estimate from. After he took measurements and went over my choices with me, he gave me an estimate. The estimate was a little higher than the cheapest one, but much lower than the highest estimate. I was impressed with the reviews for this company on Angie’s list and with the salesman. He gave a straight presentation without pressuring me. I asked how long it would take to get the door installed. He said 3 to 6 weeks. I signed the contract and paid half, the remainder to be paid upon installation. April 23 – They called to set up appointment for the installer to take final measurements. April 30 – Installer showed up on time and took final measurements. He told me they would order the door t he next day. May 14 – got an email letting me know everything is on order and when it comes in they will call me. June 4 – I called to check on the order. They said it was supposed to come in that day and that they would call me in a day or 2 to set up an installation appointment. June 6 – They called to set up installation appointment. They would be here between 1 and 3. June 13 – The 2-man installation team arrived at 1:30. They did a professional job, installing the door. It took 2 hours. They left the site clean. It was nice watching a couple of men who knew their jobs. I am very pleased with my experience with Window Universe. They were friendly, helpful and professional. I would use them again and recommend them to friends.

We had two tilting windows installed in the ceiling of two rooms in our house, beneath the lightwells of skylights. This setup allowed the windows to be tilted open and allow ventilation through the louvered, rooftop skylight. The problem was that these windows did not seal and one would fall actually fall out of the ceiling on very windy days. We wanted a solution that would stay in place and keep our heat and AC from venting out through the ceilings of our house. I called several window companies and most just dismissed me off-hand, saying that they didn't do skylights. Some companies ignored my description of the job and just drove by my house and called me with an estimate. Only Window Universe actually listened to my description of the job and offered to come take a look. Unfortunately, they were a no-show on the first appointment (be absolutely sure you get an automated e-mail confirmation from them!), but they quickly offered a small discount on the job as a way of apology---I was incredibly impressed with this dedication to customer service. AJ Bennett showed up to look at our situation. Of the three estimators who actually showed up to look at the job, he was the only one to offer a solution. Everyone else simply said the job couldn't be done and told me to replace the skylights or sent me exorbitant estimates. He suggested that the ceiling windows be replaced with horizontally installed double-hung windows with the springs unlatched. He held many sample windows horizontally for us to be sure that this solution would meet our needs. In addition, the crystal-clear pricing policy for Window Universe makes it easy to trust that you're getting exactly the product you want. The installer showed up to personally measure out the job and to get an idea of what the job would entail. When the windows arrived, we scheduled an installation date and the same installer came out with a helper. They were both extremely professional and dealt well with the unexpected difficulties of installing the windows. Surprisingly, the vertical windows in the bedroom posed the most difficulty. From top to bottom, Window Universe demonstrated expert staff with great customer service. Everyone was knowledgeable and willing to work with us. If it wasn't for AJ and the team at Window Universe, we probably would have ended up replacing the original skylights on our house.

The crew was very professional. The crew showed up on time, performed the job smoothly and quickly (only took a couple hours). The crew worked in a clean fashion, that is, they did not make much of a mess and they did a great job cleaning up afterwards. They took care not to damage my hardwood floors. The crew quickly understood the type of mulls it needed to build in order to match the historic styled mulls that were orginally in the house.
Description of Work: Window Universe definitely deserves their high ratings. I live in the historic district of Old Town, Alexandria. Window Universe restored my windows to the originall historic look. Windows Universe replaced two large, ugly, 1970's style bay windows with twin windows in each. In order to match the historic style, construction of two custom wood mulls between the twin windows was required; as opposed to installing manufacturer pre-attached twin windows. Window Universe did an excellent job! The mulls and windows perfectly match the mulls/windows of the the other identical historic row homes on the block.

