This one did take about 2 weeks longer than expected to be ready to install. We do experience some lost work days around the holidays and some of our manufacturing partners alter their shipping schedules this time of year. We were tried to schedule the installation on 2/12/2013, but the customer chose 2/22/2013 which was just fine with us. Now the project is completed and the customer has ordered more windows so hopefully that's a sign that everything is looking great!

The sales call was very low key and pleasant. However the measuring appointment was not so great. The person never showed up for the appointment even though I had gotten several calls saying they were running late. I had to call the next day to reschedule. On the day of the installation the guys were again running about an hour late but no one bothered to call and let me know. However, once they did arrive they started right in and never even took a break for lunch. Everything was cleaned up and the windows look great!

We're glad to hear this member was satisfied with the new windows! On the day this project was measured our technician was on another job site dealing with an unexpected issue. He called the office to let everyone know that he would be delayed. By the time he left that customers home it was after 8pm. He thought the office knew he wasn't going to make it to this measure appointment and the office thought he was going to call back if unable to make it. It was a communication error that shouldn't have happened. One moral to the story is that if we run into unexpected delays on a project we will do everything we can to get it resolved before leaving. We never want to leave a project half finished and we ALWAYS need to make sure a home is secure and weather tight before we leave. We do our best to estimate how long everything will take and we're typically pretty accurate. We can always improve and we all come to work every day trying to do better. I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal for this service. The work is not done yet, because it is taking a little longer, but so far they have been great. We live two hours away so their office manager drove from Alexandria, VA to Baltimore, MD where our rental properties are and then measured so he could prepare a quote. Then he drove back to Leesburg, VA where we live so we were impressed with that. He wanted to make sure that we did not get forgotten because the person who originally was supposed to come had gotten sick.

Window universe was the only window vendor I contacted. I generally get several quotes but I was so impressed by the reviews and the response of this company that I decided to go with them. From my first meeting with a salesman, Alex, to the end of the project I was very impressed by this company. Not only was the cost reasonable, but Alex pointed out several ways we might save some money on the overall project. The project took a little longer than planned as one of the windows was the wrong size. These things happen, and really it was no big deal. I also appreciated that the company sent an email each week to provide me an update on the status of the project. Overall a very positive home-improvement experience.

The salesman was a nice guy but didn't know the product well enough. Not to mention the receptionist or scheduler was confrontational on the phone. I still gave the benefit of a doubt and sat through a sales pitch. In the end I decided to use Paul Henry Windows located in Warrenton, Va very professional, no high pressure sales tactics, and offered a superior product compared to all the other companies in the Northern Virginia region. Need I mention he is the only company in the region who has "0" negative experiences mentioning his name on the web of work he has ever performed on any customers property!! Be smart save yourself the headaches call Paul Henry Windows!

I used Window Universe to install 2 doors and replace one door with a window. The quality of the product is great. The process to get them installed was torturous. It started in May/June 2013 with expected installation toward the end of July. Two of the three items were installed about a month late. The third item was the wrong size. The installer took the item back and told them as much. While on vacation at the end of August, I received a phone call telling me the installer was wrong and they would be out in a few days to install the door even if I was not there. I stopped that and asked them to come when I was back in town. When I returned, I called three times and never received a call back. Finally in October they came out and saw that the original installer was correct and the door was wrong. They had to send the door back and I waited another few weeks for it to come in and get installed. | |The amount if time I had to take for this was unbelievable. While at the end they finally seemed to get someone on their staff that knew how to deal with the situation, it is unlikely I will use this company again.

