J & J Landscape Management Inc

I purchased an Angie’s List Big Deal for this service and I spent another $1,300 over the deal price. Some of the sod that was put in did not take so it was browned. When I called the company to have them come out and look at it they said they would but they didn't.

This was a big deal I purchased which was much cheaper than any others I could find. They came out and did a great job. I requested a quote for more work; however, that was a little to pricey. I did hire them to do the lawn mowing twice a month and they have so far been great.

I contacted them, they said they would accept the deal. They want to know what days would be good. I gave them three dates in the week I was away to come and work in the morning. They said that was too inconvenient for them, and that I had to be there. So I called again when I was home again, and talked to Donal, who would be doing part of the team's work. He said Friday 11:00 a.m., August 30th. When 12:30 rolled around, I called their very insensitive, one might even say nasty, office receptionist who told me a) Donal could not have told me that (he had) and b) Donal had been on vacation for 10 days since the day before, 29 August, and further c) no one wanted to work for us, in a vitriolic voice. My husband went into my Angie's list, got someone, and they did a fine job. Hope to never hear about J&J except for a refund of monies prepaid for their services. Sincerely, Dr.Barbara A. Just fine--all of our expectations were met. Very professional. Wound up getting a few of the plants in a bigger size and more plants needed--no problems with this. Got the job done in the timeframe they estimated.

We purchased an Angie's List deal for 6 hours of landscaping/lawn service. The estimator that worked with us was very professional, and also stopped by to check on things the day the 3 workers were at the house performing the work. The workers worked fast and were courteous. I rated quality a bit lower only because they accidentally cut through the root ball of one of the rose bushes. The ground was soft from recent rains and the shovel slipped, but I appreciated their honesty in bringing it to my attention right away. Overall, very pleased.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. It was okay. There were no additional charges. I wish they had gotten more done in the time we bought was 3 guys for a day but also we don't work with landscapers that often so I don't know how much to expect a landscaper to do but we felt like they could have had more done. They were good in terms of responsiveness. They were on time. In the future, I would probably shop around. I will probably look at other deals to see what other landscaping deals there were. I'll call and try someone else.

Great! The guys showed up on time, and completed the job to my satisfaction. They were courteous and friendly.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. They're a great company. We went ahead and actually hired them to do all of our lawn maintenance for the year. I just paid the price for the Big Deal. I think that the good thing is that they are very responsive and their attention to detail was excellent. I don't have anything negative to say about them.

They cleaned up the entire yard, front and back and made it look very professional. It took a few weeks to get on the schedule - but it was Spring and a busy time I would make the call in March. They worked very fast and did a great job.

Purchased the Big Deal. Work done was top quality. I hoped that more would get done (3 laborers x 2 hours). Scheduling the Big Deal took about 2 weeks, which I felt was reasonable. I ended up using the company for re-sod and general lawn care. Jamie and Kate are great to deal with. They were able to meet my changing scheduling needs because I was at the mercy of another contractor putting in a sprinkler system. Highly recommended.

I originally asked them to clean up a bush to make a flower bed. After we did this ourselves, I asked if they are interested in cleaning the yard because they strongly prefer not to refund the $199. So I asked them to do weeding. If I wasn't home, the crew was going to leave with weeds between our neighbor's fence and weeds under the trees there. I had to call the head of the operations to get him to tell the crew to do it even though the head of operations knows my requirement. Not too happy about this.

Their service was fantastic and the people are really nice. They are little goofy with their scheduling and then I told them just weird scheduling things and finally we got it resolved. They came out and the work they did was fantastic excepting their scheduling was little awful. I know it has been raining three quarters of the month of July other than that they do good work. Everything is okay except communication is not 100%. I would use them again.