Sales Call/Estimate: When scheduling the appointment, Window Universe was prompt. During the sales call, I fully explained the main reason for replacing the door was to solve a water leak in the basement (just below the door to be replaced). The old door was 18 years old, and we had suspicions that the flashing was failing or not installed properly by the builder. I showed the salesperson the damage in the basement caused by water coming from the door threshold. The sales person took some pictures to consult with their installation manager. I was told that it would be "no problem" for the door installers to handle the job in about 4 hours. Installation Day: On the first day, the installers removed the old door. They said that the root cause of my water leaks was that my deck was bolted to the house through the siding. After calling the main office several times, the main office claimed it would cost $3,000-$4,000 to properly jack up my deck and fix the problem fully. The alternative was another flashing method that would cost $300. I was disappointed that after I purposefully pointed out my issues, neither the salesman or his installation manager could figure out that the deck was bolted through the siding. All of the other houses in my neighborhood were built the same way, so it is common. My main disappointment was when I asked the main office why the correct repair would be so expensive, they said they needed to buy jacks to jack up my deck. This type of cost should not be passed on to a Customer who provided information about the repairs needed well in advance of the job. If the company stated that they could fix the issue, they should buy the tools themselves or subcontract out that part of the job to another contractor who already owns the tools. Since it was February and the installers had already removed my old door, I had not choice but to use the cheaper flashing method. In the end, it took them 2 days (12 total hours) to finish the job. 8 more than estimated. I am very happy with the installation team, who did a thorough and high quality job. My only gripe is with the main office and the fact that they missed the main cause of my leak when it was in the open for them to see. Then, they shocked me with an enormous estimate because they didn't have the equipment to handle the proper fix. I spoke to the Regional Manager, who have me a written warranty on the repair, which was nice. Overall Experience: In the end, I am partially satisfied. I really wanted the issue fixed thoroughly and completely and I got a partial fix.

Well, this report is a bit of a tricky one. We have been in touch with this customer extensively since this project started and I’d be glad to give the members a rundown of what was going on. The customer had a leak in the back of his house that had been there for a while before he decided to order a new door. The leak was obviously a pre-existing condition in the home and with vinyl siding on the outside it is impossible to see the underlying structure until we remove the siding. When we started the installation and removed the siding around the door it became clear that the water was entering the home where the deck was bolted through the siding rather than through the old door. Whoever built the deck did it the quick way and ran the bolts right through the vinyl siding with no flashing, which created an entry point for the water. This is something that we see from time to time. The problem here is in the definition of the “right” way to fix any problem. The solution we proposed and ultimately completed was to flash over the top of the bolts to drain the water away from the house, seal the openings, and replace the damaged wood. We did all of this for around $300 and the problem was completely fixed. The unexpected issue was fixed in one additional day for a relatively minimal additional cost. The result was good, but the explanation is where we could and should have done better. The root of the problem was in the definition of the “right” way to fix any issue. There are many ways we could fix a leak in the back of a house. An extreme example would be that we could knock down the entire back wall of the house and rebuild it. That would fix the leak, but it would cost a lot of money, take a lot of time and it probably wouldn’t be considered the “right” way to fix this problem. The customer had repeatedly asked us for a quote on removing and reinstalling the deck, which is really overkill in fixing a problem like this. There are several points at which we could have done a better job of explaining the situation and this is one. We never should have offered a quote for doing that work because that work was never the right way to go to fix the problem. The cost was high not because of the tools (jacks can be rented for less than $40 per day), but it is in the time, permits and county inspections necessary when building a deck. It is similar to us saying we can knock down the back wall and rebuild it for $15,000. We could, but it wouldn’t be necessary and we would never suggest that as a solution. We were trying to solve the problem in the most efficient way possible, which is a key point of the training that all of our people go through. This project was completed the exact same way we would have done it on my mom’s house. We could and should have done a better job of explaining that to the customer. Our regional manager followed up with this customer again after this report posted. The customer did say that he would work with us again and that he appreciated the follow up. This report did also provide us with a great teaching tool for our office staff. The idea that success in our business goes well beyond doing a great job installing windows and doors is a very important one for all of our people to understand. The communication that we offer and the way we explain issues is absolutely critical to our success and based on this review we did not do as well as we should have in this case. They got it right, from start to finish. They were one of four companies we checked out at the Home and Garden Show and we were impressed with their presentation, knowledge and openness. This was reinforced when we invited them out for the BIG SELL...only there wasn't a big sell, unlike others, who would only speak to us if both of us were present (hey, we work, no way both of us can be present 8-12). They let their product, and their company culture do the selling. The price for the windows was in the ballpark, not the lowest nor the highest (over $6,000 higher not including the door). The price for the door made the total price well worth it. AJ did a good job of finding one that met our expectations and keeping us informed. They kept us informed about the status of our order by email on a weekly basis. We knew it would take at least two perhaps three weeks for the custom order to be manufactured, then we would have to schedule a time to install. They emailed us on a Saturday that our door and windows were in. On Monday, we scheduled the installation for two days at the end of the month. Four hours later they called to say they could do the installation the next day, two weeks early. Needless to say, that was agreeable! They said they would be here about 9:30 am, and they were, on the dot. Pete, who had done the window measurements two weeks earlier, led the team. They were done before 3:30, with the exception of some exterior trim on the door and two windows. Pete was back the next day to complete the work. There was no mess, inside or out. Other than a door and windows that we are loving and enjoying, you'd never know they had been here. As an architect, that's the highest praise I can give any contractor. It doesn't get any better than this. My only sadness is that I don't have any more doors or windows to replace...but I will be recommending them to my friends and clients in the future. I chose Window Universe primarily because of their good reviews. I guess they were saving up their screw-ups for me. I need to say up front that I had no problem with the quality of the product or the installation crew; my problem was with the office/support staff and the general manager. They made three screw-ups two of which were totally avoidable and caused us significant inconvenience. Products were ordered in early November and was told it would be 3-4 weeks; wound up being 8 weeks. Installation day arrived on the coldest day in January. Windows went in without a problem. Crew removed one of the patio doors (the one in the master bedroom) before unpacking the new door. Turns out the new doors were the wrong exterior color! Oops!! No one bothered to check the order when it was delivered to the office. The crew had to attempt to re-install the old door; best they could do still left a one inch gap. They covered the opening with thick plastic but it didn't do much to keep the cold out and the plastic ballooned with the slightest wind - this is in the master bedroom mind you. GM came over to see what I was complaining about but totally avoided the notion that I deserved a discount for the pain & suffering. After two weeks of feeling like I was sleeping in a tent, the new doors arrived. Glass was broken in one of the door so we got to wait another two weeks. Doors finally arrived intact and with the right color. At this point, I guess the scheduling person thought she wasn't contributing enough to the fiasco so we got an email from her confirming the crew would be there on Monday. Wife took the day off and, of coarse, no one shows up. When I called, scheduler says it was a mistake - even though she has sent a confirmation email two days earlier. Finally, a week later the job was finished and we're perfectly happy with the product. GM finally broke down and said he'd give us a 3% discount and would like to buy my wife and I a gift certificate from our favorite restaurant. Some consolation I guess, but I would have much rather had the job done right the first time.

