Window Universe

Everything went extremely well starting with a low key sales approach, to communicating as the process went from measurement for fabrication to installation, and prompt quality installation. The price was extremely competitive and window quality is excellent from the manufacturer. Installation quality is excellent including the metal trim and caulking which is much improved over what was replaced. There was no evidence that they were at my house except the new windows. Long term quality is the only thing left to determine over the next several years.

The work was completed as promised

The experience was great. We had been shopping for window for awhile and always seemed to get the run around. The guys at Window Universe were straight forward and if they didnt know an answer to one of our questions, they would find it out and get back to us quickly. They let us push our install date out until the weather was better and when we had an issue with our new gutter system, they came back out within a few days to fix the problem. They even did a few follow up calls to make sure everything was taken care of. Though they may not be the cheapest, they did give us a good price on all the work we had done. But because they were professional, punctual, and responsive to any questions or needs, we will definitely use them again and would recommend them to anyone who needs new windows or gutters.

They kept making mistakes and had to return five or six times to correct them.

Installation went well and installers were very good and cleaned up afterwards but did not clean the windows. I believe that is something the company should consider doing with new installations because having new dirty windows isn't a pretty picture.

The overall experience was positive. The company's representative Ted Twardy was excellent, arrived on time, responded to many inquires (also by email), and provided good advise. The whole process was explained in detail and the company sent weekly updates to keep us informed. We had an issue with the lead-paint testing of our windows (which was not performed correctly the first time) but the sales-person (Ted) offered to test each single window and that resolved the problem. The windows were delivered and properly installed right after that. We very much like the new windows.

The "Big Deal" advertised $2,576 for 7 Energy Star Rated Windows, to include the windows, labor, trim, removal of debris. However, when the provider came to do an "estimate," it ended up being an additional $500 above the "Big Deal" price. Turns out this is not a "sale" price, but their regular pricing, so basically, I bought a gift certificate, not a coupon or discount. I thought that was misleading, and was not prepared to pay over the advertised price.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. It was good. I paid an additional $750. They were really professional and really fast.

The installer for my new windows just left. The windows look great. Everything was cleaned up perfectly! The installer even rehung my blinds for me, which I was not expecting at all. Overall, it was a great experience. I will say there there is a somewhat overwhelming menu of a la carte choices for windows that pushes the cost up significantly over the basic price on the website (which frankly looks to good to be true). However, the sales person did go over them very carefully so I certainly knew what I was getting. And the price is still very, very competitive. Don't believe it when the salesman tells you that not having painted window frames will let you avoid the $49 per window lead safe practices charge. If you live in a house built before 1978 ish unless you have completely unpainted wood trim around all the windows and there is no chance of disturbing any paint, you are going to have to pay the fee. I think the sales people and the installers might not communicate very well on that issue.

The window has held up perfectly so far and they did a great job.

I was very, very happy with them. They did a presentation and measured the windows. They took a look at everything and then the crew came out and did a fantastic job. I want to use them again. I really can't say enough good things about them.

I researched window costs online. I looked at all the Angie's list coupons. I went and got two estimates from highly rated Angie's list companies. And Windows Universe had the significantly better price on the identical windows. I got simple, inexpensive windows with no additional things added. The Windows Universe sales person was new and didn't know his product line and costs as well as the other company and he made a mistake or two in the price quote. When he came to the house for signing the contract, he brought his more experienced supervisor with him and we got it all straightened out. The Windows Universe price sheet was very transparent and easy to follow. I signed the contract on 11-14-2013. 24 of the windows were installed in January 23,24 2014 in 2 days. One window was mismeasured and another window was cracked when they brought it. So they had to come back on March 14, 2014 to install the last window and replace the cracked glass pane. But everything went smoothly. The installers were very capable and did a good job.

**** UPDATE 05/06/2014 **** Thanks for the lengthy reply, which is essentially shifting the blame on me. If only they put it the same amount of time in responding to my emails! Few pointers: 1. I was assured that adding new windows to the order will NOT delay my order. 2. Window Universe didn't co-ordinate with the bar removers the first time. Hence the installers have to take care of the door first & came back for the windows. BTW, this was well past the 100-day mark. Delay had nothing to do with the security bars. 3. Window Universe informed me that the production of the door was delayed because of bad weather in Ohio. Now they've switched it to Christmas. As far as I know, there's always severe snow storms in the Mid-West & Christmas holidays in America. As a business, one is supposed to plan accordingly. Take a look at my new attachment. On 02/24/2014, we agreed to replace 2 of the windows with energy efficient ones, as the windows installed weren't energy star qualified. I didn't get any communication from them for weeks. After 50 days, I emailed them for an update. That was a few weeks ago. It's been more than 70 days & still no response. I'm curious to see who'll be blamed for the delay this time around!! ************************************************************************* To say that I'm disappointed in the delivery is an understatement. The good things first. Getting an estimate was easy & the price was reasonable. No high-pressure sales tactics. And the installers did a decent job. That being said, I would've appreciated it if they cleaned up well after the installation. Not so good things: I signed a contract in early October for installing a door & 2 windows. Due to the "weather delays" at the plant in Ohio (who would've thought that it snows a lot in Ohio in winter!), my project got delayed by months. When the door was finally installed in January, it was way past 4 months. The project management team didn't inform the installers about the door frame that needed to be replaced. They came back few weeks later for the same. In all, it took a grand total of 5 months to get 1 door & 3 windows installed.