Mr. Jones arrived precisely on time for survey and was clearly both a knowledgeable plant and landscape person, but also a pleasure to talk to when planning the work we wanted. He provided an estimate the same day. Please note that J&J are obviously a popular landscape service because scheduling a visit of there crew takes a while. On the day our work was scheduled J&J's really excellent team (Roberto and Edwin) arrived on time with all the tools and supplies they needed. Since we hired a landscape architectural firm to design and do the initial planting in our gardens, we have had several landscape service firms do the trimming, mulching and weeding - mostly with satisfactory results. Roberto and Edwin did a SUPERB JOB - quietly, efficiently and were done in about six hours. We plan to schedule a visit from J&J to prep our gardens for winter and we plan to ask specifically for Roberto and Edwin.

This was an outstanding experience from beginning to end. We just moved into a home that had not been owner occupied (was a rental) for over a year. During that time the grass had been mowed but I don't think a lot else had been done. The yard needed a lot of work to get to where we wanted it. J&J responded promptly to our request for an estimate. James showed up to inspect the yard (in order to estimate) on time and offered guidance and recommendations regarding what could and could not be done. They were very easy to work with administratively (payments, scheduling, etc.). They performed the work within the window of time promised (with excellent communication along the way regarding how weather was affecting scheduling...had lots of rain leading up to our job). The work was done efficiently and at a VERY HIGH level of quality. We are extremely happy with how our new yard looks. They also offered (at my request) their maintenance program (at a reasonable price). I declined and he didn't mention it again...no pushing or pressuring. After they finished I trimmed the shrubs and removed a bush that I decided needed to go. After I had done all this I realized I had no way to dispose of all the debris (oops!) so I called and asked how much it would cost to have some guys come out and take it away (and even offered to have them mow, etc. if that was necessary to make it cost effective for them). James said he would have some guys come by the next day and take care of it... at no charge (even though this would have been taken care of in the yard maintenance package that he offered and I declined). Sure enough, the next day I came home and everything was gone. WOW! So this is what customer service look like!

My biggest praise of J&J is their promptness and responsiveness. We were hosting a baby shower so our timeline was quick and James really helped make sure the outdoor party was a success. He showed up right on time for the consult and gave me some excellent ideas. I had talked to other companies and they were not responsive at all - I felt like I was fighting them for a consult. Many thanks for J&J!

J & J Landscape Management is doing great. They're as reliable as clock work and they do a great job and it's everything we asked for. They're doing wonderful. We're just happy to have somebody that does a great job and we don't have to mess with it. I will use them again in a heartbeat.