Well this one isn’t my favorite review, but I think it does offer an opportunity to talk about potential issues that can come up (albeit very rarely!) In this case the door was the wrong color and the reordered door did break on the truck. Two issues that each happen vary rarely combined on the same project, not great. We have discussed this project at length in our office and there are a couple ways we could have handled things better. This customer is now on a very short list of customers who we use as training tools for all of our office staff. The problems with the products happened, there’s really not much we could have done to prevent that, but we could have done a better job of communicating and offering solutions. For example we could and should have double-checked the color of the door before starting work. Once the door was determined to be the wrong color we did offer to install it so everything would be sealed up tight and then we could switch it out when the right one came in. The customer turned down our offer, but now that we hear how he was unhappy with the seal perhaps we could have suggested that option more adamantly. Regarding the scheduling issue, that one was an issue of this Monday versus next Monday. Confusing terminology that has no place in our business. We’ve since standardized and automated all of our confirmation emails so that they only list a date rather than a day of the week. We really do value the feedback in these reports, both positive and negative, and we try every day to do better. I tell our staff all the time that it’s ok to make a mistake, but it’s not ok to make the same mistake twice. I scheduled an appointment for a presentation and estimate. The salesperson was running a little late the day of the appointment but did phone to let me know so the company gets points for that. He provided a written estimate but could not answer all of my questions, which was understandable, and he said he would check and get back with me. It is now 11 days after the appointment and I have heard nothing from the salesperson. Obviously he is not interested in my business. All I can say is if Window Universe is non-responsive before they get your money, imagine what kind of service you would get after they get your money. Buyer beware.