I purchased the "big deal" and the company sent a nice sales rep to my house to measure. There was no "big deal" at all though. They had overly priced storm doors that they would take the "big deal" savings off of. I went ahead and decided on a medium priced door. It was the same as other places I had comparison shopped and while it was not a savings I bought it because the sales person was pleasant. Months went by. I would call to check and get a run around about shipping, delays,installation issues, etc. Two weeks after my door was installed a manger returned my call (from 27 days prior) and asked if he could help me. He didn't take the time to even look at the notes or research the delivery. Over all it they were a waste of my time. The door is installed "ok" as I had to have another contractor adjust the installation. Also, they wrote on the side of my door in sharpie and I am still trying to remove that with a Mr Clean eraser.

The window installation required 2 appointments prior to the installation and each time the technician showed up on time and was very professional. It takes about 6-8 weeks to get the windows and Windows Universe will e-mail you weekly to let you know where your order is in the process. The windows arrived In about 3 weeks. The window installation went very smoothly and the windows look great. The technicians cleaned up behind themselves and there was no mess. I would definitely use them again and would recommend them highly.

Only one glitch. Initial delivery had one unit of the wrong size. Company re-ordered, which took about 3 weeks, and the new unit arrived properly sized but wrong color. Another wait. No serious consequences, just one odd misfit for a while. (It was on the back of the house, so the neighbors didn't get ugly.) What made the whole experience noteworthy was the selling phase. In this area, window salesmen are notoriously aggressive, and my wife and I had had an experience several years ago which put us completely off the whole process. When I (now a widower) returned to the arena last spring, I did some pre-selection, with Angie's List and other sources. A world of difference: calm, matter-of-fact presentations, and firm, well-defined bids readily available. Further, WindowUniverse seems to have a real staff with a half-dozen people involved at various points, instead of one entrepreneur who sleeps in his car. The windows work, too; I've been toasty warm amid all the polar vortices. All in all, a nice if somewhat expensive adventure.

I have used their service before because they have the best price for very high quality windows. I had changed half of my windows with them and changed the other half last month. The kitchen door was pricey, though. I still went ahead and did it with them because I already knew their service and because they had a discount if I did windows and doors in one job. The installation people were very friendly and did a great job. My windows and door look great!

I signed the deal in mid-December, they measured in early January, and the windows were finally installed in mid-February. The crew arrived on time and were very friendly and neat. They cleaned up the area and were out of there by midday. The windows look good, and I am very pleased with the service this company provided. The price was better than any others that were quoted.

I ordered windows and the front door on 10/12/13 with the understanding that they would be in and scheduled in about six weeks. The sales person was very thorough and spent a great deal of time with me discussing design and options. Later, it turned out that not all was as discussed, but I'll take responsibility for that since I just didn't read through the contract carefully enough. As the six weeks passed, they came to measure twice. The first measuring crew arrived late and completed the work in a very hasty manner, in part because I had to leave shortly after they arrived since they were so late. Several weeks later, they sent a second crew to remeasure. That crew was very professional and through. I had to follow up with Windows Universe since I received no further communication. Finally, the installation was scheduled on January 6, 11 weeks after signing the contract, not six. It was one of the coldest days this winter, but the crew got it done. Two window panes were incorrectly manufactured and were reordered on January 9 with the promise that they would be in in 10 days. On January 29, after hearing nothing for three weeks, I again contacted Windows Universe. I was told that the windows were in that that the scheduling department should have contacted me. After some back and forth, the installation department scheduled me for Feb 12. They called that day to cancel and rescheduled for today. Well, they came today with one corrected window and the other exactly the same as the incorrect window. Unfortunately, this window is a large picture window right in the front of my house. So it remains with a middle pane with has a strange grid pattern. Supposedly, this will all be corrected in the next two weeks. We'll see. At least I know that the windows are of good quality and it will look great when it is finally complete.

The service was okay, but it wasn't great. Their price was good, but it took longer than what they had said. They made it sound like it would be immediate, but it took months. The work was okay as well, not great.

The team of installers (about 4) worked very quickly. The job took 2 days total. The workers were clean and courteous. The foreman was the only one I talked to directly. When I addressed an issue on the old, rotted window frame, he replaced it with no problem. The rotted frame evidently wasn't relayed to him, although I explained this during the signing of the contract. The workers respected that we run a daycare out of our house, and they worked around the nap time schedule. The foreman explained to me that the basement door was very difficult to install due to the solid concrete of our 50+ year old house--he mentioned when went through 6-7 drill bits. I also purchased my own trim (this was in the contract), but it wasn't the type the foreman was expecting. He still was able to install it, no problem. They trimmed out the exterior part of the doors. They also trimmed the windows and caulked them, so the mold/rotting issue wouldn't occur like with the old windows. The job finished on time and there were no after-the-fact issues. The doors and windows look fantastic and aren't drafty. Contacting the company, I always talked to someone who was very courteous and respectful. They always replied in a timely manner. I would do business with Windows Universe again.

Window wasn't measured correctly. They Did not show up on scheduled date on two occasions. Refused to reinstall shade mounts that they had removed.

They did an amazing job. They were really good. They could not finish in one day so they had to come back the second day. They picked up a wrong part and they can’t put that there but they were very responsive and fixed it right away. They did great. Their pricing was cheap compared to the other companies I called. They were clean, I was shocked how clean they were. They were nice and didn't interfere with anything that we were doing. The sales representative was amazing and nice as well. He met with my wife and even called me after the job was done to see how everything was doing and working. They didn't give me the best windows out there but it was pretty good. I would recommend them to anyone. They're really helpful.

We did have to re-schedule a few times due to a back order and bad weather. Once they finally came, they did a great job. They did have to come back to put on the screen door to my living room and clean the dirt on the windows on the outside. There were two people here to do the work and they were great guys. They were professional and personable.

They were wonderful. We are looking forward to using them again. They were just very helpful.