J&J did a couple of things really well: I liked the fact that Donnell came out to our house to chat about what we were thinking we wanted done to the front yard. I have a serious black thumb and I know nothing about plants. He had some really great suggestions on what would look good in a confined space, and the plants he helped us select seem like they're standing up to weather and our somewhat inexperienced caretaking. And, because I was getting ready to deploy to Afghanistan, I especially appreciated that they were able to squeeze us in pretty quickly so that I was able to enjoy the landscaping for a week or so before heading out. All the people I have dealt with in their office are polite, professional, and seem like they care about me as a customer. That being said, there were a couple of major problems. The first was that the crew showed up for work without the stone to build the flowerbed borders that Donnell and I had talked about When I mentioned that I didn't see the stones, he seemed surprised but then remembered that we HAD discussed it, and assured me that he would run and pick some up, and that it shouldn't delay the landscaping crew. When I arrived, they had in fact installed the stone border (and all the plants), but not the way that Donnell and I had originally discussed. I suppose that, considering the fact that we wanted a stone border at all had been forgotten, I shouldn't have been surprised that the pattern really wasn't was I had asked for. We originally discussed something in a kind of "S" pattern so that it wasn't just a flat flowerbed, but my husband was okay with it, so I didn't bother making an issue of it. The second, and much more aggravating problem was the billing. We received a bill, as expected, for approximately $900. This was what was on the original estimate, and we happily paid it, on time, by check. Then, about ten days ago, I got a voicemail at work from J&J telling me that they had an outstanding bill for us in the amount of $1250 or so! I was understandably shocked, and called their office. I told the lady that I spoke to (I think it was Kate) that we had paid our bill more than a month ago, and the check had cleared and everything. She looked into it, and contacted me to explain that they had had to prepare another invoice because the stones that we had wanted weren't on the original estimate. While they billed us for the first invoice, they prepared a second invoice and tried to bill us again, not having realized that what they SHOULD have done was simply contact us and let us know that there was an additional charge for the stone. After Kate cleared up the billing errors and sent me an invoice for just the additional stone and labor, we authorized payment for the extra $350. Here's the thing: we're happy to pay for services and materials provided. But considering that I specifically went over what we wanted, we received an estimate for what we believed was the whole job, and we paid for what we believed was the whole job, is it unreasonable to expect that we would be done with this after we pad the bill we received? I feel like a reasonable course of action from J&J would have been for them to simply waive the addtional cost after the alarming billing error and additional hassle for me of trying to handle this from Afghanistan. Very disappointing- although the end results were fine, the experience left a bad taste in my mouth and I would not use this company again. Update as of August 11: J&J responded to the problem regarding the stone border, but I'm still really not happy with how this was handled. I've reviewed the original proposal, and they are correct: what we signed did not actually include the stone work. It seems like it was left off of the proposal entirely, and we never noticed. The reason I thought it would be included is that Donnell and I walked over to our neighbor's house and I specifically pointed out the style of stone border that they had and went into great detail regarding how I wanted something that looked very similar. I recall him asking me point blank if I wanted our landscaping to look exactly like everyone else's, and we were laughing about how imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. In fact, he mentioned that he could get stones for us at something of a discount because he would go directly to whatever source he normally goes to, and this seemed more reasonable to me than trying to purchase them myself, haul them, stack them, etc.. So when we received the proposal, it doesn't seem completely unreasonable that I would have thought that was included. I don't review landscaping proposals for a living; if I had realized that the proposal only included the plants, installation, labor, and haul-away of the old plants, I would have addressed it at that time.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. It was good. They did a fairly decent job but not a completely thorough job. The quality was decent but not extremely good.

They have been very repsonsive to the customer.

We got off on the wrong foot in the beginning. Donnelll gave me an estimate of over $800 to complete the work, and did not include the $249 I had already paid for the Angies List Deal. Kate emailed me a new estimate after I questioned the cost. I paid an additional $366 for labor to trim the bushes and for the cost of the mulch. I didn't get a chance to take a picture of the before because they were scheduled to show up "after lunch", but the crew came at 9:30. They did an excellent job cleaning out a mountain of weeds and baby trees from the bed. They also did a superb job putting in the black plastic edging at the front of the bed and trimming the bushes in front of the garage, They were short on the mulch they put down and are scheduled to return next week to fill in the shortage. Overall it was a great job, and once they put down the appropriate amount of mulch, it will look great, and I'll be very happy,

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. It was fabulous. They were absolutely fantastic. They did a terrific job. They're very thorough a very easy to work with. They charged me more than what was in the deal but we discussed that beforehand so I knew exactly. They did an overall estimate and they credited the discounted price into it and I paid the difference between the discounted price. It worked out the right way. I thought they were wonderful. I was just very impressed. They came out to give me the estimate in advance so I appreciated that, too.