Well, we view any feedback as an opportunity to improve and I’d like to offer an explanation of this one. After reading this review one of the founders of Window Universe personally called this customer to speak about her experience. They were able to connect earlier today. From their conversation and our discussions with the rep who met with this customer here’s what went on. Our rep met with this customer for quite a while going over several options for doors at their initial appointment. She was looking for a brand that we don’t deal with very frequently due to past quality issues. We explained that situation and offered another brand that has a better track record and reputation. The customer was looking for a different color of weather stripping for the door which is something I don’t think we’ve ever been asked for before. The rep told the customer he would look into that option and get back with her. He called the manufacturer and they told him they do not offer options for the color of weather stripping. He then called a distributor that we occasionally deal with and they said they would look into it, but after a few days they were ultimately unable to help. As a last effort he had a call in to another local distributor. What he should have done was call the customer to let her know he was working on it, but was not yet able to find what she was looking for. It turns out two days after this report posted we finally got a call back from the last distributor saying we could get the weather stripping, but there is a relatively high minimum order so it might not be a desirable option since the customer only wanted one door. I guess the moral of this story is that while we were working hard to get the specific product the customer was looking for we didn’t communicate that to her. I would let all future customers know that our office is staffed 60 hours per week and our folks have their cell phones and email access 24 hours per day. We even have a Customer Care line (888-517-3678) that goes directly to a senior manager. We take customer service seriously and we strive to be the easiest company in town to work with. If at any point during your experience with us you don’t feel that everything is being handled perfectly please give us a chance to fix it. We’re a service business and while nobody is perfect 100% of the time, every person at our company works hard every day to take care of our customers. I would encourage anyone thinking about windows or doors to read all of our reviews (and my personal responses to each and every one) when deciding which company to call. Thanks!

We started in 2010 to research replacement windows. We succumbed to many high pressure in -home 3 hour sales pitches and were totally put off the whole idea. Along came Windows universe and within one hour we had all the answers and PRICE that we needed. What I liked most about them was that we were able to spread the project out over 2 years and avail of their 0% financing program. We did it in 2 parts ,upper floor then lower floors. They were extremely patient with all of our questions as we changed our minds a few times,but we ended up with what we needed. We did encounter some small issues like cranks and hinges not operating properly but they were resolved within 24 hours. The crew worked swiftly and neatly. Last spring we decided to try them for siding and again a great deal and great work. We added value to our home and are totally enjoying our new windows and the comfort they bring.I would like to reinforce again that this was the only company that didn't try to pressure you into signing with them. Also I loved the spec sheet they have where you can sit down and tally up your own costs. No hidden costs anywhere. Also they have a terrific variety of colors to choose from.

MANY window companies try to pull all sorts of high pressure sales maneuvers. They can be very believable and we find many smart folks who paid too much for windows because a company told a great story about a “neighborhood discount” or a :manufacturers rebate” or some other gimmick. They came in October for the estimate and to measure for the new windows. They kept in weekly contact with the status of the windows. The sale person was very professional. The installer was very friendly and professional. They arrived on time and finished ahead of the estimated time, since this was one of the very cold days this winter that was a good thing. I would use them again.

The salesman showed up a day earlier than scheduled, but I wasn't home. I called the company after seeing his card, and he returned the next day. I asked about the "coupon" for Angie's List members, but he said it did not provide any discount off regular prices, and that the price listed on the coupon was not available, which I found misleading. His price quote was slightly higher than one I'd received earlier, but he agreed to match the lower quote. I was told that a welder would come to remove the bars from the windows before the new windows were installed, but the welder never came, which the installer blamed on an oversight. The installers cut the bars, and then installed the two windows. After I contacted the company multiple times, the company scheduled a welder to replace the bars two weeks after the windows were installed. The welder showed up a day earlier than scheduled, so I had to leave work during the middle of the day to meet him at my house. Instead of putting the bars back the way they were originally installed, he installed them by adding a mounting bracket and drilling into the edge of the windows, which does not look as good as they were before (partly because the brackets are a different color). I had originally been given the impression that the bars would be reinstalled as before. Although I was told that I'd only be charged for the actual cost of the welder (who is a subcontractor), I was charged for both removal and reinstallation of the window bars, even though the welder did not remove the bars. Overall, the new windows look good, and the installation itself went smoothly. But I was disappointed by the multiple scheduling issues and the misleading pricing.