There were several reasons, but we know that it wasn't up to this customers expectations and we've taken steps to make sure things are running better. Over the summer of 2013 we had a little turnover in our office to improve our service level. Certainly most of our projects ran great through that time, but some didn't and this was one of them. It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. It went alright. I got all new windows and a door on a condo so it came out to almost $5,000. I've used them in the past and I might use them in the future. I think I actually might go with a different window company with competitive prices and that sort of thing. When I used them before, I thought they had done the window measurements at the same time that they did send the first guy out but they didn't. They did window measurements separately which to me is using more time and coordination than what is really necessary. Why not measure the windows at the same time especially because in this case it ended up costing more than what the estimator, the first person that came out, said. Without actually doing the true measurement, what ended up happening was we had to change the fiberglass door to steel door because it had to go customed which we would have known the first day. When I've used them before, this was several years ago when I had them do my house windows, that whole order got messed up and everything, but the scene that had bothered me on that one was I wanted colors that contrasted on the windows like we're using the dark trims and then the windows are white. I explained it to the salesperson and he sold me on dark framed windows which cost a lot more than just putting the brown flashing around which was what I really wanted in the first place and doesn't cost any extra. Had I known that, I could have done it all the way around the house. We ended up doing it on the front part of the house because, thankfully, when the windows came in they actually were the wrong size. This was the second time I've used them and this time I was disappointed because they did not measure them on the first appointment and I had to coordinate with a tenant each time so it made it so much harder.

We always appreciate feedback, but this one is a little interesting to hear because our process has not changed. We always send a lead installer out to double check a project before anything is ordered and we always have. We would MUCH rather identify a potential problem before anything is ordered than after. This practice reduces errors and makes installation day run much more smoothly. In this case we did identify that due to the construction of the home the door the customer had picked would not work. We offered other alternatives, she picked one and we offered a discounted price. While we never hope to encounter an error this was MUCH better than discovering an error on installation day after the customer had waited several weeks and a custom made product had been produced and delivered. We work hard everyday to increase our accuracy and reduce errors, but we may never be 100% perfect. We would be glad to put our accuracy rate up against any company in town and if we do miss the mark on something we try very hard to miss well leaving the customer in the best possible spot. This time it left her with a better product at a discounted price and the project was still completed on time. We know the need to choose another product was inconvenient and we're not making an excuse for that. Regarding the last project this member ordered, we're not sure what she means. I was the person who met with her initially and she got exactly what she picked out. We offer a whole range of options at a whole range of prices, but we NEVER push someone into something. It's your house and you can get absolutely anything you want. nov/2012 This was a very disappointing experience-- It was this one negative that brought it down for me. Everything else was great but this one thing-- We just closed on the house and we definitely wanted some new windows for our place. I made several calls to different window companies to come out for an estimate. Eventually, what ultimately came down to for us is the price and windows universe beat all the top people in Angie's list on that. The sales rep Jason was very good-- I had all sorts of questions for him and he was able to answer them all clearly. He went into detail about the different options that they provided and we were able to work up a cost effective solution to the many options that were offered. Just comparing to the other companies, I could not pick and choose as much--- So, we signed the contract and got these windows ordered ASAP. Jason quoted a 8-10 week turn around, I was hoping for something sooner but it is what it is and I asked him if he could do whatever he can to try to expedite the process. Now, from here I had to deal with the installation department. These guys, DO NOT UPDATE, you have to CALL--First week I got an email stating that I would be updated on a weekly basis on the status of this work order. This was the last email i got. So, I called on the third week to get a status and they tell me that the order is still being processed-- I asked them to give updates through email each week on the progress. Is that too much to ask? A simple email? Put my mind at ease and let me know that my order is still being built out and it is not yet ready! 2 weeks roll by again and I got no updates. It as simple as telling me that the order is still being processed. I was so disappointed, so disappointed because now i have to play the role of the customer service rep and call for my updates. To summarize my complaint here-- Lack of communication.
Description of Work: Well this was a long time coming-- I just realized i did not submit this-- for last year November 2012---- I will say that this was rated much lower but after a year the workmanship on the windows are great! I hope they have resolved their communication issues by this time, it would really be too bad they have a great team here from when i met them. We still run into simple problems like our emails ending up in a customer’s junk mail folder, but other than something we can’t control this problem is licked. We’ll probably never be perfect, but solving problems makes us happy and this one is solved. .I obtained several bids to replace bay window that had experienced excessive wood rot over the 3 decades. Windows Universe fully explained their products that would meet my need and provided a competitive price. The office kept me fully informed as the windows were being built. When it came time for installation, they were quite flexible, adjusting the date due to painting and other construction at our home. They came as promised and stayed all day until the job was done even though the outside work took place during a rather cold windy evening hour. The final product looks great and what is more important...no surprises, got what we wanted.