This job went perfectly. I couldn't have asked for better communication throughout the process. I dealt directly with James (President). He came out to the house to do the estimate, helped me work up the concept of exactly what I wanted, talked through different plant options with me, and came back on time (the very next day) with the proposal and estimate over email, exactly as he said he would. He even broke the proposal down into 3 parts when I asked him to, in case I didn't want to do all the work at once. He scheduled the work exactly when he told me he would, and kept me informed if weather was delaying jobs ahead of ours, and if there would be any adjustments to our start date. They ended up starting on a Tuesday instead of a Monday, but they still finished by the weekend, as originally expected. He dropped off samples of the stone to be sure it's exactly what I wanted, and allowed me some time to verify the plantings he suggested were exactly what I wanted. The crew that did all the work was very professional and hard working. They cleaned up after themselves, were always courteous and extremely helpful. I took some time off work to transplant some of the smaller existing flowers/shrubs that I had, and they graciously helped me lift things if it was too heavy for me/move things/plant things despite that not being part of the work I was paying them for. They even helped me clean out my gutters before hooking up the gutters to the existing drainage tiles/pipe. I couldn't be happier with this entire job- it all looks great- the stone wall, the fieldstone pavers as the new walkway, and how much this job increased the curb appeal of our home- it was well worth the price. The plantings are mostly evergreen, but with lots of flowering shrubs- and I'm very pleased with James' recommendations on what to plant as well. I was going on vacation for 2 weeks immediately after the work was complete, and they helped me develop a plan to water the plants and even offered to come by to check on them to make sure the plan (soaker hoses and a timer) were working properly and was the right amount of water for the plants. I used the 10% coupon from Angie's List- which was good up to a certain amount of my entire bill. When asked, they graciously agreed to do 10% off the entire job. Either b/c it was a large job or b/c of a military discount they were offering at the time. They also reseeded part of our lawn that was looking kind of sad (this was not part of the original proposal and they did this at no additional charge). And as with any large job that requires trucks to come in and drop off palettes of stone and/or haul debris away- it was noticeable where the trucks had come in. It was during a very wet time, and the yard had some rutting. They worked to fix this the week that they were here and they also are coming back in September to work on it again- add top soil and reseed the grass in that area. I'm a very meticulous homeowner. James and his crew exceeded my expectations, not only for the work, but how they performed the work. They were tidy throughout the job, and I was very impressed with the end result. James' communication with me has been unmatched by all the other work I've had done on my house/yard, etc. He kept me informed and answered questions before I could ask them. When I did have any concerns, I'd simply email him and I'd hear back from him within 12-15 hours. He is very good at his job, and the crew that did this work (crew 1, I believe) worked well together and was both hardworking and attentive to details. As for price, I had 2 other estimates. One required I first pay $175 landscape design fee before they could do the estimate. The second came in at approximately the same price as J&J, but it took them 2 weeks to get back to me with the estimate when they told me they'd have it to me within 3 days. And they wanted me to sign a contract with them, for the labor and then give me a price later for all the plantings I picked out. When J&J came back on time with their estimate, and then offered the additional 10% off, I chose them b/c of their timeliness and the impression they made at the initial visit to the house. I will recommend them to others and would use them again for regular lawn maintenance, special services, or other big jobs like this one.

This company was just about the only one that would take on a lawn job for a townhouse, so I want to acknowledge that first. We needed our entire lawn (front, back, one side), which was overrun with weeds, redone. We were very happy with the work, which was done professionally and with no trouble. The sod they put in looked fabulous! The crew also did some extra weeding in our gardens. Our only glitch was initially we weren't clear about which date they were coming. Once that got sorted out, we were extremely happy. I highly recommend them and passed on their name to our homeowner association's grounds committee. I put in an N/A rating for price because we didn't get a bid from any other company that we contacted.

We had a great experience with J&J. Jamie the owner came out right away after we contacted him for an estimate. We weren't sure exactly how to turn our sloped backyard into usable space, but Jamie offered some great suggestions and the price was better than anyone else we talked to. After he sent over the estimates, both he and his office manager contacted me to see if I had any questions about the documents. The week we actually got the work done was the hottest week of the summer. I felt bad for the workers, but they didn't seem to mind. They worked hard and efficiently each day and were very polite. They cleaned up and even swept my driveway and the street in front of the house each day when they left. After the sod was installed, Jamie sent me an email with all the instructions on how to take care of new sod and again, the office manager called to see if I had any questions. We are beyond happy with the result of the project. The backyard looks great and we will definitely use J&J again.

This didn’t turn out as well as I thought it would. They cut a couple of bushes and cleaned the yard. We asked them to do what they could for $199. I thought they would be able to get more completed than what they did.