Oh no! We hate to hear from a customer who wasn’t 100% thrilled, but the good news is any feedback like that is used to help us do better. The scheduling difficulties are disappointing, but I think I know what might have caused them. We switched the software that we use to schedule our entire team, from the sales folks, to the window and door installers, the service techs and welders. It’s a pretty advanced program, but the roll out was not as smooth as anyone expected. This was around the same time your project was going on so the timing is probably an indicator of the cause. Now our system sends out automated confirmation emails to customers reminding of their appointment and the dates in the email are pulled directly from the calendar that the sales team sees so there is no way that problem could be repeated. There is an entirely different answer on the Angie’s List coupons. The pricing we advertise is absolutely available to all Angie’s List members. In this business there is a lot of variability. For instance sometimes customers choose all sorts of different options and configurations. Sometimes the old window frames are completely rotten or destroyed by termites. Sometimes folks want the most energy efficient windows on the market, sometimes they want the least expensive thing they can get. I guess the point is we can’t advertise every price for every situation so the pricing we do advertise is a basic installation of our most popular windows and we write that in the disclaimer that goes along with every package. The goal of all of our advertising is to let prospective customers know that we are not pricing new windows at $800 or $1,000 per window like some companies do and we don’t play typical “the price is only good tonight” pricing games like many companies do. MANY companies use these pricing gimmicks and they’re pretty good at rationalizing them. We’ll hear stories of a company that offers “neighborhood discounts”, “factory rebates”, “yard sign discounts”, or “initial product offering”. ALL of these are gimmicks. Nothing in this business changes on a daily basis and anyone who tries to explain why a price would be different tomorrow is trying to trick you. We’ve structured our business to be the single easiest company to work with in the entire metro area. We do thank you for letting us know how you felt during the process and we discussed your report in our staff meeting last week. We continue to work to do better every single day and we thank all the Angie’s List members for their continued support!

We contacted Windows Universe for replacement of our 5 windows that had lost the seal and we could not see out of them. The sales rep scheduled an appointment at our convienence. He arrived on time and proceeded to show us his product. He was very thorough in his explanation. He worked in the warehouse for several years prior to becoming a sales rep for their company so he knew how well manufactured the product was. After he showed us the product, he asked if we had any questions. We were satisfied with his presentation and ordered the replacement windows. He told us it would take 3 to 4 weeks to manufacture the windows as they custom make their windows. We were contacted on all phases of the manufacture and progress of the order. Each week they would call or e-mail the status of our order. When the installation day arrived, the installers again were on time. The installation went flawless. After the installation, they showed us how to clean the winnows, and all the features of the product. They asked us to inspect their work and if we had any problem,questions or was there was anything else they could do for us. The old windows and trash were removed and the job was finished. Everyone at Windows Universe was very polite, friendly and professional. I would use them again when the need arises and would recommend the company to anyone who has the need for windows. definitely an " A" rating for this experience!!!

It started with the pleasant staff that answers your first phone call. They were always polite, never rushed. And, returned calls and emails. Our sales agent, Adam Bennett, was extremely nice and patient. I changed my mind about colors and hardware; Oh, a few times. He always returned emails and then called to make sure he got the details right. Three young men did the actual work. All were nice people, efficient and exact. There is a lot of work and detail that goes with replacing a door. The doors look great. Love the color I chose and the hardware. This is a great company and we may be back for windows in the future.
Description of Work: Old double entry door unit removed and new double door unit installed. Old door unit was no longer secure and had air leaks. New unit is Provia 20 gauge smooth steel and is rated Energy Star efficient. Door unit comes with features that increase strength and security of the doors.

Overall Excellent job all around. Everything was on time and on budget. The same person came in for installation as for the detailed measurement. Eric, the installer, went above and beyond. I had some wood to be replaced around windows that was not part of scope as we didn't see the issue until removing the old windows. He replaced everything without any problems. I will can also say that Eric was a "problem solver" type of guy. There were numerous issues typical to a 100 year plus old house that he handled with not problems. Highly recommend the company and if I ever need to do more windows I am coming back for certain.
Description of Work: I have an old DC row house with two original single panel windows that rotted through. Shopped around for a quality windows company. Found windows universe that was a fraction of price of 2 other vendors.