Salespeople were friendly and professional and DID NOT PRESSURE US to buy from them (that went a long way with us). Installers were very professional and highly skilled. We have a quirky house with a surprise around every corner and they worked smoothly with everything that came up. I expected a lot of dust and mess but the installers left our house clean and orderly.

The price, we felt, was excellent. The quality of product was excellent. The service and installation were excellent._x000D_|_x000D_|Window Universe, during the installation, encountered a problem. The problem provided the company an opportunity to demonstrate its core values. The problem was that the windows for our three-piece bay window were measured wrong. During installation, it was discovered that the windows did not completely fill the openings. Window Universe advised us of the issue, weather-protected the window openings, and re-ordered the windows at their expense. When the replacement windows arrived, they were also the wrong size. The process was repeated again, at the expense of Window Universe. The third time was the charm. The bay window is now perfect. All we were asked to pay was the amount of the initial quote._x000D_|_x000D_|Just about everyone can demonstrate strong ethics when all goes well. The bumps in the road separate the truly ethical from the pretenders. Window Universe demonstrated, without doubt, that it was committed to the levels of quality, integrity, and service that were stressed during the sales call. _x000D_|_x000D_|I would give Window Universe my highest recommendation. I will probably never need new windows, but I would welcome the opportunity to do business with Window Universe again._x000D_|

We work very hard to reduce the chances of an issue arising, but in this business things will always come up from time to time. I think this member is exactly right that the measure of a company is in how they handle it. When we encounter an unexpected issue we address it, get it resolved as quickly as we can, and then we learn from it in our weekly staff meeting. Our intent isn't to place blame, but to make sure we learn how this situation happened and what could have been done to prevent it or at least to reduce its impact. We are always responsive to the customer and we always fix the problem regardless of the cost or the time it takes. We know that no customer wants to have a problem and we certainly don't either. The reason most folks chose to work with us is because they know we'll be here to help if they need us. I am very glad to hear we were able to help this member and that the project is looking great. It sounds like I had to buy a couple of extra windows on this project, but if we made the customer happy and we learned something from the experience then it was money well spent. Our front line folks can sometimes feel like they have a thankless job. 100 consecutive projects can go great, but if number 101 gets a little sideways they hear about it. We know that's just life sometimes and we try very hard to internally recognize all of the successes for customers who never write reviews. This one is a fantastic example and all of us who get up every day to work hard for our customers thank you for taking the time to write. I know what things cost as I have renovated 3 homes in the last 7 years. Windows Universe is way out of the range for basic replacement windows, even with the Angie's List deal. This is not the kind of company I will do business with. Just because you can get what you ask, doesn't mean you should. Not cool.

This one is a bit of a surprise. We offer a written 110% Best Value Guarantee that ensures that we are always the best deal in town. There are no gimmicks associated with that. As long as we're comparing our products with generally similar products from ANY other company we guarantee that we'll offer the best deal. If by any chance we don't we refund you 110% of the difference. It's really easy. This applies to EVERY company on Angie's List. Out of a few hundred folks we work with every month we typically see 2 or 3 of these. Did a good job. But we needed to have the windows installed urgently, and we were assured at the time of purchase that they would do whatever they can to expedite it. But after that, they did not seem to do anything to expedite it. This is my main gripe.