The process of replacing your windows can be a nightmare or a dream. With Window Universe it was a dream. Everything went far smoother than I expected. The salesman was not at all pushy - in fact my time with him was informative and pleasant. In addition, the company did everything he promised they would. They kept in touch with me each week so I would know how the process of manufacturing and delivery was moving along. They came when they said they would and even finished a day early. Everyone was professional and friendly. But, more importantly, the window itself is great. In addition, my bill was over half what my neighbor paid - and I got the fantastic "Garden Window" too. I really couldn't be happier. If you need replacement windows I highly recommend Window Universe - you will not be disappointed!
Description of Work: We had all of the windows in our home replaced (approx 22). We had large double hung windows in the front changed to picture windows with the prairie grid. Beautiful! Also we took out 2 side by side windows in the kitchen and put a large "Garden Window" in their place. This changes the whole look of our home. Folks comment on it as soon as they walk in. The remaining windows were all regular double hung except that now we can actually open them!

My experience with Window Universe was superb. AJ and Dan (I think his name was) showed up a little early to their appointment, but that was okay. AJ was in training, so that's why there were two. Maybe this resulted in a little more relaxed atmosphere, because AJ was still learning, but that worked for me! Their estimate was slightly higher than the competitor's (Window World) but they price matched the windows. They couldn't price match the doors because they only sell a more expensive brand (Pella) so that is the only reason why I didn't go with them for the doors. Window Universe's communication was excellent throughout the process. AJ sent me a nice follow-up email later on that evening. My measurement was scheduled within three days and was very easy to schedule. The lady I was emailing was very nice and accommodating (email is easier for me than phone during the day and she didn't try to insist on calling). The windows were installed just about 6 weeks after the estimate. Pete and his crew (a total of four) were wonderful. Very friendly (to me and my pets) and very considerate of my home and pets. Apparently two windows were measured/ordered incorrectly so they had to schedule a second install day. That was a bummer, but mistakes happen (we are only human). Pete bent the aluminum wrapping on the first day so it wouldn't take long to replace the remaining two windows when he returned and he was very upfront about the mistake. And apologized more than once. We scheduled an appointment for two Saturdays from the original install (they said it would take two weeks for the windows to come in). Three days before the appointment, something came up and I had to reschedule. It was no problem at all to change my appointment to one day earlier. All-in-all, a wonderful experience and I would not hesitate to use them again or to recommend them to a friend.

Windows Universe price was very competitive and good communication. There was delay in installation as windows were damaged while loading in truck first time. There were few issues after initial install but they were fixed promptly. The window material is good but not best as promised in sales pitch. We are overall statisfied.

I might take exception with your comment about the product quality ;-) Since we’ve become one of the largest companies in the area virtually every window manufacturer wants us to carry their products. We make decisions on what products to offer based on a whole combination of factors including quality, warranty, service level, lead times, breadth of product offering, energy efficiency, financial stability, etc. There are many, I mean MANY, window manufacturers that had great brochures, impressive sales pitches and seemed like solid companies only to go out of business leaving their customers with no warranty and no service parts. I’m thinking of Schuco Windows, Kensington Windows, Republic Windows, and I could go on and on. There are also several window manufacturers out there who look great, but they have serious underlying financial issues that might prevent them from being around too much longer (I probably shouldn’t mention them by name). While we can never know exactly what the future holds we work very hard to ensure that never happens to our customers. This is why we can offer complete lifetime warranties that cover all aspects of the window including glass breakage and labor for as long as our customers own their homes. The warranties are even transferable to the next owner so they help with your resale value! So, I hope that quick story helps future customers in thinking about projects like this and please don’t hesitate to let us know if our full-service window service team can help out in any way. Most window companies consist of a salesperson and a sub-contractor. This is why they offer short warranties and why they charge for service calls. We are not most companies. Remember there is absolutely never any service charge for our past customers. Sorry for the slightly long winded answer, I just hate seeing people get talked into silly deals based on partial information.