Well, we're glad to hear that the windows were installed well and that everything is looking great! Regarding the timing it looks like this project was completed in 5 weeks which is right in the middle of our 4-6 week estimate. We try our best to get every project completed as quickly as possible, but we do prioritize all projects by the date the customer places the order. That means every order placed before this one has priority over every order placed after this one. We do offer a HOT RUSH program for folks in a particular hurry. This does happen sometimes when when a customer is approaching a closing date on a property or (like one of my favorite past customers) is hosting a wedding reception and wants new windows in 3 weeks. This customer didn't take advantage of our rush program, but in looking back at the availability at the time that may have only moved the order up 7-10 days or so. There is some lead time with custom made products. This is the same with our company as it is with any company. The only alternative to that is to use standard sized windows and "make them fit" which is typically a really bad alternative. We try to be as clear as possible in our estimates of the time a project will take. In this case we hit it right in the middle of the estimated time. There are cases where we fall behind for one reason or another, but it doesn't look like this was one of them. Good price and easy process to get the window. They also were sure to follow my house association rules. There may have been a slight disconnect at what the salesman said they could do for me and what was actually done - with respect to my association rules. Long story short, I had to paint the outside frame of my window after the install. A little confusion b/t their services and the association rules. Regardless, they did great work and the window looks great.

We tell folks that we've never met an association we couldn't satisfy and that's still the case! Your tip about being sure you completely understand what the association wants sure does make things easier. We're also available to go with our customers to association meetings to make sure everyone is 100% clear. Sometimes the terminology can be difficult and we certainly do understand that the members of the review board might not be window and door experts. Windows Universe provided outstanding service for the replacement of two windows. They were very competent, professional, helpful, and responsive to my questions. The service was prompt and scheduling was flexible to accommodate my work schedule. I am very happy with my windows and will definitely use them again if needed.

We have heard from some folks that other window companies in the area won't even meet with them to discuss a project of less than 5 windows. I replaced 10 windows two years ago and I was just fine with the company that installed it. While I was preparing budget wise, I also was researching good deals (quality and price). Over the course of the last year I received estimates from at least seven companies in the area. In addition to asking the companies themselves I also researched on line and through friends the reputation of all those companies. Once I came across Window Universe through Angie's list I paused for a moment because I was asking it this one of those cases where you would say "if something is too good to be true, then probably it is." I said that because all the reviews I saw and the stories and descriptions I saw on the company website seems very appealing not because it followed the typical sales pitch but more so it sounds very plain and natural hence different. I also observed that they are not one of those companies you would see heavily investing on marketing (for which you would have to pay anyways). I also said how come all these comments would be a lie. I finally decided to invite them to come to my house for estimate. Ted came to the house with no warning or conditions or requirement to have your other half in the home or to make a decision right away so that you would not miss some kind of golden discount ....you know what I am talking. He was very nice and gave us all the answers to the questions we had and left. I still continued researching and contacted him back after about three months to check some deals I saw online. He was kind enough to take the time to carefully listen to what I say and respond to it without having that aggressive sales pitch to use the opportunity. Two weeks later I invited him back and he said he would honor the previous estimate and we signed the deal. Ted told me the time line for the measuring tech to come as well as the installation. Everything was done as planned. In fact the window was installed a few days in advance. When the two installers Khan and his colleague came to the house right on time, I felt like they were a family member or a friend. They were extremely friendly yet professional. They were very meticulous, sensitive to out needs for safety, cleanliness and of course good workmanship. Everything went so well to the best of our satisfaction. Yes, this is one of those occasions where everybody tells you of great experience, and what else you would need, you just do it. This is one of the purchase decisions that I look back and be so happy about it. It is all about Peace of mind. This is probably the longest ever review I have given any company because I benefited from the review other did. This way we can filter the good ones to do business with. I would also like to thank Window universe for a job well done. I cannot thank your staff enough. God bless.

The were very prompt. The windows came even sooner than expected. We always received e-mails as to what was going on with our order. The work crew knew what they were doing and did a very nice job. It only took one day. They cleaned up very nicely and there was no broken glass to be found anywhere.
Description of Work: We had 2 windows in the garage replaced and 4 windows in the basement. 5 windows were awning windows and one was a casement. The old windows were the metal window frames of the 1950'ties.

all great! they worked with me on the pricing and pointed me to a few ways I could save with coupons and specials--they actually worked with me to get the best deal. They also have been incredibly punctual and easy to work with. I live in a condo and needed association approval--they helped me with all the paperwork.
